IWA:NE - Giving Appreciation

rey619Posted on 02/15/05 at 13:58:13

The date is April 6th, the venue is Rack's Bar & Billiards in
Dover, DE, and IWA: NE is holding their third show in front of a sell out crowd of 250.

Match 1 - Tony DeVito/Rhyno vs Generation Next vs Briscoe Bros

DeVito teaming up with Rhyno for the night due to HC Loc's unfortunate skiing accident in Aspen recently. The new duo faced off against the feuding Briscoes and Gen Next in yet another fantastic tag match here in IWA. The Briscoes were still looking for their first win against Generation Next, but Evans and Jason Cross was in good shape today, taking down the Briscoes with high-speed moves, trying to avoid a confrontation with the bigger men in the third corner. Evans thought of an even better idea.. why not let these two men manhandle the Briscoes? And manhandle they did, Rhyno nailing Mark with a power bomb, and DeVito superplexing Jay off the top rope. As last month, causing the Briscoes to lose was more important then winning themselves. Finally, Evans found himself in the ring alone with Rhyno, but quickly tagged Cross, sending out his "heavy hitter" to face the man-beast. Cross takes a helluva beating, before he manages to low blow Rhyno and take him down with a neckbreaker. Meanwhile, Evans climbs the ropes and performs the 630 Corkscrew to win! Generation Next is really one of the most dominating tag-teams here in IWA:NE.

(HC Loc no-showed)

Jimmy Jacobs walks to the ring with his fuzzy boots and grabs a mic. "So, have you missed me, heh? The management didn't book me last show because, well, frankly they don't have anyone talented enough to face the future "Franchise" of Wrestling. In a few years time, people will forget all about Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold and the Rock. All they will remember is Jimmy Jacobs. It will be... Jacobmania! Now, I just came here tonight to tell you that, since I don't have an opponent tonight either.

("Whatever" sounds on the somewhat lousy sound system, and Chris Benoit makes his way out to a thunderous applaud.)

Chris Benoit: Not the talent, heh? Well, do you consider a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion good enough for you? Someone who went through 29 other men to win the Royal Rumble? Who made Triple H tap out at Wrestlemania XX?

(Jimmy Jacobs turn around to leave, but quickly turns back and nails Benoit with the microphone. He starts beating on Benoit while a ref runs in and starts an impromptu match)

Match 2 - Chris Benoit vs Jimmy Jacobs

The only one not happy about this guest appearance by WWE star Benoit was, of course, Jacobs himself. Still, he knew that if he somehow could defeat Benoit, something far greater than the Indies could await him.
In fact, Jacobs controlled the early goings of this match, until Benoit got a hold of Jacobs, sending him down to the mat with several suplex variants, even clasping on a figure four for good measure. No strangers to submission hold, Jacobs treated Benoit with a couple of his own. Benoit took down Jacobs with german suplexes and went for the flying headbutt when Jacobs got up and out of nowhere hit the Contra Code for the upset win here tonight! Benoit and Jacobs shook hands after the match.

As Jacobs is on his way out of the ring, someone jumps the barricades and extends his hand as well. It's Sinn of the Disciples of the New Church. Jacobs hurriedly retreats the other way, while Sinn angrily shouts "You owe me" over and over again at Jacobs.

Match 3 - Randy Orton vs CM Punk vs DJ Hyde
A lot of people expressed a wish to fight Randy Orton today, Samoa Joe in particular, but the booking committee postponed their meeting, instead booking Orton against Punk and Hyde, neither of which have any love lost for Orton.

Hyde and Punk understandably "teamed" together against Orton in this match, and made it difficult for the Legend Killer to get the upper hand. Of course, alliances are very fluid in 3- or 4 way dances, and it didn't take long before Punk and Hyde were at it as well. Suddenly, Orton and Hyde started to team up on Punk, stomping away on him while Orton clapped Hyde on the shoulders in a friendly manner. It appears as if Orton's saved some money from WWE to pay for some hired services. How long Hyde will stay his "bodyguard" is uncertain, as Orton caught Hyde off guard with a powerslam to win and to keep his unbeaten record here in IWA: NE.

Match 4 - AJ Styles vs Teddy Hart
Teddy Hart has burned bridges with almost every other US promotion, but actually turned up here tonight and behaved! Styles was also one that rooted for a match with Orton, but instead he got Teddy Hart, who has been signed to a 1-year contract in IWA:NE.

This was a fast and explosive match. Styles missed an early springboard shooting star bodyblock dive, which allowed Hart to take the upper advantage until he himself missed a moonsault. Styles quickly took advantage, hitting the Canadian with two Splash Mountains. Ref Jimmy Castle was knocked out twice in this match (one was legit!), showing how intense and unplanned this bout was. Hart wins this one after hitting two Triple Bypasses and one Hart Attack. Hart looked awfully dizzy after the match..

