WWF 1993 - A Raw Beginning......

djmasterscooterPosted on 10/20/05 at 01:58:18

I've decided to start a WWF 1993 circuit, and this includes everyone who was under contract as of January 1,  1993.

This includes Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan and some others as well.  I won't bother posting a full roster because it is huge.

You might see some new faces as well.

First card to be up shortly!!!
djmasterscooterPosted on 10/20/05 at 02:23:51

WWF Monday Night Raw
January, Week 1

The first episode of Raw kicks off with Vince McMahon and Rob Bartlett as your hosts (No actual commentary, just a Raw Report)

Brutus Beefcake defeated Reno Riggins when Reno Riggins passed out in the Sleeper in 0:07:38.
Rating: *

A moderately average match that had no storyline advancement what so ever.  Sorry Brutus, your friend Hogan might not be able to save your job this time.

An advertisment for Royal Rumble 93 is shown.

The Berzerker pinned Barry Horowitz with the Piledriver in 0:08:27.
Rating: * 1/4

Berzerker was in impressive form, and Horowitz served well as fodder for him.

Royal Rumble Report

Mean Gene Okerlund announces that the winner of tonight's Main Event will face Bret Hart for the WWF Championship.  The main event tonight is Mr. Perfect Vs Ric Flair

He also announces the first seven entrants into the Royal Rumble, they are The Steiner Brothers. "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, Kamala, Tatanka, and The Nasty Boys

WWF Royal Rumble 1993

30 Man Royal Rumble featuring...
The Steiner Brothers
"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan
Kamala
Tatanka
The Nasty Boys

Doink the Clown pinned Matt Bloom with the Whoopie Cushion in 0:07:18.
Rating: ** 1/2

Doink stayed around to give out whipped cream balloons to the fans.  He got a five year old in the front row.  Rob Bartlett was in stitches.

WWF Intercontinental Championship
Shawn Michaels pinned Virgil with the Sweet Chin Music in 0:09:04.
Rating: ** 3/4
(Shawn Michaels retained the WWF Intercontinental Title.)

Shawn Michaels got on the microphone after disposing of Virgil and talked some trash until Marty Jannetty ran him off.  It looks like we have another match for the Rumble.

Owen Hart pinned Max Moon with the Rocket Launcher in 0:07:14.
Rating: ***

Best match of the night as Moon and Hart flowed very well in the ring.  Owen hit his patented flying dropkick for a victory.  It looks like Owen Hart could be going places.

Ric Flair comes to the ring and taunts some fans in the aisles.  It's time for the main event.

Ric Flair pinned Mr. Perfect after a schoolboy cradle in 0:14:08.
Rating: *** 1/4

Flair held his feet on the ropes for leverage during this match.  Perfect looked ticked off as he chased Ric Flair to the back area where Perfect was attacked by Razor Ramon!!! to end the show.

Next week on Raw...

Jerry Lawler wrestles for the first time on Raw.

Marty Jannetty is in action as well.

And Bret "The Hitman" Hart meets a returning Mountie in one on one action.

Coming up on Superstars

Bam Bam Bigelow, and Irwin R. Schyster are in action, and The Beverly Brothers meet The Bushwhackers.
ianclarkPosted on 10/20/05 at 08:37:25

Great work on your circuit already, I look forward to reading it as it continues and the storylines develop.
djmasterscooterPosted on 10/20/05 at 16:44:10

WWF Superstars
January, Week 1

Bobby Hennan and Gorilla Monsoon do the commentating.

Bam Bam Bigelow pinned Brooklyn Brawler with the Greetings from Asbury Park in0:07:21.
Rating: **

Bigelow disposes of The Brawler in classic fashion.  Bigelow is also very agile in the ring.

Royal Rumble Report

Mean Gene Okerlund runs down the card, and adds a new match, plus 3 more entrants to the 1993 Royal Rumble.

WWF Championship
Bret "The Hitman" Hart (c) Vs "Nature Boy" Ric Flair

WWF Intercontinental Championship
"The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels (c) Vs Marty Jannetty

30 Man Royal Rumble featuring...
The Steiner Brothers
"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan
"The Ugandan Giant" Kamala
Tatanka
The Nasty Boys
Bam Bam Bigelow
"The Rocket" Owen Hart
"Macho Man" Randy Savage

Ric Flair calls out Bret Hart to talk some trash to him.  The Hitman arrives and gets in Flair's face.  Flair slaps Bret, and Bret retalliates with punches.  Flair takes a low road out before any more damage can be done.

