CP First Encounter - 5/13/05

VertigoPosted on 03/07/05 at 00:49:53

Only one major letdown here, and you'll see what it is. Everything else, though, I could not have asked for better. The matches played out brilliantly. I tried to get the "independant" feel over, so let me know if I was successful. Enjoy the card.

Cincinnati Pro presents First Encounter
Friday, May 8, 2005
Bell Time: 8:00 p.m.
Hamilton High School Gymnasium

(The fans fill Hamilton's High School gymnasium around 7:30 p.m. and anxiously await what is sure to be a stellar first card for the brand new promotion, Cincinnati Pro. At 8:00 p.m. on the dot, CEO Russ Myers welcomes the fans to the show and encourages them to have a good time. After mentioning the concession stand and gimmick table, "Take It" by the Insane Clown Posse is heard over the speakers and Violent J & Shaggy 2 Dope, ICP, dance their way to the ring. A few 'juggalos' in the building appear to be the only ones cheering the duo. J & 2 Dope are both carrying a two liter of Faygo soda and are threatening to spray the audience with it. The fans, most of whom already don't like ICP, are backing up so as to not be covered with soda and left uncomfortable for the rest of the show. CEO Russ Myers interjects himself... )

CEO Russ Myers: Hold on, clowns! Despite how much fun YOU two may be having, I will not have you turn this place into a circus! You are here to wrestle, not to throw a party and act like a couple of lunatics! And come to think of it, there is a tag team in the back that already does not like you guys OR your music. Shaggy 2 Dope... Violent J... put the soda down and get in this ring! Mosh... Thrasher... come on out here... I'm ordering a tag team match right here, right NOW!

(Mosh and Thrasher, collectively known as the Headbangers, charge towards the ring. The crowd is on fire. Mosh slides in, blocks a punch from Violent J, and lands are roundhouse right of his own sending Violent J through the ropes. Thrasher slides, but 2 Dope catches by the arm as he gets to his feet... 2 Dope shoots Thrasher into the ropes, but Thrasher reverses it and 2 Dope is caught with a high dropkick coming off the ropes. 2 Dope hits the mat hard and slides out of the ring. The ICP are frustrated on the outside as the fans are giving them a hard time. Finally, referee Tommy Schalk is in the ring trying to get some control to start this match. The ICP gather themselves and climb on the ring apron. We're ready to start our opening contest.)

Rating: ** 3/4

Mosh didn't see too much in-ring action in this one, but he made every effort to help his parnter whenever possible. ICP did a good job of isolating Thrasher and keeping Mosh from getting any sort of offense on them. It was what some people saw as a controversial decision on referee Tommy Schalk's part as he declared a submission victory claiming Thrasher could no longer defend himself and was not responding any longer. ICP celebrated the victory with a few of the "juggalos" in the gym, but the majority of the fans were disgusted with the duo. Mosh argued a bit referee Tommy Schalk about his decision, but it was final.

(Our next match involves Christopher Nowinski and he walks towards the ring wearing a Harvard jacket and a smile on his face. A fan calls him an "asshole," in which Nowinski stops and looks at the fan... then just laughs at the comment and continues on his way to the ring. He climbs in the ring and requests a microphone.)

Christopher Nowinski: As I arrived at the building and glanced over the lineup for the evening, I saw my name next to a guy named Jinsei Shinzaki. (the fans cheer for Shinzaki). I may be a little new to professional wrestling, but I'm no fool. I mean, I DID graduate from Harvard University. How many of you have graduated from Harvard? (the fans boo) That's what I thought. I've heard plenty of stories about this Shinzaki guy... but one sticks out in my mind more than others. No, not the one about his pathetic run in WWF as Hakushi... haha. I'm talking about the story that this man is involved with the Japanese Yakuza! I'm an intelligent man. I'm not involved with gang warfare, and the Yakuza is certainly a gang. A very dangerous gang... and here's how I feel. I KNOW that I could defeat Shinzaki in a singles match, but if I were to do that, I would have the entire Yakuza on my back! I mean, my life would be endangered!! (the fans cheer) I refuse to be apart of this match...

(CEO Russ Myers walks to ringside. He demands the microphone from Nowinksi.)

