ECW To Be The Man
Date: February 4, 1995
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Arena: ECW Arena

[Joey Styles is standing in the center of the ring holding a microphone while
the crowd chants "E-C-W" loudly. When the crowd begins to quiet down, Joey
Styles begins to speak.]

Joey Styles: At this time I would like to introduce my guest. He is the man
that threw down the prestigeous NWA World Heavyweight Championship and
proclaimed a new era of extreme. He is "The Franchise" Shane Douglas!

["Perfect Strangers" by Deep Purple blares across the speakers, signalling the
arrival of "The Franchise" Shane Douglas. After a few moments, he walks out of
the back and down the aisle. The crowd has a mixed reaction for Shane Douglas,
some like him and respect him for what he did with the NWA Title last year.
While others think he's a pompous pretty boy. Shane Douglas enters the ring and
stands by with Joey Styles.]

Joey Styles: Franchise, apparently you have requested this time to issue a
challenge. The soapbox is all yours.

[Joey Styles hands Shane Douglas the microphone.]

Shane Douglas: Thank you Joey. You're right. I do have a challenge to give, but
it's not just one challenge. You see, last week I got embarassed in the first
Extreme Championship Wrestling show. After all that legal bullshit with the NWA
after my decision to throwdown their supposedly prestigeous title and our
promotion pulling out of their pathetic joke of an alliance, I was looking
forward to coming out of Extreme Revolution as a winner. But what happens? I
get put into a Triangle Match with two guys that have no respect for themselves
or anyone else. The Sandman and Sabu shouldn't have been put into a match with
me. They aren't in my league. They're just pathetic garbage wrestlers who like
to play with their toys, be it a singapore cane, a chair, or even a damn trash
can. That's not me. I'm a wrestler and a damn good one at that. So when the
record shows The Sandman defeats The Franchise, let it be known that it was a
fluke and not an indication of how truly great I am.

[The crowd boos Shane Douglas and starts a "Fuck You Franchise" chant.]

Shane Douglas: Real classy guys. I put myself out there by throwing down the
NWA title and this is the respect I get from you miserable mutants? It's not
"Fuck You Franchise." It's fuck you people!

[The crowd continues their boos and chants directed at Shane Douglas.]

Shane Douglas: And you know how I'm going to prove that The Sandman's victory
last month was a fluke? I'm going to issue a challenge not only to The Sandman,
but to the most genocidal, suicidal, homicidal man in wrestling today, Sabu!
You see, Sabu, you're partially to blame for my loss. All your high flying,
garbage wrestling with chairs and ladders and tables, it distracted me from my
game. But I know why you're so skilled with all those foreign objects Sabu.
You're covering up your flaws and weaknesses. Basically you suck as a wrestler.
One on one, I'll prove that to these assholes tonight.

[Suddenly, the lights turn off in the arena and the crowd goes crazy. The crowd
chants for Sabu and when the lights turn back on, appearing in the ring, pointing
up to the sky is none other than Sabu! Shane Douglas looks worried, but his ego
covers up for that.]

Shane Douglas: Nice of you to show up Sabu, and in such fast time too. I guess
you're looking forward to getting your ass kicked by The Franchise. Ha ha!

[Once again, the lights go off. After a few moments, the beginning of "Enter
Sandman" by Metallica plays and the crowd goes even crazier than before. When
the lights come back on, The Sandman can be seen in the crowd holding his
singapore cane in the air. The Sandman takes a beer out of his pocket, pops it
open, and gulps it down. The crowd all around him chant E-C-W. The Sandman
takes the empty beer can and smashes it against his forehead to the point that
he's actually busted open. It takes a few minutes before The Sandman actually
makes it to the ring as he goes all around the arena, stops and poses with his
singapore cane and drinks more beer. Once inside the ring, it looks as if we'll
have a rematch of last week's Triangle Match.]

Shane Douglas: That took too damn long! Enough of this bullshit, I want an
answer from both you to my challenge! Yes or no?!

[The reply? The Sandman slams his singapore cane to Sabu, knocking him down.
Sabu looks to get back up, but ECW officials prevent him from doing so and
forcefully take him backstage. Towards The Franchise, The Sandman spits in his
direction. Shane Douglas is disgusted and throws down the microphone, telling
the timekeeper to ring the bell to start the match.]

Shane Douglas pinned The Sandman with the Pittsburgh Plunge in 0:07:00.
Rating: * 3/4

Shane Douglas was able to keep this match inside the ring and keep Sandman away
from any foreign objects to bring into use in this match. The truth is, Shane
Douglas is a better technical wrestler than The Sandman and Shane Douglas
played to his strengths in this match to get the victory. This is a big win for
The Franchise as it puts him up 1-0 in the Challenge Series tonight against
Sabu and The Sandman.

