AWA's Action Zone - Oct. 19, 2005

Murphy42782Posted on 10/17/05 at 11:06:38

Pyro goes off as The Action Zone's theme song hits and the fans are going bananas. A few brief clips of some of the stars are shown from previous action in their careers, such as Benoit winning a heavyweight title in a certain CT-Based company. The mostly sold out crowd inside the AWA Arena in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina looks on in anticipation. As the lights come on and the music stops a well dressed William Regal makes his way out from the back.

Regal: Hello and Welcome to the first ever edition of the Action Wrestling Alliance's Action Zone! (Crowd Cheers) And the esteemed Board of Directors has chosen me, Sir William Regal, as THE man in charge, I am your new AWA General Manager (The Crowd Boos this decision by the BoD) Ahh, Just as I thought another undeserving bunch of nobodies from just some redneck town. (Crowd hits with an ear-thumping boo) Well I've given you enough of my time. The first match in the history of the AWA will be "Classic" Colt Cabana against "The Crippler" Chris Benoit. (The Crowd cheers this announcement)

"The Crippler" Chris Benoit vs. "Classic" Colt Cabana

This was a good technical match due to Benoit's presence. Cabana did a good job keeping pace with Benoit and the match went back and forth. Cabana caught Benoit with a Colt 45, but failed to get the 3. This drove Cabana nuts as he tossed the official out of the ring and went back on the attack, this brief lapse in judgment allowed Benoit to catch him in the Crippler Crossface, as the ref re-entered the ring he DQ'ed Cabana.

Chris Benoit defeated Colt Cabana by disqualification in 0:12:58.

As we returned from the commercial break a familiar sound of "Smoke on The Water" by Deep Purple struck and out walked "The Franchise" Shane Douglas, Chris Candido, Tammy Lynn Sytch, Lance Storm, and Dawn Marie. The crowd boos this ensemble of talent unmercilessly

Douglas: That's right "THE FRANCHISE" is here in the AWA. (Crowd continues to Boo) I have come to carry this little promotion on my back like I have for so many other fledging promotions in the past, I carried WCW before that spineless Ted Turner sold out, and as you all know I carried that worthless Paul Heyman and ECW into the spotlight without the help of anyone other than these two men. And I will carry....

This statement brought on the sounds of Alice in Chains "Man In The Box" and Tommy Dreamer...

Dreamer: Did I hear you say that it was you three, and only you three that carried ECW?

Triple Threat stands in the ring nodding and taking that claim for truth

Dreamer: I have to disagree with that, YOU didn't carry ECW, ECW Carried YOU! All the wrestlers, announcers, and most importantly THE FANS carried ECW (Crowd goes nuts) Ya Know Shane, You've always thought that you were bigger than the sport, But you're not. As a matter of fact...

With this Tommy Dreamer and his singapore cane slid under the bottom rope and began to clear house until the numbers became too much and Triple Threat laid waste to Dreamer. Douglas grabbed a mic and told Dreamer to show up at the main event and he'd show him why they call him "The Franchise"

The Eliminators (John Kronus and Perry Saturn) and The Amazing Red vs. MNM (Joey Mercury and Johnny Nitro) and Doug Basham

This match was slightly better than the opening match and it showcased some of the talent here in the AWA in six-man tag action. Action was fast and furious as Mercury and Basham double teamed Kronus on the outside Red leaped onto the crowd with a suicide dive. Inside the ring, however, Nitro caught Saturn in a Fujiwara Arm Bar and forced the tap out

"Mr. Wrestling" Nick Dinsmore vs. Randy Orton

This was a battle of The Artist formerly known as Eugene and The Legend Killer. Dinsmore and Orton battled back and forth, but Dinsmore showed why he is "Mr. Wrestling" as he got the upperhand. He connected on a variety of suplexes and armbars, almost pounding Orton into submission several times. Orton as usual tried to use underhanded tactics to gain the advantage, but Dinsmore was far to clever for that and looked to be on his way to certain victory when he missed a big clothesline and was caught offguard with a big RKO for the big win for the second generation star.