The Bushwhackers (Bushwhacker Luke and Bushwhacker Butch) defeated The Beverly Brothers (Beau Beverly and Blake Beverly) when Butch pinned Blake with the Battering Ram in 0:11:16.
Rating: * 1/2

Mediocre tag team match used for filler.  The strange part is that The Bushwhackers actually pick up a victory here.

Money Inc. is backstage with Gene Okerlund.  They brag about what great champions they are.  Irwin R. Schyster heads to the ring.

Irwin R. Schyster made Barry Horowitz submit to the Penalty in 0:11:47.
Rating: ** 1/2

As Superstars end, we are shown a Royal Rumble promotion.
ianclarkPosted on 10/20/05 at 22:52:08

Bret Hart against Ric Flair?

I can't wait for that match, shame Flair left the "real" WWF back in 93 as it would have been a great Wrestlemania main event!

djmasterscooterPosted on 10/21/05 at 16:00:22

WWF Monday Night Raw
January, Week 2

Vince McMahon and Rob Bartlett bring us the action.

Tatanka pinned Steven Dunn with the End of the Trail in 0:08:07.
Rating: *** 1/2

Excellent match.  Dunn made Tatanka look good here tonight.

Jim Duggan pinned Repo Man with the Old Glory in 0:07:24.
Rating: **

Classic Duggan squashfest with little to no Repo Man offense.  Duggan stays around to party with fans.

Jerry "The King" Lawler comes down the aisle and gets in Jim Duggan's face.  When Duggan turns around, Lawler nails him with his crown from behind.  This gets a lot of boos as Lawler gets in the ring.

Jerry Lawler pinned El Bandito with the Piledriver in 0:10:45.
Rating: ** 3/4

Lawler demonstrated some excellent wrestling here.  Bandito is your classic unknown Mexican wrestler in a mask.

Lawler remained in the ring to nail Bandito with his crown, but "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan ran back to the ring to chase Lawler off.  Chants of "USA, USA" were heard.

Royal Rumble Report

Mean Gene runs it down with a new match and seven more entrants into this year's Royal Rumble.

WWF Championship
Bret "The Hitman" Hart (c) Vs "Nature Boy" Ric Flair

WWF Intercontinental Championship
"The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels (c) Vs Marty Jannetty

Just Announced...
Razor Ramon Vs Mr. Perfect

30 Man Royal Rumble featuring...
The Steiner Brothers
"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan
"The Ugandan Giant" Kamala
Tatanka
The Nasty Boys
Bam Bam Bigelow
"The Rocket" Owen Hart
"Macho Man" Randy Savage
Typhoon
Money Inc.
Bob Backlund
Papa Shango
The Undertaker
Yokozuna

Typhoon pinned Damien DeMento with the Big Splash in 0:13:46.
Rating: ** 3/4

Wow.  All we can say is that.  DeMento put on a half way decent match with the big man.  Typhoon gets the victory after a big splash.

Razor Ramon is backstage talking about his hatred for Mr. Perfect.  He said Ric Flair paid him a decent amount of money to make sure Mr. Perfect never gets near him again.

Marty Jannetty pinned Brad Martin with the Rocker Dropper in 0:07:05.
Rating: **

Jannetty picks up a typical face victory before a major title match.  Definite momentum for him.  If I was Shawn Michaels, I'd be worried.

The Mountie comes down the aisle joining in song with his theme music.  This might take a while, so let's go to Bret Hart backstage.

Bret Hart is questioned about Ric Flair backstage after what happened on Superstars.  Hart says he is focusing on The Mountie right now and he doesn't forget what happened a year ago.

Bret Hart made The Mountie submit to the Sharpshooter in 0:18:35.
Rating: *** 1/2

An excellent match no doubt.  Mountie performed well and showed little ring rust.  Bret Hart picks up a well earned victory here.

Ric Flair strolls down the aisle and distracts Bret Hart when Razor Ramon attacks him from the crowd.  Flair and Razor continue to double team The Hitman when Mr. Perfect rushes to the ring and clears house.

Perfect and Hart stand waiting to battle as Raw ends.

Next Week on Raw...

Bret Hart and Mr. Perfect meet Razor Ramon & Ric Flair in tag team action.

Jerry Lawler meets Koko B. Ware

plus Tatanka, Kamala, and The Berzerker.

