GWF's May 2006:  Family Problems

cerberosPosted on 05/05/05 at 20:04:12

Family Problems opens up with Mick Foley coming to the ring on crutches carrying a bag.  The fans give him a standing ovation.  Foley seems legitimately touched by the response.  The first thing different is that there are camera men around the ring, taping footage for the upcoming TV show.

Foley:  Thank you.  That means a lot.  Last month I went to war and my team came up a little short.  But Muhammad Hassan and company can be assured that I will get another shot at him.

Suddenly Blitzkrieg's music starts and he comes out.

Blitz:  Mick, Mick, Mick, you are wrong.  You will NEVER get another shot at Muhammad Hassan and you will NEVER get to wrestle again.  You see I talked to your doctor and I know the severity of your injury.  Eric Bischoff and I talked and he told me why you came out here.  So just tell these fans that you are being a coward and quitting.

Foley:  You are right, my knee is pretty screwed up but no worse then some other injuries.  I don't know what that SOB Bischoff told you but I am not about to leave yet.  Because I have a few things left unfinished and your one of them.  I gave you a chance, the chance to be in the main event, a chance that I fought for nearly my whole career and you threw it away.  I don't know who talked you into this and to be honest I don't care.  I will be back and I will make you suffer like few men have had to.  Do you understand me Blitzkrieg?  DO YOU!  I WILL MAKE YOU SUFFER AND BEG FOR MERCY ONLY THERE WILL BE NO MERCY.  BECAUSE I DON'T GIVE MERCY!

At this point Mick reaches into the bag and pulls out a small black glove and puts it on.

Foley:  I have never given mercy.  Not to the Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin or The Rock.

Mick hobbles to the corner and sits down.  He reaches into the bag again and pulls out his old Mankind Mask and puts it on.

Mankind:  Hey Mom---I'm home!

Blitzkrieg just stares into the ring.  He drops the mic and heads to the back.  Mankind throws the crutches away and stumbles to the back.

Our opening match saw the New Foundation take on Demolition.  This was a good tag match with Owen doing most of the work for his team including taking a beating.  Demolition made a lot of quick tags working the "Rocket King" over.  Several times The Anvil had to make the save.  Finally Owen hit Smash with his enziguri and made the tag.  Neidhart came in and was a powerhouse.  He has been in the ring with Demolition a lot and it showed.  He even hit a dropkick on Ax.  Jim grabbed his knee and made the tag.  They nailed Smash with the old Hart Attack and then the Rocket Launcher for win.

The New Foundation (Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart) defeated Demolition (Ax and Smash) when O. Hart pinned Smash after the Rocket Launcher in 0:13:21.
Jim Neidhart injured his right knee.  He will be out for approximately 5 cards.
Rating: ** 1/2

Ax quickly pulled Smash from the ring and they went to the back.  In the ring Jim held his knee.  While Owen checked on him Muhammad Hassan, Daivari and Sabu came to the ring and attack the New Foundation.  They beat the hell out of both men.  Sabu hit the Arabian Face Buster on Owen while Daivari and Hassan beat on Neidhart's knee.  They then dumped both men from the ring unceremoniously.

Hassan:  El Dandy, get your ass out here.  I will not wait until later to get this over with.

El Dandy runs out for his shot at the Holy Grail.  Dandy faired better in this match then last month.  Dandy fired off a vicious right hand that knocked Hassan from the ring over the top.  Daivari jumped up on the apron but took the same right hand.  Dandy then hit a slingshot plancha taking both men out.  The fans were on their feet thinking they might finally see Hassan lose the title.  In the ring Dandy went for a crossbody but Hassan moved.  Hassan worked on Dandy's back setting him up for the Camel Clutch.  He locked it in but Dandy was close enough to the ropes.  Hassan went for it again but Dandy broke it up with a low blow.  Dandy locked in the Dandina Cradle but Hassan kicked out.  Dandy pulled Hassan to his feet but was hit with Hassan's Modified STO for the quick win.

Muhammad Hassan pinned El Dandy with the Modified STO in 0:13:32.
Rating: ** 1/2
(Muhammad Hassan retained the GWF Heavyweight Title.)

