IWA:NE - NOAH Invades Reading - 05.13.06

rey619Posted on 05/27/05 at 14:38:26

[Editor's Note]: As my first ever **** CARD, this must be (ratings-wise) be my finest card ever. I'm also quite pleased with the results, and the fact that TNM overruled my booked endings and created its own... I personally think TNM is alive! This also signals the start of my IWA post-show interviews.. just like they do in RoH.. let me know if you think they are unneccessary for the show. I think they will help me write better interviews.. but we'll see..

DVD starts

We welcome you to the IWA:NE capital of the North East, Reading, Pennsylvania. Tonight, due to Jack Evans and his big mouth, six NOAH superstars will "invade" IWA:NE, engaging in a series of matches to determine who is the better promotion. But first, we go to the locker room of the Border City Patrol, where D'Amore is pacing impatiently around.

D'Amore: "Damnit, where is that no-good son of a bitch Lovett. If he doesn't show up, Petey has to cover for him, and Doug Williams will take his place in the match with Kenta Kobashi. Elza, call Lovett for me, will you?"

Elza shrugs her shoulders. "I don't have his number."
Teddy Hart snickers. "Yeah, but you DO have the numbers of half the guys in the Tri-State Area, don't you?"

Elza gives Teddy a sour look as Scott desperately tries to come up with something. He picks up his phone.

"Yes, hi.. I would like the number to.... eh... his last name is Lovett.... *covers the phone* Does somebody know his first name?"

The BCP shrugs as D'Amore yells to the person on the phone. Kevin Steen suddenly finds a letter that has slid beneath a bench.

"Hey, look at this," he says, opening the letter. "Can't make it tonight, fighting for gold in NWA Florida. Good luck. Lex"

"Now who the hell is that? And what has that got to do with us?" D'Amore yells again and his face grows red.

"Maybe it's Lex Luger," Steen suggests.

"Moron, that's just a fictional character," Hart lectures,  "What's next? Clark Kent and Lois Lane? Haha!"

The scene fades out as D'Amore hurls a cell phone into the showers.

Match 1 - KENTA vs Mikey Batts

Mikey Batts was the first to defend the IWA:NE banner, as he clashed with
NOAH youngster KENTA.

This was an intense match, as both youngsters went for high impact moves
early on. KENTA couldn't get the Falcon Arrow executed, and Batts took the
advantage to hit the COde Red for a close call. KENTA tumbled out, and Batts
flew at him with a body press. The ringside brawl turned against Batts, and
KENTA connected with the dreaded Busaiku Knee Kick. Later, in the ring,
Batts hit KENTA square on with a 450 splash. As he was going for the cover,
Jack Evans pulled the ref out of the ring. Obviously, Generation Next are
looking after their 'honorary' member, a title they bestowed upon KENTA after
he defeated Jerelle Clark right here in IWA some months back. As Evans and
Cross tried to explain their actions to ref Mitchell, Batts soared over the
ropes and nailed them both. KENTA did not take advantage of this, and when
Batts entered the ring, they continued fighting until Batts hit the Batts
Beater (kip-up frankensteiner), and rolled him up for the win.

Mikey Batts pinned KENTA with the Batts Beater in 0:12:16.
Rating: *** 3/4
[Jason Cross & Jack Evans interfered against Mikey Batts]

After the match, Jack and Jason went in there and yelled at KENTA, telling
him that he is part of their group, and that he should take advantage of
their help. KENTA stares at them incredulously and leaves while shaking his
head. Jack Evans pics up the mic.

"You know, it doesn't matter what Mr. Fuji understands or not. It doesn't even matter which side he is on. Because this show was made because of us, the IWA WORLD Tag Team Champions!"

The crowd boo them heavily, but Jack doesn't get to say anything else as Matt and Jeff Hardy storms the ring, sending them on their way. Gen Next scuttle to the back with the Hardyz in hot pursuit.

