We now take you to these pre-recorded comments:

Chris Benoit:  "Tonight, I face someone from within the other locker room.  Just who it is, I don't know.  But you know after the last few weeks, I have a LOT of pent up hostility and I am ready to take it out on someone.  And tonight, I fear for the safety of my opponent because when I walk out into the arena, I will be the most rabid animal you have EVER witnessed in action."

Chris Jericho (standing by a pay phone just outside the locker room):  "Greg Gagne, I know your father sent you here to scout the talent in Calgary.  And I know that if I beat you tonight, I'll be offered a contract for the AWA.  And I know that when it's all said and done, I'll walk out with my hand raised and a contract that let's me work both AWA shows in St. Paul and in Winnepeg, while still being active here in Calgary.  So Gagne, when Chris Jericho answers the call tonight, you better be ready, baby."

Bret Hart (standing holding the Universal Title in front of him looking at it):  "John Kronus, tonight, it's you and I.  The final showdown.  One of us walks out the champion and with the title.  No more of you being the champ and me holding the belt.  No more mystery men stealing the belt from either of us.  And no more John Kronus in Calgary after tonight!"

John Kronus:  "Bret Hart, when I got the "call", I couldn't believe who it was.  And now that we will meet later tonight for the final showdown, you may just find out who made that call.  It wasn't Vince McMahon, Bret, which means you beat up an innocent man last week.  How's THAT going to weigh on your conscience Hitman?  Oh that's right, Mr. Always Right Even When Your Wrong, you beat Vince up cause you knew he was guilty of something.  Well tonight hitman, bring your Sharpshooter, bring your gimp brother that's been on the sidelines for over a month, bring Helen and Stu and sit them at ringside, because when I am through with you tonight, it will be the last time they see their son the way they remembered him before the match."

What on earth would posess anyone to f**k with Chris Benoit!!  Jericho and Bret Hart should be a helluva world title feud. I have been reading your stuff for a while, I have always liked how your shows feel a bit old school, and how well your feds flow.
Psymin1Posted on 09/01/05 at 23:19:13

Well Rick, you didnt dissapoint.  Another great card!  And like Teddy said, Jericho/Hart should be an awesome main event fued.  I loved seeing Storm and Horner retain, as they are one of my favorite TNM Tag teams of all time right now.  And Benoit is back in full "wolverine" style-which being a University of Michigan fan, I love.  Also, can't wait to see how the Storm/Slater situation goes as the booking should be very interesting for Storm for the next 90 days.  Again, great card, and cant wait till EP 16.

Well... it was Vince McMahon that apparently thought that he would try to screw with Benoit after being unsuccessful in recent weeks with Bret Hart.  And once again Vinny Mac failed.  And yes Jericho vs Hart should be a great feud.  Thanks for the feedback.  And yes they are meant to have the old school feel you mentioned, hence the pre-recorded WWF Superstars/Challenge style segment that I began doing on every card.  Plus it has REALLY helped to develop the characters within WatA, IMO.

I think I acheived the effect I was going for.  I mean who'da thunk that it was Chris Jericho as the mystery man all along (other than EricCotD, ya rat).  Jericho vs Bret should be huge, if I build it correctly.  Lance Storm and Tim Horner just seem to be two of the more underrated journeymen of the 80s and 90s, and teaming them in Calgary just seemed to be natural after their best of 7 series where they developed a great respect for each other.  Benoit was saddled with about a lame a gimmick as I could give him, yet he wore the Tag Team Titles twice with Sgt. Slaughter.  Eventually, he had enough, and now he's back as he should be as the Wolverine.  Slater being a "student of the game" and respectful toward the Hart family, will have a really fun time booking Devon Storm's matches for the next 90 days while maintaining his own Dungeon Title.  And I can't wait until Ep 16 either.

This circuit is taking on a life of it's own at this point... no rules set, no guidelines, just some fun old school style feuds, and it really seems to be clicking rather well.  Let's not forget that I have the undercard of big thugs as well in the form of Anvil, Palumbo, and the Dirty White Boy.  Granted they don't get great match ratings, but every circuit needs a few muscleheads to keep everyone in check.

I'm curious, other than Eric, who did you all think would be the mystery man prior to the reveal on this card?
ZedjaPosted on 09/02/05 at 08:28:19

Vince McMahon.

I mean anyone could be a stand-in when Bret called him out...

My second choice was Shawn Michaels..
Psymin1Posted on 09/02/05 at 14:17:54

I really had no idea, which, I guess, is the point of having a mystery wrestler. I guess I was kinda figuring it was going to be like Dusty Rhodes or Ric Flair or someone along those lines; never guessed it would be Jericho. And yeah, I agree with you about you having a strong midcard in Palumbo/Neidhart/DWB. It truly is a great circuit, Rick. I hope we get to see EP 100 someday.