Coming up on Superstars

Bob Backlund in action, and Earthquake meets Skinner in one on one competition.
djmasterscooterPosted on 10/23/05 at 17:48:49

WWF Superstars
Week 2

Gorilla Monsoon & Bobby Hennan bring you the action, plus we will announce a new match for the Royal Rumble plus 3 more entrants.

Backstage, Money Inc. are with Jimmy Hart, and are being interviewed about the recent tag team situation.  Jimmy mentions The Nasty Boys but Ted and Irwin keep avoiding the situation.  DiBiase heads to the ring.

Ted DiBiase defeated Steven Dunn when Steven Dunn passed out in the Million Dollar Dream in 0:09:28.
Rating: ***

Decent match.  Steven Dunn does his job well and makes DiBiase look good.  Irwin R. Schyster hit the ring and they double teamed Dunn for fun (rhyme!).  The Nasty Boys cleared house, but not before giving Jimmy Hart a wedgie!!!!

Bob Backlund defeated Blake Beverly when Blake Beverly passed out in the Crossface Chickenwing in 0:11:25.
Rating: *** 1/4

Decent back and forth technical action here.  No complaints until a Man in Black came out and attacked Blake Beverly after he had been defeated.

Royal Rumble Report

Mean Gene running down the card...

WWF Championship
Bret "The Hitman" Hart (c) Vs "Nature Boy" Ric Flair

Bret gives a mini-interview claiming that history has a way of repeating itself.

Plus a huge announcement regarding 2 of the spots in The Royal Rumble.

Earthquake pinned Skinner with the Earthquake Vertical Splash in 0:06:22.
Rating: 1/2*

Not a good match by any means, but hey, they're big men.

As Superstars ends, we see clips of matches between Bret Hart and Ric Flair.

King_Of_Old_SchoolPosted on 10/24/05 at 17:59:50

Awesome circuit! Keep the shows coming!!
91Posted on 10/24/05 at 19:33:03

Booked or unbooked? I'm thinking booked since the results seem to be par for the course so far, but I like to know these things.
djmasterscooterPosted on 10/25/05 at 03:05:13

Yep.  It's booked.  I've been found out.  ;D
ianclarkPosted on 10/25/05 at 18:30:00

I don't care if its booked, as a spectator I'm lovng it!

Keep up the good work.
91Posted on 10/25/05 at 19:59:06

Booked... in that case, we can probably peg the Rumble down to Yokozuna, Perfect, Savage or Undertaker unless any other big names get added. I know it mirrors real life a little but a) I have a feeling Bret's going to retain and b) I have a feeling he'll face a heel at Mania, so I'll plump for Yokozuna. Unless you add Hogan to the mix, in which case I reckon it'll be him vs Flair at Mania. Still, my interest is starting to perk up here so keep things going.
Snabbit888Posted on 10/27/05 at 08:27:37

I've always wanted to do a circuit exactly like this.  I mean, exactly to the date.  I started watching wrestling at this time, soeven though 1993 blew hard for wrestling, it holds a special place in my heart.  Thus, I love this circuit.  If you let it die, you die. :)
djmasterscooterPosted on 10/28/05 at 05:39:06

WWF Monday Night Raw
January, Week 3

Vince McMahon and Rob Bartlett call the action once more.  Tonight, we'll see a tag team main event, plus more entrants in the Royal Rumble.

Papa Shango pinned Terry Taylor with the Shoulderbreaker in 0:10:06.
Rating: * 3/4

An average match with an average heel looking good.  Shango employed his voodoo rituals and took Taylor out early.

Kamala pinned Reno Riggins with the Big Splash in 0:07:12.
Rating: * 1/4

Kamala squashes another jobber this time.  Decent enough.  Not great, but decent.

Backstage, Razor Ramon and Ric Flair arrive for their match.

Tito Santana pinned Mike Sharpe with the El Paseo del Muerte in 0:09:09.
Rating: **

A flying burrito here and a flying burrito there, and nine minutes later, you have a decent match with an Americanized Mexican wrestler.

Royal Rumble Report

Mean Gene runs it down.

The Mountie
LEX LUGER (making his WWF debut.)
MYSTERY ENTRANT (COULD BE ANYONE!!!)

That's right.  Lex Luger will be making his debut at the Royal Rumble.  He's not the type of guy who likes to look at himself.  He's not narcissistic like that or anything.  But who could the mystery entrant be?

