Cincinnati Pro Second Encounter - 5/12/06

VertigoPosted on 08/05/05 at 19:54:29

Hello all. I have been away for a few months and I have some catching up to do with some feds and such, but I'm going to continue where I left off with Cincinnati Pro.

CP is based off CotD's ROH Ruleset (which is fantastic). After the first year, Matt Stryker is the Tri-State Heavyweight Champion. Chris Hero & Devon Storm won the Tag Team Championship at the last show by defeating Stryker's stablemates, Alexander Otsuka & Josh Abercrombie. Also at the last show Vader spoke of starting his own stable... and also won the Top Contendor's spot in a Four Corners Match in under 10 seconds!! A brief look at the stables running in CP:

The Elite: Matt Stryker, A-Train, Alexander Otsuka, & Josh Abercrombie (all managed by Becky Bayless)
Vicious & Delicious & Friends: Scott Norton, Buff Bagwell, Ahmed Johnson, and possibly Akitoshi Saito?

Tommy Dreamer came out for this match not knowing what he was in for. He was scheduled to wrestle, but this match had not been announced previously to the evening. Seeing Val Venis in Cincinnati Pro was a shock to everyone! Following the match, however, things were explained...

("It's time... it's time... it's VADER TIME!" The familiar entrance theme of the one they call Vader came through the speakers and Vader came to the ring. He raised his arms and did his familiar taunt to the fans. The fans cheered him on. Tommy Dreamer had made his back to the locker room area while Val Venis remained standing in the ring...)

Vader: Ladies... and gentlemen... as you know... I have announced my desire to begin a stable. A group or wrestlers... that can get business taken care of! I watched for months as The Elite ran all over Cincinnati Pro and while I'm not here to defend Cincinnati Pro in any way... I am here... to bring The Elite DOWN from the top of the mountain! Last month... I gained Top Contendorship for Matt Stryker's Tri-State Heavyweight Championship! Taking the gold from Matt Stryker will mean taking Cincinnati Pro... out of The Elite's grasp! One guy that I knew could help in my quest... to be at the top... the man who just made quick work of the beloved "Innovator of Violence" Tommy Dreamer... the first member of The Cannonball Busters... Val Venis! Venis raises his hands in the air and together him and Vader pose...

(The Harvard University alma mater plays through the speakers. The fans boo as Christopher Nowinski strolls to the ring. He doesn't dare step foot into the ring, but he has a microphone and speaks from the aisle. As he speaks, he seems worried...)

Christopher Nowinski: Val Venis.. let me be the first to welcome you to Cincinnati Pro! Vader, that's one hell of a stablemate you've got there. You know who I think would make a hell of a stablemate as well, Vader? ....me! You see, with the knowledge of a Harvard Graduate, I could be the backbone of the... umm... oh yeah.. the Cannonball Busters. I could...

Vader: Nowinski... step through these ropes...

(Nowinski looks hesitant but Vader urges him on. Venis sits on the second rope inviting Nowinski into the ring. Nowinski very cautiously steps onto the ring apron and through the ropes.)

Vader: Come over here...

(Nowinski stalls for a bit... he doesn't want to get too close to Vader... so Val Venis pushes Nowinski into Vader. Vader grabs Nowinski by the back of his hair and pulls his head back. Nowinski drops down pleading with Vader...)

Vader: Boy! You think you can just be a member of the Cannonball Busters? Are you saying we don't have the mindpower to fulfill what we need to do? I tell you what kid... if you want in so bad... prove it to me. Tonight... you step between those ropes again. This time... be prepared for a fight. It will be you against me. Prove it to me...

(Vader's music plays once again as Vader & Val Venis, two members of the newest Cincinnati Pro stable the Cannonball Busters, exit ringside. Nowinski waits a minute before leaving. He is visibly shaken up and also looks scared out of his mind... Nowinski against Vader tonight!)

Rating: * 1/2

Last month Akitoshi Saito was asked to join the stable of Vicious & Delicious & Ahmed Johnson. Apparently, Saito has officially joined them. He came to the ring with Ahmed Johnson wearing a leather jacket and some slick shades. It appears his new found friends has blown his ego way up and now he thinks he's the coolest man walking the planet. All that aside, Saito is tough as nails and can really kick ass. In this match, Saito & Ahmed just toyed with their opponents. Jacobs took the majority of the beating. Marquez was able to mount minimal offense throughout, but Saito & Ahmed didn't even care. In the end Ahmed finally put away Marquez with a flying shoulderblock.

