GWA Ground Zero - 08/06/05 (WrestleRave hype)

AzraelPosted on 08/10/05 at 05:27:25

[Dark Match]:
Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Elix Skipper battled to a double countout in 0:09:12.
Rating: ** 1/4

CIMA vs. Quiet Storm

This feud began on the 7/2 show. As Quiet Storm had a match with Eddie Guerrero, he did not team with Kanyon, and thus Kanyon issued an open challenge to anyone (except Taz) in the GWA for a singles match. That offer was accepted by CIMA. CIMA proceeded to destroy Kanyon and pinned him. After the show, Kanyon was talking to himself as he left the arena, where he was confronted by CIMA. CIMA beat him up again and hurt him to the point where he decided to just quit the GWA. Quiet Storm was understandably annoyed by this and attacked CIMA the next week after CIMA's match with Matt Hardy. CIMA got his revenge on the 16th as he walked down the aisle, distracting Quiet Storm in his match against Spanky, which he eventually lost. CIMA laid not only Quiet Storm laying after a Mad Splash, but also devastated Trinity with a power bomb. Trinity later demanded that Quiet Storm face CIMA and Tully Blanchard made the match for WrestleRave. Last week, Quiet Storm teamed with Tajiri, with whom he has formed a mutual respect against CIMA and Tony Mamaluke, who CIMA dragged into the match. Quiet Storm pinned Mamaluke to take the match, but CIMA just walked away. CIMA has been on quite a streak lately, but Quiet Storm has yet to back down from a fight. Who will come out on top tomorrow?

AJ Styles and Christian vs. The SAT vs. The Young Lions

This match is made largely to help clear up the tag team division, where it seems like there are a number of top teams. Styles and Christian won the #1 contendership to the Tag Team Titles on 5/31, but didn't use their title shot until 7/2, where they lost when Benoit rolled Styles up for three after a miscommunication. The Young Lions have been a thorn in their side since the beginning of the GWA, and the two teams have feuded off and on. The SAT debuted on 7/9, defeating Los Guerreros, which ended leading to the dissolution of that team. The SAT lost a hard fought contest to the Young Lions on 7/23, but remain a strong component of the division. The winners of this match will certainly put themselves in line for a shot at the Tag Team Titles.

Now it's time for the first match of the night, so let's go to the ring.

("Bem, Bem, Maria" by the Gipsy Kings plays as El Generico walks to the entryway. He yells "Ole!" and then walks down the aisle, slapping hands with the fans as he goes. He debuted last week on Anarchy, teaming with Matt Hardy but losing a very good match against Mexico's Most Wanted. "Destiny is Dead" by Anathema then plays as Tajiri walks out. He bows to the crowd, then walks down the aisle. He steps through the ropes and scans the crowd as the bell rings.)

[El Generico vs. Tajiri]

Tajiri starts to lock up, but Generico backs up. He points at the ceiling and yells "Ole!" causing Tajiri to look around, wondering what Generico was pointing at. Generico runs and hits Tajiri with a forearm, then whips him into the ropes, bringing him down with an armdrag. He applies an armbar, but Tajiri gets to his feet and reaches the ropes. Generico breaks and Tajiri hits him with a slap to the chest, then whips him into the ropes. He lowers his head, but Generico kicks him in the face and yells "Ole!" Tajiri sweeps Generico and brings him up to a seated position, then hits him with a hard soccer kick. Tajiri hits a couple more soccer kicks, then points to the ceiling as Generico rolls on the mat. He brings Generico up and hits him with a headbutt to stagger him, then steps back and pops him with a savate kick. A cover gets a near fall. Tajiri brings Generico and whips him into the ropes. He throws a spin kick, but Generico ducks underneath. Generico comes back with a somersault dropkick to send Tajiri down hard. He makes a cover, but Tajiri kicks out at two. Generico lifts Tajiri up and slams him to the mat, then jumps up and hits a split-legged moonsault. The ref counts, but Tajiri gets his foot on the rope at two. Generico brings Tajiri up and sits on the turnbuckle. He yells "Ole!" again and goes for a tornado DDT, but Tajiri throws him off. Generico lands on his stomach and slowly stands up. Tajiri hits him with a few kicks to the thigh, then brings him to his knees with a thrust kick to the head. He then measures him and hits the Buzzsaw Kick to knock him out. He covers for three.

Tajiri pinned El Generico with the Buzzsaw Kick in 0:07:38.
Rating: *** 1/4

(Tajiri smiles as he leaves the ring. Generico doesn't do much as he's still unconscious.)

