Rating: *** 3/4

Backstage: Mark Johnson is with Kurt Angle.
MJ: Kurt, last week Shane Douglas became the #1 contender to the Western States Title and it was partially because of you.
KA: Because of me? Because of me? No, it's because Tazz couldn't get the job done on his own. I mean how stupid do you have to be to not be able to get ahold of a road sign? So tonight, I'm going to teach Tazz a lesson. A lesson on how to act like a champion. Something that he has obviously forgotten. And Shane Douglas had better thank his lucky stars that he has the chance now to face me again. Because as far as I'm concerned, Shane Douglas doesn't deserve it. He has nothing I want. I already took his title, so what do I get when I beat him this time?
MJ: Well, you'd get to hold onto the title.....
KA: That's a given. But I want something more. So I asked Ted DiBiase to do something that would give me an added insentive to beat Shane Douglas one more time. And do you know what he did? He told me that this time when I beat Shane Douglas, the so-called "Franchise", that I get to take the one thing from him that no one would ever think possible: his career.
MJ: What?
KA: Mark, when I'm done with Shane Douglas at High Stakes, he won't have a title & he won't have a job. Because at High Stakes, if Shane Douglas loses, he has to retire, never to wrestle again ANYWHERE!

Matt Striker and Frankie Kazarian defeated M-N-M (Joey Matthews and Johnny Nitro) when Striker pinned Nitro with the Overdrive in 0:24:15.
Rating: *** 1/4
(Matt Striker and Frankie Kazarian retained the Western States Tag Team Title.)
[Melina interfered against Matt Striker.]
[Victoria interfered against Joey Matthews.]
[Melina interfered against Frankie Kazarian.]

After the match:
M-N-M attacked Kazarian & Striker from behind and started to beat them down. Even using the tag team title belts on the champions. Suddenly, Konnan & B.G. James ran down to save the champs. But, after M-N-M ran away, James & Konnan picked up the belts & refused to give them back to the champions. Then Kazarian & Striker started fighting with Konnan & James. The 2 teams brawled to the back.

Footage from last week is shown of Kid Kash & Lance Hoyt betaing down Edge & Rey Mysterio, Jr. and then of Hoyt defeating Ron Killings.

Lance Hoyt pinned Rey Misterio Jr. with the Blackout in 0:13:50.
Rating: ** 1/2
[Kid Kash interfered against Rey Misterio Jr..]

After the match:
Edge ran down to the ring to keep Kash & Hoyt from beating on Mysterio any further. Edge pulled Mysterio out of the ring & the 2 ecsape through the crowd, right past where Dustin Rhodes was sitting.

Backstage: Mark Johnson is with The Midnight Rider.
MJ Last week you had to face an unknown opponent, that turned out to be "Cowboy" James Storm. Are you at all worried about just who will try to collect Ted DiBiase's $50,000 bounty tonight?
MR: Mark, last week, I made "Cowboy" James Storm understand what The Midnight Rider was all about. I understood that what he was doing was about business. But I couldn't let him beat me & unmask me. Tonight, I step into that ring again against an unknown opponent. And again I will leave with this mask, and the knowledge that no one can catch The Midnight Rider.

The Rider comes to the ring & awaits his opponent. A hard rock beat plays as "The Prince of Punk" Shannon Moore comes to the ring as the next man trying to collect $50,000.

The Midnight Rider pinned Shannon Moore with the Superplex in 0:13:21.
Rating: ** 1/4

After the match:
Luther Reigns ran down to the ring and attacked The Rider. Just as Reigns started to pull the mask up, Shannon Moore dropkicked Reigns in the back & sent him stumbling. Reigns turned his attention to Moore, and got the better of the smaller man in a short brawl. This gave The Rider enough time to fix his mask & help Moore as the 2 joined forces to drive Reigns from the ring.

Footage is shown of the on going war between Raven & Steve Corino, including a promo for the upcoming War Games match at High Stakes.

Mortis pinned Steve Corino with the Flatliner in 0:13:48.
Rating: *** 3/4

After the match:
Raven & Mortis prepare to beat down Corino, as DDP runs out through the crowd & slides into the ring with a chair. He chases Raven & Mortis out of the ring until Vampire Warrior & Seven come out. DDP & Corino then escape through the crowd. But, just as The Dark Side prepares to give chase, Dustin Rhodes returns to his seat & blocks their attack with his chair. Raven & company back down slowly and eventually leave.

Shane Douglas is backstage with Mark Johnson
MJ: Shane, earlier tonight, we found out that your mathc at High Stakes with Kurt Angle will be his Western States Title versus your career.
SD: First of all, just where does Ted DiBiase get off putting my career on the line without my consent? Not that he would have had to ask me twice. I told you before Mark, I'll do anything it takes to get MY belt back. At High Stakes, Kurt Angle had better be prepared for the fight of his life. Because there's no way in Hell he'll ever make me tap out or pin me. I'm going pull out all the stops, use all the tricks I've learned over my 20 year career. Kurt Angle, you say I got lucky last week, well at High Stakes, you'll see it wasn't luck; it was destiny.