The winner is Dean Malenko. Time of match: 0:17:07

Dean Malenko defeated Johnny Smith by disqualification in 0:17:07.
Rating: **

Going into this match we knew it was going to be a very technical match. A lot of fans are familiar with Dean Malenko and his style and the smart marks know Johnny Smith can hang with guys like Malenko as he has proven in All Japan Pro Wrestling. They exchanged hold for hold and reversal for reversal. While technical at it's core, the match bored the audience after about ten minutes. The match never really picked up any steam, but that's mainly due to Malenko & Smith constantly trying to one-up one another on the mat. In the end, Smith was frustrated. He couldn't put away Malenko and he was mad as hell. Following a German Suplex pin attempt he tossed referee Larry Crotch over the top rope! The match continued on. Smith made his final mistake which allowed Malenko to cinch in the Texas Cloverleaf! The bell rang and Malenko raised his hands in victory. The ring announcer said "Your winner by disqualification... Dean Malenko!" Malenko dropped his arms and looked back at Smith who was already heading to the back! Malenko was pissed that Smith didn't tap out! Malenko felt Smith took a cheap way out. So Malenko went after him down the aisleway but Smith had already made it safely out of Malenko's sight.

The crowd is giving Vader a standing ovation.

The winner is Vader. Time of match: 0:10:10

Vader pinned Christopher Nowinski after a German suplex in 0:10:10.
Rating: ** 1/4

Nowinski approached the ring with caution as he knew he was in for quite the match. Vader attacked Nowinski hard in the beginning unleashing a series of strikes that made the fans wonder how Nowinski was still defending himself. Nowinski took a hell of a lot of shots from Vader but was able to keep his wits together. When he finally started thinking, he started mounting an offense and was able to slow down the big man and work him over a bit. Nowinski got a near fall on Vader with a spinebuster slam, but Vader kicked out. Nowinski's adrenaline started wearing a little thing around the nine minute mark and Vader was just getting his second wind. Vader started countering and eventually began another brutal beating on Nowinski. As much as Nowinski tried to fight, he was beaten in the end with a German Suplex. Vader rolled out of the ring. As he walked to the back he kept his eye on Nowinski who was being helped off the ring mat by the official. What did Vader think of Nowinski? Can Nowinski hang with the Cannonball Busters?

(The next match was a special six-man tag team match. The ICP came to the ring first and with them they brought the homicidal, suicidal, genocidal Sabu. ICP and Sabu are friends and while 99% of the fans dislike the ICP, they were still hot to see Sabu in CP even if it is just for one night. On the opposing side, El Dandy & Damian 666 brought a friend from Mexico with them by the name of Silver King! King graced U.S.A. television as a top luchadore in WCW back in the day.)

The crowd is going crazy.

The winners are El Dandy, Damian 666 and Silver King. Time of match: 0:11:27

El Dandy, Damian 666 and Silver King defeated The Insane Clown Posse (Shaggy 2 Dope and Violent J) and Sabu when Damian 666
pinned Shaggy after a flying senton in 0:11:33.
Rating: ***

Quick tags and double team maneuvers was the name of the game in this match. Sabu and El Dandy started the match and from that point on it seemed to switch about 25 different times! The luchadore trio kept the pressure on the clowns in the beginning, but Sabu interrupted as often as he could until finally he was able to score a good shot on El Dandy. From that point on, El Dandy was on the recieving end of some serious punishment and ICP & Sabu took it to him with strikes, chokeholds, and the occassional submission attempt. Sabu locked in the Camel Clutch at one point, but Silver King was quick to make the save. Finally, after colliding with Violent J in the center of the ring with a double clothesline, Dandy was able to make a tag to Silver King. King came in a house of fire and started taking on all three men. Silver King proceeded to take on all three men at once knocking Violent J & Sabu out of the ring in the process. Shaggy snuck up behind him and attempted a torture rack, but King fought out of it and made the tag to Damian 666 who came in the ring and exchanged with Shaggy for a bit. Seeing an opportunity, El Dandy stepped through the ropes and landed a stiff clothesline on Shaggy which set Shaggy up for a flying senton from Damian 666 and the luchardore trio gets the win!

The Elite (Alexander Otsuka and Josh Abercrombie) defeated Vicious & Delicious (Buff Bagwell and Scott Norton) and The Jung Dragons (Jimmy Yang and Kaz Hayashi) when Otsuka made Yang submit to the Jujigatame in 0:17:22.
Rating: *** 1/4

All three of these teams brought a different style to the ring. From the get-go, The Jung Dragons were looking like the best team. Unfortunatly, the odds were against them and one of them were ALWAYS one of the two men in the ring throughout the entire match. Not one time did a member of The Elite square off against a member of Vicious & Delicious. The Jung Dragons came close to winning the match on a few occassions, but their pinfall attempts were almost always broken up. They got the best of Jimmy Yang and started putting a brutal beating on him. There wasn't much Kaz could do but wait impatiently on the ring apron for a hot tag. A man can only watch his partner get beat up so much so Kaz sprung to action taking on all four of his opponents as they ran in the ring after him! With his opponents down, Kaz saw an opportunity to possibly take out Vicious & Delicious for good. They were on the outside, Kaz took off and dove over the ropes taking out both men but stunning himself in the process. This gave Otsuka enough time to lock on his finishing hold, the Jijigatame, and force Yang into submission. Let's not forget to mention that Becky Bayless and Kimona were nearly going at it as well on the outside defending their tag teams. What a cat fight that would be!

