[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 11/8/04

Snabbit888Posted on 02/15/05 at 06:24:51

Global Championship Wrestling continued its tear through the Midwest, making a stop at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria, Illinois for Monday Night Explosion! Glory is only 13 days away, and more matches would be added to that big pay-per-view event tonight! Some big matches were scheduled as well, with Rey Mysterio Jr. going one-on-one with Billy Kidman, and Christopher Daniels putting the Television Title on the line against Cruiserweight champion Paul London! We'd also get to see both of the tag teams in the main event at Glory in action to test their teaming skills, with Randy Orton and Chris Jericho taking on the Italian Stallions, and Kurt Angle and Steve Bradley meeting the red hot Low-Ki and "Primetime" Elix Skipper! All that and more on Explosion!

* * * * *

["I Am" by Dale Oliver kicks off the broadcast of Monday Night Explosion. "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles makes his way out to the ring, and he certainly has a lot of questions to answer. Styles does his usual routine of spreading his arms toward the crowd before he takes the house mic.]

AS: All I've seen and heard all week long, on GCW television, on the internet, anywhere is about the status of Chris Benoit. Is he hurt? How long will he be out? How could this happen to our beloved Canadian icon? And you want to know something? It makes me sick to my stomach!

[Huge round of boos for this.]

AS: Is Benoit hurt? How long is he hurt? I don't give a DAMN how long Benoit is out! Chris Benoit is a perfect example of everything that's wrong with this business. Benoit has done a lot in professional wrestling, don't get me wrong. His accolades are well-known, and he will go down as one of the all-time greats. But let's face facts here: Benoit's career is on a downward slope. His skills are declining, and it's painfully obvious that he is a shell of his former self. Benoit's best days are behind him. Everybody knows that! That's why it boggles my mind that somehow he was voted in to wrestle Kurt Angle for the World Heavyweight Title last week. Are the fans seriously that retarded? Because you'd have to be a frickin' idiot to vote for a washed up has-been like that!

[The fans, not happy to be insulted, let Styles know it with their boos.]

AS: Everyone knew that Benoit didn't have a chance against Kurt Angle! If you people weren't so stupid, you would have voted for me, and I guarantee that I'd be the new World Heavyweight champion! I'm younger than Benoit, I'm faster than Benoit, I'm a better technical wrestler than Benoit, and most importantly... roll the footage!

[Styles directs everyone to the GCW VideoTron, which shows a clip from the July 12, 2004 Explosion. In the clip, it shows Styles hitting then World Heavyweight champion Chris Benoit with the Styles Clash and getting a three count in a non-title match. The VideoTron turns off and Styles continues his rant.]

AS: That's right, I BEAT Benoit 1-2-3 in the center of the ring! I beat Benoit when he was the World champion, and where was my title shot then? I've proved beyond any doubt that I am Chris Benoit's superior, and that it should have been me wrestling for the championship, not him!

[Styles is not endearing himself to anyone in attendance with his seemingly jealous and petty feelings toward Chris Benoit.]

AS: And thanks to me, Benoit will never wrestle for a championship again, because after the beating I gave him, you will NEVER see Benoit in GCW again!

[Styles has a huge smirk on his face at the thought of Benoit being gone. That smirk turns sour though when "Here Comes The Pain" kicks up and out comes BROCK LESNAR! Styles seems a bit apprehensive as he is as clueless as we are as to why Lesnar is down here. Lesnar has a microphone in hand as he gets in the ring, backing Styles off.]

BL: Now I dislike Chris Benoit as much as the next guy. Hell, I HATE Chris Benoit. And there's a huge part of me that is glad you put him out of action.

AS: Brock, it was my pleasure to...

BL: Shut up. Don't interrupt me again. Now I'm glad Benoit is out of the picture, but last week when you took Benoit out, you cost him the World Heavyweight Title. And when you cost Benoit the World Heavyweight Title, you cost *ME* the World Heavyweight Title! I was supposed to get a title shot at Glory, but thanks to you, that's not going to happen.

AS: Listen, Brock, I didn't mean to...

BL: SHUT UP! I have been trying to get my fair shot at the World Heavyweight Title for MONTHS now, and you think I'm going to let some punk like you cost me my shot and get away with it!?

AS: Brock, listen, it was all a misunderstanding!

BL: Well, try not to misunderstand me, because I'm going to give you two choices right now. You can either get out of my ring now and live, or you can stay and DIE!

