Windows XP Error

SuperhumanPosted on 10/02/04 at 07:19:09

???

Has anyone encountered an error within Windows Xp with TNM 7 or SE which reads:  "16-bit MS-DOS Subsystem:  C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe; C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT.  The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications."

It doesn't make sense to me.  My TNMs were running fine until I suddenly encountered this error a couple of days ago, and now I can't use any of them.  Even re-installing the program isn't working.

Anyone know what I can do to correct this without losing everything I have?

Rick

Something is wrong with the AUTOEXEC.NT file - although I can't tell you what that might be. Another user had sent me his and it looked just like mine, working just fine in XP SP2...

Anybody?

Also, please check here:

Microsoft help page for this problem under Win2K and this page for XP.

Also, this could be virus-related... according to some articles I found about this problem.

And the people here even offer EXEs that'll help with the problem:

And one more thing: are you sure your Windows is located in C:\WINDOWS as opposed to C:\WINXP (which is standard)?

Thanks for the help, gang.  Thanks to an .exe file I found on one of the posts, it returned my missing files to me and I am once again using TNM.

Can anybody send me the .exe file that rectifies Rick's problem or show me where on the boards I can find it?