The Gangstas (New Jack and Mustafa) defeated The Eliminators (John Kronus and
Perry Saturn) when New Jack pinned Saturn after a diving headbutt in 0:06:41.
Rating: **

This match featured the ECW debuts of two up and coming tag teams in the sport
today. The Gangsters, consisting of New Jack and Mustafa, are from Smokey
Mountain Wrestling, while The Eliminators are a newly formed team that shows a
lot of promise with their unique styles. This match was relatively short, but
it showcased what can be expected from both teams in ECW. They both personify
the word extreme. The ending saw New Jack hit a diving headbutt on Perry Saturn
through a table to get the three count.

Mikey Whipwreck pinned Tommy Dreamer with the Whippersnapper in 0:05:43.
Rating: ***

These two are good friends, but in ECW it doesn't matter if you're friends,
good or bad, it's about competition. This match was interupted when a grungey
looking figure entered the ring and slammed a chair to the head of Tommy
Dreamer. This man then proceeded to hit a DDT on Tommy Dreamer onto the folded
chair. He held his arms out before leaving the ring. Mikey Whipwreck took
advantage by hitting his finisher, the Whippersnapper, and then going for the
three count.

Sabu pinned The Sandman after a ropeflip moonsault in 0:03:23.
Rating: *

Tonight's matches have all been uncharastically short in length and hardcore
action. This match was much of the same sadly, even though both The Sandman and
Sabu are two ECW's more extreme and intense performers. This just wasn't The
Sandman's night as this was his second loss and thus, eliminates him from
winning the challenge series. Sabu's win will build nicely to the main event
match against Shane Douglas.

[The camera focuses on Too Cold Scorpio standing in front of an ECW banner.]

Too Cold Scorpio: You people might have noticed that I'm not on the card
tonight wrestling. I wish I was, especially after my disappointing loss to Taz
last month. However, tonight I'm here to make a big announcement about next
month's show. I went to the management and requested a tag team match against
any tag team in ECW or elsewhere. Why? Because my tag team partner is...

[The camera slowly moves to the side to reveal...Razor Ramon?]

Razor Ramon: That's right. Razor is back and ready to get extreme. Now, I might
not be the WWF Intercontinental Champion anymore, but I won't let that stop me
from having some fun. Last month, I wrestled a match against Jeff Jarrett here
in ECW. From the top to the bottom, I was treated with the utmost respect and
treated like I was one of you all. Although I'm happy up in New York, I loved
it here and wanted some more. When my good buddy Too Cold Scorpio asked me if I
wanted to tag with him against any tag team right here in ECW I was all too
willing to say yeah, bring it on! Now, I know some of you chicos in the back
and for all you "smart" fans in the arena think I'm just some gimmick and I
don't have what it takes to get extreme. Well, next month, I will show you all
that the bad guy can get extreme with the best of them.

[The picture fades back into the ECW Arena where our next match is set to
begin.]

Chris Benoit and Taz defeated Public Enemy (Rocco Rock and Johnny Grunge) when
Taz defeated Rocko when Rocko passed out in the Tazmission in 0:14:23.
Rating: ****

After last month's tag team match against The Public Enemy, Chris Benoit
demanded a rematch after not only losing the match with his partner Dean
Malenko, but also the fact that Malenko suffered a serious injury that will
keep him out for most of the year. Since Dean Malenko was unavailable, Chris
Benoit did the next best thing and somehow got Taz to be his tag team partner.
That was a wise decision on Chris Benoit's part. These two made for an
excellent tag team combination and what resulted was a great match and the best
of the night so far. Taz continued his impressive ways by winning this match
after making Rocco Rock submit to the Tazmission.

Eddie Guerrero pinned Cactus Jack with the Frog Splash in 0:07:50.
Rating: *** 1/4
(Eddie Guerrero won the ECW World Television Title.)

This was a rematch of last month's final two participants in the six man battle
royal for the ECW World Television Title. The entire month afterwards, Eddie
Guerrero has been vocally trashing Cactus Jack for his wrestling style and for
how he won the title. When facing someone like Cactus Jack, Eddie Guerrero is
definitely out of his element. However, tonight, Eddie Guerrero put in a strong
performance and much like what Shane Douglas accomplished earlier against The
Sandman, he made Cactus Jack work in his element and strength, mat based
wrestling and high flying, aerial moves, which is not Cactus Jack's forte by
any means. After a back suplex and a Frog Splash, Eddie Guerrero got the three
count and with it, the ECW World Television Championship! Perhaps this win
validates what Eddie Guerrero was talking about this past month, but don't be
surprised to see Cactus Jack get a rematch.

[Joey Styles catches up with Tommy Dreamer, who is trying to leave the arena.]

Joey Styles: Tommy, before you go I just have to ask you, who was that man that
interfered in your match against Mikey Whipwreck?

[Tommy Dreamer pauses a moment before speaking and pauses again, reluctant to
talk.]

Tommy Dreamer: Joey, I like you. But right now, I just don't want to talk about
it. The past should stay that way...in the past.

[Tommy Dreamer leaves the arena and leaves Joey puzzled by his answer. The
scene goes back inside the ECW Arena.]