AS: You don't have to tell me twice!

[Styles wisely makes his way out of the ring. Lesnar turns his back on Styles as he continues to speak.]

BL: Now Niemiller, you can't deny me my shot at the World Title forever. I am the most dominating force in professional wrestling today, and nobody deserves a shot at the big one more than...

[Lesnar is cut off mid-sentence as AJ Styles waffles him in the back with a chair! The Monster From Minnesota falls to one knee after the force of that blow, but Styles winds up again and cracks the chair over the skull of Lesnar! Styles has laid Brock Lesnar out, and subsequently may have made the biggest mistake of his life! We cut to commercial with Styles heading to the back holding his hands up in victory while Lesnar struggles to get to his feet.]

Match #1
Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Billy Kidman
Rey Mysterio Jr. and Billy Kidman are both going into Glory with chances to capture championships, the Television Title and Cruiserweight Title respectively, and a win tonight would put them in great shape going into the pay-per-view event. Mysterio and Kidman are no strangers to each other, having wrestled numerous times in the past across the country, but until recently, they hadn't crossed paths in GCW. Kidman looked strong early on, being the bigger of the two and using that strength advantage over Mysterio. Mysterio is about as explosive as they come though, as he can hit some amazing moves seemingly out of nowhere. That was the case in this one as Kidman went to hit the BK Bomb, Mysterio reversed out of it with a flying headscissors. Kidman was up fast and charged at Mysterio, but the man from San Diego brought him down with a drop toehold, hanging Kidman on the middle rope. Moments later, the 6-1-9 and West Coast Pop put Kidman away, showing just how quickly the tide can change when you wrestle Rey Mysterio Jr.

Rey Mysterio Jr. pinned Billy Kidman with the West Coast Pop in 0:04:49.
Rating: ***

Kidman was not at all happy with this defeat, and he let Mysterio know about it by planting him with the BK Bomb after the match. He looked to hit the Shooting Star Press as well, but PAUL LONDON ran in for the save, causing Kidman to run off. Mysterio was a little shaken up, but he was still walking out of here with the victory.

[We are in the office of President Ryan Niemiller. Niemiller is leaning back in his desk, talking to his bodyguard, Matt Morgan.]

RN: The paperwork is all signed, sealed, and delivered. With all the pandemonium that has been in the tag team division the past few weeks, the only way to settle it is to have all the top teams duke it out to see who is truly the best. That's why at Glory, we are going to see Tag Team Turmoil. Eight of the top teams in the world in one match, all fighting for the GCW World Tag Team Titles. All eight teams in the ring at the same time. If a member of a team is pinned or thrown over the top, both members are eliminated. When there are only two teams remaining, it has to end in a pinfall. The last team standing walks away with the World Tag Team Titles. And we got the top eight teams in GCW going at it: the World Tag Team champions, the Basham Brothers, the World's Greatest Tag Team, the Hardy Boyz, Rob Conway and Nick Dinsmore, the Italian Stallions, Booker T and Goldust, Team Canada, and Low-Ki and Elix Skipper. Any one of these teams could walk out as the champions!

MM: Sounds like a winner, boss.

RN: You're damn right it does. Now could you do me a favor and go find Brock Lesnar for me? I need to talk to him.

MM: Sure thing.

[Niemiller goes to some paperwork as organ swings open the door. Standing on the other side of the door is Brock Lesnar, and an angry Brock Lesnar at that.]

MM: Boss?

RN: Yeah, Matt?

MM: Brock Lesnar's here to see you.

[Niemiller looks up to see Lesnar standing in front of him.]

RN: Well that was fast. Brock, you're just the man I wanted to see.

BL: Tell me it's because I get to beat the crap out of AJ Styles tonight.

RN: As a matter of fact, that's exactly what I was going to tell you. Well, not in those words, persay, but...

BL: That's all I needed to hear.

[And just like that, Lesnar is gone. It looks like we will see Brock Lesnar vs. AJ Styles in our main event tonight.]

RN: That guy scares me a bit.

MM: Meh.

[Cut back to the ring.]

