IWA:NE - July 15th - The Hardcore Legend is here!!

rey619Posted on 02/27/05 at 15:43:22

Reading, Pennsylvania welcomes you to IWA:NE! Tonight, Samoa Joe will defend his recently won IWA Heavyweight Title against the "Phenomenal" AJ Styles!
But first, our backstage interviewer, Cindy Strappen, stands by with Goldust and nWo Sting!

Cindy: Goldust, nWo Sting, your presence here in IWA:NE has caused some controversy, especially the fact that you attacked the fan favorite, Nigel McGuinness.

nWo Sting: You see, I didn't care about Nigel McGuinness. All I cared about was that after all of these years, I could put all my critics to shame. And I was so close from doing so, but that moron McGuinness spoiled it all. So now, Nigel McGuinness. We're coming after you.

Goldust: Yes... yes...we are.. and when we do.. do you know what we will do to you? *rubs his hands together and flicks his tongue* Meeoowww

Cindy: Ewww... I don't think I wanna know..

nWo Sting: No..wait.. we're just going to beat him up the old-fashioned way.. hey.. come back here.. I'm not like him *pointing to Goldust and flashing the nWo Sign*

Match 1 - Jerelle Clark vs HC Loc

Loc in singles action this week, but his trusty partner Tony DeVito was present at ringside, and Clark often felt he had to face 1,5 wrestlers tonight. Clark is an interesting wrestler, and his strength is clearly high-flying. So when Loc was able to ground him with a series of power moves, Clark had a hard time getting into the match. Jerelle narrowly avoided a pin from a Northern Lights, and amazingly also kicked out from a pin attempt following a blatant shot to the head with a frying pan by Tony DeVito. Clark was able to gain some momentum with a reverse top rope frankensteiner followed by a russian legsweep, but the combined forces of the Carnage Crew was too strong for Clark in this one. As Loc and Clark briefly brawled on the outside, DeVito arranged a table in the ring. Loc threw Clark inside and piledrove him through the table to a loud "holy shit" chant from the crowd. Still, Clark didn't yield. He ducked a Discus lariat attempt, took DeVito out with a springboard dropkick and nailed Loc with yet another russian legsweep. He then signalled for the 630 Senton which he executed with perfect result. 1-2-3 !!

Clark didn't celebrate long, as Tony DeVito brutally ambushed him from behind. The Carnage Crew really lay a beating on Jerelle, until the Heavyweight Champion Samoa Joe ran down. Joe slid into the ring and took out DeVito with the Island Driver and Loc with a powerful spinebuster slam. As Joe surveyed the carnage, AJ Styles came down with a microphone in hand.

AJ: Well, well.. The great Samoa Joe trying to act like the good samaritan, huh? Helping the poor and desperate? I tell you something: Nobody, and I mean, nobody... can help you tonight when you fall prey to the Styles Clash. Then I will take my rightful place as Heavyweight Champion!

*AJ holds his hands out like a cross as the crowd boo him heavily. Joe motions for him to get into the ring, but AJ retreats back into the locker room.

Match 2 - Generation Next vs Batts & The SAT

Jack Evans, Jason Cross and Francine!! make their way to the ring. Evans picks up a microphone and cuts a rap.

"Yo yo yo what's up? This is Generation Next, I'm Jack Evans, I'm the boss / yet I'm no hoss / this is Jason Cross / we got ourselves a manager, please welcome Francine / and then.. we got ourselves.. a brand new Machine!! "

The masked Machine from OVW comes in and completes the IWA incarnation of Generation Next! A force to reckon in RoH, and now also a force here in IWA. The powerful Machine is a welcome addition, and the former ECW manager Francine was up to her usual shenanigans in this 6-man tag, tripping and distracting as the need arose. The ref was actually more interested in watching Francine flaunt her assets than watching the match, missing a perfect pin attempt from Jose on Cross. Generation Next tried to keep Jose in the ring, but when both were taken out by a double clothesline, every team vied for the hot tag. Of course, Francine distracted the ref, preventing him from seeing Jose tag his brother Joel. Joel had had it with Francine, and powerfully pushed her down from the apron. The infatuated ref actually disqualified Joel for this, as Generation Next attacked him from behind. The two teams brawled for a short while before the Briscoes ran out to overwhelm Gen Next, forcing Cross, Evans and Francine on the run and teaming up on poor Machine who took the brunt of the beating. The tag-team division is really heating up, 1 month prior to the big tournament.

*Outside the arena, a taxi pulls over and Christian and Chris Benoit steps out of it.*

Christian: "So this is the place, eh? Not exactly Madison Square Garden, huh?"

Benoit:"Listen, I agreed to share a cab with you to cut costs, not because I like you. So don't come here and talk shit about something you obviously don't know anything about."