CEO Russ Myers: Do not get me worked up, Nowinski! The ICP already had my blood boiling before the show even started, and now you want to come out here and refuse to wrestle? You signed a contract, therefore you are obligated to wrestle whomever you are put against! Feel free to take a walk right now, but not even a Harvard diploma could save you from the hefty lawsuit you will get!

(At that comment, smoke machines near the entranceway go off as the fans await the entrance of Jinsei Shinzaki. As he walks through the smoke, he is met with much applause and respect, while Nowinksi paces back and forth in the ring. He looks worried.)

Rating: ** 1/2

To his credit, Nowinski put up a good fight. He tried a couple of high impact moves, namely the superplex and the spinebuster slam on the gym floor, but his inexperience proved to be his biggest flaw. When he may have had Shinzaki beat, he didn't go for the cover. Shinzaki was able to use his martial arts kicks and chops to keep Nowinski from doing any significant damage and in the end he mustered up a small comeback and put Nowinski away with the Praying Powerbomb.

The winner is Jamie Noble. Time of match: 0:10:22

Jamie Noble defeated Sean O'Haire when Sean O'Haire passed out in the Trailer Hitch in 0:10:22.
Rating: ***

Jamie Noble looked really impressive in this one. The obvious size disadvantage he had did not seem to play a role in the match. O'Haire just could not seem to get ANYTHING throughout the match, but he is a tough guy and he was able to keep his shoulders from getting pinned to the mat. He continued to display his toughness at the end of the match when he absolutely refused to submit to Noble and instead, passed out in the hold prompting referee Steve Ulmer to end the match.

(Ring announcer Seth Martini introduces our special referee, tag team match. Buff Bagwell & Scott Norton, known as Vicious & Delicious, are introduced first. Buff struts to the ring and appears to be enjoying himself despite the fans booing him. Norton looks more imposing than ever and it's quite obvious he is intimidating some fans by just looking at them. Next, the hometown team of Matt Stryker and Shark Boy are introduced! The fans are on their feet for them and the two of them high five everyone in sight! When Matt Stryker gets into the ring, he gets the microphone from ring announcer Seth Martini.)

Matt Stryker: Buff Bagwell, I heard the comments you made a couple weeks ago. Something about showing ME who is in charge here? I had a feeling that you two were going to try something tricky tonight so I requested that a special guest referee be assigned to this match. I may be the man who put this promotion together, but I don't make the calls around here. That's CEO Russ Myers' job as you may have already seen tonight. I told him to get a guy who can be trusted... a guy who will call the match down the middle... and a guy who can keep things in order! So come on out Special Guest Referee...

("How Do You Like Me Now" is heard over the speakers! The crowd erupts as Hardcore Holly walks through the curtains. As he stands and looks at the crowd, Buff Bagwell staggers into the arms of Scott Norton who tries to prevent Buff from passing out. Hardcore Holly is a feared wrestler in the ring... he's made a name for himself in the WWE as being the hardest hitting competitor in recent memory. Many wrestlers who have wrestled him have went and searched for other career options. Now, he is going to be the Special Guest Referee for this tag team match! Things will definatly NOT get out of hand here...)

Rating: * 1/4

Wow! If another referee had been in charge of this match, this very well could have turned into a brawl all over the gymnasium. Hardcore Holly did his best to keep one team member in the ring at all times, but he could not prevent all the double teaming that went on. Vicious & Delicious used every bit of their 5 count before obeying to Hardcore Holly's rules. After what Buff obviously felt were two bad counts, he grabbed Hardcore Holly and shot him through the turnbuckles and into the ring post. The fans were in awe and even Norton had a look of disbelief on his face after seeing what his partner had just done. The fighting continued for a bit until Hardcore Holly called for the disqualification. His left shoulder was obviously hurting, but Holly is so tough! He slid in the ring, still favoring the shoulder, and went straight for Buff Bagwell with cruel intentions. Just as he got his hands on Buff, Norton clubbed him from behind with a sucker punch and Holly went down. Matt Stryker and Shark Boy went after Buff and Norton but they bailed out of the ring and headed to the back. Hardcore Holly rose to his feet, still holding the shoulder, and walked with Shark Boy and Matt Stryker to the back.

