Linix?

Have you heard of VMWare? VMWare and Wine would be your best choice, although there are several different Windows emulators for Linux.

I mean to try this myself sometime but wouldn't TNM run in DosBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1) in Linux? It should be easier to configure to run than Wine and I suspect it would require less resources.

TNM7SE runs fine in DosBox. You might run into a problem with some of the newer Windows-based plugins.

So a Windows emulator would be a better idea if you want to get the full TNM7SE experience.

I haven't messed with Wine or any of the other simulators yet.
I just want to prepare myself for the day when Microsoft's DRM "upgrades" ruin some of the things I like best about the game.

That's a common misconception. The "DRM upgrades" will only treat DRM-activated files. Regularly ripped MP3s won't have that trouble... unless - of course - the ripping software is... ahem... "DRM-activated" ;)

That may be true now but MS and the **AA's, among others, are definitely aiming for greater control. This link has an interesting discussion about "trusted computing" : http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~rja14/tcpa-faq.html.

Hopefully, Sony's recent DRM fiasco will slow down adoption of DRM technologies although I suspect they will just become even sneakier.
