Windows XP Error
Superhuman | Posted on 10/02/04 at 07:19:09 ??? Has anyone encountered an error within Windows Xp with TNM 7 or SE which reads: "16-bit MS-DOS Subsystem: C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe; C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications." It doesn't make sense to me. My TNMs were running fine until I suddenly encountered this error a couple of days ago, and now I can't use any of them. Even re-installing the program isn't working. Anyone know what I can do to correct this without losing everything I have? Rick |
Oliver Copp | Posted on 10/02/04 at 09:56:53 Something is wrong with the AUTOEXEC.NT file - although I can't tell you what that might be. Another user had sent me his and it looked just like mine, working just fine in XP SP2... Anybody? |
Oliver Copp | Posted on 10/02/04 at 16:53:31 Also, please check here: Microsoft help page for this problem under Win2K and this page for XP. |
Oliver Copp | Posted on 10/02/04 at 16:57:38 Also, this could be virus-related... according to some articles I found about this problem. |
Oliver Copp | Posted on 10/02/04 at 17:02:57 And the people here even offer EXEs that'll help with the problem: http://www.webuser.co.uk/cgi-bin/forums/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=tips&Number=136162&Search=true&Forum=All_Forums&Words=autoexec.nt&Match=Or&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=allposts&Main=136162 |
Oliver Copp | Posted on 10/02/04 at 17:15:26 And one more thing: are you sure your Windows is located in C:\WINDOWS as opposed to C:\WINXP (which is standard)? |
Superhuman | Posted on 10/15/04 at 17:50:03 Thanks for the help, gang. Thanks to an .exe file I found on one of the posts, it returned my missing files to me and I am once again using TNM. |
King_Of_Old_School | Posted on 12/21/05 at 21:10:42 Can anybody send me the .exe file that rectifies Rick's problem or show me where on the boards I can find it? peter_abram@hotmail.com Cheers. |
King_Of_Old_School | Posted on 12/21/05 at 21:17:51 I succeeded in finding the file. If anybody else needs it then drop me a line. |