Christopher Daniels vs. Taz

These two met for the first time in the six-man tag match on 7/2. They brawled at ringside for a good portion of the match, but Low Ki broke tht up after the match and led Daniels to the back. On 7/23, Daniels said he had been shown the man that he must destroy for his salvation. And later that night, he revealed that man to be Taz as he cost him his match against CIMA. After a vicious beatdown, Daniels challenged him to a match at WrestleRave. Taz wanted revenge and challenged Elix Skipper to a match the next week to show that none of Triple X could save him from being choked out. Sure enough, despite Daniels' best efforts, Taz put Skipper in the Tazmission and got the tapout victory. Taz has shown himself to be a monster thus far in the GWA, but Daniels is clearly a man on a mission. Will he be able to put Taz away or will Taz choke him out?

Edge vs. Dynasty Member

Edge's problems with the Dynasty truly began at the 7/16 battle royal, in which the winner got a title shot. AJ Styles, Chris Jericho, and Christian decided to work together to ensure that one of them got the title shot. However, that didn't matter as Edge threw out Styles and Jericho, while Chris Benoit eliminated Christian. The three men took exception to Edge's actions in particular and blindsided him the next week during his match with Elix Skipper. Jericho revealed that they had decided to formally create an alliance and named it the Dynasty. He also said that he had already gotten a match approved for WrestleRave: Edge vs. the newest member of the Dynasty. One has to wonder why Commissioner Blanchard agreed to this. Either way, Edge remained unflappable, defeating Chavo Guerrero Jr. last week to retain the title and then promising to retain the belt at WrestleRave. But he has no time to prepare for his opponent, while his opponent has all the time in the world. In addition, the Dynasty will likely be at ringside. Things don't look good for Edge. Will he be able to overcome the odds or will the Dynasty take home a title?

The Amazing Red vs. Low Ki vs. Rey Misterio Jr.

Red won the Cruiserweight Title at Bloody Summer by outlasting Christian York (the former champion), Low Ki and Tajiri in a four corners match. Even though he was pinned, Low Ki was named the #1 contender for the title as he was pinned following a savate kick from Tajiri, Christian York's Moonsault and Red's Infra Red. Red and Misterio started talking about a dream match between the two of them for the title, which Low Ki took offense to. As he was the #1 contender, and as he had pinned Misterio to win the six-man tag match on 7/2, he decided to challenge Misterio to a series of 5 matches, with the winner facing Red at WrestleRave. Misterio agreed and Red agreed as well after thinking about it. Low Ki took the first match, pinning Misterio following two Krush Rushes and the Ki Krusher. He also took the second match, making Misterio tap to the Dragon Clutch. Facing elimination, Misterio fought back to win the third match after countering a power bomb into a Rocker Dropper and then rolling Low Ki up for the pin, and the fourth match with the West Coast Pop. As a result, Low Ki and Rey Misterio Jr. will wrestle their fifth match at WrestleRave and then go on to face Red later in the night. So will Low Ki get his third win and be able to get revenge for being pinned at Bloody Summer or will Rey Misterio Jr. get his third win and set up Red's dream match? Red has defended his title a couple times in the past month and a half, defeating Christian York and Ultimo Dragon, but this is likely going to be a tough test. But as they already will have wrestled one match, will the series winner be able to give enough to beat Red?

Next, we're going back to the ring for the main event match of the night.

("Tell Me Why" by Paul Van Dyk plays as Deranged and Spanky, Liquid Sticks, walk out. They announced that they're teaming together last week after blindsiding Red and Ultimo Dragon after their match. They also promised to be part of WrestleRave somehow. They enter the ring and start raving before "Bulls on Parade" by Rage Against the Machine starts playing, bringing out their opponents, the Havana Pitbulls. The Havana Pitbulls made their debuts last week, but ended up losing to AJ Styles and Christian. They walk down the aisle and step through the ropes, then the bell rings.)

[Liquid Sticks vs. The Havana Pitbulls]

