IWA:NE - #1 Contendership Gauntlet - 10.22.05

rey619Posted on 03/12/05 at 15:35:47

Hello everyone, and welcome to Atlantic City, New Jersey! Tonight, IWA:NE champion Samoa Joe will defend his belt against Chris Candido. Six of the top guys in IWA will fight for the right to call themselves the # 1 contender. Before we go to the ring, here's a pre-taped promo of Triple X leader Christopher Daniels.

*Christopher Daniels is standing in the dark, you can barely see him due to light from the camera*

"Tonight, the Fallen Angel must fight through hellfire and brimstone to reach the common goal. The common goal of becoming the top contender for the holy relic known as the Heavyweight Belt. The Holy Trinity will stand together for this, and He will ultimately triumph. Teddy Hart, Jerelle Clark, the Messiah, AJ Styles and Homicide are all in HIS way, but as the gospel of the Fallen Angel prophesies, HE will find a way to overcome adversity, and to once again, be at the top."

*Daniels disappears as the light gets back on. Skipper and Low Ki stare after him in amusement*

Low Ki: "He's stranger then ever."
Skipper: "True *snickers*, as long as he gets the job done, though."
Low Ki: "But can he? Last month he lost to Kevin Steen. I don't know if he is fit to lead Triple X."
Skipper: "And you are?"
Low Ki: " I didn't say that. I just think he needs to get a grip on reality."
*Fade out*

Match 1 - DJ Hyde vs Mikey Batts

The weight difference in this match was almost 2:1, as the high-flying Batts took on the 300 pounder DJ Hyde.
Hyde powered Mikey down in the early goings with a couple of powerful clothesline, and at this point it didn't look like Batts would survive for long. But Billy Kidman's cousin hit back with an amazing springboard spinning leg lariat, stunning the big man. Batts showed in this match that he could be a force to be reckoned with, as he survived all the brutal punishment Hyde gave him, and countered a power bomb attempt into a sunset flip for the win in a match that went on for far too long and didn't really catch on with the audience.

Match 2 - Quartermain/D-Ray 3000 vs the Briscoes vs the Havana Pitbulls vs Carnage Crew

Another four-team tag match here tonight, where the winner would definetely be ripe for a title shot.
The match started out with Jay and Romero, treating each other to stiff kicks and punches before Romero levelled Jay with a Shining Wizard. The Carnage Crew, who took the fall last week really wanted to make a strong statement tonight, but was double teamed by the Pitbulls who took them both out with simulatenously spinning DDTs. Quartermain and D-Ray double teamed the Crew as well, making it hard, if not impossible for Loc and DeVito to rest.

One of the greatest spots in the match came when Jay hit Quartermain with a clothesline at the same time as Mark hit an enzuigiri to the back of his head. Needless to say, Buck crumbled to the canvas. It soon became clear that this match was between the Briscoes and the Pitbulls, and neither teamed pulled any shots in defeating their opponents, both team relishing the thought of a tag-title match. As a result, they only tagged in each other, frustrating the two other teams on the outside. The Crew and Buck/D-Ray took matters into their own hands, causing the match to become a chaotic scramble. The Briscoes and the Pitbulls were still going at each other, allowing D-Ray to connect with the AfroButt on DeVito, scoring yet another upset fall in these 4-corner matches.

Match 3 - Gauntlet Match # 1 - Christopher Daniels vs Teddy Hart

The two superstars shook hands before the match, both knowing that they had a hell of an obstacle to overcome if they wanted the contendership. Daniels hit Hart with every move in his arsenal in a flurry of moves unprecedented in professional wrestling, topping it off with a piledriver that sent Hart to the back with a stinging squash loss in less than 2 minutes!!

Match 4 - Gauntlet Match # 2 - Christopher Daniels vs Jerelle Clark

Clark wouldn't go down as easy as Hart, working on Daniels arms to try and disable him from doing his power moves. Clark is perhaps most known for his high-flying repertoire, but here in IWA he is perhaps known as the resident submission wrestler, and he pulled out some gruelling moves here as well, almost causing Daniels to tap out to a Dragon Sleeper. Daniels kicked out of the 630 Senton, treating Clark to a series of suplex culminating in a backslide for a slow 2 count. Daniels had the upper hand now, but out of nowhere, Clark connected with a springboard DDT for another 2 count. Daniels looked like had been in the war or something, but the Fallen Angel would just not be put down. Daniels picked Clark up and put him down with the Last Rites.

Match 5 - Gauntlet Match # 3 - Christopher Daniels vs the Messiah

Before the match, the Messiah took the microphone.

