[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 4/4/05

Snabbit888Posted on 01/15/06 at 02:01:57

Welcome to the New Orleans Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana! And welcome to Monday Night Explosion! As the days pass us by, we get ever closer to Deadly Draw, and tonight, the final names will be announced for the Deadly Draw match, the winner of which will go on to wrestle for the World Heavyweight Title at Super Cade II! On tonight's show, we will have an interview with Jeff Hardy where he will explain why exactly he turned on his own flesh and blood, Matt Hardy! In wrestling action, the World's Greatest Tag Team defend the World Tag Team Titles against Booker T and Goldust! Plus Randy Orton takes on Eric Angle, and in our main event, a rematch from Proving Ground as Kurt Angle defends the World Heavyweight Title against North American champion Monty Brown! But first, it's falls-count-anywhere as Rey Mysterio Jr. locks horns with Rhyno!

Match #1
Falls-Count-Anywhere Match
Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Rhyno
We kicked off the evening with a brutal affair between Rey Mysterio Jr. and Rhyno, falls-count-anywhere. Mysterio was the one who asked for this match, but it was right up Rhyno's alley. The Manbeast has a storied history in hardcore wrestling and he knows how to get it done when the rulebook is thrown out the window. Mysterio knew this coming in, but he also knew this would be the only way to get Rhyno off his back once and for all. As we expected, Mysterio suffered a lot of damage in this one, Rhyno essentially toying with the much smaller Mysterio. The Manbeast was taking Mysterio far too lightly, even pulling Mysterio's shoulders up off the mat after what looked to be a pinfall after a piledriver on a steel chair. Rhyno was savoring this, and he wanted to finish Mysterio off in the worst way he could think of, and that was with a Gore through a table. Rhyno retrieved a table from under the ring and propped it up in the corner and awaited Mysterio to get back to his feet. When Mysterio did, Rhyno charged in, but Mysterio leap frogged over him and Rhyno crashed head first through the table! The table was reduced to splinters as Mysterio pulled Rhyno out to the center of the ring and placed the steel chair on his face. Mysterio went on to Drop the Dime and made the cover for the win.

No-Countout-No-DQ-Falls-Count-Anywhere Match:
Rey Mysterio Jr. pinned Rhyno after the Drop of the Dime in 0:07:19.
Rating: ** 1/4

The crowd cheered on Mysterio who overcame the odds to win this match, but the cheers soon turned to boos when CM PUNK ran in and blasted Mysterio from behind with the Television Title! Punk fired away at Mysterio with hard right hands and even tried to tear Mysterio's mask off, but Punk was stopped and ran off when MATT HARDY ran in to make the save.

JEFF HARDY EXPLAINS WHY HE TURNED ON HIS BROTHER
Joey O'Donnell conducted an interview with Jeff Hardy, who was out to explain the reason why he turned on his brother Matt and sided with the Prophecy. Jeff went off on a long diatribe, outlining the several reasons why he did what he did. He started by saying that when he agreed to come back to wrestling and team up with his brother, he had visions of glory. "I didn't come back to be a loser, Matt, and thanks to you, that's what I was!" He continued to say that the team was always about Matt and Matt alone. "You got to make all the decisions, not me! When something went wrong, it was my fault! 'Oh you're not trying hard enough, Jeff! You're not doing this! Why did you do that?' It was all about you and that damn whore Lita!" Jeff continued tearing into Lita, saying she's the straw that broke the camel's back. "Matt, you're my brother, but you need to be taught a lesson. And along with the Prophecy, I'm going to teach you that lesson." Jeff finished by praising the teachings and direction of CM Punk almost as if he was a cult leader. The mind control Punk has over his followers is astounding. I know Matt Hardy doesn't want to have to fight his brother, but with Jeff's mindset, I don't think he is going to have a choice if he wants to end this.