Romero and Deranged start out. Deranged charges at Romero and hits a flurry of forearms, but Romero plants a knee deep into his stomach and whips him into the ropes. He catches him with a high knee and immediately tries to put him in a Fujiwara armbar. Deranged rolls free and gets to his feet, dropkicking Romero in the face. He tags in Spanky, who comes in and stomps on Romero a couple times before bringing him up to his feet and whipping him into the ropes. He hits a leg lariat, then makes a cover for two. He brings Romero and tries to slam him, but Romero counters with a small package that gets two. Both men get up and Romero staggers Spanky with a kick to the thigh. He hits him with a slap to the chest and tags in Reyes. Reyes comes in, but Spanky immediately tags in Deranged. Deranged runs in, but Reyes grabs him and throws him to the mat with a waistlock suplex. Spanky comes back in, but Romero pops him with a dropkick. Reyes brings Deranged up and hits him with a reverse neckbreaker, then covers for a near fall. He whips Deranged into the ropes and brings him to the mat with a side suplex. He tags in Romero, who climbs to the top rope and jumps off with a flying kneedrop. Deranged moves out of the way and Romero favors his knee. Deranged tags in Spanky and both men come in and stomp away at the injured knee. They bring Romero up and whip him into the corner. Deranged runs in with a double knee, then Spanky comes in with a flying forearm as Romero falls into the ring. Spanky makes the cover, but Romero kicks out. Spanky hits a couple more stomps, then brings Romero up and hits a vertical suplex. He climbs to the top rope and jumps off with a frog splash, but Romero rolls out of the way. Spanky gets up slowly and Romero pops him with a thrust kick to the head, making Spanky hit the mat like he's been shot. Romero slowly drags himself to his corner as Spanky rolls over and tags in Deranged. Deranged runs over and pulls Romero's leg to prevent the tag, but Romero rolls forward and tags anyway. Reyes comes in and hits Deranged with kicks to either thigh and knocks him down with a forearm. Spanky comes in, but Reyes kicks him in the stomach and grabs him, driving him to the mat with a fisherman buster. Spanky rolls out of the ring as Deranged dropkicks Reyes in the back of the head, knocking him to the mat. He runs into the ropes and hits a flying forearm, then covers for two. He brings Reyes up again and whips him into the corner, then follows in with a Shining Wizard. Reyes staggers out and Deranged turns his back on him before hitting him with a backward kick to keel him over as the ref is trying to get Spanky to go back to his corner. Deranged then runs into the ropes once, then does it again to go for the Blueprint, but Romero reenters the ring and nearly decapitates him with a lariat. Romero rolls out of the ring as Reyes regains his bearings and lifts Deranged, dropping him with a Tombstone. He covers and hooks the leg for three.

The Havana Pitbulls defeated Liquid Sticks when Reyes pinned Deranged after a Tombstone in 0:09:38.
Rating: ** 1/2

(A good first match for Liquid Sticks, but in the end, they hadn't been teaming long enough to get the win over a veteran team like the Havana Pitbulls. Reyes and Romero raise their arms in the air as they head to the back, with Romero slightly limping. Spanky rolls in the ring holding his head and checks on Deranged.)

Chris Benoit and Ken Shamrock vs. Mexico's Most Wanted

This started at the 7/2 show, where Benoit and Shamrock defeated AJ Styles and Christian to retain the Tag Team Titles. Jake Roberts had been making statements for weeks saying that he would be arriving in the GWA, and he did just that after the match, dressed up as part of a riot squad that Commissioner Blanchard had hired to ensure order. He hit Shamrock with the DDT, then Mexico's Most Wanted unmasked and took care of the rest of the riot squad as well as Benoit with the Armed Robbery, that left Benoit unable to compete at all the next week. Shamrock teamed with Quiet Storm to try to get some revenge on Mexico's Most Wanted on 7/9, but Storm was hit with the Armed Robbery as well. Mexico's Most Wanted then defeated the Young Lions to cement their spot in the contender list, allowing them to face Benoit and Shamrock without Blanchard denying it. Shamrock got a chokeout victory over Damien 666 on 7/23, but Halloween and Roberts laid him out afterward. Benoit and Shamrock tried to defend their titles against the Young Lions last week, but Mexico's Most Wanted again came in and laid out both teams. A Benoit and Shamrock both want revenge, but their opponents have shown themselves to be very capable as a team, having competed all around the world in promotions such as WCW, AAA and AJPW, plus they are led by the wrestling genius, Jake Roberts. It appears that the odds are stacked against them. Can they overcome it or will Roberts start to cement his legacy?

Kurt Angle vs. The Rock

This feud really started at Bloody Summer, where Kurt Angle wrestled the Rock in the final of the North American Title Tournament inside of a steel cage. Angle pinned the Rock by countering a Sharpshooter attempt into a small package to win the North American Title. The next week, Angle said that since he beat the Rock in the cage, there was no need for him to face the Rock again, despite the Rock being named the #1 contender to his title. However, the Rock got a six-man tag made for later in the show. During the tag match, Angle and the Rock ended up fighting to the back as Low Ki pinned Rey Misterio Jr. However, Angle didn't back off his stance to not give the Rock a second title shot and instead decided to defend the belt against whoever won a battle royal the next week. The Rock entered but didn't win. However, the Rock pinned Christian on 7/23 to further show that he's the #1 contender and Tully Blanchard made the match for WrestleRave: Kurt Angle vs. The Rock. Last week, Angle faced Joel Maximo, who was trying to get vengeance for the beating Angle gave his brother on the 7/16 show. After putting up a good fight, it looked like Joel was going to be put down by Angle as he was caught in the Ankle Lock. However, the ref was down, allowing the Rock to come in and hit him with the Rock Bottom, and then roll Joel on top for the win. The Rock stood over Angle as the show ended in what could be a preview of what happens tomorrow. Will Angle retain the North American Title, or will the Rock even the score and capture the belt? Find out tomorrow at WrestleRave!
