MY NEW WWF CIRCUIT

ianclarkPosted on 01/01/06 at 20:32:35

December 1st 1988:  Vince McMahon shocks everyone by announcing he is unhappy with the state of wrestling and has decided to make big changes to the WWF.  All contracts have been cancelled, all titles vacated and a new Head Booker has been hired - Ian Clark!

At a press conference Clark announces that during the course of the next month the "new" WWF roster will be established, with an unprecedented, almost unlimited budget!

There will be 7 pay per view events per year, a European Tour each year and a fortnightly T.V. show called "Saturday Night Slam".  The first pay per view will be Royal Rumble 1989, which will feature a 30 man over the top rope Royal Rumble match for the WWF World Heavyweight Title as well as a Tag Team Tournament to determine the new WWF World Tag Team champions.

I'm excited about this!  :)

Are you going with the exact WWF roster of 88/89?
ianclarkPosted on 01/01/06 at 21:14:52

I haven't decided about the roster yet.  Part of me thinks to try and keep to the actual WWF roster of the time, but another part of me (and the storyline I've created), suggest signing wrestlers from all over the place!

I'll have to give it some more thought....

Is there a site that lists actual rosters of each year in the WWF/WCW?
KagePosted on 01/01/06 at 21:25:50

Gordon Solie's old site will get you up to about the mid 90's after that I dunno.

ianclarkPosted on 01/01/06 at 21:32:41

Thanks for the help but I've already got available all the wrestlers from the WWF, WCW and ECW (plus some extras from Japan, independents etc.), that I have seen wrestle from the late 80's onwards.

I'm only going with wrestlers I've seen myself cos that's the only way to write believable storylines, I think.

I didn't know about that site. Thanks!
Masked_TexanPosted on 01/01/06 at 22:57:05

Technically, it's not Gordon's site.

It is Earl Oliver's, a relative of pro wrestler, Rip Oliver, I believe.

Anyhow, I'm also looking forward to your circuit.

I would never name my kid Rip.  ;D

Like you said, the build up suggests a new roster, so I'd go with that (without overdoing it - getting every main eventer in the world at the time would be a little much).

I've found someone smarter than me (not tricky I know). to set up a website for my circuit.  There are no cards at the moment, but they will be added in the next few days.  The link is:

SockoPosted on 01/14/06 at 03:31:57

Just a quick note to inform y'all that the site has been given an overhaul, and the first 3 shows are in place. :)
VertigoPosted on 01/14/06 at 16:31:53

I think the sight looks great. I enjoyed the Royal Rumble report. Dibiase is impressive. I also liked how Steamboat eliminated Andre alone which said that he might have a chance at winning this one, but when it came down to Hogan and him, I figured Hogan had it in the bag. But nope, Steamboat pulled it out.
ianclarkPosted on 01/15/06 at 12:05:05

Thanks for the comments.  It's hard work doing "proper" reports rather than just listing results but I think the effort is worth it.

Thanks again!

Murphy - regarding the Roster page, this has been intentional so as not to 'announce' a new addition before a card has been posted or read .. perhaps I'll add a "correct as of [date]" comment on the Roster section? :)
SockoPosted on 01/22/06 at 15:35:42