Match 2 - Border City Patrol vs B-Boy & The Spanish Announce Team

the Border City Patrol has definetely lost more matches than they've won,
espcially since they ejected Doug Williams and replaced him with Lex Lovett.
Pure Power has definetely defeated them at every chance, but would Scott
D'Amore's men succeed against (as D'Amore put it), three street thugs from
the Big Apple.
Total mayhem in the beginning, as the 'street thugs' brawled with the Canadians
(with the exception of Teddy Hart who found it more interesting to argue with
a loud-mouthed fan at ringside). Ref Stomp had absolutely no control in this
match, as nobody bothered to tag, and Scott D'Amore was more involved in the
match-up than Teddy Hart was. Petey goes down to a B-Boy Shining Wizard, but
timely intervention by Elsa Bangz (thigh still blue after Low Ki kicking her
3 weeks ago) prevented the Cross Brainbuster. Steen hits a moonsault, and
Petey follows it up with the Canadian Destroyer in a short and chaotic match
where Teddy Hart probably didn't even break out into sweat.

Border City Patrol (Kevin Steen, Petey Williams and Teddy Hart) defeated
The Spanish Announce Team (Joel Maximo and Jose Maximo) and B-Boy when
P. Williams pinned B-Boy with the Canadian Destroyer in 0:07:15.
Rating: ***

After the match, we go backstage where Cindy Strappen has finally been able to get hold of Jeff Hardy.

Cindy : "Jeff, what's going on? Why are you chasing Generation Next?"

Jeff: "I'll tell you why. Night of the Champions just came on home release.. if you haven't watched it.. you may want to know that Jack said some pretty offensive things about the whole WWE love triangle story. When Matt and I get our hands on him.. he will beg for a mercy that is not forthcoming. With that said, Matt has already been granted a singles match with Evans for next show. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a chase to continue."

Match 3 - Balls Mahoney vs Too Cold Scorpio

Balls Mahoney came out to AC/DC's Highway to Hell, in tribute to Chris Candido.
Defending NOAH's honor in this match was Too Cold Scorpio. The two engaged
in a 'trial of the stiffest punches', which Balls eventually lost when he
decided that enough was enough and tried to spinebusted Scorpio down. The
veteran rolled him up in a small package for the 2-count. The match then
continued as a wild brawl, as the two men tore down the ringside equipment,
including a cameraman and a 'Suck My Balls' sign brought by a fan.
Too Cold blocked the Nutcracker Suite, sent Balls to the ground with a power-
slam and finished him off with the 450 splash in a good showing.

Too Cold Scorpio pinned Balls Mahoney with the 450 Splash in 0:12:24.
Rating: *** 3/4

Match 4 - Jerelle Clark vs Ricky Marvin

Jerelle Clark has often been on the 'Most Wanted' list of foreign cruiser-
weights that visit IWA. It came as no surprise that he was Ricky Marvin's
opponent tonight. This was the typical spot-fest, with a lots of ranas
and headscissors. Clark has shown several times that possesses other qualities
as well, and repeated that this time as he drilled Marvin to the mat with
a pumphandle slam. Jerelle did everything to put down the Lucha star, including
the infamous 630 Senton. Marvin was resilient, and the next time Clark tried
to use speed and agiliy, he sent him down with a stiff superkick. Clark rebounded
immediately, trying for a kip-up frankensteiner similiar to the one his friend
Batts used. Marvin had obviously thought of this, and pummelled him to the
ground with a powerbomb for the victory in this great match-up.

Ricky Marvin pinned Jerelle Clark after a power bomb in 0:11:30.
Rating: **** 1/4

Match 5 - AJ Styles vs Samoa Joe

Samoa Joe and AJ Styles collide again, this time with no Round Robin hanging
over their heads.
Joe didn't give Styles time at all to perform his crazy stunts, grounding him
from the start with vicious punches and sapping his strength with deadly locks
and submission moves. It wasn't until Styles was able to bounce of the ropes
and hit an inverted DDT that the match turned somewhat. AJ followed it up,
hitting a couple of enzuigiri's to distort Joe's sense of hearing, before
connecting with a swinging neckbreaker, taking down the ref at the same
time. Styles was about to put Joe in the Styles Clash, when Jay Lethal hits
the ring, hitting the Phenomenal with the Pumphandle Power Bomb, allowing
Joe to make the pin. After the match, Joe hugged and celebrated with his
protege while spitting on the fallen Styles.

