DWF 10/12/07 + quick question

91Posted on 07/25/05 at 21:55:00

And the aforementioned question will follow, along with the PPV card. But first things first...

Brian Pillman vs Doug Furnas

Brian Pillman may be becoming the loose cannon his nickname suggests more and
more, but the guy is still a great wrestler. With him and Sean O'Haire putting
up their tag team titles this Sunday against the Rock'n'Roll Express, there's
a lot of pressure on him to keep things sane for now. Against former TV champ
Doug Furnas today, Pillman didn't let up an extremely intense offence that
often consisted of him violently pounding away on poor Doug, and leaving him
with a bloody nose at the end.

In the end, Pillman was a fair winner, with the DDT finishing it. Pillman
followed it up after the pin was registered with a second DDT. If he'd left
it there for the night, things might have been much better off, but Pillman
being Pillman was never going to leave it at that. Backstage meanwhile, much
like O'Haire usually calms down Pillman, an enraged Ken Shamrock watching on
was being calmed down by Lance Storm. Evidently Shamrock has not forgotten
what happened at Fall Brawl. *** 1/2

Dynamite Kid vs Hunter Hearst-Helmsley

With just six days to go to Canadian Stampede and three men challenging Don
Muraco for the title, we had each challenger in singles action, as well as the
champion Muraco himself.

We started with Dynamite Kid facing Hunter Hearst-Helmsley. Helmsley himself is
a former champion, albeit many years removed and now more concerned with two
things - bringing a quality lady of the night to the ring and seemingly getting
one or more of his pals a job in the DWF. Indeed, before the match he
approached Matt Hardy and once again requested that he fire Snitsky and
Heidenreich as his bodyguards, and hire Rockabilly as his body guard. This
resulted in Snitsky using his "fire breath" to "set Hunters feet on fire".
Helmsley exited quickly enough and as far as the idiot duo were concerned, they
had just turned Helmsley into a raging inferno.

That aside, Helmsley certainly wasn't suffering any burns come his match with
Dynamite. On this night, and most nights, Dynamite was always going to be
superior and had the majority of the offence, with Helmsley doing enough to at
least keep Dynamite on his toes. Still, with things looking bad, Hunter called
on his whore at ringside to use the mace spray on Dynamite. Dynamite was able
to block that and snatch the offending object away, and with the ref
admonishing the hooker, Dynamite sprayed Helmsley, sending him down. The
Swandive finished and an ever impressive Dynamite improvises his way to another
win. To get another crack at Muraco so soon after the last is a god send for
Dynamite, who must fancy his chances now he has the option of pinning two
other men to win the gold. *** 3/4

Masato Tanaka vs Juventud Guerrera

The cruiserweight battle royal this Sunday will determine the top contender to
Hector Guerreros title and the competition is already heating up with another
preview match today. Juventud Guerrera was recently victorious in tag team
action with a pin on La Parka, but this time he was up against Masato Tanaka,
a man who has himself two victories this year over the great Chris Benoit.
The match kept up a blistering pace, and unfortunately for Juvi, he couldn't
make it two in a row as Tanaka showed some of his top form, wrapping things
up with the Diamond Dust. Still, with close to twenty men entered in the battle
royal, it could be just about anyone walking away with this. **** 1/4

Steve Corino (c) vs Rob Van Dam (television title)

Title challenger number two is himself a reigning champion, as Steve Corino
defended his TV title against Rob Van Dam. Obviously his TV title wouldn't be
on the line this Sunday, but after the mammoth upset he scored over Raven last
week, he may have been confident enough to put it up anyway. Once again, Kidman
joined us for commentary and began hailing Corino as the next champion. RVD
meanwhile is a different kettle of fish and though he seems like he doesn't
know where he is half the time, he's still able to mount an amazing attack that
could beat just about anyone.

Still, RVD might have been on top form, himself also a former world champion,
but Corino has been a house on fire as of late, and was doing wonders against
Van Dam. Van Dam, ever able to make the best of a bad situation turned things
around and after a split legged moonsault, followed by a very close two count,
RVD headed up top for the Five Star Frogsplash. Sadly Corino rolled out of the
way and when Van Dam picked himself up, Corino came in and hit the Old School
Expulsion for the 1-2-3. Good job, Kidman was threatening to sue whomever made
this match this close to Canadian Stampede if Corino lost his belt. But another
win for the TV champ who is going on seven months now as champ. It may be that
he ends up vacating that belt when he holds something a little bigger. **** 1/4

The Rock'n'Roll Express vs Alex Wright & Ulf Herman

So the Rock'n'Roll Express could be six days away from once again being tag
team champions, as they became at the start of the year. Facing the awesome
combination of fellow Germans Alex Wright and Ulf Herman, they were always
going to be in dire straights, and sure enough, Ricky Morton was trapped in
the wrong corner and double teamed. And sure enough, the hot tag came and in
came Robert Gibson who worked over Alex Wright with a swift flurry.

