PNW: Hot Hot Heat (August 13, 2005)

loganvesseyPosted on 07/12/05 at 07:05:56

Welcome again to Everett, Washington for the next big Pacific Northwest Wrestling show! Today we decide our last vacant title as Mike Sanders and Bob Holly sqaure off for the PNW Puget Sound Title! PNW Northwest Champion Shane Douglas has also said that he WILL defend his title tonight, although we do not know who against. The Full Blooded Italians will defend the PNW Tag Team Titles against The Mamalukes, and more action here tonight!

We're going to start off with Chris Kanyon and Christopher Nowinski.

Chris Kanyon pinned Christopher Nowinski with the That's A Wrap in 0:11:18.
Rating: *** 1/4

About halfway through the match, "Lord" William Regal came down to ringside and watched the match. He didn't say or do anything while he was down there, he just stood and watched, occasionally nodding and smirking. After Kanyon defeated Nowinski, he stood there a little longer and watched Nowinski as he stirred, but never said anything, and then left the ringside area.

Shane Helms pinned Elix Skipper after a running neckbreaker drop in 0:06:21.
Rating: *** 1/4

Shane Helms and Elix Skipper put on a hell of a back and forth match in this short six minutes. Skipper hit a couple of big high spots, and it ended with Helms and a running neckbreaker drop for the win.

Shane Douglas came out to the ring after the match with a microphone already in hand.

SD: Ladies and gentlemen of the Pacific Northwest...I am your champion. We have not been formally introduced. My name is Shane Douglas...I am the Franchise of this company. I am the CHAMPION of this company. I run this place, and there isn't a man here that can stop me. I defy anyone to stand in my way! In fact, I have a challenge tonight for one of the top contenders to my title. I'm not going to be some absentee champion...I'm going to defend my title, and I'm going to kick the ass of every piece of trash in this godforsaken rainy, depressing town. Not that I actually believe that anyone in this place can challenge me...but I'm going to let Al Snow have the first shot at my belt tonight.

Before Douglas can leave the ring, Rick Steiner's music hits, and Rick Steiner comes walking out to the ring. Douglas looks shocked, but stands his ground. Steiner picks up the microphone.

RS: So no one can challenge you, huh Shane? NO ONE? How about the man that damn near took that title from you last month...ME! You say you're not going to be an absentee champion...and you say you're going to defend your title against the top contenders? Well why don't you give me another shot then Shane? Are you scared?

SD: SCARED? Like I'd be scared of a fat tub of crap like you.

With that, Steiner drops Douglas with a Steinerline, then picks him up and tosses him almost all the way across the ring with a vicious overhead belly-to-belly suplex! The crowd goes absolutely bananas for Rick Steiner as he walks away from the ring!

The Mamalukes (Big Vito and Johnny The Bull) defeated
The Full Blooded Italians (Little Guido and Reno) when Vito pinned Guido
with the Frog Splash in 0:10:35.
Rating: **
(The Mamalukes won the PNW Tag Team Titles.)

This one was all because of Tony Marinara. Every time Reno or Guido had a pinfall, he would distract the ref or put his man's foot on the ropes. The finish came when Guido went up to the top rope for a flying dropkick, but he was pushed off by Marinara right into Big Vito's waiting arms. Vito hit him with a powerslam, then went up top and his his Frog Splash, followed by a three count, and we have new tag team champions.

Triangle Match:
Christopher Daniels defeated Billy Kidman and Konnan:
x C. Daniels beat Kidman via the Last Rites in 0:17:10
x C. Daniels beat Konnan via the Last Rites in 0:18:26
Rating: *** 3/4

Kidman and Konnan were definitely the crowd favorites in this one, because the crowd absolutely despised Christopher Daniels. Their boos seemed to give Daniels fuel, however, as with every passing minute he seemed to get stronger and stronger. He's definitely proving himself to be a legitimate contender in this place.

Rhyno pinned Chris Candido with the Gore in 0:15:12.
Rating: *** 1/4

Rhyno and Chris Candido put on a hell of a match from beginning to end. The crowd was still hot from watching the Daniels/Kidman/Konnan match, and it carried over into this. They were absolutely bonkers for Rhyno. Chris Candido's finish came unexpectedly, however, as he was in control. He went for a rana, which Rhino reversed into an absolutely vicious powerbomb, then waited for Candido to get up, and Gored him into the turnbuckle. There was no getting up for Candido after that one.

After the match, AJ Styles came down to ringside.

