***The following is a message from the President***

Good evening my fellow Americans.
My name is Verne Gagne and I welcome you to the first episode of the American Wrestling Association's "Giants of Wrestling" on the ABC Network.
Every week you will be treated to the best that wrestling has to offer.
Each week the AWA will bring you such fan favorites as Greg Gagne, Sgt. Slaughter, Rick Martel, and the Rockers, Shawn Michaels and .... Marty Jannetty.
You will also see such rule-breakers as Nick Bockwinkel, Larry Zbyszko, General Skandar Akbar, Curt Hennig, Stan Hansen and the Sheik.

For those of you new to the AWA, I will provide a brief run down of the federation.
Currently the AWA has 5 titles wrestlers compete for.
They are the World Heavyweight Title, held by "Slick" Nick Bockwinkel.
The AWA International Television Title, held by my son, Greg Gagne.
The America's Title, worn proudly by the defender of freedom, Sgt. Slaughter.
The AWA World Tag Team Titles held by Wayne Bloom and Mike Enos, the Destruction Crew.
And the newly created AWA Legends Title, won in a recent Battle Royal by The Sheik.

The AWA Championship Committee oversees the various titles and ranks the top contenders to each belt. The Championship Committee also levies fines and suspensions for any rule breaking that might occur.
The Committee at this time consists of myself, the acting President of the AWA. Eric Bischoff, associate Vice President, Stanley Blackburn, associate Vice President, and representing the various wrestlers, managers, tag teams, and Legends on the Committee: Ray Stevens, Skandar Akbar, Sgt. Slaughter, Sherri Martel, and Dick the Bruiser.

We look forward to coming into your home, each and every week.
Stay tuned and enjoy the first episode of AWA's "Giants of Wrestling."
Thank you and may God bless the American Wrestling Association.

Diamond Dallas Page's Diamond Mine

Hosted by Diamond Dallas Page

DDP: "Self High Five! My guest this week is a man who needs no introduction. He is a second generation superstar, having learned from one of the best wrestling minds in the business! He is a former tag team champion with my main man behind me, Scott Hall!"

(DDP and Hall high five each other)

DDP: "This man is the origina...."

(Curt and Larry Hennig walk out and cut off DDP)

L. Hennig: "Enough talk from you Page, we have business to attend to! We know how wonderful you think my boy is! I have requested a championship match between my son Curt and that scrawny, low life, piece of garbage Greg Gagne for 4 months now, and they have yet to grant him one! And we all know why! Nepotism! Favoritism! Verne Gagne, you chickensh—"

C. Hennig: "Easy, dad! Look, Greg, we both know that your father is trying his hardest to protect you to save the family legacy. You are nothing without your father on the Championship Committee, and you are nothing more than a fraud. A fraud holding a very desirable championship!"

(Larry paces back and forth on the set while Curt continues)

C. Hennig: "Verne, Greg, while you two are pretending that you deserve that belt, I'm growing tired. I'm getting restless. My contract is up for renewal and my phone is ringing off the hook! New York! Atlanta! Japan! Places where I can get a fair shake!"

DDP: "Curt, brother, you wouldn't think of cuttin' out now, would you?"

C. Hennig: "Page, all I'm saying is I've got nothing to lose! Greg Gagne, we have an announcement to make! Listen up closely!"

L. Hennig: "Greg Gagne, Verne Gagne, the deal is this: The time for closed door requests is over! We publicly challenge you to a best of 5 series for the International Television Title! And we're so confident in Curt, he'll leave the AWA forever if he fails! So what's it gonna be Verne...Greg....what's it gonna be...."

(Curt spits out his gum and bats it into the crowd)
(Scott Hall shakes his head approvingly)
(DDP laughs and slaps Larry Hennig on the back. Larry wheels around and glares at him.)

DDP: "That's it Gagne, say goodbye to that title, and Verne, (laughing) man, brother, you got called out, old dude! Larry, you finally said what everyone's been saying in the back! Just earlier Scott said the same thing, practically! Right, 'Diamond Studd'?

(Hall stops smiling and quickly shakes his head "No.")

DDP: "Dude, quit clowning around, you just finished saying..."

