Results of 7/22/06:

Firestorm opens up with Eric Bischoff coming to the ring.  In the ring there is a bingo hopper.  He has a huge black eye from the beating last week.

Bischoff:  Welcome to another great edition of Firestorm.  In front of me is the name of every GWF superstar.  I will reach in here and pick a name at random and they will get a shot at Owen Hart and the GWF Title.  Now without further ado...

Suddenly Big Van Vader's music hits.  The monster storms to the ring and grabs Bischoff.

Vader:  You are going to say that I am the man to get the shot.  Screw the rest of the locker room.  I beat two men last week and I put Hulk Hogan on the shelf.  You are going to give me the title shot aren't you boy!

Bischoff:  But I already said that...I mean...

Suddenly Hulk Hogan's music hits and Vader looks toward the entrance.  However from the crowd out came Kazarian.  He attacked Vader from behind.  Kazarian went for the Wave of the Future but Vader countered with a knee below the belt.  Vader then gave Kazarian a Powerbomb from the ring through the time keepers table.

Vader:  Your next Bischoff if you don't say I get the shot!

Bischoff looks scared to death when a man from the crowd enters the ring and nails Vader with an Inverted DDT.  The man has a hood on.  He leaves just as quickly as he showed up.  Vader is out in the ring.

Bischoff:  Ok...quickly...the winner is...OH MY GOD IT'S AJ STYLES!!!

AJ Styles comes out with a hooded shirt much like the man who saved Bischoff.  Styles looks at Vader and grabs the mic.

Styles:  Hey Eric, when this fat bastard wakes up tell him if he wants the shot he can face me later tonight.

BREAK

Tenay:  Well folks its official, AJ Styles is in the GWF!  Now we had announced that it would be Kazarian and Michael Shane vs. Vader and Viscera.  Well that won't be happening after what happened to Kazarian moments ago.  There you see him at ringside.  Wait a minute, what is Blitzkrieg doing?

Blitz:  Hey Kazarian, its your lucky name.  You get your shot at MY TV Title.

Blitz grabs Kazarian and rolls him into the ring.  Kazarian isn't moving at all.  Blitz takes a moment and drops an elbow.  Official Jack Doan had no choice but to count the pinfall.

Blitzkrieg defeated Kazarian after an elbow in 0:00:10.

(Blitzkrieg retained the GWF TV Title.)

Blitzkrieg:  No one can beat me.  One more win and I get my first shot at the GWF Championship.  No one can beat me.

Once again the arena goes black and we see Mankind on the video wall.

Mankind:  Blitzkrieg, it is almost time.  Next week I return but it won't be against you so don't worry.  I want you to watch what I do next week because it is just a glimpse into your future.

We go to break with Blitzkrieg shaking his head.

In the back we see Sabu, Daivari and Muhammad Hassan.  Hassan is carrying both tag titles.

Hassan:  I told you we would do it.

Sabu whispers something to Daivari.

Daivari:  Muhammad, Sabu wants to know why he can't carry his title.

Hassan:  Because I know he is beat up after what happened last week.  We have to face Taka and Funaki and I don't anything to hurt him.

They turn the corner right into Bubba Ray Dudley.

Dudley:  Well if it isn't the transitional tag team champions.

Hassan:  Transitional?

Dudley:  That's right.  Because when D-Von comes back we are going to take those titles.

Hassan:  Really?

Suddenly Hassan kicks Bubba in the gut and gives him the STO.

BREAK

Mikey Whipwreck continues to try and beat the bully Jim Neidhart but it doesn't work.  Whipwreck hit a flying crossbody for a near fall but that was the extent of his offence.  Neidhart put Whipwreck through a table and then hit a slingshot Flying Shoulderblock to finish Mikey.

No-Countout-No-DQ-Falls-Count-Anywhere Match:
Jim Neidhart pinned Mikey Whipwreck with the Flying Shoulderblock in 0:04:15.
Rating: * 1/4

After the match Neidhart continued the attack on the defenseless Whipwreck until the same man that helped Eric Bischoff earlier came out of the crowd and helped Mikey.  This time however the hood fell off and we see that it is Devon Storm.  Storm picks up Neidhart and gives him a vicious Brainbuster.  He turns and runs with security right after him.

BREAK

In the back we see Owen Hart getting ready for his match.  We then go to the ring where AJ Styles takes on Vader with the shot later on in the show on the line.