AS: So yeah...I'll admit that I got beat last week, fair and square. Mike Sanders, you were the better man last week. I've come down here to make sure of one thing, Sanders..I've come down here to make sure that this match is fair and square. I know there are no DQs, and there are no countouts, and nothing would make me happier than to climb into this ring and absolutely DEMOLISH you...but that's not what I'm going to do. I'm going to stand right here, and make sure nobody gets in the way of this match, and make sure that I get the first shot at you after this match. I'm going to hope against hope that you walk out of here with that Puget Sound Title...because I want to be the one to take it from you.

Styles drops the mic, and pulls up a seat at ringside as the introductions for the next match take place. Mike Sanders comes down to the ring and looks tentative, staying as far away from Styles as he can.

No-Time-Limit-No-Countout-No-DQ-Match for the vacant PNW Puget Sound Title:
Mike Sanders pinned Bob Holly with the Modified Neckbreaker in 0:12:44.
Rating: * 3/4
(Mike Sanders won the PNW Puget Sound Title.)

AJ Styles did exactly what he said he was going to do...he kept it fair and square. He never made an attempt to get into the match, although his presence at ringside clearly shook Mike Sanders for a portion of the match. Obviously it didn't shake him too much, as he took the match in the end with his Modified Neckbreaker. After the match, AJ Styles climbed into the ring, and actually presented Mike Sanders with the PNW Puget Sound Title. You could see that he was telling Sanders that he wanted the first shot. Mike Sanders stuck out his hand to shake AJ Styles' hand, as if he was agreeing to the match-up. Styles looked around confused, and then agreed to shake Sanders hand...AND THEN MIKE SANDERS HIT STYLES WITH THE BELT!! Mike Sanders left AJ Styles laid out in the ring as he walked away to huge boos from the crowd.

Shane Douglas pinned Al Snow with the Pittsburgh Plunge in 0:13:39.
Rating: ** 1/2
(Shane Douglas retained the PNW Northwest Title.)

This one was never out of hand. Shane Douglas dominated from beginning to end. Al Snow could never get into an offensive groove. It ended with the Piitsburgh Plunge. Shane Douglas picked up a microphone after the match.

SD: Rick Steiner...you think you can stand up to this? You think your tubby lard ass deserves a shot at MY title? Well, you've got another thing coming, my friend. If you want a shot, you'd better prove to me that you deserve it...because otherwise you ain't getting one, fat boy.

Shane Douglas drops the mic and walks out of the ring. As he gets to the back, the curtain blasts open, and Rick Steiner explodes out with a Steinerline! He hits Shane Douglas so hard that Douglas actually flips over on the ramp! Steiner picks up a microphone.

RS: Shane Douglas, I'm making it my mission in PNW not only to beat you, not only to win your World Title, but I'm making it my mission to EMBARASS you..if it's the last thing I do around here, Shane Douglas, you're gonna regret crossing The Dog-Faced Gremin. You want me to prove myself? Well I'll do it! Next month I'll take on two competitors of your choice in a handicap match, and if I win, you give me a shot at your belt chump.

Steiner drops the microphone and walks away the crowd pops huge and the show fades out!

Interesting bit with Regal.  Have my interest peaked :)

For some reason I'm a little surprised that Helms got the W over Skipper.  Maybe I'm just not as used to Helms as a real player in the singles division.  I think PNW may help change my perception of him in that regard.

*goes bananas for Steiner as well*  For some reason I'm still real big on Rick Steiner.

I pegged FBI to retain tonight.  This just fuels the fires between them though.

Daniels has one dominant night.  I think Daniels has a bright future in the PNW which in my opinion is always good to see. :)

I'm of the ilk that I don't mind seeing wrestlers who are no longer with us in TNM feds if that's what the person running wants.  Candido may have done the job to Rhyno, but it's good to see a wrestlers memory live on in fans.  Wrestlings not about winner or losing anyway. :)

Sanders getting the title wasn't expected.  Nice set up with Styles though.

I'm glad Shane retained (hey, that rhymed) as now we should get to see Douglas and Steiner get it on... well... assuming Steiner can win the handicap match. ;D

CHRIS CANDIDO DIED??

I haven't watched wrestling in almost 4 years. I pretty much quit watching around the time of the buyout, although my interest was dwindling before that.

Holy shit...that's a bombshell.

I'm trying to do kind of an old-style twist in this circuit, with true heel vs. face feuds. I think I've got a fairly effective one in Steiner and Douglas, as well as something that could be good with Styles and Sanders (I have some plans for that one).

I'm excited to work with this curcuit, and I love hearing the feedback!