Messiah: "I have been asked, why Messiah, why did you interfere in the Hart / Homicide match? Why did you get mixed up in that feud. I'll tell you why. Cause I'm the Messiah of Hardcore, and hearing Homicide and Hart brag about how great their hardcore match a couple of months ago would be, I just decide that I would come down here to this shitty promotion and teach them a thing or two about what Hardcore is really about. I didn't intend on staying here, God knows I have more important places to be, but then all of a sudden I'm thrown into this Gauntlet match, and I though.. what the hell.. might as well hang around to kick some ass"

*the Messiah eerily stares at Daniels now, before dropping the mic and attacking the Fallen Angel as the bell rings.

Daniels looked like he was about to fall over from exhaustion any time, but as the Messiah attacked, Daniels got his second wind, unleashing a flurry of offensive moves just like with Hart. the Messiah was able to fend them off initially, but Daniels just kept on, slamming Messiah to the ground with a power bomb.
A change of tactics was necessary for the Messiah, and he brought Daniels outside of the ring, where the Hardcore wrestler was in his own domain. Daniels was quickly overwhelmed on the outside, and brought the match back in, treating the Messiah to a vicious facebuster. Daniels then ran into the ropes, going for a Yakuza kick which the Messiah blocked executing the Godsmack for the victory.

Rating:**3/4

Match 6 - Gauntlet Match # 4 - the Messiah vs AJ Styles

The winner of this match would have a longer break before facing Homicide in the final match, so this was a very vital one for both.
the Messiah tried using Daniels' tactics, attacking Styles with all he got to put him away early. Styles was more then capable of responding to the attacks, drilling Messiah to the ground with a DDT. Styles then sent Messiah into the ropes for a Discus Lariat, but the Messiah ducked so Styles knocked out ref Topanga Mitchell. the Messiah then connected with a cross body block, but no ref could count the 3. the Messiah kicked out of the Styles Clash, being one of few wrestlers who has done that. Styles got so frustrated he almost knocked ref Topanga Mitchell out, but even Styles doesn't hit girls. Instead, he blocked a Burning Hammer attempt from the Messiah and connected with a second Styles Clash to win.

Match 7 - Generation Next w/Francine vs Border City Patrol w/Elsa Bangz & Scott D'Amore for the IWA Tag-Team Belts

Generation Next dominated the first few minutes, with Strong treating Steen to his array of backbreakers. Evans and Cross continued Strong's work, nailing Petey Williams with a double enzuigiri.

It was obvious that Border City Patrol needed to tag in the big man, but blatant flirting from Francine prevented him from paying attention to the match. Elsa Bangz ran over, and the two engaged in a horrible catfight, with Scott D'Amore and the timekeeper trying to keep them away from each other. Steen was finally able to tag Williams, who cleared the ring. Francine then jumped into the ring, trying to charm Williams away from destroying her team. Williams promptly threw Francine over the ropes, eliciting a great applause from the crowd. Williams then took Cross down with the Revolution DDT, but Jack Evans made it in for the save. Evans and Cross double teamed Williams, allowing Cross to go for the 450 splash, only to have Williams pull his knees up. Ref Mitchell was distracted by Bangz and D'Amore complaining about Francine, when the same Francine entered the ring and hit Doug Williams with her stiletto heels, exacting a small measure of revenge. Kevin Steen made the save, executing the Package Piledriver on Cross, only to have Francine hit him as well with her high heels. Evans the put Cross on top of Steen for the win.

(Generation Next retained the IWA Tag-Team titles)

After the match, Jason Cross thanked Strong for helping them out, but since he and Evans won the titles in the first place, he and Evans would also be defending them from now on. Strong had no problems accepting that.

Match 8 - Chris Candido vs Samoa Joe for the IWA Heavyweight Title

Candido used a loophole in the stipulations set forth by President DeMei to earn this shot (which many felt he didn't deserve), and Samoa Joe was far from impressed by Candido's performance here today, easily overpowering him. Candido was able to mount a small offense when he made Joe fall on the turnbuckle, then taking him down with a superplex. Joe quickly regained the momentum, taking down Candido with two powerful powerbombs to put him away.

Match 9 - Gauntlet Match # 5 - AJ Styles vs Homicide

Who would be the top contender? The Phenomenal AJ Styles? Or the Notorious 187 Homicide?

Styles attacked Homicide with a series of martial arts kick, but missed the Discus lariat, allowing Homicide to connect with a shoulderbreaker. Even though still tired after his match with the Messiah, AJ pulled off a suicide dive, crashing down upon Homicide on the outside and ramming him into the guardrail. Styles then went for the Styles Clash on the outside, but was prevented from doing so when the Messiah struck him from behind.
Homicide then rolled Styles into the ring and executed the Cop Killa, only to have Styles kick out. Homicide repeated the move, this time Styles reached the ropes.

The Messiah tried to help Homicide again, but Teddy Hart emerged from the back and brawled with the Messiah on the outside, distracting Homicide and giving Styles the chance to get a 2 count with a Brain buster. Homicide decided to focus on the in-ring action instead, taking Styles down with a facebuster and then a dragon suplex to gain the top contendership. Homicide couldn't rest for long, as Hart entered the ring and attacked Homicide, sending him running from the ring. Hart then helped Styles back to his feet, shaking his hand.

