ECW Extreme Revolution
Date: January 7, 1995
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Arena: ECW Arena

[As the show begins, the camera pans around to a sold out ECW Arena and then
focuses on a man in the middle of the ring wearing glasses and a suit. The fans
chant "E-C-W" over and over until they finally quiet down long enough for the
man in the ring to begin speaking.]

Man: Hello everyone. I'm Joey Styles and this is E....C....W, Extreme
Championship Wrestling!

[The crowd breaks into another "ECW" chant.]

Joey Styles: Tonight right here in the ECW Arena, we have one hell of a show
lined up for you wrestling fans. We will see the vacant ECW World Television
Title be determined with a six man battle royal featuring Stevie Richards
[BOO!], Eddie Guerrero [BOO!], Brian Lee [BOO!], Mikey Whipwreck [POP!], Cactus
Jack [POP!!!], and "The Innovator of Violence" Tommy Dreamer! [POP!!!!!] But
that's not all. In a tag team match between The Public Enemy and the team of
Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko, there will be a special guest referee and that
man is none other than Terry Funk!

[The crowd pops for the announcement and breaks out into a "TERRY" chant.]

Joey Styles: And how can we forget the main event triangle match between Sabu
[POP!], The Sandman [POP!], and "The Franchise" Shane Douglas? [BOO!] I can
guarantee that those three men are each looking to establish themselves as the
one to beat here in ECW. In addition...

[Joey Styles cannot finish his sentence as he is interupted by Bubba Ray Dudley
and D-Von Dudley, they are The Dudley Boyz! The crowd immediately boos the two
brothers and The Dudley Boyz talk trash to the fans on their way to the ring.
Once inside the ring, Bubba Ray grabs the microphone from Joey Styles.]

Bubba Ray Dudley: Shut your mouth, Joey Styles. No one came here to South
Philly to see a broken down old fart like Terry Funk referee a tag team match
with a pathetic joke of a team like Public Enemy. You know why they don't care
Joey? It's because The Public Enemy aren't in The Dudley Boyz league. We are
the greatest tag team in the world today.

[The crowd starts a "SHUT THE FUCK UP" chant directed at Bubba Ray Dudley.]

Bubba Ray Dudley: I'll shut the fuck up once your whore slut girlfriends learn
how to lose some fucking weight. As I was saying, D-Von and I are where it's at
in professional wrestling. If anyone in this damn building wants to prove us
wrong, step up.

[Bubba Ray drops the microphone and waits along with D-Von to see if anyone
accepts the challenge. After a few moments, the crowd rises to their feet and
begin cheering because The Pitbulls are walking down to the ring. The crowd
chants for the Pitbulls as Pitbull #1 picks up the microphone D-Von dropped.]

Pitbull #1: Bubba, I have to agree with you on what you said.

[The crowd boos and Bubba nods his head and yells at the crowd that he told
them so.]

Pitbull #1: You're right that The Public Enemy are a joke of a tag team and I
hope they get taken out of ECW.

[The crowd starts to chant "TPE" as the Public Enemy are fan favorites.]

Pitbull #1: But that's where the truth ends and the bullshit starts, Bubba.
There is no way in hell that you two are the best tag team in the world. At
least not when you have The Pitbulls staring you down in the middle of this
ring.

[POP!]

Pitbull #1: So the two of us are challenging you to a match so we can show
everyone that you're full of shit and that the best tag team will be decided
not by words, but by results.

[D-Von grabs the microphone from Pitbull #1.]

D-Von Dudley: Bubba and I accept your challenge. We'll have no problem showing
all these idiots that The Pitbulls bark is louder than their bite. Ha ha!

[D-Von slams the microphone against the head of Pitbull #2 and the match is on.]

The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley) and The Pitbulls (Pitbull 1
and Pitbull 2) battled to a draw in 0:20:00.
Rating: *** 1/4

This was a hard hitting and of course, extreme match to open the show tonight.
The Dudley Boyz didn't take too kindly to The Pitbulls interupting their
interview before this match and The Pitbulls didn't appreciate The Dudley Boyz
claiming to be the best tag team in the world today. These two teams tried
everything to get one over on the other team but nothing worked. The match went
to a time limit draw at the 20 minute mark, even though the fans chanted for
five minutes more. The issues between these two teams is far from over. Also,
you'd have to believe The Public Enemy didn't appreciate these two teams
bashing them either.

