Inagural Card!
Hurricane Frenzy
Bayfront Auditorium(Pensacola, Florida)[Editor's Note:  The venue was destroyed during Hurricane Ivan but let's throw that out the window and go with it :) ]
Paid Attendance:  1200

This card was billed as Hurricane Frenzy!  Both the Coastal Tag Team Titles and the Coastal Title will be up for grabs tonight!

Opening Match
SSW Coastal Tag Team Titles
"Rugged" Ron Garvin and Sgt. Slaughter
[vs]
"The Beast From the East" Bam Bam Bigelow and Brad Armstrong

The fans were a little disappointed at the start of this match as these were obviously make-shift teams being put out in front of them.  With no "true" tag teams we may be seeing a lot of this in SSW in the beginning stages.  Bigelow and Armstrong had really no chance from the get-go as it was an absolute beatdown by Ron Garvin and Sgt. Slaughter.  Garvin finished Armstrong off with the good ol' Garvin Stomp to win the titles.

Ron Garvin and Sgt. Slaughter defeated Bam Bam Bigelow and Brad Armstrong when R. Garvin pinned B. Armstrong after the Garvin Stomp in 2:04
Rating:  * 3/4
(Ron Garvin and Sgt. Slaughter won the SSW Coastal Tag Titles)

Although not what the fans were expecting the crowd did give a nice round of applause to Garvin and Slaughter as they left the ring celebrating.  An announcement came over the PA saying that a one-night only 16 man tournament for the SSW Coastal Title!

[Editor's Note:  I ran random brackets and got a few heel/heel and face/face match-ups, oh well]

Round 1
"Superstar" Billy Graham
[vs]
"The Enforcer" Arn Anderson

The Superstar came to the ring to a chorus of boos, showing off the world's largest arms and flexing with nearly every movement.  The man looks to be chiseled out of stone and he likes to let everyone know it.  By default Anderson was the face in this match-up and off we go.

Pissed off by Graham's taunting Double A attacked Billy before the bell and laid down an impressive offensive assault.  Amateur wrestling maneuvers by Anderson, trying to keep the strength and power of Graham grounded were short-lived however as the Superstar powered out.  Clotheslines were in abundance for both men until Graham stopped the momentum with an eye poke and mounted an offense of his own.

Graham worked over Anderson's neck while Arn looked to injure Billy's back, the action went back and forth until Billy locked on a full nelson to Arn, attacking the neck from before.  Anderson fought valiantly but had to submit to the sheer strength of Graham.

Billy Graham made Arn Anderson submit to a full nelson in 08:05.
Rating:  ** 1/2

Graham flexed after the match for atleast five minutes, relishing in his victory as the referee attended to the neck of Arn.

Round 1
Jack Brisco
[vs]
"Magnificent" Don Muraco

Both men were well-received by the fans.  A hand-shake before the match showed good sportsmanship by both competitors, the match was a little slow-paced at first.  The feeling out portion of the match lasted around five minutes before the action started, from that point forward Muraco totally outclassed Brisco.

Jack put up a fight towards the end but fell victim to a swinging neckbreaker then a nice powerslam from Muraco.

Don Muraco pinned Jack Brisco after a powerslam in 16:08.
Rating:  * 1/2

Muraco advances to face Billy Graham in the second round. After the match Muraco and Brisco hugged one another in appreciation to a good amount of fanfare.

Round 1
"King" Harley Race
[vs]
"Classy" Freddie Blassie

Another plodding match with the highlights being Blassie's great work getting the fans to hate him.  Boos were heavy on the Classy one and there was nearly no reaction for Harley Race who pulled out what some may think of a lucky win.

Harley Race pinned Freddie Blassie with the Piledriver in 16:08
Rating:  * 1/2

Race celebrated his first round victory to little reaction from the fans.

Round 1
Magnum T.A.
[vs]
Hulk Hogan

Hogan came out to a massive pop as per usual but not to be outdone the good-looking Magnum T.A. got a lot of cheers from the female contigent in the audience.

Dueling chants from the crowd as they seemed to be split in half for this match, one side cheering for Magnum and the other cheering for Hogan.  This continued throughout the match-up.  Decent back and forth action from the two, Magnum hitting a few impressive moves and Hogan resulting to his limited offense of punches and kicks.

T.A. was surprised as he tried whipping Hogan into the ropes, a reversal by Hulk brought Magnum back his way and Hogan hit a pretty swank clothesline for the victory.