(Following the match, after Otsuka, Abercrombie, & Becky left ringside, Vicious & Delicious began a beating on The Jung Dragons. Friends of Vicious & Delicious, Ahmed Johnson & Akitoshi Saito also came to the ring to aid in the beating. Kimona just stood by horrified over what she was seeing and couldn't do anything about it. "It's TIME... It's Time... It's.. VADER.. TIME!" came over the speakers! The crowd was in an uproar and Vicious & Delicious & Friends were beside themselves in the ring. Slowly coming to the ring were the only two known members of The Cannonball Busters, Vader & Val Venis! As they stepped into the ring, Vicious & Delicious & Friends backed up. Vader got on the microphone...)

Vader: Don't worry... me & Val aren't here to beat you up or anything like that. We just see an opportunity here...

(The Jung Dragons slowly roll outside of the ring to the safety of Kimona and the floor. Vicious & Delicious & Friends await to hear what Vader is getting at...)

Vader: It seems that The Elite isn't the only stable running around here. You guys do things the old way... thug format. So what I see here is a chance for The Cannonball Busters to step into the ring together for the first time and recruit some new members in the process. I hearby challenge the FOUR of you and two partners of your choosing to face me... Val Venis... Christopher Nowinski (the crowd is suprised)... and three partners of our choosing in 2 weeks in Dayton, Ohio!? (the fans cheer at the announcement of a Dayton, OH show)

Buff Bagwell: Who are you going to pick for partners?

Vader: Listen up! As of right now... this is an open invitation to anyone in Cincinnati Pro! This is your chance to prove to The Cannonball Busters that you can run with us! We need three more partners... if you're up for it, then show us!

(With that Vader's music comes on and him and Val Venis leave ringside. Vicious & Delicious & Friends are at a loss for words, but they seem to have accepted the challenge. In 2 weeks, Vicious & Delicious & Friends and two partners of their choosing against the new stable, The Cannonball Busters consisting of Vader, Val Venis, and apparently Christopher Nowinski and three partners volunteering for the position.)

The winner is The Patriot. Time of match: 0:14:24

The Patriot pinned Rick Martel with the Uncle Slam in 0:14:24.
Rick Martel suffered an elbow injury. He will be out for approximately 3 cards.
Rating: ** 1/4

These two athletes have a great deal of respect for one another and they showed it throughout the match. The Patriot overpowered Martel in the beginning until Martel could find a way to match The Patriot's power... and he matched it with some excellent ground work. The Patriot hasn't been known much as a mat wrestler, more of a brawler, and he couldn't really find a way out of Martel's holds. Instead of trying to wrestle Martel on the ground, The Patriot went back to using his strength and powered out of Martel's Quebec Crab! This rejuvinated The Patriot as he began to unleash a flurry of offense on Rick Martel. Martel fought it though and a showing a fighting spirit, fought back as well! These two were going at it hard! Desperate situations cause for desperate measures and when you least expected it, The Patriot hit a low blow on Martel who was attempting a backslide. The got some jeers from the fans. This was the beginning of the end for Martel as The Patriot went on to hit the Uncle Slam for the win. Following the match we recieved word that Martel had injured himself during the match. The doctors checked it out and while not very serious, the doctors advised Martel that if he continued wrestling with the elbow in it's condition, it could get worse.

(We understand that there is a mystery wrestler for the following Four Corners Match. After Hayabusa, Mark Henry, and Tazz have all entered the ring, they await their final opponent. A circus theme roars through the speakers and the fans are on their feet! It's DOINK THE CLOWN!! And he's coming to the ring making balloon animals! Unbelievable! Doink The Clown is the fourth competitor for the match!)

The winner is Mark Henry. Time of match: 0:21:25

Mark Henry defeated Tazz, Hayabusa and Doink The Clown when M. Henry pinned Doink with the Running Powerslam in 0:21:25.
Rating: ****

When did you ever expect Hayabusa to share the ring with Doink The Clown? Well, these were the two men to start off the match. They went at each other fast, but they soon realized they shouldn't be gassing themselves in the opening moments of the match and the pace of the match slowed from there. Mark Henry appeared to be the target of all three men as they spent the majority of the match trying to chop the "big oak tree" down to size. When they would begin feeling confident about themselves, Henry would pop right back up and show them he's not done with yet. In the end it was Doink The Clown trying to secure the win. But he was quickly hit with a barage of power moves eventually leading to the Running Powerslam! Mark Henry continues his impressive winning ways.