The Berzerker pinned Steve Lombardi with the Piledriver in 0:07:01.
Rating: *

Can you say crap-tastic? I can.  Berzerker just might have a crazy enough gimmick to get over.

Tatanka pinned Damien DeMento with the End of the Trail in 0:08:18.
Rating: ** 1/4

Tatanka continues his winning streak in impressive fashion against the man from the outer reaches of our minds.  A End of the Trail later and Tatanka puts one more feather in his cap (lol!)

Good ol' Todd Pettingill is backstage with Bret Hart & Mr. Perfect.  They say that although they've fought in the past, they would love nothing more than to slap the smiles of the faces of Ric Flair and Razor Ramon together.

Bret Hart and Mr. Perfect defeated Razor Ramon and Ric Flair when B. Hart made Ramon submit to the Sharpshooter in 0:20:15.
Rating: *** 1/2

Excellent team work from both sides.  Flair did a classic turnbuckle spot with both Hart and Flair.  Flair almost walked into the Sharpshooter, but a save by Ramon ended that.  However, towards the end, Perfect clotheslined Flair out of the ring.  Razor had Hart up for a Razor's Edge, but Perfect pulled him down, which enabled Hart to take Razor down and apply the SharpShooter for the victory.

Afterwards, Flair threw a tantrum in the aisle as Perfect and Hart celebrated in the ring.

Next week on Raw...

We're one week away from the Rumble.  The WWF Champion Bret Hart meets Razor Ramon in a non title match.

Plus Rick Martel, Owen Hart and more

Coming up on Superstars...

Crush, The Nasty Boys, and Rick Martel in action

91Posted on 10/28/05 at 19:57:08

MYSTERY ENTRANT MADNESS!! Is it someone who was in the WWF at the time, or could it be anyone from any company who was active back then?
djmasterscooterPosted on 10/29/05 at 10:11:07

I'll give you a hint.  It is someone who was with the company at the time, and you will get the WrestleMania main event that should have happened.

Coincedentally, Snabbit, I started watching wrestling around the same time.  I started watching around the second episode of Raw and never looked back.  Anyways, it's 4 in the morning and am on a painkiller for my back so peace to you all.

P.S. I feel honored by having the prestigious circuit writers reading my circuit.  i promise not to let you guys down.

91Posted on 10/29/05 at 14:03:14

In which case, I've got a pretty good idea who it might be, but I'll divulge that, and my predictions, right before the Rumble.

For the record, I too started watching in 1993, albeit around the summer. The first up to date PPV I saw at that time was that years Survivor Series, so that year holds a special place with me too.
djmasterscooterPosted on 11/02/05 at 05:29:13

WWF Superstars
Week 3

Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Hennan call the action this week.

Rick Martel defeated Steve Lombardi by disqualification in 0:16:08.
Rating: * 1/2

A very confusing finish here leaving some to believe that it was botched or maybe not.  Martel brings his Arrogance into the ring when the ref wasn't looking, tosses it to Lombardi and falls to the ground for a very cheap and hard-to-swallow finish.

Royal Rumble Report

The card you have seen is the complete card.  Mean Gene plays a tape of who fans think will be the Mystery Entrant in the Royal Rumble.  Some names dropped were Jimmy Snuka, Ron Garvin, and The Gobbledy Gooker.

Bret Hart gives a promo regarding his match with Flair at the Rumble.  Hart mentions that they are two technical wizards, but that one of them will take it to the next level in order to ensure survival.

Back at ringside we see Doink The Clown throwing a pie in the face of a 70 year old woman.

Crush pinned Brooklyn Brawler with the Tilt-a-Whirl Backbreaker in 0:06:36.
Rating: * 1/4

I know what you're thinking.  How could the Brawler come out after Lombardi already wrestled.  The answer to that question is of course 49.  Crush dominates as usual with no offense from Brawler.

The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags) defeated
Barry Horowitz and Reno Riggins when Sags pinned Horowitz with the Flying Elbowdrop in 0:10:28.
Rating: ** 1/2

Nasty Boys keep getting impressive.  Sags and Knobbs showed excellent team work and even a few out of the ordinary moves.

As Superstars ends, we see a promo for the Royal Rumble.
djmasterscooterPosted on 11/02/05 at 05:49:30

WWF Monday Night Raw
Week 4

With the Royal Rumble at the end of this week, we see Vince McMahon in overselling mode and Rob Bartlett doing whatever it is that Rob Bartlett does.

