IWA:NE - The One fulfills his Destiny? - 12.17.05

rey619Posted on 03/30/05 at 12:26:37

I recently discovered the downside of doing the writeups simultaneously as I am running the card... A friend popped by as I was near completion and I forgot all about it.. and then closed my browser  :(
This is why this month's card is of a somewhat different style than normal.

Nigel McGuinness and Chris Candido battled to a draw in 0:20:00.
Rating: ** 3/4

Roderick Strong defeated Teddy Hart by disqualification in 0:05:14.

Low Ki pinned Jose Maximo with the Ki Krusher in 0:08:55.
Rating: ** 1/2

K. Steen after a flying splash in 0:31:45.
Rating: *** 1/2

Number-One-Contenders-Match:
Chris Harris pinned Low Ki with the Catatonic in 0:05:26.
Rating: *** 1/4

AJ Styles pinned The Messiah with the Styles Clash in 0:08:23.
Rating: *** 1/2

Christopher Daniels pinned Samoa Joe with the Last Rites in 0:09:28.
Rating: ****
(Christopher Daniels won the IWA Heavyweight Title.)

Generation Next (Jack Evans and Jason Cross) defeated
Mikey Batts and Steve Corino when J. Evans pinned M. Batts after hitting him
with a baseball bat in 0:12:06.
Rating: *** 3/4

Match observations:

Nigel McGuinness and Chris Candido opened this show with a time-limit draw. Candido was seriously outmatched, but still asked President DeMei for an extension. DeMei told that they were on a tight schedule, and couldn't allow that. Candido then quit, effective immediately.

Something got into young Teddy Hart tonight, as he was disqualified for a series of chokeholds, culminating when Hart pushed the referee. Hart was obviously displeased and left the building shortly thereafter.

Triple X has become a major faction in IWA:NE, and tonight was a big night for them. Not only would Christopher Daniels fight Samoe Joe for the Heavyweight Title. Low-Ki would compete in a 4-man tournament for the Top Contendership, and Elix Skipper would defend the trio's honor against BCP's Petey Williams.
The night didn't start as well as they would have hoped, as the wily Canadian pinned Skipper after an enzuigiri.

Head trainer of the IWA:NE affiliate Camp Corino, Steve Corino then came out and said that his students needed some help from a great high flyer. Corino then called out Mikey Batts, and told the fans he would be assisting him for the next few weeks. Tag-Team champions Jack Evans and Jason Cross came out and ridiculed Corino's choice, saying that Batts couldn't compete with either in the high-flying division. Corino then challenged the two of them to a non-title match against himself and Batts as tonight's second main event.

Homicide has been a major player, even holding the Top Contendership for a short while. To get it back, he had to go through two guys tonight, but failed the first obstacle, the surprise debut of Chris Harris. The "Wildcat" was on fire as he not only defeated Homicide, but also Low-Ki in the top contender match. Low-Ki advanced quite easily against the returning Jose Maximo.

The Briscoes became the Top Contenders to the Tag-Team titles as they bested 3 teams in a 30-minute marathon match. The Pitbulls, BCP and D-Ray/Quartermain could not stop the brothers, who will get another shot at Generation Next in January of next year.

Styles' turn to crowd favorite was further cemented tonight, as he disposed of the Messiah after a good match. Is Styles back in the title hunt?

In what was easily the match of the day, Christopher Daniels finally fulfilled his destiny and became IWA Heavyweight Champion. It seems as losing the mantle of Triple X leader has allowed him to focus on this coveted prize, and Joe, who hasn't been the champ he was in RoH couldn't muster the strength necessary to defeat Daniels. Still, Joe showed good sportsmanship as he presented Daniels with the belt.
The celebration was cut short when Chris Harris entered the aisle, proclaiming that Daniels' reign would be a short one, as he was gunning for the title. He said he was one-half of the best tag-team in the 21st century, and that only an injury prevented him from defeating Jeff Jarrett for the TNA title.

In our second main event, Generation Next proved that they are indeed the finest tag-team in IWA. True, they needed a weapon to put Batts away, but the win was still a big one. Evans then told the Briscoes that they would never amount to anything, and that the gold around Gen Next's waists wasn't going anywhere.

Chris Candido quits on you, eh?  Shame.  He was doing pretty well.  Still, at least you didn't lose one of your top guys.

Chris Harris and Jose Maximo come to IWA:NE!  I'm really ambivalent to Maximo, but Harris makes a great upper midcarder even without James Storm backing him up.  And Harris goes over Homicide AND Low Ki in one night to earn the top contendership?  Very impressive.

New Champion!  Christopher Daniels goes the distance against Samoa Joe, defeating him in a quick 9 minute match.  Guess Joe is more suited to outlasting his opponents with his power-based offense than fighting quick matches...  And here comes Chris Harris!  I'm definately looking forward to seeing Harris against Daniels.  There's so much history you could use... very nice indeed.

