DWF 17/12/07 + voting open

91Posted on 10/29/05 at 22:34:01

At the outset of the show, Matt Hardy weilded his obvious influence to make
sure he was in the ring, with his entourage of Snitsky and Heidenreich
obviously, to gloat about the beating he gave Jody Fleisch. As if last nights
disgusting display which was nothing more than a glorified mugging wasn't bad
enough, Hardy having the bare faced cheek to act like he achieved anything in
victory was truly sickening. Suffice to say Jody Fleisch wasn't in attendance
last night, but one man who was was the Dynamite Kid. Nothing personal on
his behalf, but I guess from one Brit to another, he was here with a message
from Jody Fleisch - he'll be back.

As brief as that was, he had a more important message from Shane McMahon, the
rarely seen owner of the DWF (what must he be thinking of Matt Hardys recent
behaviour?). Shane, it seems, isn't thrilled about the recent bias of some of
Matt Hardys decision, and that the upcoming Clash of the Champions (Clash IX)
will see a DWF first in which every title will be on the line and the
challengers will be decided on a public vote.

Matt Hardy, it would seem, wasn't exactly thrilled at this - he wants total
control over everything. The last time he didn't saw Jody Fleisch book a show
that saw all of Matt Hardys plans thrown out of the window. There and then, he
told Dynamite Kid he was to go back to Shane McMahon NOW and deliver a
message - "You dumb son of a bitch". Dynamite noted he couldn't do that as he
was involved in a big six man tag match tonight and Shane was several hundred
miles away, which apparently Matt was aware of and told Dynamite if he didn't
leave the building now to go see Shane, he'd have security escort him out of
the building.

Rey Mysterio vs Mando Guerrero

Rey Mysterios run of wins continued today as he pasted off another Guerrero,
Mando. Rey had put Eddie down yesterday with his speed, as well as Eddie
getting too distracted. This time he didn't need any distractions to put Mando
down, outclassing him in all departments besides maybe 'stealing'. The 619 was
enough and as we found out with later announcements, things were about to get
better for Rey. *** 3/4

Psychoanalysis (c) vs La Resistance (world tag team titles)

Psychoanalysis put their tag team titles on the line in one of many title
matches for the evening. Their opponents were La Resistance as we finally saw the
two teams go at it without anyone else involved. La Resistance are the reigning
Intercontinental tag team champions, and their pre-match skit in which they
tried to gain the support of the Canadian crowd failed. Rene came dressed up
as a Canadian mountie while Sylvain wore a Quebec Nordiques shirt. Meanwhile
Psychoanalysis try and stay on the same page. Not that they argue or anything,
but Pillmans sadistic and unnecessarily over-violent style clearly clashes
with O'Haires sleek and powerful-yet-fair style and morals. OK, O'Haire still
plays the mind games, attacking La Resistances attempts at popularity with
different countries as being because they were rejected by their own country
to begin with.

As far as the match went, Pillman threatened to go overboard at times but kept
things well composed, while O'Haire was the driving force that held things
together long enough to put together a well constructed victory that saw them
finish Rene Dupree with a DDT from Pillman followed by the Seanton Bomb for the
win. A hint of resentment perhaps on Pillmans face that it was O'Haire who made
the final pin, but they're still the champions at least. Can it last? And as
for La Resistance, it's not been the best time for them in Canada, and will be
hoping to impress back in the States. ****

Hector Guerrero (c) vs Joey Matthews (cruiserweight title)

At some undefinted point in time, Hector Guerrero will have to face Kid Kash
following Kid Kash taking last nights cruiserweight battle royal. Kash looked
good and if Hector can hold the title long enough, he'll have his work cut
out. Tonight though, Joey Matthews was selected to have a crack at Hector and
he made good work of it. Christian York took his spot at ringside, whilst
Chavo Guerrero Classic evened the numbers out. Hector is adapt at cheating as
we know and used the ropes, pulled the hair, hooked the tights, you name it.

