91 | Posted on 01/15/06 at 15:32:06 By the way, a little extra curricular here, I graded those who made picks for Revenge is Sweet... Ghost Mask III: 4/10 Snabbitt: 7/10 Kage: 5/10 Collectively, that's just over half marks. Los Villanos vs Hunter Hearst-Helmsley & Rockabilly Rockabilly getting the upset over Brad Armstrong last night was truly disgusting, but worse still, he was back in action today as he and Hunter Hearst Helmsley teamed up for the first time against Los Villanos. Los Villanos actually looked better tonight than they have done in a long while, but one cheap shot from Rockabilly to Villano IV from the apron allowed Helmsley to hit the Pedigree and get a win that was harder than it should have been. Of course, they couldn't rest on their laurels for too long as "The Rock" Brad Armstrong raced down to the ring and took it to both of them. Rockabilly made a very quick exit, leaving Armstrong to nail Helmsley with a series of rights followed by the Rock Bottom and Peoples Elbow. Armstrong then locked eyes at Rockabilly still at ringside and gave chase all the way to the back. Hopefully Rockabilly has a fast car, else there could be trouble. Hunter Hearst-Helmsley & Rockabilly defeated Los Villanos (Villano IV and Villano V) when Hearst-Helmsley pinned Villano IV with the Pedigree in 0:07:07. Rating: * 1/2 "Unnecessarily Evil" John Cena vs Super Calo John Cena had an easy ride today by comparison to many others. Taking on Super Calo, he was pushed sufficiently to have been made to work without being seriously challenged, and he put Calo away with the Eighth Deadly Sin in due course. One man not impressed was Larry Zbyszko who appeared on the video wall after the match and told Cena that he may have gotten one up on him last night, but he's still standing and he challenged Cena for a match at Badd Blood. Cena let Larry down, telling him 'you won't have time to face me'. Larry was puzzled, but Cena soon revealed what he meant, saying Larry might have been able to run from Bruno Sammartino last night, but he wouldn't be able to run when they went one on one at Badd Blood. Zbyszko looked shocked at this, while Cena looked smug at his arranging this match. And he's right - Larry won't be able to run this time. John Cena pinned Super Calo with the Eighth Deadly Sin in 0:06:39. Rating: *** Ken Shamrock vs Gene Snitsky & Heidenreich Matt Hardy had obviously enjoyed his "victory" over Dynamite Kid last night, and I use inverted commas due to the cheapness of his win. Still, fearing a retaliation, he'd sent a memo to Dynamite instructing him not to turn up tonight or face permanent unpaid suspension until the end of his extensive contract. The Syndicate, on the other hand, were allowed here. Their disappointment at not winning the tag titles last night was compounded by their having to compete in seperate matches tonight, and Ken Shamrock was first up, going into a ridiculous handicap situation against Gene Snitsky and Heidenreich. Shamrock was indeed outnumbered but put forth a great effort anyway, several times getting takedowns of sorts on both men frequently, but never having the chance to put any sort of hold on for very long as invariably he'd clamp something on one opponent, only for the other to quickly break it up. And eventually it all proved too much for him. For a split second, he had put Heidenreich down, and had Snitsky in the ankle lock, only for Heidenreich to recover and take Shamrock down from behind before putting him away with the Nail in the Coffin. And as per Matt Hardys orders from ringside, the two then put the boots to Shamrock. Handicap-Match: Gene Snitsky & Heidenreich (Gene Snitsky and Heidenreich) defeated Ken Shamrock when Heidenreich pinned Shamrock with the Nail in the Coffin in 0:06:16. Rating: ** 1/2 La Resistance challenge The Pitbulls La Resistance are furious at losing their Intercontinental tag team titles, but the news was already in that Pitbull #1 had blown his calf muscle last night, and La Resistance were demanding a rematch. Reminding Matt Hardy that all former champions have a 30 day rematch clause should they wish to use it, they were wanting a title match tonight. Matt might be power crazy these days but he knew the situation as he saw it, and called Pitbull #2 to his office. The remaining Pitbull then informed La Resistance that he was taking advantage of a lesser known rule in that champions don't have to honour that 30 day rematch on any set date the ex champions request and he can have the match when he wants within that timeframe. Matt Hardy didn't seem overly concerned, and La Resistance didn't get their rematch tonight, but Pitbull #1 will be out for much more than 30 days. By the end of the month, Pitbull #2 will have to defend that title in some manner, and when he does, he could be in trouble. Edge & Christian (c) vs Doug Furnas & Phil LaFon (tag team titles, 2/3 falls) Tonight featured two tag team matches that were of sorts two out of three falls. Whilst Hayabusa and Tajiri would take on the Miracle Violence Connection under elimination rules, Furnas and LaFon got their chance at the tag team titles under straight 2/3 falls rules against Edge and Christian. The timing seemed perfect for Furnas and LaFon with Edge and Christian having tired themselves last night in a tough match against The Syndicate. But if they thought things were going to be simple, they