Before the last match, President DeMei entered the ring.

DeMei: "Homicide.. you may be the top contender.. but that doesn't automatically mean you get a title shot. Next month, you will face the man who impressed me the most in this gauntlet.. next month you will face Christopher Daniels! And the winner of that match will face Samoa Joe in December. Now, I would like to introduce to you... Allison & Steve Corino!

*Allison Corino (aka Allison Danger) and her brother Steve went to the ring to a big applause*

Steve: "Thank you, thank you. I would just like to tell you that this week, a brand new wrestling school opened its doors here in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Camp Corino will be having try outs this week, and we will accept as many as 10 people, boys and girls. We have funding from several Indy companies along the North East, including IWA:NE. So in 6 months time, don't be surprised to see our best students here. Thank you for your time."

*Backstage, Low-Ki and Nigel McGuinness are walking through the corridors, on their way to the match*

Low-Ki: "You ready McGuinness? This is going to be totally different than anything you have experienced. This will be epic."

Nigel: "Cheers, mate. I think I will be able to hold me own, though. Nuthin' ta warry abut."

Low-KI:"Huh? OK, I'll just grab a bottle of water from my dressing room."

Low-Ki enters the Triple X dressing room, and find a bloody Fallen Angel on the floor.

Low-Ki: "Fuck, Nigel, call an ambulance! Daniels, what happened?" *Low Ki tries to shake some life into the Fallen Angel, who slowly opens his eyes*

Daniels: "It is as it was foretold. The envy and petty jealousy of those that call themselves Border City Patrol. They attacked me.. Williams.. Williams.. and the one not called Williams..."

Low-Ki: "Those bastards, McGuinness and I will take care of them."

Daniels: "No, my friend. Do not let your emotions be clouded with hatred and revenge. Prepare for your match. HE failed today, HE couldn't go through hellfire and brimstone to bring home the gold for the Holy Trinity. Now, you and the one from the Old World must bring the glory back to the Trinity."

Low-Ki *frustrated*: "I really don't like the path you're heading at Daniels. And stop calling us the Holy Trinity."

*As some paramedics enter the dressing room, Low Ki leaves for the main event.*

Match 10 - Low Ki & Nigel McGuinness vs SUWA & Ricky Marvin

What do you get if you put a Japanese, a Mexican, a European and an American in the same ring? A helluva match, that is what! SUWA and Marvin have worked together in NOAH on previous occasions, so they had the experience factor in this one.

Nigel had some problems initially with SUWA, and Low Ki had to enter illegally to help his partner out of the situation. Low Ki and SUWA then engaged in a contest to see who could take the stiffest chops. SUWA eventually tagged Marvin, so Low Ki obviously won that one. The Mexican barely escaped the Ki Krusher, before Nigel got into the ring, putting the NOAH statr in an excruciating headlock.

SUWA and Low Ki squared off again in the later part of the match, McGuinness saving Low Ki from the Triple F.
Nigel took over from here, and showed that he had lost the initial nervousness when he took everything SUWA threw at him, finishing him off with the Guvnor's Crumpet to win this epic battle!

After the match, all four participants shook hands and embraced. Hopefully, this is just the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship between IWA and NOAH.

IWA News Report : The next IWA show is to be held in Poughkeepsie, New York, November 26th.

-Last month, Homicide won the Six-man Gauntlet, winning the top contendership. Later this month, he will defend that prestigious `title` against Christopher Daniels, who beat both Teddy Hart and Jerelle Clark in the Gauntlet before he fell to the power of the Messiah.

Homicide will be doing double duty at this show, as he is teaming up with the Messiah, to face Teddy Hart and AJ Styles. Styles, whose actions last month ensured his impromptu face turn, is to be Hart's partner in what must be a decisive match to the year-long Hart / Homicide feud.

A gigantic 10-man tag match is scheduled for this show. Generation Next will team up with the Havana Pitbulls to take on the team of Clark & Batts, B-Boy, Joel Maximo and John Walters.

On his website, President DeMei said that November will see the first ever women's match in IWA. At the same time, Elsa Bangz has challenged Francine to a Bra & Panties match... we really hope DeMei never sanctions such a match..

Also scheduled to appear: IWA Heavyweight Champion Samoa Joe, Nigel McGuinness, Triple X, Doug Williams, Buck Quartermain, D-Ray 3000 & The Carnage Crew.

On another related note, Samoa Joe defended the IWA Heavyweight Title against Ian Rotten in a bloody match at a IWA:MS show this past weekend.

Also, the fine relationship with NOAH continues, as Kevin Steen, Scott D'Amore and Petey Williams are all in Japan at the end of November. The BCP will therefore not appear on the next show (with the possible exception of Doug Williams).