Match #2
Low-Ki vs. Kid Kash
Another tough challenge for Kid Kash tonight as he took on Low-Ki. With every win that he gets, Kash becomes just a little bit cockier, and Low-Ki was looking to take some of the wind out of his sails. As Ki has a tendency to do, he controlled the early moments of the match with his ultra-aggressive nature, kicking the tar out of the Notorious K.I.D. Kash was doing his best to keep distance between himself and the quick feet of the former Cruiserweight champion. An opportunistic eye poke got Kash on the offensive, and he controlled the next portion of the match, working on Low-Ki's back. He hit a huge tilt-a-whirl backbreaker that earned him a nearfall. After a nice powerslam, Kash yelled, "THAT'S IT!" and went up top, but his attempt at a senton was ill-advised as Ki got out of the way. Low-Ki gained some momentum, taking Kash down with his martial arts offense and smashed Kash in the corner with the Tidal Crush. Low-Ki climbed to the top rope, but Kash gave referee JD Sanders a shove into the ropes which resulted in Ki crotching himself up top. Kash then brought Ki down with a Frankensteiner from the top rope which was just enough to keep his shoulders to the mat for the three.

Kid Kash pinned Low-Ki after a Frankensteiner from the top rope in 0:06:15.
Rating: *** 3/4

The wins keep coming for Kid Kash thanks to a string of opportunities and good luck. Word around the locker room is that the way Kash is winning some of these matches is starting to frustrate the cruiserweight division. It'll be interesting to see how long he can keep this good luck going.

Match #3
"Y2J" Chris Jericho vs. Sean O'Haire
With a big match at Deadly Draw ahead of him against Randy Orton, "Y2J" Chris Jericho wanted to keep himself sharp by wrestling the Prophecy's Sean O'Haire, who is by no means a gimme win. Once the bell rang, Jericho used his finesse to get the early edge. This was the window that Randy Orton was looking for as he wasted little time in getting in there and jumping Y2J from behind.

Chris Jericho defeated Sean O'Haire by disqualification in 0:01:17.
Rating: **

Orton was firing up on Jericho, but Y2J fired right back with right hands of his own. Jericho hit the ropes and ducked under a clothesline attempt from Orton, hitting the far ropes, and taking the third generation star down with a flying forearm. Jericho went for the Lionsault, but Orton was able to get his knees up. When Orton got back up, BAM! R.K.O.! Between his problems with Team Angle and Jericho, Randy Orton is out on an island right now.

FRANKIE KAZARIAN HAS A SURPRISE FOR PAUL LONDON
Mario Riviera was with Paul London and asked him if he was worried at all about the challenge of Frankie Kazarian at Deadly Draw. London says that he knows what Kazarian is all about, and knows that Kazarian will do anything and everything to make sure he walks out April 17th as the Cruiserweight champion. London reminds Riviera though, "I've held my Cruiserweight Title longer than any champ in GCW has held their titles, and I've taken on all comers and I'm still the Cruiserweight champ, and Deadly Draw will be no different." At this point, The Future himself interjected himself. "That's good, Paul. That's really goo. I want you to be confident. I want you to be sure of yourself. I want you to be certain of victory. It will make kicking your ass and taking the Cruiserweight Title that much sweeter. So don't you worry, Paul. You have a couple more weeks to enjoy your title. Take some pictures, show your friends and family, because at Deadly Draw, I have a big surprise for you." As Kazarian walked away, London said, "Don't worry, Kazarian. I love surprises."

Match #4
World Tag Team Title Match
The World's Greatest Tag Team (c) vs. Booker T/Goldust (w/ Sharmell)
The World's Greatest Tag Team has been battling with Booker T and Goldust for the past couple weeks, coming out on top each time. However, if they didn't come out on top this time, they'd be without the World Tag Team Titles. Sharmell had her men jacked up for this match and they wrestled like they were up to the challenge of becoming the champions. It's hard to argue that the World's Greatest Tag team have been the upper echelon of tag team wrestling in the first year of GCW, and you need to have your best match if you hope to beat them. Well, Booker and Goldust did give WGTT their best shot, but it wasn't meant to be tonight as Haas got Booker T in the Haas of Pain, and when Goldust came in to break it up, Shelton Benjamin grabbed him and dropped him with the T-Bone Powerslam. Booker had to submit or else risk permanent damage.

The World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) defeated Booker T and Goldust when C. Haas made Booker submit to the Haas of Pain in 0:08:54.
Rating: **** 1/4
(The World's Greatest Tag Team retained the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

Sharmell's men came close, but tonight was not their night. They're not going anywhere though, and I fully expect them to contend for the World Tag Team Titles in the future.