Taz made Too Cold Scorpio submit to the Tazmission in 0:11:45.
Rating: ***

This match featured the high flyer in Too Cold Scorpio going up against the
promising, up and coming wrestler Taz. And wrestler is a perfect description
for someone like Taz. He's all business once he enters the ring. The master of
the suplex and the dreaded Tazmission, Taz had his way with Too Cold Scorpio in
this match, despite a few instances of offense from Too Cold Scorpio using
various foreign objects that are bound to show up in an ECW event. During this
last bout of offense from Too Cold Scorpio, he motioned to the crowd that he
was going up to the top turnbuckle instead of just doing it. That was a crucial
mistake and something Taz took advantage of as he had played possom and got
back up to his feet and surprised Too Cold Scorpio with the Tazmission. The
Tazmission was locked on in the middle of the ring on Too Cold Scorpio and with
no hope of reaching the ropes or breaking out of the hold, he submitted.

6-Man Battle Royal for the vacant ECW World Television Title:
Cactus Jack won a 6-man Battle Royal:
x Dreamer defeated Brian Lee after the Dreamer DDT in 0:19:49
x Dreamer defeated Mikey after the Dreamer DDT in 0:21:27
x Cactus defeated Dreamer after a gutwrench suplex in 0:23:16
x E. Guerrero defeated Stevie after a German suplex in 0:25:00
        x Cactus defeated E. Guerrero in 0:25:34
Rating: ****
(Cactus Jack won the ECW World Television Title.)

The first two eliminations were made by fan favorite Tommy Dreamer and it
looked as if he would go on to eliminate the rest of the competition, but
Cactus Jack stopped that from happening when he eliminated Tommy Dreamer. As
the match went on, Eddie Guerrero eliminated Stevie Richards, who did look
impressive tonight. Then, the match and the ECW World Television Title came
down to Cactus Jack and Eddie Guerrero. Thanks to a garbage can shot to Eddie
Guerrero's head, Cactus Jack is the first ECW World Television Champion.

Match with Special Referee Terry Funk:
Public Enemy (Rocco Rock and Johnny Grunge) defeated Chris Benoit and
Dean Malenko when Rocko pinned Benoit after the the Drive By in 0:18:49.
Dean Malenko tore his left triceps. He will be out for approximately 7 cards.
Rating: *** 1/4

Tough break for the tag team of Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko on two fronts.
One, they lost this competitive match to The Public Enemy. Secondly, and
probably of more concern at the moment, Dean Malenko has suffered a torn left
tricep that will keep him out of action for at least seven months.

After the match, special guest referee Terry Funk, who did a good job of being
an unbiased official for the tag team match, went to check on Dean Malenko.
Apparently, Chris Benoit didn't take too kindly to this and he attacked Terry
Funk! Chris Benoit applied what he calls the Crippler Crossface to the legend
and former NWA World Champion. Luckily, Tommy Dreamer comes to the aide of
Terry Funk as he comes rushing down to the ring with a chair. Chris Benoit
unlocks the Crippler Crossface and leaves the ring before Tommy Dreamer can
connect with a chairshot.

[WWF Intercontinental Title Match]:
Razor Ramon and Jeff Jarrett battled to a draw in 0:20:00.
Rating: ** 1/2
(Razor Ramon retained the WWF Intercontinental Title.)

The World Wrestling Federation were generous enough to allow for a WWF
Intercontinental Title match between the champion Razor Ramon and his rival
Jeff Jarrett on the first Extreme Championship Wrestling show. Apparently, the
WWF sees potential in ECW and wants to help in its development. This was an
interesting match considering the environment of ECW is completely different to
what they are used to in the WWF. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see a title
change or even a decisive winner as Razor Ramon and Jeff Jarrett went to a time
limit draw. These two will wrestle again at the 1995 Royal Rumble on January
22nd.

Triangle Match:
The Sandman defeated Shane Douglas and Sabu when Sandman pinned Douglas with
the DDT in 0:12:28.
Rating: ***

In the main event of the first ECW show, The Sandman makes a statement by
getting the pinfall victory over "The Franchise" Shane Douglas in a Triangle
Match that also featured the ever dangerous Sabu. Considering the ego of Shane
Douglas, you have to believe he won't stand for tonight's result and will look
to get even next month.

Card rating: ***

It's not a surprise that with the interest in ECW at an all time high after One Night Stand, that someone would start an ECW circuit. It just so happened to be me.

This circuit will be using Critic of the Dawn's ROH rule set for the most part. However, whether I will follow it faithfully depends on if I think it will work with what I want to happen with ECW. For the most part, the ROH rules will be interesting to use as I've only used Rick's Old School Rules to this point.

Also, from talking with Critic about this, ECW more or less followed ROH's current business model the first few years. These are monthly shows, and ECW ran big card monthly at ECW Arena (although I think ECW did run other cards during the month).