The Elite (A-Train and Matt Stryker) defeated Chris Hero and Devon Storm when A-Train pinned D. Storm with the Train Wreck in 0:22:04.
Rating: ***
[Alexander Otsuka interfered against Chris Hero.]

No more than 10 seconds into this match did we see Alexander Otsuka & Josh Abercrombie come to ringside and stand in the corner of their stablemates A-Train & Matt Stryker. It was only last month that Otsuka & Abercrombie lost the tag team titles to Chris Hero & Devon Storm and while this match is a non-title match, they wanted to make sure that Hero & Storm did not overcome The Elite once again! It was obvious that the team of Hero & Storm still need some work together. After all, this is only their second match as a tag team! A-Train & Stryker dominated the match for the most part, but Hero & Storm had their moments when they would explode with some offense only to get cut off not long afterwards. At the end of the match, with Otsuka distracting Hero on the floor, A-Train nailed the Train Wreck on Storm and got the pinfall victory.

Overall: ***

What an exciting event Second Encounter was and what a way to begin Cincinnati Pro's second year! Cincinnati Pro will make it's debut in Dayton, Ohio next weekend, May 26, hosting Battlefield In Dayton! What a stacked card we're going to have for this show...

The biggest story to come out of Second Encounter was the announcement of Vader's new stable, The Cannonball Busters! And just as shocking his first recruit was Val Venis! With the announcement of The Cannonball Busters also came a challenge towards Vicious & Delicious & Friends. A challenge in the form of a 12 Man Tag Team Match! Vicious & Delicious & Friends have already found their two partners... Tazz & John Kronus. What association these two have V&D&F we have no idea... but they are definatly going to be assets to the team. Vader & Val Venis have chosen Christopher Nowinski as one of their partners... but is he an official member of The Cannonball Busters? As for partners, it was an open invitation to anyone who thought they had what it took to be in The Cannonball Busters - a tryout of sorts. So far 2 have answered... El Dandy & Damian 666. One more partner and the match will be complete... we're just not sure who that partner is yet.

What a pleasant surprise it was to see Doink The Clown in Cincinnati Pro. We thought it was a one time deal, but word has it he has signed on for 6 months! His opponent for next week is none other The Patriot.

In a non-title match, the unlikey Tag Team Champions, Chris Hero & Devon Storm, lost to Tri-State Heavyweight Champion Matt Stryker & A-Train of The Elite. As a result of this loss, Chris Hero has demanded that Devon Storm be whipped into shape. Hero was quoted saying "I cannot carry this team on my shoulders alone. I will make sure Devon is ready to defend those belts when the time comes." Unfortunatly for Devon Storm, Hero has scheduled a match between Storm and none other than universal badass Hardcore Holly! Good luck Devon Storm...

The Elite are readying for a big night at Battlefield In Datyon. A-Train is in a Triple Threat Match against Mark Henry, who has been on such a streak lately, and Chris Hero. The winner of this match will face Matt Stryker for the Tri-State Heavyweight Champions... THAT NIGHT! Stryker was heard saying "A-Tran has got to win the Triple Threat Match to ensure that no matter what happens, whether it's me or him that wins, the belt will remain with The Elite." He's quite the team player, no? A-Train, aside from having possibly TWO matches already, has requested a "warm-up" match of sorts. Against who you might ask? No not Pablo Marquez... nor Jimmy Jacobs... but against HAYABUSA!! I wouldn't call this a "warm-up" match, but A-Train feels like he needs it. Let's not forget about the other two members of The Elite, Alexander Otsuka & Josh Abercrombie. They'll be facing The Jung Dragons. Without a third team in there like last time, The Jung Dragons are confident that they can defeat the former Tag Team Champions. And what will happen between Becky Bayless and Kimona? We'll have to wait and see....

Dean Malenko has requested a rematch with Johnny Smith. He was irate about the disqualification finish last week and he says he knows that he can defeat Johnny Smith under any circumstances. Therefore the match has been stipulated a NO-DQ Match!

Finally, in one final blowout... the match to settle the score... the final meeting... Ken Shamrock & Chris Leben (of The Ultimate Fighter fame) will be brought in ONE MORE TIME to finish the heat between each other! They continue to get under each other's skin outside of professional wrestling and we want them to put everything on the line at OUR SHOW!! So next week Ken Shamrock and Chris Leben will hook it up one final time. It will be an "I Quit" Match!

Look out Dayton because Cincinnati Pro is turning your town into a Battlefield... and this has got to be the biggest battle we have EVER put on!