With things going their way, Morton was back up and the Express were able to
use their incredible double team strategy to really fly, as they first worked
over Wright, then dropkicked the massive Herman off the apron. All looked good
until Brian Pillman sprinted down. As he later explained, he thought interfering
was the done thing, but it forced Sean O'Haire down to stop him doing anything
stupid. Too late, he'd distracted the Express - Gibson was thrown from the ring
and Herman delivered a devastating chokeslam to Morton. Wright finished Morton
off with the Schadenfreude for a big victory for the German pair.

As good as Wright and Herman were and yes, despite the controversy, the victory
wasn't exactly undeserved, the Express were robbed by the randomness of Brian
Pillman. O'Haire apologised profusely afterwards when Morton came round and
got Brian to sort of apologise (though the mad grin on his face made it hard
to tell if he was sincere). Still, after that, there'll be a little bad blood
between the teams come this Sunday. And with both teams being very popular, it
will be interesting to see how they'll play it. *** 3/4

Chris Jericho vs Dean Malenko

Our final challenger to the world title this Sunday, yet another former champ
in Chris Jericho. His world title reign some four years ago lasted seven
months so he knows what it takes to hold the gold. Against former
Intercontinental champion Dean Malenko, he had a tough match and yet the
adrenaline rush he has now he's got a chance to be champion again showed
through as he was always on top of things and finished it with the Asai
Moonsault. A big win and who knows, Chris Jericho may be on his way to
becoming a two time heavyweight champion yet. *** 3/4

Tajiri vs Terry Gordy

Another man in the cruiserweight battle royal this Sunday is Tajiri, as well
as tag partner Hayabusa. Tajiri is a former cruiser champ himself, but his
opponent today was the much bigger former TV champion Terry Gordy. It was a
close run thing, with Tajiri hitting some very stiff moves which kept Gordy on
the back foot, until out came Gordys tag partner Steve Williams. One trip
later and Gordy locked in the Asiatic Spike to secure victory. And Gordy and
Williams got a bigger kick by giving Tajiri a few cheap shots until Hayabusa
ran down and got a few swift kicks on Hayabusa until the Miracle Violence
Connection backed off out. ***

Don Muraco (c) vs Chavo Guerrero (world heavyweight title)

So Don Muraco rounds off the four, of course, as a dominant a world champion
as we've ever had. Now whilst the challenge he faces on Sunday is vast and
whilst he's not one to duck people, the sight of him defending his title today
against Chavo Guerrero was a little baffling. The suspicion is that with both
Chavo and Muracos manager Jeff Hardy in the cruiserweight battle royal, Jeff
somehow managed to wrangle this match for his man to try and eliminate the
competition.

Eliminate the competition he might have, as Chavo was NEVER going to be a match
for Muraco. A token threesome of dropkicks a couple of minutes in was the
grand sum of what he was given the chance to do, and they didn't phase the big
man one bit. Chavo was positively wiped out and Muraco scored an easy a win as
he was ever going to get. Very very impressive, but he's got so much more to
be worried about this Sunday with the quality of his opposition, and he doesn't
even have to be pinned to lose the belt. Still, if anything it teaches us that
we should be careful what we ask for - we may just get it. ****

Other notes

Brad Armstrong, "The Rock", appeared on the Kings Court with King Kanyon today
to showcase his being Intercontinental champion. Now he might have run down
the crowd somewhat, refering to them as trailer park trash (of course) but
Brad keeps on waivering towards actually being popular. But as he ran down
everyone he could think of, out came a man who is definitely on the fans good
side, Rey Mysterio. Now as he beat Brad a few weeks ago at Fall Brawl, albeit
only on a technicality, he's entitled to another shot and he asked as much
right there and then. Brad told him that "The Rock isn't interested in giving
some roody poo candy ass midget the time of day, let alone a shot at the
great ones belt", but he may not have a choice on that.

And following Rey was Eddie Guerrero who has some claim on getting a shot
himself, at least in his eyes. For once he didn't has his brothers backing him
up, but demanded a shot because a) he could beat Rey any day of the week and
b) nobody disrespects him like Brad disrespected him. Bad move, as Brad got
straight back in his face and went straight for the gratuitous lawnmower lines.
Eddie was incensed, and so was Rey who wasn't happy with Eddies remarks about
him either, and instantly made a challenge. Brad then agreed that if either of
them could impress him during their match, he'd give them a shot. The upshot
of this is that an Eddie/Rey match has now been signed for Canadian Stampede,
and from what we understand, Brad Armstrong will be keeping a watching eye.