Match #2
Kurt Angle (World Heavyweight champion)/Steve "Who's Your Daddy?" Bradley vs. Low-Ki/"Primetime" Elix Skipper
The two tag teams involved in the main event at Glory had a chance to hone their tag skills tonight, and the first team up was Steve Bradley and World Heavyweight champion Kurt Angle taking on perhaps the hottest team in GCW, Low-Ki and "Primetime" Elix Skipper. Angle and Bradley go way back and know each other very well, but they haven't wrestled too many matches as a tag team before. Low-Ki and Skipper have been teaming very frequently for the past several months though, and their tag team chemistry was evident in this match. If there is one thing that Angle and Bradley aren't lacking, it's confidence, which is why it through them totally out of their games that Low-Ki and Skipper were holding their own and then some. Angle and Bradley expected to have this one put away fast, but that wasn't the case.

Angle and Bradley had trouble figuring out the unorthodox styles of Low-Ki and Skipper, but they eventually got them in a position where they could keep them grounded. Low-Ki got singled out in the match, as Angle and Bradley expertly worked over his leg. Frequent tags, good double team moves, Angle and Bradley were looking like a team that had been working together for years. One thing they couldn't work through was a distraction, and that's exactly what happened when RANDY ORTON and CHRIS JERICHO appeared on the top of the ramp to scout their opponents at Glory, but it turned into a battle of provoking and taunting. Angle and Bradley challenging Orton and Jericho to come to the ring, Orton and Jericho challenging Angle and Bradley to come up the ramp. During this distraction, Low-Ki was able to recover enough to catch Angle with a kick to the back, which sent the World Heavyweight champion crashing into Bradley, who flew into the guardrail on the floor. Low-Ki made the desperation tag to Elix Skipper who took advantage of Angle's stunned state by catching him with the Play Of The Day, and in what could be the upset of the year, Elix Skipper pinned Kurt Angle!

Elix Skipper and Low-Ki defeated Kurt Angle and Steve Bradley when Skipper pinned K. Angle with the Play Of The Day in 0:11:05.
Rating: *** 1/4

The roof almost blew off the building as Low-Ki and Elix Skipper celebrated their huge win as Randy Orton and Chris Jericho had a huge laugh at the expense of Kurt Angle. When Angle and Steve Bradley came to, they were in a state of both shock and fiery anger, not seeing how they could have possibly lost to Low-Ki and Elix Skipper. Angle was on a rampage, destroying everything he could get his hands on at ringside (even threatening to beat up announcer Joey O'Donnell). If Angle is this mad over this loss, imagine the state of mind he will be in if either Orton or Jericho beats him and Bradley at Glory.

* * * * *

[When we return from commercial break, Perry Saturn is standing in the ring.]

PS: I'm not a man of many words, but Justin Credible, you crossed a line last week. Tommy Dreamer was kind enough to offer you a spot in the Revolution, even though I didn't quite trust you. So what do you do? You cripple Dreamer! Dreamer's never going to be able to wrestle again, and I hope you're happy about it. Dreamer might be retired, and Red is injured, and the Revolution might be dead, but I can still kick your ass, right here, right now!

["Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck" by Prong plays and out comes Justin Credible to a less than flattering reception from the Peoria fans. He has a microphone with him. As Credible speaks, he is walking toward the ring.]

JC: Are you kidding me, Saturn? Did you see what happened to Tommy Dreamer? He tried to challenge me and BOOM! He's never going to wrestle again. And Dreamer was twice the man you'll ever be, Saturn! What do you think I'm going to do to a no-talent like you?

[Credible slides into the ring and gets in Saturn's face.]

JC: So even after watching what I did to Tommy Dreamer, you still want a piece of me?

PS: Yes I...

[Before Saturn can finish, Credible hits him between the eyes with the microphone, stunning him. Credible follows up with a superkick which sends Saturn crashing to the mat.]

JC: Get a referee out here!

[Referee JD Sanders runs to the ring and signals for the bell.]

Match #3
Perry Saturn vs. Justin Credible
Justin Credible's attack with the microphone on Perry Saturn set the stage for this match. Saturn was disoriented from the start and was unable to mount much of any offense against Credible, who was relentless on his attack. Every time Saturn tried to get up, Credible was all over him with stiff kicks or hard punches. Credible hit another superkick on Saturn and then put Saturn down and out with the That's Incredible.

Justin Credible pinned Perry Saturn with the That's Incredible in 0:02:54.
Rating: *** 1/4

Saturn was unable to recover from the cheap attack by Credible and suffered the loss because of it. The worst was to come though as Credible grabbed a steel chair from ringside, laid it down in the ring, and dropped Saturn on it with the That's Incredible! Justin Credible has absolutely lost it! First Tommy Dreamer and now Perry Saturn. Saturn was put on a stretcher and cautiously taken to the back as a safety measure after that vicious assault. Saturn may never be able to wrestle again, and what's worse is that Credible is proud of it.