would soon be thinking again. As Edge and Christian made their entrance, the challengers rushed them in the aisle and the bell rung with Edge and Furnas brawling in the aisle. LaFon took the early shots on Christian in the ring, but running off the ropes, he was tripped by Edge, and while LaFon turned round to berate him, Christian snuck in with the Unprettier to get the first fall in a matter of forty seconds. Furnas and LaFon needed to regroup BIG time, and that they did as the match settled down to a regular pace. It took almost another quarter of an hour for fall number two to occur. This time it did go to the challengers, when out of nowhere, LaFon hooked Christian up in a crucifix to get the second fall. Such is the delicate nature of a champions reign. The deciding fall took on a more desperate nature from both teams. Doug Furnas though took over on Edge and was doing a real number on him, at which point Phil LaFon made a blind tag and came in, only to be intercepted by Christian who came in illegally. In the confusion, Furnas hit the Frankensteiner on Edge but the ref ushered him out as he wasn't the legal man. Furnas wasn't sure what had happened but in the further confusion, Edge came back up and caught LaFon with the Downward Spiral, and this time it was enough to get the three. A hard fought win for the champions, but while they celebrated, and the gutted champions left, with Furnas looking particularly distraught, Pretty Perfect appeared at the curtain to congratulate Edge and Christian, before telling them to enjoy the next few weeks as champions, because it would be their last before the belts returned to their "rightful homes". Owen agreed with Hennigs sentiments, noting that whilst Edge and Christian made good champions, maybe even great, they just weren't... PERFECT! Two-out-of-three-Falls Match: Edge & Christian (Edge and Christian) beat Doug Furnas & Phil Lafon (Doug Furnas and Phil Lafon) 2 falls to 1: x Christian beat Lafon via the Unprettier in 0:00:41 x Lafon beat Christian via a crucifix in 0:14:13 x Edge beat Lafon via the Downward Spiral in 0:17:06 Rating: **** 1/2 (Edge & Christian retained the Tag Team Titles.) Rey Mysterio vs Hector Guerrero Rey Mysterio found himself up against one of the tougher members of the Guerrero clan, Hector. We expected a fast paced match and we got just that, with both men having seemingly unlimited stamina. Hector seemed a little wilier, as per his willingness to cheat at all times, but Rey didn't get where he is today by being unknowing to this sort of approach and consistently kept Hector thinking with anything he had to throw at him. Hector finally caught up with Rey and kept him down by catching him coming off the top and drilling a big powerbomb that somehow only got two. Still Hector kept pressing his advantage and looked to hit the big capture suplex off the top that he'd used at Clash of the Champions. Rey had scouted him well though and held on to the ropes to prevent him from being thrown down. Now Rey was coming on the attack and took Hector down with a drop toe hold that allowed him to hit the 619 and take a hard fought win. Any celebration didn't last long, as Kurt Angle appeared, attacking Rey from behind and clamping on the ankle lock submission for as long as he could. Angle got a couple of kicks in too before officials pushed him back. Angle did however have a few parting words, telling Rey that no stinking fruit selling Mexican would cost him a shot at the world title and get away with it. And knowing Angle, you know he means every word. Rey Mysterio pinned Hector Guerrero with the 619 in 0:09:46. Rating: *** 1/2 Hayabusa & Tajiri vs The Miracle Violence Connection (elimination rules) The next match of the night saw a mini elimination match as we got ourselves a look at Hayabusa & Tajiri vs The Miracle Violence Connection in the latest in their well documented feud. Things began brightly for the Japanese duo as they won the early exchanges with Tajiri taking Gordy aside, whilst Hayabusa took out Williams with some martial arts style moves before finishing with the Stardust Press for the first pin. With Terry Gordy up against it, he had to hold off both Hayabusa and Tajiri as best he could, and amazingly he went some way to doing it when Tajiri went for the green mist, only for Gordy to duck. Hayabusa almost caught it himself, but managed to avoid most of it, but Gordy still found the opening to roll Tajiri up for a quick three. From there it came down to two former television champions. Hayabusa was fine, though one side of his mask was slightly greened. Nonetheless, he was on fire and doing a good job taking Gordy down, at which point out walked our esteemed world champion Don Muraco, along with manager Jeff Hardy. Jeff Hardy uses a small pause in the action to distract the ref whilst Muraco hopped on the apron and dropped Busa throat first across the top rope. Gordy saw the chance to lock in the Asiatic Spike, and it was enough for the victory. Later, we heard from Muraco who said that now he's dealt with Raven, he's gone through practically everyone, so it was time to finish off anyone else who ever crossed him in any way, shape or form, starting with Hayabusa next week, and finishing with Rhyno at Badd Blood. Just to make sure Hayabusa accepted, he even offered to put the title on the line, but you could tell there was still a bitter taste in