DCWA Past Present Future: 04/27/05 from the DC Armory

The first two DCWA shows surpassed all expectations as to what pro wrestling in DC would be.  Every fan DCWA spoke to after the closing of the last show in March said that they would most certainly be returning for the April show.  We know that Kid Kash will be taking on Frankie Kazarian.  We also know that SUWA will be making his return with a partner to take on his Japanese rival KENTA and Tajiri.  But what else will there be?  Christopher Daniels has returned for a second match after being impressed at our first show in February. What else awaits us tonight as the DCWA showcases the past, the present, and the future?

Ahmed Johnson & D'Lo Brown vs. The Basham Brothers vs. The Rotten Brothers

For the third week in a row, Ahmed and D'Lo pump the crowd up with a quick, destructive squash of their opponents.  The Bashams attempted to take Ahmed out quickly, double-teaming him before the bell but it didn't last long as D'Lo and The Rottens dispatched of the two.  There was some messy brawling until D'Lo caught Ian in a Sky High, Ahmed hit Axl with a chair, and a frog splash ended the match.  Ahmed and D'Lo sure know how to start off a night!

Triangle Match
Ahmed Johnson and D'Lo Brown defeated The Rotten Brothers (Axl Rotten and Ian Rotten) and The Basham Brothers (Doug Basham and Danny Basham) when D'Lo pinned A. Rotten after a frog splash in 0:08:44.

Brian Pillman vs. Curt Hennig vs. Nick Mondo vs. Rob Van Dam

Everyone in this Four Corners Match is feeling the need to prove themselves here tonight.  No man in the match has won yet in the DCWA.  Pillman lost both in singles and tag team competition.  Hennig has not only lost, but been the subject of much mockery by Chris Candido.  Mondo lost at our first card and didn't even make it to the second card.  And RVD came out on the short end last month in the Round Robin Tournament, losing to both Art Barr and Kid Kash.

As soon as the bell rang, all four men were at each others throats and didn't let up one bit.  I know I say this a lot, but every man in the match knew the stigma that would be placed on them as the last man to win a match in the DCWA.  The first to fall was Nick Mondo, due to a facelock.  As popular as his garbage style may be, all the wrestling it took to beat Mondo was a simple front facelock.

Much of the rest of the match was RVD displaying his skills against both men.  He hit all his big spots and really got the crowd going, especially after pinning Curt Hennig with a small package when Hennig went for the Perfect Plex after a short comeback.  But in the end, it was Brian Pillman who got the win, surprising RVD and guaranteeing a future rematch, with his DDT.

Four Corners Match
Brian Pillman defeated Rob Van Dam, Curt Henning and Nick Mondo:
x RVD beat Mondo via a front facelock in 0:05:24
x RVD beat Hennig via a small package in 0:11:34
x Pillman beat RVD via the DDT in 0:13:01

Prior to the next match, Dean Malenko came to the ring with two young Japanese men.  No one expected Malenko to show up so there was a pretty big pop.  He introduced one of the young men as shoot fighter Naoyuki Taira and the other as shoot fighter Michiyoshi Ohara.  He proclaimed that, as one of wrestling's best shooters, he was bringing some friends from Japan to the DCWA.  Around now, Chris Candido came out and began to run down Malenko.  He said that the two fighters couldn't cut it in PRIDE so they were coming here.  Well, they wouldn't be cutting the mustard here either!  Malenko and Candido got into an argument which quickly ended up as an impromptu match between Taira and Candido.

Chris Candido vs. Naoyuki Taira

Taira had no chance.  Candido was in top form and was dead set on proving something to the newcomer.  After every big move, he took the time to yell at Malenko who was standing at ringside watching with Ohara.  With most wrestlers, this would be a mistake but with Taira, Candido has nothing to worry about.  The match went about seven minutes until Candido hit the Blonde Bomber, dropped a leg, and got the pin.

Chris Candido pinned Naoyuki Taira after a flying legdrop in 0:07:15.

KENTA & Tajiri vs. SUWA & Muhammad Yone

Two months ago, SUWA was a guest referee in KENTA & Tajiri's match against Jody Fleisch and Sonjay Dutt.  Mid-match, everything went haywire and SUWA ended up screwing KENTA and Tajiri out of the match.  SUWA has returned and he brought Yone, a partner of his from NOAH in Japan with him.

There were some very high expectations in this one and they were lived up to.  KENTA and SUWA went at each other the entire match.  Yone and Tajiri were seemingly inspired by their partner's blood feud and went at it with equally reckless abandon.  The end of the match had Tajiri and KENTA hitting their opponents with kicks and knees to the head when the bell rang.  Time limit draw.  Awesome match, you can be sure this one is just getting started.

SUWA and Muhammad Yone and KENTA and Tajiri battled to a draw in 0:15:00.

Kurasawa vs. Savio Vega vs. Ton Zenk

Two months ago, Savio Vega beat Tom Zenk.  Kurasawa was the unlikely winner in a three-way against Brian Pillman and Nick Mondo.  Last month, Tom Zenk beat Kurasawa.  This month, Savio Vega returns to D.C. to take on both men.  Will Zenk's hot match last month continue and become a streak?