Mark Henry is indeed a very intimidating specimen, but Kronus had a plan. That plan... to beat the hell out of Henry with a baseball bat. It was the baseball bat that did most of the damage to Henry and wore him down enough for Kronus to nail his 450 Splash for the win.

**INTERMISSION**
(Ring announcer Seth Martini gets in the ring and plugs the concession stand, the gimmick table, and the new Cincinnati Pro Hotline before announcing a brief 10 minute intermission. Our cameras roamed the locker rooms during intermission and here is what we were able to pick-up...)

(In the "home" locker room, a contestant on SpikeTV's "The Ultimate Fighter" television show, Chris Leben is looking to make an impact in professional wrestling the same way he did on the television show. He is sitting on a bench, facing his locker, taping his fists. He looks calm. Kronus walks into the room where Leben politely congratulates Kronus on his victory. Chris Hero shakes Kronus' hand and also congratulates him. Then Hero goes back to focusing himself on tonight's main event.)

(In the hallway, Hardcore Holly is looking like a man possessed. It is apparent that he is trying to get to the "visitor" locker room where Buff Bagwell and Scott Norton are. Matt Stryker, Shark Boy, Jamie Noble, and the Headbangers are all trying to calm him down and restrain him at the same time.)

(In the "visitor" locker room, Buff Bagwell is shouting about Hardcore Holly!...
Buff Bagwell: Can you believe that guy?! Holly is a terrible referee!! I hope he regrets ever crossing paths with Vicious and Delicious! Did you see him holding his shoulder? Man, I bet when I threw him into that post... he probably broke his collarbone! Or maybe ripped some muscle or something! Either way, I hope he never shows his face around here again because if he does, Scott here is going to put a hurt on him!
.....Norton just looks at Buff wondering what is going through his head. Chris Nowinski is complaining to El Dandy about Shinzaki. El Dandy understands very little of what Nowinski is saying, but Nowinski keeps going on and on. Mike Awesome is pacing back and forth looking angry. Word has gotten around that his scheduled opponent, Marty Jannetty, never arrived at the building. Mike Awesome planned on beating someone up tonight and he'll be damned if he doesn't have the chance to do it!)

**INTERMISSION**

(Back from intermission and ring announcer Seth Martini has just announced that due to matters out of Cincinnati Pro's hands, Marty Jannetty was unable to make it to the show and therefore, his match with Mike Awesome has been canceled. As ring announcer Seth Martini begins announcing the next match, Mike Awesome power walks to the ring. He's dressed like he is ready for a match... he climbs in the ring and takes the microphone from ring announcer Seth Martini.)

Mike Awesome: No! No no no! I did NOT come all the way here just to be deprived of my match tonight! No! I am going to kick someone's ass! CEO Russ Myers... I know you're listening! If you do not find someone to wrestle me RIGHT NOW, I will find someone myself!

(After a few short moments, no one has come out to wrestle Awesome. Awesome looks extremely angry now! He threatens to beat up a few fans... but decides they're not worth it. He then makes his way towards the locker rooms with every intention of finding someone to beat up. Just as he reaches the curtains, the smoke machines go off and Awesome is engulfed in smoke! He staggers backwards out of the smoke looking like he was just hit in the face. Then, Jinsei Shinzaki steps through the smoke and begins stomping on Mike Awesome! Shinzaki is doing double duty tonight! Referee Tommy Schalk steps in between Awesome and Shinzaki. Awesome staggers into the ring and awaits Shinzaki, who looks tired from his match earlier tonight against Nowinski.)

Rating: ** 1/2
(Marty Jannetty no-showed.)

It wasn't a long match at all, but it sure as hell was brutal. Awesome was busted open after a vicious chop to his head. Shinzaki's martial arts is so devastating! Despite already being in a match only 45 minutes earlier, Shinzaki tried his hardest to overcome the fresh and hungry Mike Awesome. His efforts were thwarted by a brutal running power bomb that he just could not recover from. Awesome is beat up, but he's happy to have picked up the win.