The Rocky Mountain Monster, the former GWF Champion, seems to have lost a step in the last year.  Styles, who is having his second match for the GWF, looked better then ever.  The fans were on their feet for this clash of styles, no pun intended.  Early on it was Vader using his superior size and the over 200 pound advantage to throw Styles around.  Vader missed a splash and Styles took over using some of his famous high flying moves.  He got a near fall off a springboard moonsault.  Styles went to the top for a missile dropkick but Vader moved.  Vader picked Styles up and gave him a vicious powerbomb.  Vader went up for the moonsault but took his sweet time, giving Styles just enough time to recover and move.  Styles waited for Vader to get up and timed his Asai moonsault into an inverted DDT just right for the big win.

AJ Styles pinned Big Van Vader after an Asai moonsault into an inverted DDT in           0:15:50.
Rating: *** 1/2

Styles celebrated while Vader laid motionless in the ring.

BREAK

We come back and see a dejected Vader in the back when a man walks up.

Man:  Look at you, what a shell of your former self.

Vader looks up and we see it is Harley Race.

Race:  I remember when you destroyed that crazy bastard Mick Foley.  I remember when you broke that kids neck.  What happened to that Vader?

Race slaps Vader.

Race:  What happened to the monster I knew!  You went to Vince a monster but I guess he tamed that monster.  If you want to find that monster you come with me.  If you want to continue to job to kids half your size then stay here.

Race turns and leaves.  Vader waits a second and then follows.

In the ring we see former tag team champions Taka and Funaki waiting for Hassan and Sabu.  This was a decent match but marred with interference.  Early on Daivari pulled Taka off the apron and sent him into the post.  The Triangle of Terror then worked over Funaki for several minutes.  Finally he made the tag to Taka.  Taka seemed set to win the titles when out ran Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley.  They jumped in the ring and caught Taka with 3D.  The official then called for the bell giving the match to Taka and Funaki.

Funaki and Taka Michinoku defeated Muhammad Hassan and Sabu when Michinoku defeated Sabu by disqualification in 0:11:11.

(Muhammad Hassan and Sabu retained the GWF Tag Team Titles.)
[Khosrow Daivari, Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley interfered against Taka Michinoku.]

Bubba:  Hassan, you thought it was going to be that easy?  Did you really think we are going to let you lose those titles to ANYONE but us?

D-Von:  OH TESTIFY!

Bubba:  The Dudley Boys are back boys and that is bad news for you.

In the back we see AJ Styles and Owen Hart walking to the ring on a split screen.

BREAK

In what might go down as one of if not the best match in GWF history AJ Styles and Owen Hart pulled out all the stops and gave the crowd everything they had.  Early on it was a mat battle with Owen trying to soften Styles legs up for the Sharpshooter.  Owen locked in a spinning toe hold and a figure four but Styles didn't stay in either long.  Styles came back with a quick drop toe hold into a modified STF.  Owen and Styles then went to the air.  Styles dominated with springboard clotheslines and got a near fall off a springboard flying sunset flip.  Owen however showed he could still fly with a missile dropkick and a top rope back elbow.  Owen went for a Frankensteiner but Styles countered and hit the Styles Clash for a near fall.  Styles went for the Spiral Tap but Owen moved.  Owen locked in the Sharpshooter but Styles refused to tap.  He did everything to fight the hold and even bit his own hand to not tap.  He finally got to the ropes.  Owen put Styles on the top rope and went for what looked like a top rope Frankensteiner but Styles countered it into a top rope Styles Clash and got the three count.

AJ Styles pinned Owen Hart with the Styles Clash in 0:24:08.
Rating: *****
(AJ Styles won the GWF Heavyweight Title.)

The fans were on their feet as Styles helped Owen up.  Owen looked angry at first then embraced Styles.  We go off the air with Styles holding the GWF Title high over his head.

NEWS AND NOTES:

Owen Hart has decided to leave the GWF and wrestling in general for a while to "recharge" his batteries and spend more time with his family.  The GWF Family would like to wish Owen the best of luck in the future and we hope he will return in the future.

The GWF is proud to announce that we will now have a two hour show.  That will give us a chance to spotlight even more great talent.

AJ Styles signed his contract just hours before the taping of this weeks show.  He is a great acquisition and we have faith that he will help lead us into the future.

For the first time in a long time the GWF roster is completely healthy.  Everyone has been cleared to return to action.

Signed for next week:

Jim Neidhart and Mankind will both be in action.
Taka/Funaki vs. Bubba Ray/D-Von in a tables match
Blitzkrieg vs. ????
Hulk Hogan/Michael Shane/Kazarian vs. Curt Hennig/Meng/Barbarian

What a terrific main event! I think Styles vs. Owen would have been one of the all-time classic matches. Shame we aren't getting a rematch.

Like how you are putting Harley Race back with Vader.

Good job, Geno!