Nope.  Vega is obviously the only one of the three men wrestling regularly outside of the DCWA and it showed.  He handled the two with ease and took Kurasawa out with a kick to the head in less than eight minutes.  Zenk and Kurasawa need to wrestle more than once a month if they expect to go anywhere in the DCWA.

Savio Vega defeated Kurasawa and Tom Zenk when Vega pinned Kurasawa after
a kick to the head in 0:07:33.

Dean Malenko and his students, Naoyuki Taira and Michiyoshi Ohara again came to the ring.  This time, Malenko began setting the two up in an exhibition fight to showcase their MMA skills for the fans in Washington D.C.  But when he rang the bell, Art Barr came out from the back with a microphone.

"Is this some sort of joke?  You call these two guys real fighters?  They look like two men who couldn't hack it in a barroom brawl, let alone in a ring!"  Similar to Candido, Barr lit into Malenko talking about how Malenko used to be a great wrestler but is shaming his name by being a part of this travesty.  He challenged Ohara to a match to prove his point and Ohara accepted.

Art Barr vs. Michiyoshi Ohara

As the match began, Ohara turned to talk to Malenko.  This was all the time Barr needed to sneak some brass knuckles onto his fist and take Ohara out.  He jaw jacked with Malenko for a few seconds before hitting an entirely unnecessary Frog Splash for the win.

Art Barr pinned Michiyoshi Ohara with the Frog Splash in 0:01:12.
Rating: * ¾

Dean Malenko's attempt to help some new wrestlers establish themselves doesn't seem to be going very well.  Art Barr ended Michiyoshi Ohara's hopes of becoming a wrestler tonight with his brass knuckled right hook.  Barr, along with Candido, won't be making Malenko's stay in the DCWA very pleasurable for the foreseeable future.

Frankie Kazarian vs. Kid Kash

Last month, Kid Kash beat both Rob Van Dam and Art Barr in the same night for the "Best Wrestler in the DCWA" bragging rights.  But as soon as he had the chance to start bragging, Frankie Kazarian came out and challenged Kid Kash to a match to prove himself.

Both cut promos backstage earlier in the day.  Kid Kash talked about the past two months and how he has dominated.  This month will be no different.  Kazarian said that past transgressions mean nothing. The future is NOW, the DCWA becomes a major name NOW, and Kazarian's rule begins NOW.

The match itself was great.  These are two great workers who pulled out all the stops, not in an attempt to impress the fans, but simply to beat the other man.  Both knew that although there was no title in the DCWA quite yet, this was a battle for one of the top spots in the DCWA.  A win here will garner a lot of respect backstage.  I wish I could say that the match was a classic battle between two men who had nothing but respect for the other.  And for most of the match, it seemed that way.  But in the end, Kid Kash was robbed.  Kazarian pulled something from his trunks when the two were tied up in the corner and nailed Kid Kash while the referee's back was turned.  He followed up with a fisherman's suplex for the pin.

Kazarian posed a lot and bragged about being the future.  Kid Kash had to be helped backstage by some officials.  He may be missing a tooth.  A lucky fan took home Kazarian's weapon.  Look for it on eBay.

Frankie Kazarian pinned Kid Kash after a fisherman suplex in 0:17:09.

Main Event
Christopher Daniels & Chris Sabin vs. Jody Fleisch & Sonjay Dutt

Two months ago, Christopher Daniels and Petey Williams had a TNA Exhibition Match right here in DCWA.  The two were called up last minute in a final effort to raise awareness locally for the show.  Well, it worked, drawing a good amount of fans.  And Daniels was impressed, not only by the crowd, but by the promotion, the wrestlers, and everyone backstage that he agreed to return once again.  Officials chose Chris Sabin as his partner because they believed he had the most to gain in a main event slot with Daniels.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:  I'm terrible at writing up an actual match.  So I'll keep it short.  Awesome, awesome match.  Daniels wanted to give the fans a treat to thank everyone in DCWA for their hospitality.  Sabin, Dutt, and Fleisch all knew the spotlight would be on them in this high profile match and certainly brought their A-game.  Non-stop action from bell-to-bell, starting with the entire Armory chanting for Daniels and ending with both Fleisch and Dutt locked in armbars tapping out.  Daniels and Sabin shook hands after the match.

Chris Sabin and Christopher Daniels defeated Jody Fleisch and Sonjay Dutt when
C. Sabin made Fleisch submit to an armbar submission in 0:23:11.

Three absolutely smashing cards in a row!  Dean Malenko has arrived with friends in tow.  They didn't fare well tonight but with experience, how will Naoyuki Taira stand up to the DCWA stars?  And who will finally shut up Chris Candido?

Chris Sabin sure got the rub tonight, tagging with Christopher Daniels in a spectacular main event.  And Frankie Kazarian's debut was just as exciting.  There isn't even a belt yet and so many men are already clamoring for the top spot here in the DCWA?  Who really is the best?  With faces new and old, each with their own agendas, what will happen next month?  I can't wait to find out!

Im a huge Candido fan, I also like Dean Malenko. This is a match that I would love to see, but Candido is no longer with us and Malenko has retired, but not in the DCWA. I am pumped up for this feud if it continues. Good Circuit so far.