Hulk Hogan pinned Magnum T.A. after a clothesline in 06:51.
Rating:  -1/2*

Hogan helped Magnum to his feet and raised T.A.'s hand after the match.  Magnum still looked a little stunned after the clothesline from before.

Round 1
Johnny Valentine
[vs]
Michael Wallstreet

What can be said about this match?  Valentine didn't play around and ended it quickly, under half a minute to be exact.

Johnny Valentine pinned Michael Wallstreet after an elbowsmash in 00:16.
Rating:  *

Round 1
Big John Studd
[vs]
Pedro Morales

The fans oohed and ahhed as Big John Studd came down to the ring with his patented stretcher in tow.  Known for putting some of his opponents in the hospital Studd is a definite monster.

Morales didn't look to be too intimidated as he made his way to ringside and the fans sensed we'd have a fight on our hands.

What a fight it was, Morales would not back down from Big John Studd.  Pedro fought and fought, being outpowered by Studd over and over again but kept getting up to the delight of the fans.

Solidly behind Morales they rooted him on but Studd had other plans. Working over Morales' back Studd finished him off with a crushing backbreaker for the win.

Big John Studd pinned Pedro Morales with the Backbreaker in 11:27.
Rating:  *

The fans cheered heavily for Morales after the match, Studd attempted to grab Pedro but he made it out just in time before any after-match festivities Studd had planned for him.

Round 1
"The Nature Boy" Ric Flair
[vs]
"Macho Man" Randy Savage

These two didn't disappoint as one would expect, great action between what some may say are the two best "wrestlers" SSW has to offer.  Flair did his usual back of tricks, rolling up and pulling the tights, eye pokes and even a low blow or two.

Savage wasn't to be outdone though, at one point during the match the two were brawling outside and Randy whipped Flair right into the ring post, busting Ric open.

A controversial finish to this match would "taint" the win by Flair as head referee Roberto Puerta counted what looked like a very fast three count when Flair locked on his figure-four.

Ric Flair pinned Randy Savage with the Figure-Four Leglock in 16:59.
Rating:  ***

Flair left the ring in a haste with Roberto Puerta in tow, not wanting to feel the wrath of a very enraged Macho man.

Round 1
The Ultimate Warrior
[vs]
"Mr. Florida" Ron Simmons

This match was terrible, Warrior came out with a wide look on his eyes, yelling to himself about all the little warriors out there.  Ron Simmons came to the ring dressed in his Florida State jersey, receiving a cheap pop from the crowd.

Slow-paced and sloppy work was mercifully ended when Simmons won by countout.  Warrior had slipped out of the ring and continued to talk to himself while walking to the back and being counted out.

Ron Simmons defeated Ultimate Warrior by countout in 15:59.
Rating:  -3/4*

ONTO ROUND 2!

Round 2
"Superstar" Billy Graham
[vs]
"Magnificent" Don Muraco

Graham came out to a chorus of boos once again, even louder than before.  Muraco got one of the louder pops of the night and the two men went at it.

Muraco actually took control of the match from the get-go, the fans cheering him along the way.  Chipping away at the Superstar worked for a while until he dropped his guard.  Graham took full advantage and went on to win with a powerslam.

Billy Graham pinned Don Muraco after a powerslam in 08:33.
Rating:  ** 1/2

Billy Graham flexed some more after the match and trods his way into the semi-finals.

Round 2
"King" Harley Race
[vs]
Hulk Hogan

Hogan dominated Race the entire match and finished him off with another clothesline, seems to be a big part of his arsenal in SSW.

Hulk Hogan pinned Harley Race after a clothesline in 07:40.
Rating:  * 3/4

Hogan celebrated with the fans on his way to the back, slapping loads of hands that had gathered at the guard rails.

Round 2
Johnny Valentine
[vs]
Big John Studd

After Valentine's early dismantling of Michael Wallstreet he looked to be exuding confidence on his way to the ring, then he hit a big dose of reality named Big John Studd.

Studd completely _OWNED_ Valentine, hardly letting The Hammer's father get any offense in, a merciless beating sent waves and waves of boos down upon Studd.

Finally, after nearly 13 minutes of whooping up on Valentine Studd ended it once again with a crunching backbreaker.

Big John Studd pinned Johnny Valentine with the Backbreaker in 12:48.
Rating:  * 1/2

Round 2
"Nature Boy" Ric Flair
[vs]
"Mr. Florida" Ron Simmons

Flair looked like he taught Ron Simmons a lesson or two in the ring, the fans didn't like the result at all but Flair masterfully worked over the larger Simmons' leg and beat another opponent with his Figure-Four Leglock.