JUSTIN CREDIBLE IS INTRODUCED TO HIS NEW MANAGER
Commissioner Tommy Dreamer called Justin Credible into his office before his match. As he had promised two weeks ago, Dreamer was introducing Credible to his brand-new manager. Credible was not thrilled about this. "I don't want a new manager, Dreamer! I want another shot at the Cruiserweight Title!" "Well," Dreamer started, "fat chance of that happening. And besides, with this guy leading you, the sky's the limit! You could even one day be a, get this, World Heavyweight champion! So with that, I present to you... THE COLONEL!" And on cue, there was the Colonel (Col. Robert Parker/Tennessee Lee). Why as he called the Colonel? You guessed it - he was dressed like Col. Sanders of KFC fame. Credible was not amused, but the arena of GCW fans sure were. Dreamer just smiled as he told Credible and the Colonel that Credible's match was next. The Commish isn't going to let Credible forget this "Chicken Boy" thing for a long time.

Match #5
"Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero vs. "Chicken Boy" Justin Credible (w/ The Colonel)
If being called Chicken Boy and having a costume party version of Col. Sanders for a manager wasn't bad enough, Justin Credible had to face the unstable number-one-contender, "Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero. Right from the get go, it looked like Credible wasn't taking well to the Colonel's instructions, mostly because the Colonel seemed to be yelling out chicken recipes at Credible. Regardless, poor Credible didn't stand much of a chance against Guerrero.

Eddie Guerrero pinned Justin Credible after spinning headscissors in 0:02:16.
Rating: *** 1/2

A rocky start to the Colonel/Credible team as Guerrero wins in quick fashion. These wins are great for momentum, but Latino Heat is going to have a much harder time ahead of him at Deadly Draw.

KURT ANGLE WANTS STEVE BRADLEY OUT OF JAIL
World Heavyweight champion Kurt Angle burst into Tommy Dreamer's office, demanding to know why it has been a week and GCW has done nothing to get Steve Bradley out of jail. Dreamer tried to explain to Angle that this was a matter for the courts and that GCW had no jurisdiction over this case. Angle wasn't satisfied with this answer, saying he needed Bradley to be down at ringside with him for his match tonight with Monty Brown. Dreamer told him that he didn't, and warned Angle that no member of Team Angle better get involved in tonight's main event.

Match #6
Randy Orton vs. Eric Angle
Randy Orton is a man without a ship. He is not a welcome member of Team Angle despite his turning on Chris Jericho a couple of weeks ago. And for Orton, he's perfectly content with that. Murmurs backstage say he is happy being without friends and that the only thing he is concerned with is making himself the World Heavyweight champion. He's definitely in the picture, but he's not quite there yet. A win over Eric Angle tonight would certainly help his case. Angle however is looking to become the North American champion at Deadly Draw against Monty Brown, and this would be a huge boost of momentum. Though both of these men are technically sound, this one didn't take long to degenerate into a slugfest. Referee Antonio Santangelo had to make several warnings to both men for the bending of the rules, but to say that Santangelo's authority wasn't respected would be an understatement. Eventually the fight spilled to the floor and both men were counted out.

Eric Angle and Randy Orton battled to a double countout in 0:09:20.
Rating: ** 3/4

Though neither man won the man, for Orton and Angle, what's more important is that they didn't lose etiher as momentum is absolutely huge in this sport.

JOHN BRADSHAW LAYFIELD GIVES THE BASHAMS ONE MORE CHANCE
JBL met with the Bashams before their match with Abyss and The Hurricane. JBL hammered home that this was the last chance that they had to impress him and get the job done. The Bashams told him not to worry as they had a plan and they could guarantee victory. "That's what I like to hear," JBL retorted. Shaniqua and her men seemed confident about this match, which helped keep JBL at ease.

Match #7
Abyss vs. The Basham Brothers (w/ Shaniqua & Lamont)
The Bashams said that they had a plan for this match, and it didn't take them long to implement it. The Hurricane and Abyss were introduced separately, starting with Abyss. When The Hurricane was introduced, he was nailed from behind by a hard chair shot from Doug Basham! The superhero was out and officials helped him to the back. Referee Petey Pluck gave Abyss the option of postponing the match or making this a handicap match, and when Abyss floored the Bashams with a double clothesline, it was obvious what his choice was. Abyss' adrenaline propelled him through the early minutes, but the numbers game got the Bashams on top. Doug and Danny used the fact that they look so similar to their advantage as well, making frequent illegal switches. This is a tactic they used successfully during their World Tag Team Title reigns but had gotten away from it. Immoral, but effective. The Bashams couldn't seem to put the monster away though, and as more time passed, the Bashams left themselves open to more mistakes. After an errant clothesline from Danny nailed Doug, Abyss took control and never looked back. After taking Danny out with a Torture Rack Drop, the Black Hole Slam was delivered to Doug Basham and against all odds, Abyss had won!