Larry Zbyszko is a bit big for his boots, and it's really cost him now. With
John Cena injured, that potential Canadian Stampede match is off, and Zbyszko
proclaimed in an in-ring spiel that this should count as a victory to him,
just like the moral victory he has over Bruno Sammartino. Cena wasn't going to
sit back just because he was hurt and walked out to confront Larry. Actually
he drove out, in Larrys stolen car, complete with new paint job, fuzzy dice
and bigger stereos.

Now Larry was furious, even more so when Cena said he was returning the car
because the suspensino had broken after he went over a speed bump too fast,
and then damaged the automatic locking. But things were about to get worse, as
Cena told Larry he'd had a word with the officials, slipped them some twenties
that he'd found in Larrys glove compartment and gotten him a replacement
opponent - RAVEN! Larrys jaw dropped at that news and he was steaming. Cena
made his exit, looking very smug indeed. Now one could feel sorry for Larry,
but again, that's not going to happen.

Canadian Stampede in six days time means one thing - a very unhappy Kurt Angle
who of course despises anything non-American, and he made his thoughts very
clear in front of "his" American people today. Usually a bit of Canadian
bashing would go down well with a U.S. crowd, but Angle is an idiot so that
was out of the way. And Angle intends to embarass Canada as much as possible,
challenging any Canadian to a match this Sunday. To answer the challenge came
Christian. Angle laughed at that particular prospect, except Christian told
him he wasn't the one to answer this one, as out from the crowd popped brother
Edge, who promptly speared Angle out of his boots.

Angle would LOVE to give the finger to Canada by defeating Edge in his backyard
and conversely, Edge would love to humiliate the overly cocky Angle and make
him eat his words. With Christian possibly hanging around, it could be an
interesting match.

Finally Pretty Perfect are going to team up again this Sunday, after Matt Hardy
made them an offer. He wanted to kick the show off with a six man tag and had
already signed The Pitbulls and Bobby Eaton on one side, and Dean Malenko on
the other, and told Pretty Perfect if they dropped their tag team boycott AND
won the match on Sunday, he'd drop the ban on them getting title shots and
allow them another crack at Psychoanalysis. Unsurprisingly, Hart and Hennig
accepted that one, and we've got ourselves a little tag team action.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Canadian Stampede - final lineup

Don Muraco (c) vs Dynamite Kid vs Chris Jericho vs Steve Corino (worlds heavyweight title)

Psychoanalysis (c) vs The Rock'n'Roll Express (tag team titles)

Jody Fleisch vs Matt Hardy
Raven vs Larry Zbyszko
Rey Mysterio vs Eddie Guerrero
Edge vs Kurt Angle
Lance Storm vs Rene Dupree
The Pitbulls & Bobby Eaton vs Pretty Perfect & Dean Malenko

Cruiserweight battle royal: Low Ki, Masato Tanaka, Kid Kash, Jeff Hardy, Jonathan Coachman, Chavo Guerrero, Juventud Guerrera, Mando Guerrero, Tajiri, Hayabusa, La Parka, Christian York, Joey Matthews, Super Calo, Pete Gas, Rodney, Tajiri and Hayabusa

OK, that quick question (actually it's not THAT quick, so bear with me). So I had the idea recently (and I can't believe nobody has ripped this one off yet) of nabbing the idea from the WWE of Taboo Tuesday, only with another cheesy generic name. Simply, people vote, I book matches depending on the results and I might even chuck a title change or two in there. Just a little something to amuse me, might be a bit of fun, y'know the sort of thing.

The only problem is that the number of people reading right now isn't exactly gigantic compared to other peoples cards right now. Not a problem, I take Snabby's line of not running my circuit for the benefit of other people so I'm not going to complain about that. The problem would be if I announce the idea in my cards and then nobody votes, and I look like a tit.

So basically, how likely am I to actually get anything in the way of votes if I were to announce it? My line of thinking is if Superstar Jimi C can always get half a dozen votes for projects everyone KNOWS he's not going to follow up on, I should surely be able to get at least three (which would sort of be an absolute bare minimum to justify it) on a project that everyone equally knows I AM going to go ahead with.

Right? If so, brilliant. If not, screw you guys then no matter. Man, I sound like such a geek... :P
AzraelPosted on 07/26/05 at 06:10:16

To your question: I'd vote for it. I assume you'd list a few people eligible for each match (I really don't remember how Taboo Tuesday worked).

And now, for predictions.

Don Muraco (c) vs Dynamite Kid vs Chris Jericho vs Steve Corino (worlds heavyweight title)

Don't see any reason why Muraco doesn't win this. But the odds do seem to be stacked against him.