Hassan:  Is that the best you can do Bischoff!  THIS TITLE IS MINE FOR EVER!

Hassan throws the mic down and storms to the back.

Our next match was the first of two tag team grudge matches as Edge and Christian took on the LOD.  The fans loved both teams in this and were hot as they have been the entire show.  They loved the fact that E&C were dressed up like the LOD with face paint and their old foam shoulder pads.  Neither team really got control in this match.  As soon as they would start to work on someone they would tag.  The end came as quite quickly.  The Road Warriors tried to whip both men into each other but Christian reversed it and Edge speared Animal.  Christian ducked a clothesline from Hawk and hit the Unprettier for the win.

Edge and Christian defeated The Road Warriors (Hawk and Animal) when Christian pinned Hawk with the Unprettier in 0:13:30.

Out next came Bobby Heenan and the Monster Meng.

Heenan:  Very funny Eric, naming this show Family Problems.  Well the Heenan Family is still strong.  We might have had a few problems last week but that is because you set us up to.  Every family has problems if set up to have them.  But I am not here to talk about that.  I am here to talk about how my men Meng and Vader got screwed last month by a cocky punk named Blitzkrieg.  You screw my man and you will pay for that so get your butt out here.

Blitz comes out and is caught with a thrust kick.  Meng hit a vicious Piledriver but didn't go for the pin.  Meng threw Blitz into the corner and then locked in the Tongan Death Grip.  Blitz escaped the hold by jumping over the top rope and ripping Meng's arm in the process.  Blitz jumps into the ring and rolls Meng up with a Small Package for the win.

Blitzkrieg pinned Meng after a small package in 0:01:22.
Meng tore his left triceps. He will be out for approximately 7 cards.
Rating: * 1/2

From the back out came Vader.  Blitz tried to escape but was caught.  Vader pressed him over the top rope.  Vader then helped Meng to his feet only to give him a short clothesline.  Vader then shot Meng shoulder first into the post.  Vader rolled to the floor and grabbed a chair.  He smashed Meng's arm several times.  Heenan tried to pull Vader off only to be given a right hand.  Vader throws Heenan into the ring.  Vader goes in and is set to attack Heenan when from the back out runs Curt Hennig.  Hennig spins Vader around and gives him a series of chops and a standing dropkick that send Vader to the floor. Hennig helps Heenan to his feet as Arn and the Barbarian run out to help Heenan and Meng.  While this is happening Vader attacks Hennig from behind.

We have an impromptu match between Vader and Hennig.  Hennig faired well against the Monster working on the Rocky Mountain Monster's knee.  Hennig locked in several leg locks but Vader wouldn't stay down.  Vader came back when Hennig went for a crossbody only to be caught.  Vader went to work with a Vader attack in the corner and then a series of stiff shots.  Vader whipped Hennig into the corner chest first.  Hennig came fell back right into an inverted power bomb for the win.

Big Van Vader pinned Curt Hennig after an inverted power bomb in 0:11:07.
Rating: *** 1/2

We had second tag team grudge match between two teams of brothers.  This was a brawl from the onset and that is the way it was.  The Basham's hit their Ball and Gag Bomb, the Russian Legsweep/Clothesline combo, on D-Von but Bubba was right there and tossed Danny from the ring.  Bubba then ducked a clothesline from Doug and hit the Bubba Cutter.  D-Von got up and the Dudley's hit their back suplex/neckbreaker combo.  Danny got back in and missed a clothesline and turned around right into 3D for the win.

The Dudley Boys (Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley) defeated The Basham Brothers (Danny Basham and Doug Basham) when Bubba pinned Danny Basham after the 3D in 0:04:57.
Rating: ***

After the match the Dudley's got a table and put Danny and Doug through it with a top rope powerbomb.

The tag team champions continue to win, this time defeating the young team of Kazarian and Michael Shane.  Shane and Kazarian looked good and came close to getting the win.  They hit their Modern Art finisher but it was on the illegal Funaki.  Taka came in with a springboard crossbody and took both men out.  He then tossed Kazarian over the top and hit the Michinoku Driver on Shane for the win.