Chavo meanwhile would lie about anything - clocking York with a chair on the
outside, both Matthews and the ref wanted to know what had happened. Chavo
claimed the chair had been thrown by a fan, all the while Hector was picking
his moment. Grabbing Matthews, he hit the Butterfly Suplex and hooked the
tights for the pin. ** 1/2

"The Rock" Brad Armstrong (c) vs Dean Malenko (intercontinental title)

Brad Armstrong made his point last night by refusing the challenges of Rey
Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero. Tonight he met Dean Malenko in a contracted title
defense - Malenko didn't look in the best shape after the beating he took from
Pretty Perfect. Further more, the fans didn't know how to react to him. After
all, where did he stand now? He was definitely one of the "bad guys" before
Canadian Stampede but having had a tough year, he was left in limbo somewhat
and clearly has a lot of thinking to do. Brad Armstrong is SUPPOSED to be one
of the "bad guys" but his rollercoaster rise and undoubted charisma, even if
his act is entirely stolen from The Rock has gained him some support and with
Malenko getting a mixed reaction, Armstrong was left as the de-facto fan
favourite.

No evidence yet exists that says Armstrong is definitely going face, but he
lapped up the attention today and blitzed Dean Malenko in impressive fashion,
even after you consider the obvious advantage he had with Malenkos condition.
The Peoples Elbow finished things and he had himself an easy win. Matt Hardy
however had other ideas, coming out with a little message. See, The Rock calls
himself "The Peoples Champion" and with Matt Hardy having issues with those
very people who will be doing the booking for him at Clash of the Champions,
he made the decision that Armstrong, "The Rock", will indeed have to defend
his title next week against BOTH Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio. Brad didn't
look happy, but the unwavered confidence on his face shows he'll still relish
the challenge, even if he thinks neither of his challengers really deserve it. *** 1/2

Pretty Perfect appeared on the Kings Court today to explain their disgust at
last nights six man tag. Furious that still they aren't allowed a tag title
shot at Psychoanalysis they blamed Dean Malenko for the loss and said they'd
given him exactly what he deserved. Meanwhile, until the DWF relented and gave
them their shot, they were going to hold the company to random. What they mean
is anyones guess...

Scott Putski vs Larry Zbyszko

Larry Zbyszko is the sort of guy you just want to punch in the face for being
such a smug jerk. As if his witterings about past achievements wasn't annoying
enough, the fact he now has a one on one victory over Raven of all people just
plains infuriates anyone with taste. Now he's gone a step further with a farce
of a match against Scott Putski today. Larry knew he was a clear favourite and
nobody would have held it against him if he'd gone out there and scored the
comanding win we expected.

Instead he gloated about how easy he was going to win, how he could easily
polish off Putski in two minutes and how he'd beat Putski more than he'd beaten
Bruno Sammartino in 1980 (yep, THAT old chestnut...). So confident was Larry
that he claimed he could beat Putski with one arm tied behind his back, and
then actually called his manager Coach into the ring to do just that - tie one
arm behind his back. Coach tied it nice and tight, then Larry offered Putski
the chance to check it out to ensure it was indeed tied up tight... and then
used the opening to elbow Putski in the side of the head, knocking him almost
clean out.

Larry then would stomp away confidently at Putski, sure enough with one arm
tied behind his back. It would soon backfire as Larry missed a charge into the
corner, injuring his free arm and Putski began firing back with some hard shots
and a couple of clotheslines. Larry was in trouble so Coach distracted the
ref long enough to allow Larry to undo his bonds and plant Putski with the
shoulderbreaker. Larry got the pin, all the while hiding his supposedly tied
up arm from the ref, then getting Coach to pretend to undo the rope. Why this
required a distraction when the bonds weren't a legal requirement to begin with
is beyond me, but a win's a win at least, and Larry Zbyszkos win was well and
truly annoying.