Jerry "The King" Lawler comes down the aisle with a microphone to make fun of the fans.  Notably, in the audience, is Sean Estes whom you might remember from Silk Stalkings on USA.  Lawler then takes a cheap shot at Jim Duggan before getting in the ring.

Jerry Lawler pinned Koko B. Ware with the Piledriver in 0:10:03.
Rating: ** 1/4

Lawler and Koko put on an excellent display here.  Ending came when Ware went for a flying axehandle when Lawler countered with a kick and the Piledriver for the victory.

Lawler spots a fan holding a Jim Duggan action figure.  Lawler steals it and proceeds to destroy it.  "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan charges down the aisle and chases Lawler out.  Duggan lifts the fan on his shoulder and parades around.

The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags) defeated Matt Bloom and Brad Martin when Sags pinned Bloom with the Flying Elbowdrop in 0:08:58.
Rating: **

Money Inc. watched from the entrance way to see The Nasty Boys pick up another victory here.  These two teams are destined for a match down the line, but it will have to wait for a bigger pay per view.

Backstage, Razor Ramon and Ric Flair give each other pep talks.  Flair mentions that Ramon will soften Hart up.

Owen Hart pinned Barry Horowitz with the Rocket Launcher in 0:09:13.
Rating: * 3/4

Nice display.  Horowitz makes Owen look good, and Owen has a spring of confidence in his step.

Owen grabs a microphone and challenges Ric Flair to a match on Superstars.  We get word that Jack Tunney will make a decision on this by the end of the night.

Rick Martel defeated Virgil when Virgil passed out in the Catwalk Crab in 0:09:13.
Rating: ***

Martel used the Arrogance again here and sprayed Virgil in the corner after using Virgil as a shield out of view of the referee.

Jim Duggan pinned El Bandito with the Old Glory in 0:09:35.
Rating: * 1/4

Duggan gets a typical pre-PPV face victory and allows the fan from earlier in the night to wave the American Flag in the ring.

MYSTERY ENTRANT (COULD BE ANYONE!!!)

We get word from the back that Jack Tunney has banned Ric Flair and Mr. Perfect from ringside tonight, but has decided that it will in fact be a title match.

Bret Hart made Razor Ramon submit to the Sharpshooter in 0:14:54.
Rating: *** 1/2
(Bret Hart retained the WWF World Title.)

Great match here.  Razor went for his belly to back off the top rope when Bret countered with a body block, but Razor got out of it.  Bret then hit an atomic drop followed by a running neckbreaker drop, then applied the SharpShooter for the victory.

As soon as the bell rang, Ric Flair hit the ring.  We go backstage and see that Mr. Perfect has been knocked out cold.  Owen Hart runs to the ring and makes the save for his brother.  We find out that Jack Tunney has signed Ric Flair against Owen Hart this Saturday on Superstars.

Next week on Raw

The Fallout from the Royal Rumble

Coming up on Superstars...
Owen Hart meets Ric Flair, plus Yokozuna in action.

Aight folks, a day or two for Rumble predictions and what-not.  See you then.
91Posted on 11/02/05 at 20:27:21

Ahhh, I love it when people do Royal Rumbles on these boards - when they're good, I tend to remember them better than anything else people do.

OK, I'm thinking, based on your small hints, that Ric Flair will walk out as the new champion. And 'tis cool that Owen is already going to be involved with his brother on a storyline level early on.

Michaels should retain the IC title here, I would have thought. Ramon/Perfect is a toughy but since we're a bit thin on face wins up till now, we'll give it to Perfect. And I think Lawler's taking Duggan, especially considering Duggan was on his way out by this stage anyway (and yes, I contradict that by picking Flair as my winner in his match...).

As for the Rumble, there's a few contenders - Perfect has already had his shot at Flair and Ramon has already had a title shot, so they're out. And I can't see Luger winning straight away (I'm looking for an impressive performance though). Undertaker as a long shot, but I think it's going to be the mystery guy, mostly because I've a sneaking suspicion on who it's going to be.
ianclarkPosted on 11/02/05 at 20:50:42

Right, I'll have a guess at some Royal Rumble results.

For the title match, I fancy "The Hitman" to come out on top, and I agree that Shawn Michaels will defend his title successfully.

I think Razor will beat Perfect and Lawler will defeat the woeful Duggan.