Match #4
"Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero/"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown (North American champion) vs. Eric Angle/Sean O'Haire (w/ Daffney)
Putting Eddie Guerrero in the same ring with Eric Angle might not have been the best idea, but the match was signed for tonight with both individuals in this hated feud taking on North American champion Monty Brown and Sean O'Haire as partners respectively. Eric Angle has shown great skill in driving Guerrero insane, and he continued to do that by refusing to get in the ring with Latino Heat. This pushed Eddie to the brink of snapping, but at the same time, it didn't make Angle's partner Sean O'Haire very happy as he had to wrestle most of this match on his own. O'Haire and Angle (when he was in the match) singled out Monty Brown and tried to keep him in the ring, but Brown is a powerful guy who is hard to keep down, and he showed that when he hit a flying clothesline on Sean O'Haire, knocking both men to the canvas. O'Haire crawled over and tagged in Angle. Angle desperately tried to stop Brown, but he couldn't make it in time as the Alpha Male tagged in Eddie Guerrero!

Guerrero speared Angle to the mat and started wailing on him with hard punches. Eddie is highly skilled at technical wrestling, but you wouldn't know it from the beating he was laying on Eric Angle. Eddie threw Angle into the corner and stomped away at him relentlessly. Petey Pluck interjected and tried to get Guerrero off of Angle, but Latino Heat was in a rage, shoving Pluck across the ring. You can understand Guerrero's mindset with Eric Angle, but there's no justification for touching an official, and Guerrero was disqualified for it.

Sean O'Haire and Eric Angle defeated Eddie Guerrero and Monty Brown when E. Angle defeated E. Guerrero by disqualification in 0:05:50.
Rating: ***

Guerrero had lost the match, but he didn't care as he continued to stomp away at Angle. Eventually he was stopped when his partner Monty Brown confronted him about getting disqualified. Eddie shrugged it off, turning his attentions back toward Angle. Brown spun Guerrero back around, and when he did so, Latino Heat clocked him with a hard right hand! Brown was stunned, but when he regained his composure, he had a look of complete anger on his face. Guerrero wisely got out of the ring in a heartbeat before Brown got a hold of him. I know Eddie Guerrero has had a rough time of it as of late because of Eric Angle, but if he's not careful, he's going to have no friends left. Regardless of that, we have learned from GCW officials that at Glory, Eddie Guerrero and Eric Angle will meet one more time, and it will be in a Last Man Standing match!

[Shaniqua is backstage with the World Tag Team champions, the Basham Brothers. She is pacing around the room with her riding crop.]

S: This is ridiculous. There's no doubt that you're the most dominant tag team in GCW, but having to wrestle seven teams at the same time, with the titles on the line? Well that's fine. That's just fine. They wanna stack the deck against us? We'll kick all of their asses and show without any doubt that this is the dominant tag team in all of wrestling.

DoB: Seven tag teams means there will be fourteen asses for us to kick!

DaB: Glory is going to be play time...

S: Why don't we go show the tag team division exactly what they have to look forward to at Glory?

DoB: Now we're talking!

[As Doug and Danny leave the room, Shaniqua gives each of them a hard shot on the back with the riding crop, much to their twisted delight. Cut to the ring.]

Match #5
The Hardy Boyz (w/ Lita) vs. Team Canada (w/ Dawn Marie)
With the announcement of Tag Team Turmoil, all of the tag teams know that building some momentum now is going to be very important. The Hardy Boyz and Team Canada stepped their games up to another level tonight, and what resulted was perhaps the best tag team contest we have seen all year. With the four men involved, we knew we were bound to see some dazzling high-flying maneuvers, but we were also treated to some fantastic mat wrestling from these young superstars. The crowd took a bit to warm up, but by the end of this match, there wasn't a single individual in their seat or not counting along with every nearfall. After a feverish few opening minutes, the match settled down with both teams employing their respective strategies. Matt and Jeff Hardy have their teamwork skills down to a science. They know exactly where the other is at all times, and it allows them to hit extremely impressive tandem moves on a consistent basis. Teddy Hart and Petey Williams have shown that they are not above using underhanded tactics to help win a match, and now with the addition of Dawn Marie to their camp, they've had an extra fire lit under them. Even after 10 minutes of this contest, it was still impossible to pick a winner as both teams were taking their licks. At about the 13 minute mark, an awkward series of events unfolded when all four men began to brawl in the ring. During the chaos, Matt Hardy caught Teddy Hart with the Twist of Fate, but at the same time, Petey Williams hit Jeff Hardy with the Canadian Destroyer, and nobody is getting up from that. Now Matt and Williams were the legal men, but for all intent and purpose, their partners were out of it.