Christian: "Wow.. still grumpy about losing to Hassan.. AGAIN.. are you? I wonder what part-time amateur wrestler I will face tonight. Hopefully it will be over quite soon. I mean, my peeps deserve to see me for more than 5 minutes, but I really don't want to get my hands dirty down here. It's probably mold in the showers.

*Mick Foley suddenly walks by them*

Foley: "Benoit, Christian," he greets them as he hastily walks by. "You ready for our match Christian?" he shouts back as he disappear inside.

Benoit: "Part-time amateur wrestler, eh?" Benoit grins at Christian whose eyes are wide open with shock and surprise.

Match 3 - CM Punk vs James Gibson

Both these excellent wrestlers have had a hard time winning here in IWA, and the loser would almost definetely find himself at the bottom end of the ranks.

Great technical wrestling from both these guys, trading holds and locks as they desperately try to avoid the humiliation of yet another defeat. The Philadelphia crowd relishes clean, technical wrestling, and even though Punk was the "good guy" here, even Gibson was applauded for his efforts. At the 17-minute mark, Gibson starts getting the upper hand. He almost puts Punk away with a tiger driver, and keeps up the momentum with an electric chair drop and a superplex. Punk wouldn't surrender that easily though, taking Gibson down with a bulldog. He then pulled him up to the turnbuckle, executing the Pepsi Plunge for the win.

Match 4 - Teddy Hart vs Homicide

Would the Hart / Homicide feud come to an end here tonight? Candido was not scheduled to be at this show, and Punk was too tired after his grueling match to have any impact at all on the match.

The match quickly turned into a street brawl, as Homicide and Hart hit and choked each other with chairs, ring bells and wires laying around the ring. The match ends up in the ring again, where Hart misses the Triple Bypass (Shooting Star Legdrop), and Homicide starts choking him with the ropes. Ref George Mandelbaum (big 250 lbs guy) tears Homicide away from the ropes. Homicide tries to push the ref down, but big George pushes him back, allowing Teddy Hart to lock on a Fujiwara armbar. Homicide reaches the ropes, but before he can get his bearings back, Hart climbs to the top turnbuckle and hits the Hart Attack for the win.
Teddy didn't stop it there, dragging Homicide out to the floor and knocking him repeatedly into the ring steps, busting him open. Homicide was bleeding like a faucet when CM Punk ran in, telling Hart that he had won the match, and that this was unneccessary. Hart snapped out of it, leaving without a word. CM tried to help Homicide to his feet, but he just slapped Punk away.

*Cindy Strappen stands by with Jimmy Jacobs*

Cindy: Last month, you revealed that the appearance of Sinn was just a ruse, a scheme of yours to give you attention and matches here in IWA. Now, you are facing Sinn later tonight. Your thoughts?

Jacobs: Well, you know how ungrateful some people can be. I gave Sinn exposure here in the Northeast, the wrestling Mecca of the US. I paid for his admission to the shows. Do I get thanks for that? No.

Cindy: He claims you promised him a match here.

Jacobs: He is obviously delusional. If what he wants is a humiliating defeat to the HUSS! then that is what he'll get. You hear me Sinn?! You are just a stepping stone on my way to glory!

Match 5 - Outkast Killahz vs Briscoe Brothers

Yet another fine tag-team match here in IWA. The Killahz were fresh from a Hardcore win vs Necro Butcher and DJ Hyde from last week, and a win here would guarantee a spot in next month's tournament. A fast-paced back and forth match where the Briscoes slowly gained the upper hand. Jay showed strength when he belly-to-belly superplexed Santiago, sending him halfway across the ring. They keep Santiago in the ring, and performs the Briscoe Bomb for the win. Tortuga tried to gain some revenge by attacking the Briscoes from behind, but they soon overwhelmed him and Briscoe Bombed him as well.

Jay: "Next month, IWA will see the crowning of the very first tag-team champions. Carnage Crew, Outkast Losers, Generation Ass, SAT.. whoever is sent our way.. we will beat them. We will become IWA Tag-Team Champions! Thank you, Reading Pennsylvania!!

Match 6 - Jimmy Jacobs vs Sinn

Sinn opened the match offensively, nailing Jacobs with a thrust to the throat and continuing with several choke maneouvers, trying to hamper Jacobs' ability to breathe.
Jacobs couldn't get a single move in, as Sinn power bombed Jacobs into oblivion. Jacobs slowly gained a momentum, dizzying Sinn with a spinning headscissors and a blockbuster. Jacobs went high-risk, missing badly with a Shooting Star Press. Sinn covered Jacobs for the win!