It could have been worse, as Larry and Coach both stomped cheaply away at the
fallen Putski until John Cena ran in, weilding a baseball bat, sending Larry
and Coach scampering away. Cena clearly can't wait for another crack at Larry
and with the run Zbyszko is on, it could be a very interesting encounter. ** 3/4

Edge & Christian vs The Miracle Violence Connection

Edge and Christian gained one of the best receptions of the night with the
Canadian crowd firmly behind them as they took on the Miracle Violence
Connection. The MVC were out to spoil the party though as used their obvious
size advantage to wear down the Canadian pair, occassionally using outright
dirty tactics to keep control. It bought Hayabusa and Tajiri down to keep an
eye on them and the distraction worked. A tired Edge made the tag to his
brother and E&C had things going back their way. The Japanese duo pulled Gordy
out of the ring while Christian finished off Steve Williams for the big win. **** 1/4

Despite dissapointment for Edge at losing to Kurt Angle, the win tonight will
definitely lift his spirits. Meanwhile, Angle was still unhappy at having to
be in Canada. Talking to Matt Hardy backstage, he was thanking Hardy for not
making him wrestle tonight as he had no plans on giving Canadian fans another
chance to see "the greatest wrestler in the world in action". He also put in
a plug for the fans votes for Clash of the Champions. Matt pointed out that the
fans HATE Angle, but Angle assured Matt that if they made sure nobody outside
of the United States could vote, he'd be a shoe in. If they vote based on
wrestling talent, Angle might have a chance, if they vote based on personality,
Angle might as well not bother showing up.

Steve Corino (c) vs ??? (television title)

Steve Corino is obviously dissapointed at not winning the world title last
night, but had other ideas as to the actual outcome. He came out today with a
few words on what he really thought - he made it abruptly clear that it was
HIS move, the most dangerous move in the DWF the Old School Expulsion, that
won the match. Not only is this true, but with the effectiveness of how he
executes the neckbreaker-like move he's probably right in his description of
the move.

In any case, if it was HIS move that won the match to determine who held the
most important title in the DWF, he couldn't understand why Don Muraco should
be allowed to hold the title and why he is still being touted as the best in
the DWF. No matter, Corino has his own title, and he stated that now as far as
he is concerned, the television title must be the single most important title
in the DWF - after all, he's held his belt longer than anyone else has held
theirs so he really is the toughest champion to beat (for the record, though
he won the TV title the same night as Brad Armstrong won the IC title, Corino
won his a few hours earlier). With that in mind, he challenged anyone who has
not had a crack at him and the TV title yet to come down and have a go.

Steve Corino (c) vs Devon Storm (television title)

Answering the challenge was Devon Storm, a former Intercontinental champion in
the early days of the DWF. Devon gave it a good old go, not letting Corino get
any real advantage, but has complacency to blame this time out. With Corino
in trouble, Devon had him hooked up ready for the Thunderclap Brainbuster. A
moments hesitation followed and Corino slipped out behind Devon, spun around,
grabbed Devon and wringed his arm round, yanked Devon towards him, let Devon
move a few inches behind him, and delivered the Old School Expulsion in one
free flowing move. Words cannot describe the fluidity of how perfectly it was
executed. The pin was, as always, academic.

If Corino truly thinks his television title is now the most prestigious title
in the DWF, he could be champion for a long, long time to come. *** 3/4

Raven & Chris Jericho vs Don Muraco, Alex Wright & Ulf Hermann

After last night, Don Muraco is still the world heavyweight champion, and
whilst he didn't score the must decisive win in the world, there was no
question that he was the man last night, and there can be no faulting him
tonight either.

With Dynamite Kid out of the equation following his earlier exchange with Matt
Hardy, we were left with a handicap match main event - Don Muraco teaming with
Alex Wright again, along with Ulf Hermann, to take on Raven and Chris Jericho.
Dynamites removal left his teammates in an obvious predicament and it showed
as Muracos team used their strength in numbers to keep Jericho held in their
corner. They chose to restrict how much they used Ulf but when he was in, he
showed how dangerous he can be. That said, it was his mistake - misplacing a
clothesline that allowed Jericho to duck underneath and dropkick the giant
German - that allowed Jericho to tag Raven in.