El Dandy had every intention on taking advantage of Chris Leben in this match. He knew this was Leben's first match and he was going to break him into the world of professional wrestling as physically as he could - and he did! This match probably only spent a total of 1 minute inside of the ring... the rest was fighting on the outside of the ring. Leben incorporated many techniques from his mixed martial arts background to try to get an advantage over El Dandy, but his big break came by luck. El Dandy went for it all on a tope suicida only to land hard on the gym floor, knocking himself silly and busting his nose open in the process. Leben landed a series of punches for good measure before climbing into the ring and taking a countout victory.

(Our next match is what most of the people in attendance came to see. Referees came out to set up for the match. With them they carried a 15ft. high ladder and case filled with an undisclosed amount of money. After hanging the case high above the ring on a rope attached to the rafters of the gym, the referees left ringside as they were no longer needed. NWA:TNA stars Abyss and Jeff Hardy have both agreed on this one time only appearance for Cincinnati Pro in a rematch from NWA:TNA's pay-per-view "Against All Odds.")

A big problem in doing a rematch of this calibur is that the rematch is expected to be even better than the original. The fans expected to see a better match than the one these two had at TNA's "Against All Odds," but this one failed in comparison and the fans were very let down. A substantial amount of brawling on the outside, but no tables were used like the fans had expected. After the match ended, regardless of the fans not being responsive to the match, CEO Russ Myers came to the ring and shook both wrestlers hands and congratulated Abyss on the win. The fans clapped in respect for the wrestlers, but they were still disappointed in the match. Hopefully, Cincinnati Pro can rebound from this letdown and provide the fans with an intense Main Event!

An intense bout! Tons of near falls and saves! Otsuka used his mixed martial arts/wrestling style, Hero used his mix of puro and U.S. style, and Hayabusa used his high flying and, well, a frying pan! A clash of three different styles resulting in a great main event! A bloody Hayabusa celebrated his victory as the fans were all standing and applauding in unision. Chris Hero, hurt and tired, went up to Hayabusa and extended his hand in a show of respect. Otsuka was down in the ring and showing no signs of getting up any time soon. We feel the fans left pleased with the evenings matches... and even though the NWA:TNA Special Attraction Match was a letdown, Cincinnati Pro has more than likely appealed to many of the fans that were only at the gym to see Abyss vs. Hardy.

(Ring announcer Seth Martini thanks everyone for coming to the show. Matt Stryker, Shark Boy, and CEO Russ Myers also come out of the locker room to shake hands with the fans and thank them for coming to show. Ring announcer Seth Martini announces to everyone that Cincinnati Pro will be in Cincinnati, Ohio at the Western Hills Sports Center on Friday, June 10th. He also gives the number for the new Cincinnati Pro Hotline and encourages everyone to call it weekly for updates on upcoming events and news!)

I think you manged to capture the Indy atmosphere quit well actually, especially with all the details, such as the intermission period etc.

Hardcore Holly as the special ref? That was way cool. Considering the fact that the rulesheet specified that the losers should attack the ref, it was even cooler that TNM actually made Bagwell push Holly into the ringpost.

Abyss and Hardy was a letdown, but that wasn't a surprise. I  mean, their real life match was quite good, but their stats aren't all that bad and their size difference really makes it hard to pull of a good match. And the length didn't help either. Apart from that it was a very nice opening show.

VertigoPosted on 03/07/05 at 03:42:18

I thought Hardcore Holly would be awesome to work with in that angle... and then he got posted... I was just like "best!" because it was perfect!

I incorporated the intermission because being a new indy fed, I didn't want everything to be all big time - so in that sense, I didn't want to "cut" to promos in between matches like they do on WWE TV or TNA. It's more like it's taped for video. So I tried to build the stories through the intermission segment instead of seperate interviews to put someone over.

Hotline Update coming soon...

Cincinnati Pro Official Hotline
Updated May 28, 2005

It was only a couple weeks ago that the independant wrestling scene was shaken up just a bit more with the addition of Cincinnati Pro! What a show First Encounter was and how about all the great stories that came out of it? Let's not keep you in suspense!

- The Main Event of First Encounter was incredible! Hayabusa pinned Alexander Otsuka in a Triple Threat match to seal the victory. The odd man out, Chris Hero, has issued a challenge to Hayabusa to go one-on-one with him. After hearing the news of the challenge, Otsuka has publicly challenged BOTH Hero and Hayabusa to singles matches! Otsuka believes he could defeat both of them had they not "worked together" against him at First Encounter.