Samoa Joe pinned AJ Styles in 0:08:22.

Match 6 - the Messiah vs Mohammad Yone in a FCA match

the Messiah represented IWA in this hardcore match against NOAH's Hardcore
Champion, Mohammed Yone.
the Messiah charged Yone at once, but the puro star reversed this reckless
offense into a series of holds and locks that really wore down the Messiah.
The match really turned hardcore when they went outside, Yone slamming his
foe's head into the ring bell. As this was a FCA match, Yone tried to make
the pinfall among the crowd, but the ref had to climb the fence, and by that
time, the Messiah, bloody and beaten had kicked out. Yone punched him repeatedly
with brass knuckles, but still, the Messiah had the strength to nail him with
a Rock Bottom on the concrete.

Security had to work extra hard in this one, as the match shifted quite suddenly
from section to section among the crowd. From the looks of it, more than one
fan got a boot in the knee or an elbow in the back by accident. The craziest
spot of the night came when the Messiah draped Yone on a table on the outside,
and then leapt from the top rope, crashing right through when Yone moved.
This brough a loud 'Holy shit' chant from the crowd. Multiple weapons were
utilized in this match, which must be the most brutal one in America for quite
some time. Road signs, chairs, kendo sticks and tables were all used to inflict
pain.

The two men then brawled out of the arena, and out on the streets! Both ref
McAteer and ref Stomp ran after them, to prevent them from injuring innocents.
The bloody Messiah tried to get a moment's rest as Yone comes running after
him, throwing a bike at the Messiah. Messiah keeps running, jumping on
a bus, with Yone just behind him! The ref's are too late, and the Messiah
and Yone disappears on the road in the strangest end to a match... ever..

Falls-Count-Anywhere Match:
Mohammed Yone and The Messiah battled to a draw(?) in ???

Match 7 - Adam Flash vs Air Paris vs Mark Briscoe in a 3-way eliminaton match

3-way action here in IWA before the two main events of the evening. Air
Paris won a 5-way elimination last month, so a 3-way shouldn't be too hard,
should it?

Brilliant action in this match as well, especially when Adam Flash had Paris
in a Gory Lock, but Paris got out and simultaneously hit Mark with a superkick to
the chin. Mark proved how technical a wrestler he is, hitting a perfect Dragon
Suplex on Adam Flash, almost pinning the ex-WCW jobber. Briscoe moves on
to Paris, grounding him with an excruciating kneelock. Paris reaches the ropes,
but quickly falls to a Northern Lights suplex. Soon thereafter, Adam Flash
powerbombs Mark Briscoe to the ground, winning this 3-way dance in yet
another stellar performance on this glorious spring night.

3-Man Battle Royal:
Adam Flash won a 3-man Battle Royal:
x M. Briscoe defeated Paris after a Northern Lights suplex in 0:11:49
        x A. Flash defeated M. Briscoe after a power bomb in 0:12:41

Low Ki and a camera man is backstage. Low Ki is doing some yoga excercises, then gets up and stares into the camera.

"Tonight, I face a veteran of the Japanese Puro style. Tonight, I will prove beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I am the best of the best, the strongest of the strongest. Now that I am the champion, everyone wants a shot at me. Last show, I faced some hillbilly Canadian with a fat slob and a fat slut at ringside. By the way, Elza, how's the thigh? Next show, I will be facing my own teacher. So you see, there is no rest for a champion. In addition, I have that fanatic lunatic Christopher Daniels breathing down my neck. He has attacked me in RoH.. he has attacked me in NJPW.. I wouldn't be surprised if he attacked me on this summers NOAH tour. And why? Because he cannot handle the fact that he couldn't cope with the pressure associated with being the champion. Triple X may be dead, but its blood is on your hands, Fallen Angel, not mine. And if you interfere in my match tonight, causing me to lose my title, I will destroy you. Now get the hell out of here you worthless piece of crappy camera man before I beat the shit out of you."