Raven was a house on fire and he has his obvious beef with Don Muraco that has
yet to culminate with a match between the two since Muraco has won the title.
Muraco seemed more prepared to square up to him now, with the back up, but it
wasn't plain sailing as Raven took it to everyone he could. Muraco, being
Muraco, was able to floor Raven after Raven had Alex Wright worked over in the
corner, but the damage was done and a rejuvinated Jericho tagged back in to
continue the momentum. With all five men now in, it took a cheap move by Jeff
Hardy, manager on Don Muraco, on the outside to swing the tide back as he
tripped Raven who was then bundled out of the ring by Muraco. Jericho meanwhile
nailed Alex Wright with the Asai Moonsault which got a close two, and was
just applying the Lion Tamer, when Muraco came over and picked him up before
drilling him with a big powerslam. One Tombstone later and Muraco proved with
comparitive ease that he can definitely beat Chris Jericho with his own move.

With that, one wonders where Muracos next challenge will come from - if the
public are choosing, there's the obvious fear it could be someone he doesn't
want, but then again who knows what Muraco will pull, and with him being so
dominant it could be irrelevant at the end of the day. ** 3/4
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So as I eluded to a few months back before my, *ahem*, extended break, I was contemplating a "Taboo Tuesday" style card where you - THE FANS (God, that felt cheap) pick the matches. Now unless anyone else has done this in my absence, I think this is a first so that's got to be good for some kudos points. Nowwww I really need at least three votes (and ideally more than five) to justify it so if I never got those votes, I'll have left myself in limbo. Whoops.

Anyway, PM us your votes (because closed door voting is EXTREME baby), and there'll be a couple more shows between now and then where I'll gratuitously copy and paste this bit again. And the options are below. Everyone is denoted with an F, H or N to denote their allignment. If you need to know what those letters stand for, you can reformat your hard drive to find out. And yes, I know some people are listed more than once, that's deliberate.

Yay!  DWF's Taboo Tuesday-esque event!  *books*

Mysterio beats another Guerrero.  Not a lot to say other than it wasn't unexpected.

Psychoanalysis with a good win over the *ugh) IC Tag champs.  With the way this storyline has played out, it can't be too long before O'Haire and Pillman break up.  You've done a good job of making it not obvious who is going to dethrone them as champs though.  I thought it was going to be Robert Lazyeye and Ricky Mullet, but I was incorrect.

I don't really like Hector Guerrero as Cruiserweight champ, but liked the way he went over tonight.  Hoping Kid Kash dethrones him.

Looking much forward to Armstrong vs. Rey vs. Eddie next week.  I don't anticipate Brad losing, but I wouldn't be altogether surprised if Mysterio walked away the champion.

Ha ha... Larry's win was well and truly annoying.  That rules.  He distracted the ref to untie the rope when it wasn't legally binding anyway... yay 91.

Good win for E&C, though I don't like them needing Tajiri and Hayabusa to do so.

Kurt Angle!  Yay!

I like Corino trying to put the TV Title on a higher level.  That's important with tertiary titles, making sure they don't come off as unimportant.  Corino's been a great champion.

Muraco's a freakin' beast.

MY VOTES!

Dynamite Kid for World Title
Mysterio for IC Title
Edge and Christian for tag titles
Low-Ki for Cruiserweight Title
Cena for TV Title
Triple Threat Match - Kidman vs. Raven vs. RVD

Pillman and O'Haire losing the straps is all planned out - as far as who they lose them too... it depends right now. I've got one team in mind (and ironically somebody did vote for them - bear in mind a couple of people PM'ed me their votes, like you were supposed to  ;) ) but no guarentees yet. I will say this mind you - I guarentee AT LEAST one title change at Clash, since I'm that sort of person.

As far as the IC tag straps go... tough. ;D To be honest, unlike the TV title that you mentioned as being a tertiary belt that needs to come off as important, the IC tag belts are more there to keep teams warm while the spots for taking the main tag titles isn't yet open - a prop so to speak. So yeah, they aren't as important as other belts, but because of the large quantities of teams I have (WWE take note...), I wanted something to ensure enough love goes round them all to a degree.

And the threat of DWF limbo is at least past as I at least have the minimum I said I'd need to justify the Taboo Tuesday rip-off deal, though since most of them are tied right now (I think only two matches have clear leaders), the more the merrier - should there be draws, I'll just use "my vote" as a tiebreaker to pick who I want to see, IE whoever will work best for my storylines.

Yay.