Now for the Rumble.  I must be stupid because the only person I can guess as the mystery entry is Hulk Hogan.  Either way I just can't see beyond Yokozuna or The Undertaker winning the rumble.

Keep up the good work!
91Posted on 11/02/05 at 23:08:47

Not stupid at all, Hogan's who I think it'll be (which in all makes sense). The only other person I can think of is Giant Gonzalez. Rick Martel is missing too now that I look, but that'd be the biggest "big deal" mystery guy ever seeing as he's already in the company.
djmasterscooterPosted on 11/03/05 at 00:37:04

WWF Superstars
Week 4

Gorilla and The Brain call the action.

Jerry Sags pinned Fatu with the Flying Elbowdrop in 0:09:51.
Rating: **

Interesting match here.  No storyline progression, but Sags makes himself look stronger as it appears a program with Money Inc. is on the horizon.

Yokozuna pinned Virgil with the Banzai Drop in 0:05:03.
Rating: ** 3/4

In an epic rematch from Survivor Series 1992, Virgil gets his ass handed to him here.

Backstage, Todd Pettingill gets a few words from Owen Hart.  He dedicates the match to his brother.

Ric Flair made Owen Hart submit to the Figure-Four Leglock in 0:14:57.
Rating: **** 1/4

A true classic as you can get here.  Flair and Owen went toe for toe here.  The end came when Owen went for the Rocket Launcher and Flair ducked out of the way.  Owen came down on his knee badly and Flair took advantage of it.  Owen couldn't stand the pain of the Figure Four, and tapped out.

After the match, Flair was joined by Razor Ramon to double team Owen.  Bret and Perfect charged the ring afterwards and a brawl broke out as Superstars ended.

The Royal Rumble is up next!!!!
djmasterscooterPosted on 11/05/05 at 10:02:50

The WWF Presents: Royal Rumble

We are shown a promo showcasing all of the matches here tonight.  We also get a highlight reel of superstars who are appearing in tonight's Royal Rumble.  The final image is of the question mark.

The pyrotechnics go off.  We have a three man broadcast team tonight.  Vince McMahon, Bobby Heenan, and Gorilla Monsoon call the action.

The King's Royal Music plays.  Jerry "The King" Lawler walks to the ring in a brand new purple robe.  He has a microphone again and takes really cheap shots at the audience.  Lawler finally gets to the ring.

We are shown some pre-recorded comments from Jim Duggan.  He says he's going to do it for the U.S.A.  Whatever that means.

The crowd hears a big HO!!!!  and it isn't Stephanie McMahon.  "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan storms the ring with his 2X4.  He enters the ring and Lawler attacks him from behind.

Jerry Lawler pinned Jim Duggan with the Piledriver in 0:12:42.
Rating: -1/4*

My god, Duggan really sucked in this one.  Lawler couldn't carry him to a decent match.  Duggan was off on his spots, and it threw Lawler off as a result.  Lawler takes advantage when Duggan goes for a back drop and then nails him with the Piledriver for the victory.

We're shown footage of Ric Flair and Razor Ramon arriving in the parking lot.  Ramon mentions that he's going to hand out the "perfect" beating tonight.

The cars come to a screeching halt as Razor Ramon makes his way to the ring with green and gold tights this time.  He gets to the ring and throws his toothpick in the face of Howard Finkel.

Backstage, Mean Gene interviews Mr. Perfect.  He says that Ramon has caused him a lot of grief.  He says that tonight the Bad Guy becomes the Dead Guy.

The music hits.  Mr. Perfect makes his way through the entrance, but stands there for a second.  He then charges the ring and the match begins.

Mr. Perfect pinned Razor Ramon with the Perfect Plex in 0:18:04.
Rating: *** 1/4

Wow.  What a great match.  Ramon worked the mat perfectly with Perfect, as the action went back and forth.  The end came when Ramon went for his belly-to-back suplex off the top rope when Perfect blocked it with elbows sending Ramon to the mat.  Perfect comes down on Ramon with an elbowdrop.  He whips Ramon to the corner, and Ramon moves.  Ramon kicks him, sets him up for a suplex, which is blocked and turned into the Perfect Plex for the 3-count.

Ramon looked pissed as he rolled out of the ring.  Mr. Perfect did not stay around to feel the wrath.

We are shown a video package of the Shawn Michaels/Marty Jannetty feud.