Funaki and Taka Michinoku defeated Michael Shane and Kazarian when Michinoku pinned M. Shane with the Michinoku Driver in 0:06:54.
Rating: ***
(Funaki and Taka Michinoku retained the GWF Tag Team Titles.)

The main event will tell us who main events our first TV tapings.  Would it be Hulk Hogan, the Sandman, Sabu, or one of the Heenan Family members Arn Anderson or the Barbarian?

The rules were that you could be eliminated by pinfall, submission or being thrown over the top rope to the floor.  Well it will be "Double A" Arn Anderson getting another shot at Muhammad Hassan and his GWF Heavyweight Title Shot.  The first man out was surprisingly the Immortal Hulk Hogan.  Anderson gave Hogan a vicious Spinebuster followed by a Kick of Fear from the Barbarian.  The Sandman then finished him off with a right hand sending him to the floor.  Next to fall was the Sandman at the hands of Sabu.  Arn and the Barbarian just sat back and watched as Sabu and the Sandman continued their feud.  Sabu hit a ropeflip moonsault inverted DDT and tossed the Sandman to the floor.  The Heenan Family then worked over Sabu.  They had him down and out and it seemed that Sabu was set to be eliminated when Arn grabbed the Barbarian and tossed him to the floor.  The Barbarian came back in and took Arn's head off with his Kick of Fear.  Sabu nearly got the pinfall but Arn kicked out.  Sabu went for a crossbody from the second rope but Arn floated over, hooked the trunks and got the win.

5-Man Battle Royal:
Arn Anderson won a 5-man Battle Royal:
x Sandman threw out Hogan after a punch in 0:06:18
x Sabu threw out Sandman after a ropeflip moonsault inverted DDT in                 0:07:21
x Anderson threw out Barbarian in 0:08:03
x Anderson defeated Sabu after a rollover in 0:09:40
Rating: *** 3/4

I've been so busy lately I haven't been able to leave feedback, but I have been reading the shows. HUGE stuff going on. I always like who you bring into your promotion... I'm a fan of oldschool and you always have it well represented. Hopefully you can use Hogan good because with his name being so big, he's a tough one to use in a TNM circuit. You also brought in my all time favorite tag team, Demolition. The War Games idea was a hell of an idea and only added fuel to fire of the Heenan Family. It's going to EXPLODE TONIGHT!

If Blitz didn't get himself into enough trouble at War Games by stomping on Foley's leg, he's going to be in a world of hurt when MANKIND gets ahold of him!

I was pulling for Demolition, but they can't win them all. The Anvil was definatly one of their arch rivals back in the old WWF days. He probably shouldn't be doing dropkicks anymore either.

This "Triangle of Evil" are nothing but a bunch of bullies beating on the hurt New Foundation. El Dandy almost showed them all by becoming the new World Champion and I would have loved to see it. I thought for sure Hassan would resort to cheating to get the win, but he won with the STO. I just know someone is going to take him down soon.

E&C and the LOD never fail to put on an excellent match. Blitzkrieg takes out Meng... that's a HUGE loss for the Heenan Family! Blitz is on a role as far as hurting guys... first Foley, now Meng... who's next? Then Vader starts destroying everyone including Heenan!! Heenig makes the save and the match is on! Hennig has a style that could fair pretty well against a man the size of Vader, but it would be hard to get him in the Perfect Plex. Vader was too fired up tonight, though, and put Hennig away.

The second tag team grudge match didn't last very long as the Dudleys put away the Basham's quickly. They sealed the deal by putting the Basham's through a table. I think the Dudleys are probably the top team, aside from Michinoku & Funaki, in the GWF. SPeaking of, the champs retain the gold and that makes me happy. I don't think Shane & Kazarian deserve to have the belts right now.

It was only fitting that Double A win the battle royal. I, of course, have my favorites but I was fairly sure Arn would come out on top. Only a nine minute battle royal, but it seemed like enough time. I'm surprised Hassan didn't come out and get a head start on Arn. I'm looking forward to the title match. The first TV Taping is looking like it will make a huge impact.