Ric Flair pinned Ron Simmons with the Figure-Four Leglock in 07:31.

Rating:  ** 1/4

Simmons looked very angry after the match, almost sulking on his way to the back.  Flair advance to the semi-finals.

Semi-Finals
"Superstar" Billy Graham
[vs]
Hulk Hogan

In the battle of the largest arms in wrestling and maybe even the world this match had nearly everything you'd want.  The crowd was burning hot, booing Graham to no end and trying to will Hogan to victory.

The two traded power shots to begin the match, one hoping to use pure strength to defeat the other but neither was succesful.  Next up was brawling between Hogan and Graham, they fought along ringside throwing wild punches at one another definitely exciting the crowd into a near frenzy.

Back into the ring they went and Hogan came storming back, hitting his vicious clothesline that had already taken two victims down.  A near three count sent the fans into even more of hysteria.

Graham, not to be denied fought back and locked on his Bearhug.  Hogan looked to be in serious pain but wouldn't give up for a long while, the fans cheered Hulk on as the life seemed to escape from his body from the near vice-like grip the Superstar had on.

Hogan finally had to give up, as the ref called for the bell fans immediately begin throwing trash at Graham who just smiled and looked down at the defeated Hogan who was clutching at his back.

Billy Graham made Hulk Hogan submit to the Bearhug in 10:22.
Rating:  1/2*

Semi-Finals
Big John Studd
[vs]
"Nature Boy" Ric Flair

This match started out hot, the fans seemed to actually be in Flair's corner much to the surprise of many.  Ric nailed his chops on Studd and even clipped out the big man's knee which only seemed to anger Studd further.

Studd opened up the cut Flair received from Savage earlier with big roundhouse rights.  From that point on it looked as though all of Ric's energy was spent from his two previous matchups, Studd dominated and won with a bodyslam.

Big John Studd pinned Ric Flair after a bodyslam in 04:09.
Rating:  DUD

Studd stayed in the ring as Flair was rolled outside, out came Billy Graham to some of the most vicious booing I've ever heard and we had our main event finals match.

[Finals]:  Match for the vacant SSW Coastal Title
"Superstar" Billy Graham
[vs]
Big John Studd

Both men immediately went to brawling, nearly tearing each other apart with various kicks and punches.  Studd looked to get winded first, maybe from back to back matches but he wained pretty early on in this match.

Graham mounted an offense, showing his impressive strength with a bodyslam to Studd along with some work on the back of Big John.

Studd came back with a late flurry, trying to lift Graham up for the bodyslam he defeated Flair with but Superstar reversed with a small package for the surprise victory!

Billy Graham pinned Big John Studd after a small package  in 06:22.
Rating:  *
(Billy Graham won the SSW Coastal Title.)

Graham celebrated as a furious Big John Studd went from arguing with the ref over the count to trying to attack the Superstar.  Billy just laughed as officials came down to the ring and held Studd back.  We fade out with Graham holding up the Coastal Title as more trash is thrown his way from the fans.

Card Rating:  * 1/4

Tough TNM Tournament booking ending with your two main heels facing each other in the finals.

Not only that, but Graham gets a sneaky quick win with the small package. I bet Studd will want a rematch. Maybe a face run for Big John Studd?

Bummer for Bigelow. he needs a better partner than Brad Armstrong...
rebelins313Posted on 01/04/06 at 22:34:39

Yeah it sucks that Studd and Graham faced off the finals but it'll be alright, I'll figure out something.  I must say though, I was rooting for Graham to win it so I'm happy with that but with zany TNM who knows how long the Superstar will hold on to the title?

Thanks for the feedback Unright.

Graham was my choice as well. He will be a key player in a new fed I'm getting ready to launch. One night tournament are so exciting and I think this roster is better than TCW's... so I enjoyed this.

Just noticed this.. Hurricane Ivan happened in 2004.. With all the retired talent you're using, I was assuming this was a mid-80s fed.  I'd worry more about using venues that aren't build yet as opposed to those destroyed in the future..
rebelins313Posted on 01/07/06 at 04:16:55

Yeah, I'm trying to put it along the lines of just a fed with all these guys in it, even if it was mid-80s some of these guys would just be too old to even be effective at all really.  Oh well, it's all good.  :)