(The Hennigs walk off the set)

DDP: "just finished saying Greg's arms are smaller than the toothpick in your mouth!" (laughs hysterically) I hate to tell those two, but I got Greg tonight, and that belt is coming home to the Diamond Mine, tonight! Anyway, this has been DDP's Diamond Mine...GOOD GAWD!

Snabbit888Posted on 02/16/05 at 22:17:03

Very cool first card.  It'll take me a little bit to get completely into because truthfully, the more old school wrestlers don't generally tickle my fancy, but you have a very cool setup here.  Here's hoping Hennig beats Gagne, and cool to see Vader coming next week.

The only things that I didn't really like are more cosmetic things.  Stuff like the card being called "Week 1" with no mm/dd/yy style date attached to it.  But that's just more my personal preference and not a knock on the product.  It'll take a little work for me to be completely sold on the old school stuff, but I'll be reading.  Good job.
WalkingCondominiumPosted on 02/16/05 at 22:25:27

Well, old school is my school  ;) And these are the performers I know well, and they didn't have established personalities so I can fudge them around a bit. Verne had very bland personalities, and I thought I'd give it a go.

I forgot to assign a date in the title but remedied that now. As far as 'cosmetics' go, what else didn't you like? Just curious.

Thanks for reading and the feedback!

Snabbit888Posted on 02/16/05 at 22:32:30

It's my thought that all of the matches, even if they're a squash or a "throwaway" match, deserve some sort of mention as to how the match went down.  Was it one-sided or back and forth?  Was it a good technical match or a spotfest?  The trouble with a TNM circuit that you post is you have to answer a lot of the questions for the reader that being able to actually watch the match would have answered.  All we have is text (and in your case, your neat pictures :))  so maybe a little more detail.  Don't need to go overboard (I put a good deal of detail into GCW, but I know not everyone likes that style), but it's my opinion that you need a little bit more, even for throwaway matches.  Or you might think I'm an idiot.  Either way. :)
WalkingCondominiumPosted on 02/16/05 at 22:36:00

No, seriously, it's cool, I wanted some feedback, thanks! I didn't even think to do that. In my head I know what's going on and how it'll play out, so I guess I assumed others would as well. lol

Snabbit888Posted on 02/16/05 at 22:43:09

Yeah, that's a trap that's really easy to fall into sometimes.  You're thinking, "Man, this is all so clear to me!  This will happen, and this will happen, etc." until you realize that no one else lives in your mind but you. :)  The trick is to find the amount of detail is right for you.  Rick and CotD are examples of two people who can run a solid circuit without using super extensive detailed writeups.  91 and myself prefer to be more detailed to get our points across.  Just gotta find the best ratio for you.
91Posted on 02/16/05 at 23:38:37

Snabby makes a fair point, but at the same time, the interviews and pre-match banter at least have started to show a little insight into some of the characters, so you'd be going some way into garnering some interest.

Obviously you have the added bonus of being "the guy with the really cool pictures" which'll really help the circuit stand out amongst the others - when there are a lot of circuits floating around, some start to look the same, so anything that makes the fed unique will instantly make it memorable, even though it doesn't change the quality of the product. Very nice touch though.

I take it you're having DDP as a regular performer in 1984. Not a quibble, just wanted to throw that in.

Finally, quick question - booked or unbooked?
WalkingCondominiumPosted on 02/17/05 at 06:42:13

Well, DDP is not the strong performer of the 90's by any means, just a more active wrestler than 'just' a manager. He was one of the bright spots in the AWA during the late 80's and his character is pretty well known by most fans. Plus, the way I plan on using him isn't too much of a stretch, IMO.

I decided to take the time to include pictures to not just brighten my results up, but to let people see more of the characters I am developing, since some will be used in gimmicks that, well, need to be seen to be believed. And being the visual person I am, I dig pictures!

I see I need more development in some characters (pre and post match), and should include a recap for readers after the matches (heck, I don't read them either, half the time!) The main characters I focused on establishing were Verne, DDP, the Hennigs, the ones I showed a little bit of their character were Hall, Lawler, and Greg. I didn't want to over do it, but see where I could have done more. I wrote to Oliver for my very own Circuit Board, if/when I get one, I'll move it their and clean it up at the same time.

Thanks for reading and replying!