Match 8 - Doug Williams vs Kenta Kobashi

Doug Williams and Kenta Kobashi were no strangers, as both are members of
the NOAH promotion. This time however, Doug represented IWA. These two
had never met in singles comptetion in Japan, and for good reason. Their
styles really didn't seem to mesh, and this match was a let down compared
to the rest of the evening. Kobashi really didn't seem that interested in
putting on a good show, and maybe his recent title loss to Takeshi Rikio
has influenced his morale. Still, Doug proved why Scott D'Amore should never
have released him, coming up with the win. This means that IWA and NOAh are
squared at 2-2 before the final match..

Doug Williams pinned Kenta Kobashi after a powerslam in 0:11:14.
Rating: ** 3/4

Backstage, Cindy Strappen spots Prime Time, and grabs hold of him for an interview.

"Prime Time, you don't have a match tonight. Are you here to make sure nothing happens between Daniels and Low Ki."

"Listen, whatever happens between them, I want no part of it. As far as I am concerned, both are to blame about what happened to Triple X, and frankly I don't care. Those two have always held me down anyway. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a title match to watch."

Match 8 - Akira Taue vs Low Ki for the IWA Heavyweight Title

Ki was determined to not let this old veteran steal away his title to Japan,
fighting his way out of an early abdominal stretch. Ki wanted to show Taue
that the Japanese weren't the only ones able to use a strong-style offense,
mercilessly attacking his chest with double-handed chops and martial arts
kicks. Ki dominated large portions of the match, but Taue showed great resilience,
kicking out of no less than TWO Ki Krushers. The champion and the title
contender then went down to the mat, exchanging submission moves as the
pace dropped significantly.

Suddenly, Taue gained a second burst, drilling Ki to the ground with a DDT
before crushing him with the Nodowa Otoshi (probably Japanese for Choke Slam).
This renewed offense saw Taue deck Ki with a Yakuza kick as well, and Ki was
seriously in danger of losing now. Fortunately for him, the rescue came from
the least expected source. Christopher Daniels ran out in dirty and ragged
clothing, and even a beard! He was intercepted by Elix Skipper, who tried to
reason with him. All Skipper got in return was a slap. Ref Ohlsson got
distracted by this, as several wrestlers, including KENTA, Marvin, the Briscoes
and Balls Mahoney went out to prevent Daniels from interrupting.

Meanwhile, Low Ki retrieves the IWA belt, smashing it on top of Taue's head
to make the pin in what was clearly match of the evening. The IWA locker
room drags Daniels away as Low Ki celebrates in the ring with his title.

Low Ki pinned Akira Taue after hitting him with the title belt in 0:23:49.
Rating: **** 3/4
(Low Ki retained the IWA Heavyweight Title.)

Final result: IWA:NE 3... Noah 2

Post-show interviews...

AJ Styles
"Joe, do you think this is over? This is not over by a longshot. You think you can bring in your protegé to help you? You can't. I want a rematch, a clean, fair fight. And if you don't want to give it to me, hell, I'll take it!

Samoa Joe and Jay Lethal
"Nice work today Jay-bird, we really taught the poster boy a valuable lesson." Lethal nods and grins. "Now if you want a rematch, AJ.. you gotta go through Lethal first. Which means there will be no rematch. And AJ, don't push me.. if we meet again.. I will make sure that next poster you're on... will be an ad for car crash victims, as your face will be crushed!"

Low Ki
"Isn't it ironic, Daniels. In your futile and desperate attempts to gain revenge on me simply for being a better wrestler, you turned the tide. Taue had me there.. I would have lost my title.. IWA would have lost the tournament. Instead, I send a clear message back to Japan. Do not... mess... with Low Ki. Homicide.. next show... you will find out that the student... has become the master."