In addition, if you're a hardcore, overanalytical, oversensitive ECW fan, just remember that I'm not trying to faithfully recreate 1995. That is why you'll see D-Von Dudley before his debut and Bubba Ray without his stuttering gimmick. And I know the first ECW show was not in 1995. It'll be explained in the second show. For the most part, most of the ECW roster from 1995 will be represented. Along with a few other names.

Also, I've turned on hardcore mode, turned off disqualifications and countouts. I'm wondering, is there anything else in TNM's match settings I should tweak to make this a somewhat authentic ECW circuit. I'm just happy I remembered to turn off DQs and countouts. Otherwise, people would've seen a result with a DQ in ECW and cursed me and never read another posting of mine. :-)

Thanks.

Eric was right, it didn't take long for ECW related things to pop up on the forums ;)  I like it though.  I'm curious to see if you can capture that same ECW magic or if you'll create a whole new feel of your own.

Hmmm... I'm not sure how I feel about a draw for the opening between the Pitbulls and Dudleys.  I mean, in a way it's kind of nice because it with all the jawing they did before hand there has to be at least one return match, but I kinda feel a little cheated that I didn't have a big win in the first match of ECW.

Not surprised by a Taz win over Too Cold.  I'm not fooled by Scorpio's first match though, I imagine that if the cards fall right he could become a name in ECW in the future.

Hurrah for Cactus with the TV title.  I think I would have been pleased with anyone except Brian Lee though.  I'm thinking that Cactus will be holding onto that title for a few months at least.  Hopefully Cactus can use his TV title reign as a stepping stone into the main event in the future.

Ouch!  Malenko is out for 7 months after your very first show?  I hope you'll keep him on the roster even though he's injured, when Malenko returns at the end of summer I think he could make a big impact on his return if allowed to.  Awww Chris... say it ain't so Chris.  I want to like you, not boo you. :)

Razor vs. Jarrett for the IC title, that is old school. :D  Of course Razor wins, he can't very well drop the title at a non-WWF event.  I think the draw does a good job of building toward their PPV match that you mentioned.  Good job.  Makes sense.  After all, McMahon's whole point of sending them to ECW for a night is to put more butts in his seats :)

Sandman & Shane end it.  I was rooting for Sandman or Sabu.  Poor Sabu, left out in the cold while Sandman and Douglas are having all the fun with the pinning and what not.  He probably took a bad dive and was just laying on the outside.  Poor Sabu. :)  If Sabu was a chipmunk i'd give him a hug.

What?  No obligatory ECW catfight? ;)

oh, and booked or unbooked?

Thanks for the reply. You also deserve some credit too because I noticed in your ASWA circuit you use a secondary title, which is at odds with the ROH rules. I wanted to use the World TV Title in ECW and your use of one gave me the idea to run with it, even if it's not mentioned in the rules per se.

Anyways, the circuit is a mixed of booked and unbooked. The first card was all unbooked as I wanted to see who would win. I'm glad I did. The Sandman win will be interesting considering what rule 3.4 allows for and who I will bring in to face him.

As for The Dudley/Pitbull draw...I was contemplating to push the continue button and go for a decisive winner. Then I thought better of it. I think it's better if the issues keep going on and we don't find out who is better until later.

That brings up a question. What were the normal time limits for an ECW match? I have the setting at 7 so I wonder if I will be getting a lot of draws because of this. (I have it set at 20 minute time limits, I was thinking about pushing it up to 30 for tag team matches.)
americamamushiPosted on 06/19/05 at 04:08:30

Yeah, I like to defy Eric any chance I get ;) lol

What were the normal time limits for an ECW match?
You could always have no time limits.  After all ECW is "No rules"
Critic of the DawnPosted on 06/19/05 at 08:34:52

The one caveat to adding a secondary title from the start is that somewhere around show 35 or so the Rules will actually introduce a secondary title. Granted, that's a long way off and even I haven't gotten too close to reaching it yet, but once you get there you may be in an interesting spot as to what to do.

You could always have no time limits.  After all ECW is "No rules"
Agreed.  Even though ECW did a few of them, "time limit draw" is a phrase associated far more with Ring of Honor than with ECW.  Perhaps to get the same effect, you could have 1 hour time limits on all your matches?

Eric "Critic of the Dawn"
americamamushiPosted on 06/19/05 at 09:26:39

Then the title that gets added in the rules will be introduced as the new secondary title, bumping the current secondary to third.  Which could work since the new one could be billed as the bright and shiny new path to the main title.