Good card in spite of the style change, which didn't do much for me.  I gather it's just temporary, though, so no worries.

Don't worry.. I was just quite pissed  losing a quite long write-up.. I'll go back to the normal style next show.
May I ask how you do your write ups? Do you write them directly?

I fancied the title change, as Joe didn't go over as a champ, especially after his poor matches with Candido.

The mystery wrestler curse seems to have passed for the time being, as Harris is a credible challenger and Maximos can reunite and strengthen the tag-division.
Critic of the DawnPosted on 03/30/05 at 21:55:59

I do my writeups as I run the cards by specifying TNM to allow comments after each match.  This lets me keep my thoughts fresh, and it saves them as part of the card so they can't be lost.  I then use the HTML Tree to put everything in order, and copy and paste everything from there, adding UBB Code and announcing the matches when appropriate.  Virtually the only thing I write fresh as I post my cards are the pre-card comments and my signiture.

I've realized that I never take the time to comment on other people's circuits but I thought i'd start now. So here we go...

What a sore loser Candido is but like Eric COTD said, it could've been someone more important.

Something got into young Teddy Hart tonight, as he was disqualified for a series of chokeholds, culminating when Hart pushed the referee. Hart was obviously displeased and left the building shortly thereafter.
If Teddy Hart keeps that energy up and channels it properly, he could be a considerable contender for a title. Then again, he could pull a "Candido" and no-show next event.

Petey Williams pinned Elix Skipper after an enzuigiri in 0:06:49.

Well how often does an entire group come out on top in all their matches - there is always that 1 weak link that would screw up for a faction.

I can definitely see Steve Corino as the guy who takes the baby bird under his wing. Should be an interesting match between these four men.

Chris Harris pinned Homicide with the Catatonic in 0:05:42.

Low Ki pinned Jose Maximo with the Ki Krusher in 0:08:55.

Hmm - so Chris Harris is quite the singles guy. Guess James Storm has been holding him back all this time.

Good luck to Briscoes - if they can make it past The Pitbulls and BCP, they can totally hold their own against the champs.

Can't really see AJ as a heel so his turn to a face should be interesting.

I like the fact that you stick to real life events in your bookings. Congrats to Daniels - shows that he doesn't need Triple X to get ahead.

Poor Corino & Batts - hopefully this loss won't get Batts faith in himself down. If its any consolation, he has to realize they needed a baseball to get the win.

Should be interesting to see Maximo & Harris handle themselves without their respective tag partners.
(I could be wrong and Joel Maximo may be signed to IWA:NE - i must admit that I haven't followed it as intensely as I should)
rey619Posted on 03/31/05 at 08:13:11

The Maximo Brothers were one of the starting tag teams.. then Jose left, leaving Joel behind to fend for himself. Now, Jose has returned as a mystery wrestler. So yes, Joel is here as well (but doesn't make appearances all that often).

IWA:NE News report - January 3rd 2006

Happy new year everybody, and welcome to this year's first edition of the IWA News Report.

Christopher Daniels won the coveted Heavyweigh Title on the last show of 2005, and has already defended it against Harry Smith at a Stampede Show. Will the Fallen Angel be able to do the same against the Top Contender, Chris Harris ?

The next show will be held January 15th, in Providence, Rhode Island, and will feature the Heavyweight Title match as the main event.

The show will also feature a new top contender match, this time a 4 corner match featuring the former champion Samoa Joe, Triple X leader Low Ki and Border City Patrol strongman Doug Williams. The 4th and final entrant is yet to be decided.

What is certain is that there will be a rematch between Petey Williams and Elix Skipper. Can Prime Time even the score, or will Petey Williams go over once again?

At our November show, the Messiah insulted Lufisto, and was promptly chased out of ringside by the female posse. The insult has not been forgotten by Lufisto, who has challenged the Messiah to a Tables & Thumbtacks match. Even though management tried to prevent LuFisto from making the challenge, she would not stand down, and the match has been set. Expect bloodshed and carnage as the First Lady of Hardcore tangle with the Messiah.

The "exchange program" with NOAH continues, as none other than KENTA will be heading to Rhode Island for this show. After recommendation from Tiger Mask IV, KENTA has asked for Jerelle Clark. Expect a high-flying match of a caliber you have yet to see.

The Briscoes won a four-corner top contenders match for the Tag titles, and will face Generation Next once again. Evans and Cross have braved all challenges thrown at them so far, can they keep the belts yet another month?

Also confirmed: Mikey Batts, Carnage Crew, John Walters, Kevin Steen, AJ Styles and Homicide

On a sidenote, due to a major increase in ticket and merchandise sales, IWA:NE has decided to run 2 monthly shows, starting in February. The month will feature the First Anniversary show, as well as a show aptly called Victorious Valentine. The show will, of course, be held at Valentine's Day, so boys and girls, give your sweetheart the best gift he or she can get, a ticket to IWA:NE.