Shawn Michaels pinned Marty Jannetty with the Sweet Chin Music in 0:22:27.
Rating: **** 1/2
(Shawn Michaels retained the WWF Intercontinental Title.)

If any one believed that Jannetty wasn't a contender, then they were proven wrong here tonight.  The brilliant action and storytelling were a plus, as many near falls were counted.  Eventually, Jannetty walks right into Sweet Chin Music from Shawn Michaels for the 3-count.  Michaels retains.  That Sweet Chin Music is a very powerful move.  It's new in his arsenal.

Mean Gene interviews challenger for the WWF Championship, Ric Flair in the dressing room.  Flair exclaims the infamous speech, and claims Bret Hart is the man and tonight you have to beat the man in order to be the man.

In another backstage area, Todd Pettingill interviews the champion Bret Hart.  Bret is pissed about what Flair did to Owen, but he is going to do all he can to make sure that he is still champion at the end of the night.  Bret is asked about who he'd like to see win the Rumble tonight.  He says he'd love for Owen to win.

Ric Flair pinned Bret Hart after a roll up in 0:24:15.
Rating: **** 1/4
(Ric Flair won the WWF World Title.)

Yes.  We have a new WWF Champion!!!  This was a technical masterpiece from two greats.  Bret went for the SharpShooter, but Flair pulled him into the post.  The ref was knocked down and Bret went to check on him.  When Bret turned around, Flair nailed him with brass knuckles.  Flair then rolled up Hart as a dazed referee counted a three count for a victory and another title reign in the notch of Ric Flair.

Flair celebrates in the ring as Bret Hart looks back distraught.  He makes a motion to Flair saying that he will get the title back.

We see a montage of fans explaining who they want to win the Rumble tonight.  Some want Lex Luger, some want The Undertaker, others want others.

You read it right.  HULK HOGAN WAS THE MYSTERY ENTRANT!!!  IT SHOCKED EVERYONE.  Hogan enters in the late twenties and won by eliminating The Mountie after six minutes of action.  Other notable events including The Undertaker assisting Lex Luger in eliminating Yokozuna, the biggest man in the Rumble.  Luger lasted six minutes in the Rumble, but made quite an impact.

As the show ends, Hulk Hogan poses in the ring as streamers and confetti come down.  He starts getting teary as Hulk is the first superstar to win a third Royal Rumble, but now we look to WrestleManix IX and the main event featuring the last two Royal Rumbles.

At WrestleMania IX, it will be Ric Flair facing Hulk Hogan for the WWF Championship

Good night and god bless.

Great job on the Royal Rumble!!

Hogan v Flair !  Of course, why didn't McMahon do that at a Wrestlemania? It would have been huge!!

Hogan enters in the late twenties, very realistic, he always seemed to enter in the twenties at the time, so much for luck of the draw!!

I'm really enjoying reading your circuit, keep up the good work!

They never did Hogan vs Flair for a good reason, as Hogan was on his way out after Wrestlemania VIII and they were looking for Flair to lose the title. What would have been the point of Hogan winning it, only to vacate it, mere weeks after the title had previously been vacant. If anything, they did a decent salvage job by throwing Savage and Sid into the mix.

And this show demonstrates one of the underlying problems with TNM - when left to it's own devices, Royal Rumbles have the same old problem in that for most of the match you don't have more than three guys in there at any one time - The Mountie draws #30 and there's only Hogan left in there. Oh well, I suppose we didn't get anything like Virgil throwing out Yokozuna. And I called the winner so that's got to be a plus. Bring on the build for Hogan vs Flair...
ianclarkPosted on 11/06/05 at 16:58:31

So that explains the story behind Hogan v Flair never happening in the WWF, thanks for that, I didn't know the real reason.  Before the internet, we didn't get a lot of the "behind the scenes" stuff here in the U.K.

I have to say I thought the end of the Rumble was odd with just Hogan and The Mountie, but I also must say I've run at least 20 rumble matches and never had less than 6 men in the ring when the final entrant made their appearance, so I guess it was just an "unusual" rumble!
91Posted on 11/06/05 at 17:27:28

I often find I get the three or less guys for half the match, then after the halfway point, nobody gets thrown out and I end up with about 17 guys at the end. Oh well, I end up editing everything anyway, so I'm not complaining too much.
Snabbit888Posted on 11/06/05 at 18:25:08

I tend to get that a lot too.  I've had Rumbles where literally there is no more than 3 men in the match the whole time.  Someone enters, quick skirmish, someone's eliminated.  Next guy comes in, rinse, repeat.  Either that, or no one gets eliminated and the match lasts 2 and a half hours.