Match 7 - The Purists (C. Benoit & N. McGuinness) vs The Painted Protagonists (nWo Sting & Goldust)

Interesting names for these one-night tag teams (presumably). As last month, IWA must have spent half their budget on Goldust's entrance, with pyros and smoke filling the arena.

Goldust and McGuinness set things off with a series of submission holds. Goldust doesn't try to get away from it using conventional standards, instead trying to grab a feel here and there on Nigel, causing him to let go. Nigel then tries to put him in a headscissors submission hold, only to discover that Goldust's head is way to close to a certain part of the body. Nigel gives up for now, and tags in Benoit. The Rabid Wolverine clears the house of both Sting and Goldust. Goldust sneaks up behind Nigel on the outside, taking him out with a series of hard punches before he rams him into the ringsteps. Ref Mandelbaum tries to break it up, and Benoit drags nWo Sting back into the ring, only to have his eyes covered with a vile-looking substance spewed from nWo Sting, certainly a trick he picked up in Japan. nWo Sting connects with the Diving Clothesline on a blinded Benoit for the shock win!

Match 8 - Christian vs Mick Foley

Mick Foley got by far the largest pop of the night as he made his way down the aisle.

Christian was able to quickly gain the momentum from an early powerslam followed by a dropkick. Foley turned the tide with a bodyslam, before he tossed Captain Charisma out of the ring and jumped on him with an elbowdrop from the apron. Vintage Foley. The two brawled on the outside for quite some time, Foley sending Christian to the ground with a faceslam. Foley even tried to send his opponent through a table with a double-arm DDT, but Christian blocked it. The Hardcore Legend then produced a set of brass knuckles, busting Christian open with them. Foley was dead-set on bringing some real Hardcore action to these IWA fans, who were reportedly let down by last month's bout including Necro Butcher. Foley should've stayed outside in his own domain, as he was taken down by a Swinging neckbreaker inside the ring. Christian then mocked Foley by "reaching for Socko", before executing the Unprettier for the very unpopular win.

*Christian heads backstage after his win, wiping off the blood with a towel. Chris Benoit angrily walks by him*

Christian: "Hey Chris, how did your match go?" *Christian snickers*

*Benoit turns around, and without saying a word tackles Christian to the ground and pummels him before clasping on the Crossface. Christian taps out, and Benoit releases him, then walks angrily away. Christian coughs up some blood before turning to Benoit who is disappearing down a corridor*

Christian: "Hey, wanna share a cab to the airport?"

Match 9 - IWA Heavyweight Title Match - Samoa Joe vs AJ Styles

Joe powered down Styles in the beginning of this match, showing AJ that he should really pull out every move in his arsenal if he was to win the title. That's exactly what AJ did, hitting Samoa with an asai moonsault into inverted DDT for a close call in the early goings. The two men then began a chopping war, with AJ destined to lose. Joe followed up with an Aztecan suplex for a 2.999 count. The real turning point came when the two men tumbled to the outside, and Joe tombstoned Styles on the outside. Joe continued the onslaught inside the ring with a double underhook faceslam and the Island Driver to retain the title.

IWA:NE - Newsletter - July 30th 2005

Next month, on August 10th, IWA will crown their first ever tag-team champions in an 8 team tournament. The brackets are still not clear, but the following teams are booked. the Briscoe Brothers, the Outkast Killahz, Carnage Crew, the SAT and Generation Next (probably Cross & Evans, but you never know). In addition, Eddie Guerrero will team up with indy veteran Slash Venom in a bid for the tag-team titles. It is rumored that Chris Benoit was quite upset with Nigel McGuinness after their loss against Goldust and nWo Sting, but the Rabid Wolverine has given McGuinness a second chance. Also, the foreign team rumored to be involved in this competition is no other than Jyushin Lyger and Tiger Mask IV!

Samoa Joe was successful in his first title defense against AJ Styles. Styles is not scheduled for this show, but Randy Orton is, and the self-proclaimed Legend Killer will go one on one with Samoa Joe for the IWA:NE Heavyweight Title.

What will happen in the Teddy Hart vs Homicide feud? Hart left Homicide in a bloody pulp earlier this month. Will Homicide try to exact revenge? Or is this feud over? Time will tell.

CM Punk and James Gibson have agreed to work on a tour with NOAH this fall, and will not be appearing in IWA for a while. Jimmy Jacobs has also sent in his notice, and will concentrate about his RoH work and his non-wrestling career. We wish the best of luck to them all.

On another sad note, it appears as if the WWE is starting to withdraw its support to IWA. Expect to see fewer and fewer guest appearances from these stars. Due to the relative few amount of dates, TNA haven't voiced a concern as of yet, which led the IWA management to hire "the Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels to a 1-year contract! Expect Daniels to make an appearance on next months show.

That's all for now