Handicap-Match:
Abyss defeated The Basham Brothers (Danny Basham and Doug Basham) when Abyss pinned Doug Basham with the Black Hole Slam in 0:13:01.
Rating: *** 3/4

This has to be a dagger in JBL's chest. The Basham Brothers haven't been able to get it done, even when singling Abyss out in a handicap match. Shaniqua was left in a state of disbelief, leaving to the back without even waiting for her men. If I were the Bashams, I wouldn't want to go to the back right now because JBL is not going to be happy.

Match #8
MAIN EVENT
World Heavyweight Title Match
Kurt Angle (c) vs. "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown (North American champion)
Main event time, and it was a big one as the World Heavyweight Title was on the line. In a rematch from Proving Ground, Kurt Angle defended his title against "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown. Brown's North American Title was not on the line. Angle successfully defended his gold the first meeting by clocking Brown upside the head with the title belt, and Brown hadn't soon forgotten. This match was similar to their battle at the pay-per-view as Angle couldn't find much of an answer to Brown's power. Unlike at Proving Ground though, Angle did a better job of adapting when his mat wrestling wasn't working. Angle used a little "fighting spirit" if you will and used a more devastating hard-hitting style than he usually does. Brown got back on the offensive though and was leading to putting Angle away, but when he tried to whip Angle into he corner, the champ reversed it and Brown smashed referee Jimmy Appleseed, taking him out of commission.

Brown had a brief moment where he checked to make sure the ref was all right, but in doing so, he left himself wide open to a low blow from Angle. With Brown incapacitated, Angle retrieved the World Heavyweight Title from the timekeeper's table. Angle rushed into the ring and caught Brown in the face with the title belt and it looked like we had a repeat of Proving Ground. Angle shook the ref to revive him and Appleseed made the slow one.... two.... thr... NO! KICKOUT! Brown kicked out! The crowd was on its feet as Angle could not believe the Alpha Male was still alive and kicking. Appleseed was still trying to shake out the cobwebs as Angle clasped the World Heavyweight Title one more time. Angle measured Brown up when we heard a commotion from the crowd as a man jumped over the guardrail and was in the ring behind Angle... OH MY GOD! It's BROCK LESNAR! The crowd was going INSANE as Lesnar stood behind Angle, waiting for him to turn around. Angle wound up to nail Brown, but Lesnar grabbed his arm. Angle turned around to see who stopped him, and he had a look of absolute terror on his face when he saw it was the Monster From Minnesota! Lesnar scooped Angle up and dropped him with the F-5! Unfortunately for Monty Brown, Jimmy Appleseed saw this and called for the disqualification.

Kurt Angle defeated Monty Brown by disqualification in 0:10:01.
Rating: ****
(Kurt Angle retained the GCW World Heavyweight Title.)

Lesnar grabbed the microphone from ring announcer William Buck and got right in the unconscious Angle's face and simply said, "Guess who's in Deadly Draw!?" Brock Lesnar is back, and he has thrown his name into the hat for Deadly Draw! Despite coming off of an injury, Lesnar has to be considered one of the favorites going into this match.

The card for Deadly Draw, live from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas on January 17th, is now officially complete! It should prove to be one of the finest nights of wrestling for the entire year!

Here are my predictions for Deadly Draw....

Paul London VS. Frankie Kazarian: Paul London has been on a huge roll and has even managed to dispatch of Justin Credible and see this as no different

CM Punk VS Rey Mysterio: Even without The Prophecy, I see CM Punk defeating Mysterio and retaining the title

Monty Brown VS Eric Angle: Eric Angle has been very impressive and to my knowledge has never lost a singles match and think a title reign is in his future.

Chris Jericho VS Randy Orton: This is a tough one to call and I think this can be anybody's wrestling match, but if I had to make a prediction, I predict Randy Orton coming out on top

Kurt Angle VS Eddie Gurrero: Another tough one to call, but I see Kurt Angle defeating Eddie to retain the World Title, once again
Snabbit888Posted on 01/21/06 at 06:07:18

What about for the Deadly Draw match itself?
TrancePosted on 01/21/06 at 06:27:46

I think Brock Lesner will win the Draw