Triangle Match:
The Pitbulls (Pitbull 1 and Pitbull 2) defeated The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray
Dudley and D-Von Dudley) and Stevie Richards and Brian Lee when Pitbull 1
pinned Bubba after the Superbomb in 0:06:29.
Rating: ** 1/2

The Dudley Boyz like to talk about how they perceive themselves as the best tag
team in the world today. However, after tonight's results it will show that The
Pitbulls defeated the self proclaimed world's greatest tag team after they hit
the Superbomb. Needless to say, The Dudley Boyz won't rest on their laurels
after this setback. The issues between The Dudley Boyz and The Pitbulls are not
over by any means.

Sabu pinned Shane Douglas after a legdrop in 0:01:07.
Sabu injured his left knee. He will be out for approximately 1 card.
Rating: *

"The Franchise" Shane Douglas is denied bragging rights and loses the Challenge
Series to Sabu! The loss was even worse considering that he lost in an
embarassing short amount of time, just over a minute! Before the match even
began, Shane Douglas got on the microphone and talked more trash about The
Sandman and Sabu. The lights went off and when they turned back on, Sabu was on
top of one of the turnbuckles holding a folded chair. He flew off the
turnbuckle and hit a flying dropkick on a stunned Shane Douglas with the chair.
Shane Douglas was never able to recover from that and was unable to kick out
after Sabu hit a legdrop.

Card rating: ** 1/4

ECW Update

Next month's card at the ECW Arena is looking as strong as the last, as Extreme Championship Wrestling is attempting to build momentum towards the future.

The card in March promises to hold many surprises for the fans and followers of the promotion. In fact, we here at ECW promise you THREE surprise mystery wrestlers to face three of our biggest wrestlers, which include Taz, The Sandman, and Shane Douglas, all in singles matches.

The new ECW World Television Champion, Eddie Guerrero, will defend his title in a Three Way Dance against the former champion Cactus Jack and Mikey Whipwreck!

The war between The Dudley Boyz and The Pitbulls continue next month, but will have a third participant in The Public Enemy. Apparently, The Public Enemy demanded to be included in this match so they could get payback to both of these teams for their comments made about them. This Three Way Dance will have the ECW Arena rocking, that is for sure.

Also, Ultimate Fighter and the man known around the world as being the "world's most dangerous man", Ken Shamrock will make a special appearance.

Last but not least, the WWF's own Razor Ramon will team up with Too Cold Scorpio to face The Eliminators. This isn't the first time Razor Ramon has been in the ECW Arena, but this will be his first time competing under ECW rules. Can Razor Ramon prove to be more extreme than most people think?

Don't miss out on all the ECW action on March 18, 1995!
Shaun SindelmanPosted on 06/29/05 at 18:01:15

I like what you're doing here thus far...definitely feel nostalgic for the days at the Viking Hall aka ECW Arena.

Raven is in ECW ... well we're not supposed to know it's Raven but still. =)

Loved how Shane was furious with Sandman's extended time spent getting to the ring.

Keep up the good work.
91Posted on 06/29/05 at 22:32:52

Yeah, I quite enjoyed this one. I haven't much to add - Douglas was probably the highlight, but then he did get the most mic time, so to speak. And yes, as Shaun said, it's obviously Raven but nicely restrained - it would have been easy to have said "and then... OH MY HOLY FUCKING GOD IT'S MOTHER FUNKING RAVEEENNNNN!!!" even though as far as your version of history goes, the Raven character doesn't exist yet.

Don't know who the three mystery wrestlers could be. I suppose the big ECW names absent from this show (and without checking old cards, I'll assume they're absent altogether) would be Raven, Bam Bam Bigelow, Rob Van Dam, Mike Awesome, Terry Funk, Chris Jericho and probably several others I've forgotten. Obviously some are more unlikely than others due to the stages their careers were at in 1995 but I'm sure creative liberties shan't be a problem. ;)
Shaun SindelmanPosted on 06/29/05 at 23:13:03

Between the knowledge that the 3 people facing mystery opponents are Taz, The Sandman, and Shane Douglas and the names mentioned by 91, my predicitions are:

Taz vs Jericho

Shane vs RVD

Sandman vs Bam Bam

but that's all speculation.

I just think the mystery person is gonna compliment their challenger quite well in each pairing.

Of course not. Go ahead and post them. You don't need my permission to post another ECW circuit. It's not like I'm the ECW expert on this board. I'm sure there are a few hardcore ECW fans that view this board and just shake their head and say it is nothing like what ECW was. It'd be nice to see another perspective to ECW.

In fact, I was hoping maybe Carlzilla would try his hand at a retro ECW, since that hardcore type of style is his specialty.

Oh well. It's just for fun. Luckily, this isn't an EWR type message board where people are anal about things being "realistic." Which is funny because those people will even criticize if something is not bolded. Or if something is not in color because apparently it is hard to read black font. I guess those people have to buy special textbooks that have color font just so they can read.
