Taboo Tuesday 2005

rptDX316Posted on 08/12/05 at 00:23:30

Hi Folks,

While I haven't spent as much time with my WWE fed as I'd like to, I've been back on it recently. The time has come for my Taboo Tuesday card, and I'd like to invite you guys to help me out with the polling for the matches.  The matches and choices are listed below, along with some backstory that might help you in making a decision.

I suppose 72 hours will be long enough to get all the votes that I'm going to get, so we'll set that as the time limit.  And now, I declare the polls open!

Taboo Tuesday 2005

The Commissioners Collide
Shane McMahon vs Terry Funk

Ever since Shane McMahon got rid of the nWo, his power went to his head.  To combat this, Roddy Piper was brought in to act as co-commissioner, but was soon forced out by Evolution.  Terry Funk came in to replace him, but soon butted heads with Shane O Mac.  The two fought at Unforgiven in a Street Fight, with McMahon getting the surprise victory.  Tensions never eased, and the two will clash again at Taboo Tuesday.

It's your choice of stipulation for the match between the following:

- Loser must fight the opponent of the winner's choosing
- Winner gets free reign to book PPV main events for the rest of the year
- Loser must resign as co-commissioner

Val Venis vs Edge

Val and Edge were tag team partners, and even former champions, when Edge suddenly and inexplicably turned on Val.  Edge made it clear that he wants nothing to do with Venis, and doesn't even want to fight him.  He claims that he has moved on, and is certainly making good progress, pinning WWE Champion Chris Benoit in a tag match on Smackdown recently.  But Val holds the cards, and a victory over Edge as well.  It seems there's no escape for the man from Toronto, or is there?

Again, you choose the stipulations:

- Cage Match
- Dumpster Match
- First Blood Match

Legend Killer Challenge
Randy Orton vs Selected Opponent

Orton put out the challenge to any legends who wanted to step up to the plate to challenge him.  Four names came back, and you get to choose your pick from the following:

- The Rock
- Hulk Hogan
- Bret Hart
- Vince McMahon

Rock and Orton have clashed recently, with Orton coming out on top.  Hogan and Orton were former stable mates in the nWo, but never squared off.  Bret Hart has also never had the chance to face Orton, but would relish the opportunity to make him tap to the Sharpshooter.  And then there's Vinny Mac, who had vowed to stay off camera in WWE since restarting the entire company back in 2004.  Only your vote can bring him back for one night only to see if he can shut the mouth of the Legend Killer.

Tag Team Titles
Undertaker & Kane vs Selected Opponents

Undertaker and Kane won the titles just a few days ago at No Mercy, destroying the then-champs AJ Styles and Raven in less than a minute.  Who can stand up to their challenge at Taboo Tuesday?

- AJ Styles & Raven
- The Dudley Boys
- The Hardy Boyz
- WWE Title Ballot Losers

Cruiserweight Title
Tajiri vs Selected Opponent

Tajiri won the title in controversial fashion at No Mercy.  He was scheduled to face the Champion, Rey Mysterio, but Mysterio was unable to make it to the arena.  He was replaced in the match by Christopher Daniels, but the title remained on the line, Mysterio seemingly stripped of the gold.  Tajiri won the match, and won the title.  Rey Rey, and his partner in crime Billy Kidman, blamed the loss of the title on their manager, Steve Austin, and proceeded to beat down the Rattlesnake on Raw.  But will he get picked for a rematch, or will the shot go to another contender?

Choose from one of the following:

- Rey Mysterio
- Christopher Daniels
- Brian Kendrick
- Billy Kidman
- Spike Dudley

Intercontinental Title
Masahiro Chono vs Selected Opponent

If there weren't enough controversial title changes at No Mercy, here's another one.  Chono won the belt in a triangle match against JBL and the then-champ, Cactus Jack.  Chono pinned Cactus, but the deciding fall over JBL was a disqualification.  JBL argues that he was never pinned for the title, Cactus argues that in the event of a DQ, the title should revert to him.  Then, you add into the equation three other WWE superstars that earned a spot on the ballot at No Mercy.  Charlie Haas defeated Shelton Benjamin, whom Shane McMahon forced him to fight, for one spot, Goldust won a 20-Man Battle Royal for another, and the final spot was taken by John Cena, who beat Ric Flair to earn his place.

You choose the challenger:

- JBL
- Cactus Jack
- Charlie Haas
- Goldust
- John Cena

WWE Title
Chris Benoit vs Selected Opponent

This is the big one, with three men vying for a shot at Benoit, these being Triple H, Batista and Christian.  We start with Triple H, who accepted his spot on the ballot on one condition, this being that he could have a title shot any time that he wanted before the end of year, if he wasn't chosen for the match at Taboo Tuesday.  Helmsley believed that the fans would not vote for him, and so demanded the guaranteed shot as an insurance policy.

Christian was the number 1 contender to Benoit at No Mercy.  While he lost the match to the Crossface, this was due to passing out, and not tapping out.  The decision to elevate Christian to number 1 contender did not sit well with Triple H, and the two have had a number of run-ins with one another in recent weeks.  Should Christian get the nod again at Taboo Tuesday, these two may well butt heads again.  Of course, there's always the chance that they may have to team together, should this and other votes swing certain ways.

The final challenger is Batista, who certainly earned his spot on the ballot.  Leading up to No Mercy, a tournament was held to determine who would take the final spot on the ballot.  This culminated in the final at No Mercy, between Evolution's Animal, Batista, and a resurgent Stone Cold Steve Austin.  Batista had swept aside The Big Show and Ken Shamrock in previous rounds, while Austin had got past Kane and Shawn Michaels.  In the end, Batista proved too much for Austin, and put him down to win the match and earn his spot on the ballot.  But would he be too much for Benoit?

It's your choice as to who is the number 1 contender:

- Triple H
- Christian
- Batista