This circuit is so much fun. Can't wait for the Mania main event - the way it should have been.
djmasterscooterPosted on 11/18/05 at 06:10:51

My circuit is not dead.  I just got a new computer and am moving everything to the new one.  Updates shall resume within the next few days.

Monday Night Raw
February, Week 1

A highlight reel of last night's Royal Rumble is shown.  This includes Hogan's Rumble Victory, and Flair's cheap title win.

Vince McMahon and Rob Bartlett call the action.

Yokozuna pinned Matt Bloom with the Banzai Drop in 0:07:09.
Rating: * 1/4

The huge monster picks up a squash victory here, toying with Bloom until he decided he had enough.  Mr. Fuji stays around and mentions that Yokozuna had one of the longest times in the Rumble, and that if it weren't for The Undertaker, then it would be him challenging for the WWF Championship.

We get word that Ric Flair will defend the WWF Championship tonight against Tito Santana

Tatanka pinned Barry Horowitz with the End of the Trail in 0:08:42.
Rating: ** 1/4

Tatanka picks up a clean victory here.  Nothing shabby about that is there.

Bam Bam Bigelow pinned Kamala with the Greetings from Asbury Park in 0:11:07.
Rating: * 1/4

Bigelow and Kamala have a big man battle back in forth.  Nothing too impressive, but Bigelow gets the better of the Ugandan Giant here tonight.

We are shown an advertisement for WrestleMania IX, and The Road To WrestleMania, airing at the end of February on USA.

Doink the Clown pinned Max Moon after a flying forearm in 0:08:44.
Rating: ** 1/4

Doink wins.  Classic heel victory.  Nothing too exciting, but a decent match none the less.

Lex Luger's debut is highlighted from the Royal Rumble, including eliminating Yokozuna, and being eliminated by Hulk Hogan.

Lex Luger defeated Virgil when Virgil passed out in the Torture Rack in 0:04:30.
Rating: ** 3/4

Luger squashes Virgil, and looks impressive doing it.

Ric Flair made Tito Santana submit to the Figure-Four Leglock in 0:16:05.
Rating: ***
(Ric Flair retained the WWF World Title.)

No surprise.  Like anyone believed that Tito Santana would win the title tonight.  Flair was in classic form as usual.

Flair stays in the ring after the match, only for us to discover that we wil defend the title at Road To WrestleMania before Hogan, but who is the opponent?  None other than Bob Backlund.

ianclarkPosted on 01/04/06 at 21:59:58

Is this circuit dead, cos I was really enjoying it?
djmasterscooterPosted on 01/25/06 at 06:55:20

Okay.  We're not dead.  We're coming back.  I lost the book I had with everything, but it should be okay.

WWF Superstars
February, Week 1

Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan call the action.

We are treated to an interview with Bob Backlund.  He claims that it has been a long time since he's tasted WWF gold.  He makes the statement that everyone has wanted to see Backlund and Flair go at it since the days of the AWA.  Backlund leaves the area and heads to the ring.

Bob Backlund defeated Brooklyn Brawler when Brooklyn Brawler passed out in the Crossface Chickenwing in 0:07:52.
Rating: ** 3/4

Backlund was impressive.  His submission finisher is definitely going to be an advantage when he meets Ric Flair at The Road to WrestleMania.

Jerry Lawler pinned Virgil after a backbreaker in 0:14:19.
Rating: ***

Lawler continues to demonstrate day in and day out that he has exceptional talent.  It would be a shame if it goes to waste as an announcer or something.  Virgil was no match, but come to think of it, has Virgil ever been a match for anybody since 1991?

Randy Savage pinned Papa Shango with the Flying Elbowdrop in 0:14:05.
Rating: ** 1/4

To end our show this week, we have a monthly excursion from Randy Savage, who put on a decent showing with our resident Voodoo Man.  Not good for him though, although rumor has it that Shango could be on the positive end of a monster push.

We end with an advertisement for WrestleMania IX, and a screen cap of Hogan/Flair.

Coming up on Raw
Hulk Hogan & Bob Backlund team up for the first time ever against Ric Flair and The Mountie, plus The Undertaker and Bam Bam Bigelow in action.