his mouth after being misted last night. Evidently, he REALLY wants to do away with Busa to make up for being embarassed by him. Elimination Match: The Miracle Violence Connection (Steve Williams and Terry Gordy) beat Hayabusa & Tajiri (Hayabusa and Tajiri) 2 falls to 1: x Hayabusa beat S. Williams via the Star Dust Press in 0:05:35 x T. Gordy beat Tajiri via a roll up in 0:08:27 x T. Gordy beat Hayabusa via the Asiatic Spike in 0:12:20 Survivors: Terry Gordy Rating: **** 1/4 Meanwhilst, Kid Kash to challenge Jeff Hardy... Kid Kash, much like Pretty Perfect, is finally going to get his promised title shot after two months of waiting when he faces Jeff Hardy at Badd Blood. Kash issued a little warning during an interview saying that the cruiserweight title was destined to come back to him for a third time, then dared him to show up WITHOUT Muraco in his corner. Whether Jeff would actually take that challenge is debatable, but one hopes we can get a clean one on one match, unlike last night. Lance Storm vs Brian Pillman If Ken Shamrock had a hard time of things earlier, his tag partner might have had things even worse, despite only facing one man, as he went up against Brian Pillman, competing in his first match since he and Sean O'Haire lost the tag team titles. Storm wasn't sure exactly how to approach this one, and it would cost him. Despite a valiant effort, Pillman looked on top form here, but to the point of sheer unmercilessness. The look in Pillmans eyes suggested thoughts of total obliteration and though Lance put up a better fight than that, all it took was one vicious looking DDT to put Pillman as the victor. Brian Pillman pinned Lance Storm with the DDT in 0:07:22. Rating: *** Raven & Rhyno vs Billy Kidman & Steve Corino With Rhyno now heading to Badd Blood as the number one contender, he certainly has the backing of Raven (as well as most of the DWF). Raven came close last night to taking back the world title but first and foremost, he wants it taken off of Don Muraco. With Raven watching his back, Rhyno may just be the man to trip up Muraco, especially as we've seen the Gore take Muraco out before. With that in mind, Raven and Rhyno paired up today to take on the formidable duo of Billy Kidman and Steve Corino. First things first though, last nights ladder match in which Steve Corino retained his TV title was a brutal affair that saw Corino only just come out of it with his title in tact, but the question remained how much did he know of Billy Kidman going for the title - the answer was everything, as sure enough he'd seen it all. Kidman however denied everything to Corino, saying he never intended to actually take the belt but merely see if he could have taken it and won the match. Corino wasn't totally convinced but nonetheless he let it drop as we headed into our main event. Kidman and Corinos history as a team certainly helped them start off the quickest but truth be told, all four men were exhausted after last nights pay per view so the first sign of an advantage would be critical. As it happened, it was Raven, still hurting after last nights match with Don Muraco, who found himself down in the wrong corner first. Rhyno meanwhile wasn't exactly a tag wrestler by nature so strategy wasn't his strength but when he did tag in, he showed where his talents lie - plowing through the opposition. Rhyno was a man on a mission and with a little help from the groggy Raven, managed to rid Corino from the ring. Kidman briefly took down Rhyno with a chopblock and headed up for the Shooting Star Press, but Rhyno rolled out of the way, then lined him up for the Gore before flattening the former champ, to gain an easy three count. Rhyno looks on fire heading towards Badd Blood, and if he hits the Gore half as well as he did tonight, he might be the one to have that something in his arsenal to take down Don Muraco. Rhyno and Raven defeated Billy Kidman & Steve Corino (Billy Kidman and Steve Corino) when Rhyno pinned Kidman with the Gore in 0:12:29. Rating: *** 1/2 |
Snabbit888 | Posted on 01/15/06 at 19:15:25 I always forget you have the Villanos. Hehe. No surprises in the opening bout. Awww. I was really hoping that Bruno was going to use his "I'm a bitter old man" pull to wrestle Muraco for the World Title, but alas. :) Awww... poor Shamrock. What chance did he really have, especially since Heidenreich and Snitsky have super powers? Oooh... Pitbull #2 buying some time. I don't think La Resistance should have lost the titles to begin with, and now I have to wait longer for them to get them back? Boooooooo. And maybe a hiss too. Great tag team title match. You have a strong tag division up top. I'm very much looking forward to the World Tag Team Title match at Badd Blood. I'll be happy with either team winning. Kurt Angle is insane! I'm telling you, he should form an alliance with Pillman. :) Good tag match and a great showing by Terry Gordy and Hayabusa particularly. If Hayabusa can put up a good showing next week and survive, it could really push him up the card. Kid Kash is smart in challenging Jeff Hardy's bravado to come to the match at Badd Blood alone. Don't know if he will, but it's a good tactic. Pillman = future World champion Rhyno and Raven won the match as they should have, but man, Kidman and Corin oare falling apart. They were a dominant force not that long ago. They need to kick things in gear, stat. |
