Pro Wrestling: Alpha (11.12.05) Crowning

JoshEnglemanPosted on 11/13/05 at 03:28:19

Sadai Shoguns (KENTA and Yoshihiro Tajiri) and Claudio Castagnoli defeated James Gibson, Nigel McGuinness and Shelton Benjamin when Tajiri pinned J. Gibson with the Brain Buster in 0:09:06.
Rating: *** 1/4

Edge, Christian and Batista defeated John Cena, Alex Shelley and Blaster Lashley when Batista pinned B. Lashley with the Batista Bomb in 0:13:22.
Rating: *** 1/4

[Alpha Gold Crown Tournament - 1st Round]:
Christopher Daniels pinned Paul London with the Last Rites in 0:12:46.
Rating: ** 3/4

A sub-par match between two excellent wrestlers in the first match of the Alpha Gold Crown Title Tournament. Daniels will go on to face the winner of the Homicide/Randy Orton match in the quarterfinals.

[Alpha Gold Crown Tournament - Round 1]:
Kurt Angle made Chris Benoit submit to the Ankle Lock in 0:18:13.
Rating: *** 1/2

Chris Benoit fought through two Ankle Locks earlier in the match, but in the end couldn't hold on any longer, giving the victory to Angle. Angle will face the winner of AJ Styles/Eddie Guerrero in what should be a legendary match.

[Alpha Gold Crowns Tournament - Quarterfinals]:
Sadai Shoguns (Hiroshi Tanahashi and Shinsuke Nakamura) defeated Skyfire & Johnson (Seth Skyfire and Mac Johnson) when Nakamura made M. Johnson submit to a standing cross armbreaker in 0:33:49.
Rating: **** 1/4

This match was WAY better and WAY longer than it had any right to be. The Sadai Shoguns antisipated a cakewalk in their quarterfinal matchup, but they were taken to the brink by their challengers. No doubt we will see a meeting between these four again.

[Alpha Gold Crown Tournament - 1st Round]:
American Dragon pinned Shawn Michaels after a backdrop driver in 0:12:05.
Rating: ** 3/4

The student bests the teacher in this match. Danielson will take on the Kenta Kobashi/Ric Flair match in the quarters.

[Alpha Gold Crown Tournament - 1st Round]:
John Bradshaw Layfield pinned Samoa Joe with the Clothesline From Hell in 0:19:53.
Rating: ** 1/4

In an absolutely AMAZING upset, the #16 seeded JBL takes down the #1 seed, Samoa Joe. Joe's stiff strikes were met with similar strikes from JBL and in the end Bradshaw did what it took to put the favorite out. JBL will now face the Austin Aries/Mike Quackenbush winner in the quarterfinals.

Card rating: ***

Interesting first card, and also interesting to see the roster and the pushes you're operating with.  Not a big fan of certain WWE talent, are you? :)  A stacked show though, with Dragon beating HBK and a Benoit/Angle clash.  Though JBL was the 16 and Joe the 1, I still don't know if I'd call it an upet.  Unless... are you running this circuit in a way so as to not acknowledge real life status at all?

Well, I guess you could say I'm trying to disregard real life. It's more of a combo of real life and my opinions. With Samoa Joe having a 100 push and JBL having an 80 push, it's basically as big of an upset as you could have in this tournament. In my mind, the tournament was looking at some combination of Joe/Styles/Kobashi/Daniels in the finals, but thats out now.  Daniels/Styles is my hope for the final, but since it's completely unbooked, I have no idea where it's going. Thanks for the feedback. Really appreciate it.

If Samoa Joe has a push of 100, he shouldn't lose matches at all.. so him losing to a 80 pushed JBL is a huge upset, game-wise.