At an out-of-place bus stop far outside Reading, the Messiah throws Yone out of the bus door, covering him on the pavement. The terrified bus driver makes the count, but Yone again kicks out. the Messiah screams out loud and hits him in the head with a trash can. This match obviously has no end, as we can see the sun come up in the horizon...

Kobashi lost to Doug Williams...Inconcieveable.

I liked the Yone/Messiah bit.

rey619Posted on 05/28/05 at 12:51:48

The funny thing is.. I had booked a Yone victory.. but TNM didn't want to end the match. Did this ever happen to someone else?

I also booked Taue and Low Ki to a double pin, but TNM decided to have Ki take his belt and whack it over Taue's head instead.

Breaking IWA:NE News !!

[Warning - This segment completely breaks kayfabe, so you are hereby warned!]

President Marc DeMei has resigned as booker. Apparently, there has been some disputes in the back as of late, and it all culminated now when NOAH invaded IWA. Originally, DeMei wanted NOAH to win, but the top stars in IWA (Ki, Daniels, Joe, Styles and Homicide - the big 5 if you will), thought this was a very bad idea. When they told 2 cold Scorpio about this, he was very surprised, as it is normally the home promotion that wins these things, even if NOAH are considerably bigger and more respected than IWA:NE. That DeMei accidentally asked for Taue while he meant Takeshi Rikio also shows that DeMei doesn't know enough about Japanese wrestling to host these interpromotional battles.

Therefore, the endings were altered.. Yone was supposed to defeat the Messiah, instead they concocted this little "neverending fight" story. The bus driver was a friend of Ki's, and the passengers were all thugs associated with Homicide. The proposed double pin ending was changed to a beltshot, and Ki and Daniels continued their feud. IWA therefore won 3-2.

DeMei was naturally enraged with this, but after a long talk with Styles and Daniels, DeMei realized that while his passion for the sport was great, and his money was good for IWA, he hadn't enough experience booking. DeMei has therefore left all booking decisions to the Big 5 (Samoa Joe, Low Ki, Fallen Angel, Homicide and AJ Styles). It is unknown if he will continue in his role as on-screen President. We will shortly be back with the news report.

IWA Newsreport - 05.20.06

The NOAH Invades Reading show was the most successful show so far in IWA's short history, drawing a crowd of over 1200. The excited crowd saw Low Ki defend his IWA Heavyweight Title in a controversial manner against Akira Taue, Samoa Joe bringing in his protegé Jay Lethal to aid him in his feud with AJ Styles, and a brutal hardcore match between Mohammed Yone and the Messiah, which never really ended.

One week from now, IWA:NE moves to Spencerport, NY, for Suburban Battle. The most anticipated match is of course the Homicide vs Low Ki match for the Heavyweight Title. Will the student become the master, as these two face each other in what promises to be a hard-hitting, no-selling match of epic proportions.

AJ Styles lost to Samoa Joe, again, but the Phenomenal one has refused to give up. Joe has told AJ that he needs to go through Jay Lethal first, and a match has been signed for the Spencerport show. Samoa Joe will have his hands full however, as he takes on the athlete who calls himself "Pound for pound, the best athlete in the world. Period." Elix Skipper.

However, neither of these matches are going to fill the main event slot. With the home video release of April's Fools Parade hitting the shelves, Matt Hardy has issued a challenge to Jack Evans. For those of you who recalled, Jack Evans cut a rap about the whole love triangle story involving Lita/Matt/Edge, and he was not very kind about it! Jack and Generation Next has accepted the challenge, and have said they will bring in another person to make it - in their own words - eXtremely more interesting. Who this person is ? Well, I guess you have to go to Spencerport or wait for the home release.

Other matches signed for next week:

- BCP vs Pure Power & B-Boy in 8-man tag action
- Christopher Daniels vs Rocky Romero
- Air Paris vs Joel Maximo

Also scheduled to appear: Mikey Batts, Jerelle Clark, UltraMantis Black, LA Park and no less than 3 mystery wrestlers, one of whom (according to the IWA office) is bound to cause a major ruckus (no pun intended in case it's actually Ruckus).