10-Man Battle Royal:
Sean O'Haire won a 10-man Battle Royal:

x O'Haire threw out Seven after the Prophecy in 0:41:25
Rating: **** 1/2
[Raven interfered against Kane.]

Kid Kash & Lance Hoyt are backstage with Mark Johnson.
MJ: Kid Kash, last week you tried to set Edge & rey Mysterio jr. on fire. What were you thinking?
KK: What was I thinking? Simple, those 2 what to concider us as a joke. Those 2 think that they're so hot. I wanted to show them that what the true meaning of hot was. But then that punk, Ron Killings just had to stick his nose in. Well, Lance here showed him real good what happens when you get involved where you're not wanted. And tonight, Edge will learn that lesson too. He had no right to stick his nose out there earlier. Just like he has no right to not give me a title shot at the Pacific Coast Title. But all that's abot to change. You see, when I beat him tonight, he'll have no choice but to put that belt on the line. And then I'll take it and no one's gonna stop me.

Edge pinned Kid Kash with the Spear in 0:14:43.
Rating: *** 3/4

Raven is backstage alone next to the walls of a steel cage.
R: "We all need... a haven. A sanctuary. A place to hide. A place to escape. A place to dream and hope. A place... where the darkness won't be so frightening. So it is written. So it shall come to pass. But for some, the darkness is a relentless enemy. It cannot be eluded. And once the darkness senses your fear; once it senses your pain, it is never far behind. Men have bled for years inside structures as the one we will meet in at High Stakes. I can empathize with these men. I can understand their futility. I can forgive their hopelessness. I feel their pain. And in just over a week at High Stakes, Corino, Page, Benoit, and Kane, you will feel their pain as well. Quote the Raven, nevermore."

Raven pinned Diamond Dallas Page with the Raven Effect in 0:05:53.
Rating: *** 1/2

Mark Johnson is backstage with Tazz.
MJ: Tazz, we heard Kurt Angle earlier tonight say that it was your fault, not his, that kept you from becoming #1 contender.
T: What Kurt Angle says & what the footage shows are 2 different things. Kurt, you should never have interfered. But, then again, I can understand why you did. You never wanted to face me at Hgh Stakes Angle because you're afraid of me. You know I can choke you out, because I've done it before. I ended your undefeated streak at the 2000 Royal Rumble when I debuted in the WWE. I punked you out in '96 in ECW because you didn't belong in the same ring with me. You still don't. Angle , it took a road sign, a weapon, to put me down last week. A weapon brought into the ring by you. Now I see what kind of man you truely are Angle. A coward that needs a weapon. I don't need a weapon Angle. These two hands are my weapons because I'm not afraid of anyone. Not you, not Douglas, no one. And after High Stakes, I don't care which one of you has the gold, I'm warning you now, I'm coming for it. And when I get into the ring with the champ, and he steps into my path of rage, he will become just another victim.

Card observations:

Another match has been added to High Stakes on June 19th:
Frankie Kazarian & Matt Striker will defend the Western States Tag Team Title against M-N-M & 3LK's B.G. James & Konnan in a TLC match. This should finally put to rest any controversy about just who the better team is.

Another match at High Stakes will be for the Pacific Coast Title. The title goes up for grabs in a 6 man elimination match featuring: Pac-Coast Champ: Edge, Rey Mysterio jr, Kid Kash, Lance Hoyt, tonight's battle royal winner: Sean O'Haire, & Ron "The Truth" Killings.

The Midnight Rider again held onto his mask after beating Shannon Moore. And then again with Moore's help after Luther Reigns attacked. People are coming out of the woodwork to try & collect the $50,000 bounty. And just where does Dustin Rhodes keep disappearing to during The Rider's matches?

Tazz says he is the first in line after High Stakes for a shot at the Western States Title & he doesn't care if Shane Douglas or Kurt Angle is champion. After tonight, Shane Douglas doesn't seem too worried about next Sunday's match with Kurt Angle or the coming challenge of Tazz. And now with his career on the line in just over a week, "The Franchise" is more dangerous thean ever.

The Dark Side is gearing up for High Stakes in a big way. Two victories tonight gives them an edge heading into War Games in just over a week. Can Corino's team rebound next week to even the score?

I must say I am surprised that this circuit doesn't have more readers and posters. The NWA:WC is the best Sports Entertainment fed I have read since snabbitt folded his promotion.

Justin's unique style of not using PbP or match description may put someone of, but I am simply intrigued by the feuds and the well-written interview segments. Kurt Angle and Raven are especially well portrayed, and I can just picture them in my head.

Well done as usual Justin!

Not to happy about the Rey/Edge partnership though... mostly because of real-life reasons, so don't think about it..