Psychoanalysis (c) vs The Rock'n'Roll Express (tag team titles)

I see Psychoanalysis retaining, if only so they can almost snap at each other for a couple more months.

Jody Fleisch vs Matt Hardy

All the odds are stacked against Jody, which of course means he'll win when Snitsky and Heidenreich use their superpowers to no avail.

Raven vs Larry Zbyszko

Raven better win. I like your Zbyszko and all, but I don't see him beating a World Title contender.

Rey Mysterio vs Eddie Guerrero

I think Eddie cheats his way to a win. But really I have no idea.

Edge vs Kurt Angle

Angle keeps up his display of American dominance.

Lance Storm vs Rene Dupree

Uh...Storm I guess.

The Pitbulls & Bobby Eaton vs Pretty Perfect & Dean Malenko

I'll go with Pretty Perfect and Malenko on this one.

Cruiserweight battle royal: Low Ki, Masato Tanaka, Kid Kash, Jeff Hardy, Jonathan Coachman, Chavo Guerrero, Juventud Guerrera, Mando Guerrero, Tajiri, Hayabusa, La Parka, Christian York, Joey Matthews, Super Calo, Pete Gas, Rodney, Tajiri and Hayabusa

Hmm...I'm torn between Tanaka and Low Ki. I guess I'll go with Tanaka. Even though Tajiri and Hayabusa are pretty formidable if they're entered twice.  :)
Snabbit888Posted on 07/26/05 at 07:51:29

Pillman is nuts, but he may have pissed off the only other guy who snaps more than him.

Ha ha... DWF needs more Rockabilly.  Dynamite with another good win.  I always forget that HHH was a DWF World champion.  Ewww.

Tanaka challenging for the Cruiserweight title is kinda... I dunno, weird.  he surely meets the weight limit, but he doesn't seem like the Cruiserweight division type.  Ah well, your promotion. :)

Corino with a good title defense against the former World champion RVD.  Corino is elevating the TV Title nicely, and will moreso with a good showing at the Stampede.

Wow... Ricky Mullet and Lazy-eye Gibson lose before their big title shot thanks to creepy Brian Pillman.  O'Haire has to be getting sick of being peacekeeper.

Jericho with the token win over Dean Malenko.  Don't like his chances this Sunday though.

Tajiri vs. Gordy seemed misplaced in this card.  So... yeah.  Not a lot to say about it.

**** squash main event!  Woohoo! :)

Don Muraco (c) vs Dynamite Kid vs Chris Jericho vs Steve Corino (worlds heavyweight title)

*** Muraco retains, pinning Jericho.

Psychoanalysis (c) vs The Rock'n'Roll Express (tag team titles)

*** Psychoanalysis somehow retains, setting up the Syndicate beating them next month.

Jody Fleisch vs Matt Hardy

*** Fleisch

Raven vs Larry Zbyszko

*** Raven please.

Rey Mysterio vs Eddie Guerrero

*** Mysterio

Edge vs Kurt Angle

*** Angle

Lance Storm vs Rene Dupree

*** Dupree

The Pitbulls & Bobby Eaton vs Pretty Perfect & Dean Malenko

Pretty Perfect/Malenko

Cruiserweight battle royal: Low Ki, Masato Tanaka, Kid Kash, Jeff Hardy, Jonathan Coachman, Chavo Guerrero, Juventud Guerrera, Mando Guerrero, Tajiri, Hayabusa, La Parka, Christian York, Joey Matthews, Super Calo, Pete Gas, Rodney, Tajiri and Hayabusa

*** Hrm... Kid Kash.

And I'd surely vote.

Yeah, **** for the main, that seemed a bit off, but I guess TNM went "wow, a great worker like Chavo against the guy with the biggest push in the company, I'll give it an awesome rating, even though it lasted less than five minutes". Oh well. Actually, ALL the ratings were huge here, and here's me saying I wasn't fussed about that anymore. Cest la vie.

Masato... yeah, I keep forgetting I have him, which sort of hurts his chances. I put him in basically because I really ought to be doing something with him, especially off the back of his run earlier in the year.

As for Gordy/Tajiri, it's another case of people - in this case two teams - I really ought to be using. Especially Gordy as a) I'm a great appreciator of his work, hence his two TV title reigns and b) hearing 'Freebird' every time he wins is always a plus.

Speaking of the Japanese pair - whoops. :D Well spotted Azzy. I have a suspicion I've left two others off. If I have, don't worry, I've remembered to include the winner at least.

I was thinking with Rockabilly - am I going overboard by having him appear AT ALL? Your praise just sealed the death knell, and I do have a couple of possible ideas in mind. For your sake, I hope you weren't just saying that to be nice. :P