Matt Hardy and Petey Williams then went at it, and both seemed to have a second wind, knowing that the victory for their teams was solely on their shoulders. Williams caught the advantage after a brief exchange by slowing Hardy down with a knee to the midsection, and set Matt Hardy up for the Canadian Destroyer. Williams went to flip over, but Hardy had the strength to catch him and bring him back down. Hardy reversed and called for the Twist of Fate, but before he could hit it, the BASHAM BROTHERS jumped in the ring and started beating on Matt Hardy AND Petey Williams! The referee had no choice but to throw this tremendous match out.

Team Canada (Teddy Hart and Petey Williams) and The Hardy Boyz (Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy) battled to a no contest in 0:15:14.
Rating: *****

Shaniqua didn't care that she just ruined perhaps the match of the year as she was directing the World Tag Team champions to obliterate two of their main challengers at Glory. The Bashams lifted Matt Hardy up and stuffed him with the Ball And Gag Bomb. Petey Williams was lifted up and received the same treatment. Shaniqua's boys have sent an emphatic message to their opponents at Glory: they will not go away quietly.

[We are back in the office of President Ryan Niemiller. Matt Morgan enters the room.]

MM: Kurt Angle and Steve Bradley here to see you, sir.

RN: Send them in.

[Morgan nods, opens the door, and in come World Heavyweight champion Kurt Angle and Steve Bradley. Bradley ominously has Mofo in his hands.]

KA: What are you going to do about this, Niemiller? What happened earlier is completely unacceptable! I was pinned, Niemiller, PINNED by... Elix Skipper!? ELIX SKIPPER!? You've got to be freakin' kidding me! How could I be pinned by Elix Skipper? Oh, I know! Because of the jealousy of Randy Orton and Chris Jericho! They obviously didn't learn anything from me, because they forgot about two of my three I's: intelligence, because that might have been the stupidest thing they've ever done, and integrity, because costing someone a match like they did to me tonight is just low! It's true! So I ask you again, Niemiller, what are you going to do about this? Either you take care of Orton and Jericho, or we will!

[Bradley slams Mofo into his hand to put an exclamation point on this. Niemiller hesitates for a bit, formulating his response.]

RN: I've thought about it, and here's what I'm going to do. So as not to have a repeat performance of earlier tonight, both of you will be banned from ringside during Randy Orton and Chris Jericho's match against the Italian Stallions. If you choose to ignore this ban, I will make it so the World Heavyweight Title will be on the line in the tag match at Glory.

KA: WHAT!? You can't do that, Niemiller!

RN: That is, of course, if you are still the champion.

KA: What are you talking about, IF I'm still the champion?

RN: I have decided that due to his scoring a pinfall over you, Kurt, in the tag match earlier, Elix Skipper will be granted a shot at the World Heavyweight Title, and it will take place next week on Monday Night Explosion!

KA: You have to be kidding me, Niemiller! Not only are you not going to do anything about Randy Orton and Chris Jericho, but you're going to make me defend my World Heavyweight Title six days before the pay-per-view!? I'm not going to forget this, Niemiller! You can count on it! Let's go, Bradley.

[A disgruntled Kurt Angle and Steve Bradley storm out of the office.]

MM: He seems pretty upset, boss.

RN: He'll get over it.

[Cut back to the ring.]

Match #6
Randy Orton/"Y2J" Chris Jericho vs. The Italian Stallions
With Kurt Angle and Steve Bradley banned from ringside, Randy Orton and Chris Jericho could focus all of their energies on establishing some tag team chemistry. No distractions was nice, but it wasn't going to be easy against the established and tough team of Chuck Palumbo and Mark Jindrak, the Italian Stallions. If there were any doubts about how Orton and Jericho were going to operate as a tag team, they can be put to rest. Orton and Y2J wrestled a flawless match against a team that is more than competent in the ring. Orton and Jericho used great strategy to fluster Palumbo and Jindrak, and in the end, Jericho put Palumbo in the Walls of Jericho. Jindrak tried to break it up, but Orton cut him off with the R.K.O. and this match was over with a bang.