Randy Orton pinned Nick Dinsmore with the RKO in 0:04:56.

The World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) vs. Triple Threat (Chris Candido and Lance Storm) w/ Tammy Lynn Sytch and Dawn Marie

Triple Threat looked to prove the brash comments by Shane Douglas correct and kick off their AWA careers with a bang against the reunited team of Haas and Benjamin who were teaming for the first time since the WWE split their successful pairing up. Haas and Benjamin didn't seem to get on the same page in this one, meanwhile Candido and Storm looked to be clicking on all cylinders. Despite all this The WGTT seemed to be right in the thick of it. Dawn and Tammy were beside themselves as several fast exchanges had Triple Threat reeling. Dawn distracted the ref as Tammy tossed Candido her purse. He grabbed a can of mase and sprayed Benjamin in the eyes. As Benjamin stumbled around and just tossed punches he caught Haas with a left hand and the girls headed for the hills. The ref turned to see Candido clothesline Bejamin and himself over the top rope and Storm hit a Cradle Piledriver on Haas for the 3

AWA Television Title Elimination 4-Corners Match
Jerry Lynn vs. Rob Van Dam vs. John Bradshaw Layfield vs. Rob Conway

This was the best match of the night and it should be with the very first AWA Title on the line. Jerry Lynn was a house of fire getting involved early and often. His momentum was stopped by Conway and JBL teaming up against him. This alliance eventually imploded and the four way battle was on once again. Lynn scored a pinfall on RVD 12 minutes in and eventually on Conway. It was JBL that came out on top though. He walked away from a grueling 35 minute bout with the AWA Television Title.

No-Time-Limit-Four Corners Match for the vacant AWA Television Title:
John Bradshaw Layfield defeated Jerry Lynn, Rob Conway and Rob Van Dam:
x J. Lynn beat RVD via a Northern Lights suplex in 0:11:56
x J. Lynn beat R. Conway via the Cradle Piledriver in 0:30:31
x JBL beat J. Lynn via the Clothesline From Hell in 0:35:41

THE MAIN EVENT
"The Innovator of Violence" Tommy Dreamer vs. "The Franchise" Shane Douglas w/ Chris Candido

The jampacked crowd was buzzing with anticipation all night for this one. Dreamer was all by himself making a stand against Douglas and Triple Threat. Dreamer and Douglas gave the fans everything they wanted there was extreme violence and even some bloodshed as neither of these men is known as a "Mat-Technician". Candido avoided interjecting himself into the fray and showed great restraint. Douglas eventually hit The Franchiser and picked up the victory. Douglas and Candido then destroyed Dreamer with a Belly-to-Belly Suplex and a Blonde Bombshell. Then Douglas grabbed Dreamer's singapore cane and Candido held Dreamer up as Shane blasted him with 3 vicious shots. The show went off the air as Candido and Douglas stood over a devastated Tommy Dreamer and the crowd throw garbage in the ring.

Shane Douglas pinned Tommy Dreamer with the Franchiser in 0:18:51.

Ooooo Regal in charge, I like.

Sucky ending to what could of been a great match. Another sign of when "unbooking" goes bad lol. If I was you I would take all DQs off unless its outside interference. I learned that after every match with ppl who had a manager ended in DQ.

Dreamer Douglas main event. Nice, this seems like a very alternative wrestling federation

Red and the Eliminators lol , I will not say a thing. MNM and Doug Basham. I liked the idea...but the extramen are strange. I need to see where you are going with them.

An OVW type match here...Yay Orton wins.

This is the best booked match tonight. WGTT vs. Candido and Storm. TT pull out the victory, nice. This would be a nice fued for the Tag straps.

uhhh JBL....let's see where you go with this.

Cool main event. I see Shane Douglas is you main Heel , nice choice. His character is easy to work with. The Triple Threat looks to be a real threat in AWA.

Overall the show was ok. Your talent pool is questionable but you work with who you have. Can't wait to see where you go with this circuit.