- At First Encounter, we saw WWE's very own Hardcore Holly thrown brutally into a ring post by Buff Bagwell. After waking up the next morning with substantial pain in his left shoulder, Holly decided to check into a hospital and get his shoulder X-rayed. It only appears to be a severe bruise, but mobility will be limited for a short while. Holly has sworn revenge on Buff Bagwell and Scott Norton, but for obvious reasons, we may never get the chance to see Holly get his revenge.

- Chris Leben was pleased with his victory over El Dandy at First Encounter, but has admitted that he would have preferred a pinfall or submission over a countout. He knows he still has a lot to prove and he hopes that within the next few months he will be given that opportunity.

- Mike Awesome and Sean O'Haire have announced that they will begin teaming up in Cincinnati Pro. Many would agree that with their size, strength, and speed combination, they have the possibility of being completely dominate over the tag team scene here.

- Call back sometime within the next week for an official lineup for the show scheduled for June 10th! We will be live at the Western Hill Sports Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Bell time will be 8 p.m. Thank you and remember to check the Hotline next week!
CarlzillaPosted on 03/07/05 at 12:44:48

The write up definatly captured the indy feel. I liked the card a lot. I hope you keep the fed going.

Also the hotline idea is pretty good. I wish I thought of that when I was running an indy style fed, very creative.

As far as matches go, I'm a Shinzaki fan, so it was nice seeing him win, and bad seeing him squashed by Mike Awesome (who I am also a fan of).

The fact that ICP managed to win tells me one of two things:

A) you are running a booked fed, and it has to do with the storyline.

B) you are running unbooked and need to severly depush those talentless hacks, I would suggest altering their push to somewhere around the -10 range as to accuratly reflect how often they deserve to win a match.

I also thought that using Chris Leben was very cool. He has the attitude for pro wrestling...but I'm not sure if he has the mentality for it...if that makes sense.

I'm glad the ladder match bombed...TNA is overrated and Abyss and Hardy...gag...(that's just my opinion though).

Although since you are trying to run an indy style show and that would have been one of your big draws...so it sucks in the big picture that it bombed. I hope your future big matches are much more like the main event, which was sweet.

VertigoPosted on 03/07/05 at 18:39:29

Thank you very much, Carlzilla.

I'm running unbooked - so, yeah, they kinda won on their own. Haha, I'm loving the heat ICP is getting here. Maybe I should push them since they've already gotten the most heat from you guys on this board. They make good heels simply because no one likes them and everyone hopes they lose...

Cincinnati Pro Official Hotline
Updated June 3rd, 2005

Cincinnati Pro's second show, now being called Maximum Impact, is only one week away on June 10th, at 8 p.m! We'll be bringing the action live to the Western Hills Sports Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. What a lineup we have for you for that evening!!

Seeing as Chris Hero has challenged Hayabusa after their grueling Triangle Match at First Encounter, Otsuka has gone one up and has challenged both wrestlers! After weighing his options, CEO Russ Myers has decided to have a one-night Round Robin with all three men! This means that all three wrestlers will have to wrestle TWICE on the same night! A random drawing before the show will determine who will get the break in between matches.

After the controversy surrounding the tag team match last week involving Special Guest Referee WWE's Hardcore Holly, a rematch has been signed. Vicious and Delicious will face Matt Stryker and Shark Boy, this time, with a regular referee. We'll see how things turn out in that one.

A huge 4 Corners Match is scheduled to take place! The competitors scheduled for this match are El Dandy, Marty Jannetty (if he decides to show this week), Christopher Nowinsky, and John Kronus! That's going to be wild!

Two mystery tag teams have been contacted about making an appearance for Cincinnati Pro. As of right now, I cannot say who these 4 guys are, but we'll find out next Friday night!

Two more matches! Chris Leben will do his best to overcome the very talented Jamie Noble and in a Three Way Dance, the ICP will collide with the Headbangers once again - this time, Mike Awesome & Sean O'Haire are being thrown into the mix!!

Be sure to check out the show next Friday night! Bell time is 8 p.m. at Western Hills Sports Center in Cincinnati, Ohio! Hope to see you there!