Match 4 - Jimmy Rave & Necro Butcher vs Outkast Killahz

Jimmy Rave was beat down by the Killahz two months ago, and had returned with a partner of choice for a revenge match. Unfortunately for Diablo and Oman, Jimmy had chosen the most violent deathmatch worker the last years in Necro Butcher!
Necro Butcher was at his best behaviour today, something the Killahz can be happy for. Still waiting for their first win, Tortuga and Santiago used every trick in the book to keep Butcher out of the ring, often provoking Necro into the ring, causing the ref to turn his back to their illegal shenanigans. Finally,  Necro Butched has had enough, pushing away the ref and attacking the Killahz.. the match ended up on the outside in a veritable brawl which ended in a quite disappointing double countout. The fans weren't too receptive of Necro Butcher, shouting "Don't Come Back" at him as they brawled backstage.

Marc DeMei announced that the main event would be a tag team match between RoH Champion Austin Aries&Jerelle Clark and the SAT's, widely regarded as the best tag-team in IWA.

Match 6 - Eddie Guerrero vs Chris Candido

Candido was accompanied by Tammy Lynn Sytch (a little heavier than before), who angered the crowd by saying:
"I may be heavier and less good-looking than I used to, but I'm ten times as beautiful as anyone in this crappy state!"

An even match between two "heavyweights of small stature", with several near falls from both men. The decibel level in the pub was by far the greatest at this time, even prompting the pool sharks in the back to take a quick break to take in the great technical action in the ring. Eddie was up to his own "lie, cheat and steal" routine, stealing a grasp of Tammy's ass, lying about it to Candido  and the giving him an eye poke. Candido can't see, and Eddie takes him down with a Thesz Press to win the match.

Match 7 - James Gibson vs Samoa Joe vs Mikey Batts vs Nigel McGuinness

No alliances in this match, as Batts surprisingly takes on Samoa Joe in a test of strength (and loses), and Gibson and McGuinness trade hold and mat-based submission holds, only to have them broken up by Joe every time someone gets close to submitting.  Gibson tries to persuade Batts and McGuinness to take out Samoa Joe, but they instead deck Gibson with a double clothesline, before they in turn are taken down by lariats from Joe. Great action here in this four-way!
The time expired at 35 minutes, but the crowd chanted "We want more!" over and over again, and the ref continued the match. Gibson tried to surprise Batts with a roll-up, but Billy Kidman's cousin kicked out, just to be taken down by the Guvnor's Crumpet! Nigel McGuinness picks up this one!

Marc DeMei comes out with a briefcase and displays the IWA:NE Heavyweight Title, which will be decided in a tournament next week. DeMei wouldn't disclose all the participants tonight, but said that Orton, Samoa Joe, Gibson, Hart, Styles, Punk and of course, Jimmy Jacobs would be invovled.

Match 8 - Austin Aries & Jerelle Clark vs The Spanish Announce Team

Aries returned once again to IWA: NE, this time expressing a wish to team up with Clark to face a tag-team. Both Aries and Clark perform the 450 Splash, but could they do that and pin the SAT's, still undefeated here in IWA?

An even main event, where the lack of experience as a tag-team were not so obvious as you'd think. The Maximos were not intimidated by the RoH champ, nailing him from every angle at every chance they got, trying to get away from his multiple submission moves. Even though he was somewhat of a pushover in the beginning, Clark fought back at the SAT's, hitting them both with an incredible Skytwister press. Aries was actually drowned out by all the spots by the three crazy men, opting instead for pinning combinations and cradles in trying to win this match. As the match drew close to an end, the Spanish Announce Team hit several pinning moves on Aries as well, keeping the RoH champ on his toes. A loss in tag-team action was one thing, being pinned would be a disaster. Aries therefore tags Clark, and ironically enough, the match ends when the high-flyer Clark makes Joel tap out! A brilliant match to end a great night for IWA: NE.

Card Rating: ***1/2

A great card here in Dover, with only the abysmal tag-team match and a somewhat disappointing Jacobs vs Benoit match to draw it down.

See ya in a month!

IWA: NE Announcement

- As earlier mentioned, the May 20th show will feature the first two rounds of the IWA: NE Hevyweight Title Tournament. The show will take place in Garfield, New Jersey.

- IWA:NE mainstays Eddie Guerrero, Randy Orton, James Gibson, AJ Styles, Mikey Batts, Jerelle Clark, Samoa Joe, DJ Hyde, CM Punk, Teddy Hart and James Jacobs are already confirmed participants in this 16-man tournament.

- In addition, 5 guest stars will be brought in, and a strong rumor suggests that 2 UK stars will be among them. A number of FWA and UK Indy wrestlers are touring the Northeast about this time, and it would make sense to bring a couple of them in to participate in tournament.

- Only one of the tournament's matches has been revealed. In the opening match, Samoa Joe will finally get his hands on the Indy-hating Randy Orton. Will Joe beat some sense into Orton? Or will Orton continue his march to stardom here in IWA:NE?

- It is quite surprising not to see Nigel McGuinness among the names listed, considering he won the prestigious four-corners match last show. Hopefully, Nigel won't be too angry.