Chris Jericho and Randy Orton defeated The Italian Stallions (Chuck Palumbo and Mark Jindrak) when Jericho made C. Palumbo submit to the Walls Of Jericho in 0:06:40.
Rating: ****

Although this match will not help the Stallions going into Tag Team Turmoil, Randy Orton and Chris Jericho will definitely be riding a wave of momentum as they face their former stablemates in only 13 days.

* * * * *

[Goldust and Booker T are in the locker room area. In a flip from recent weeks, it is Booker who is happy and Goldust who is upset.]

G: How could this have happened? Booker T and Goldust being in Tag Team Turmoil is unacceptable! We're not ready yet! We haven't built the proper tag team chemistry, and now we're wrestling for the World Tag Team Titles!

BT: I know, dawg! Ain't it great?

G: No it's not great! It is anything but great! Great? Great? Not great! Very un-great!

BT: How can you say that, man? We have a chance to be the tag team champions of the World, sucka! Screw this team chemistry bullcrap!

G: Why I never! How can you say that? We're a couple now...

BT: We're a WHAT!

G: [Not missing a beat] We're a team now, and if we're ever going to be the greatest team ever ever ever, we need to make sure the timing is right. And how did we even get this match?

BT: Oh, I have my ways, dawg.

G: What do you mean?

BT: I had a talk with President Niemiller, and I persuaded him to put us in the match.

G: You persuaded him?

BT: Yeah, that's right.

G: How did you persuade him?

BT: That's not important, dawg...

G: [Now getting aroused] Oh, Booker... I didn't know you had it in you...

BT: Tell me you did not just say that! Not like that, you sick freak! I just talked to him! Man, you're sick, dawg...

G: [Disappointed] Oh.

BT: You need help, dawg. And what I need is to become one-half of the World Tag Team champions. Now can you dig that... SUCKA!?

[After looking at his hand and shaking his head around, Booker T exits with a big laugh.]

G: Oh poop.

[Cut to commercial.]

Match #7
Television Title Match
"Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels (c) (w/ Daffney) vs. Paul London (Cruiserweight champion)
The current Cruiserweight champion Paul London had nothing to lose and everything to gain as he challenged "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels for the Television Title (the Cruiserweight Title not being up for grabs in this one). London had the opportunity to become the first double champion in GCW's short history, but Daniels wasn't going to make it easy on him. Both individuals in this match have big matches coming up at Glory, but neither man seemed to be looking past the other, knowing full well what their opponent was capable of. Daniels likes to keep things on the, and he tried to do so with London early. That's a lot easier said than done, as London can bounce all over the place. London tried to overwhelm the Fallen Angel with his suicidal style, knowing that big risks would have to be taken to win the Television Title. London went for his bull charge somersault plancha, but Daffney took her focus away from the Television Title (her baby) long enough to pull Daniels out of the way, sending London crashing into the barricade, severely changing the tide of this contest. London tried to fight back several times, but he was never able to fully recover from that huge crash and burn, as Daniels was able to finish London off with the Last Rites.

Christopher Daniels pinned Paul London with the Last Rites in 0:08:05.
Rating: *** 1/2
(Christopher Daniels retained the GCW Television Title.)

This match goes to show you that sometimes those high risks don't pay off as Paul London came up just short in his attempt to become a double champion. He still will be defending the Cruiserweight Title against Billy Kidman at Glory. Daffney was thrilled that the Television Title would be safe within her grasps for another week. She may need to kiss that title goodbye come Glory though when Christopher Daniels has to defend against a highly motivated Rey Mysterio Jr.

[Justin Credible is seen walking down a corridor backstage. He is talking to no one in particular as he walks with a huge smile on his face.]

JC: And another one bites the dust! First Tommy Dreamer, and now Perry Saturn! It's hard being the most intimidating man in wrestling! Hell, you can call me "Career-Ending" Justin Credible, because I'll mow right through everybody in Global Championship Wrestling!

[As Credible is walking, he comes across "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels.]

JC: Out of my way, old man, unless you want me to end your career too! Did you see what happened to Perry Saturn?

HBK: Yes I did, and you should be very proud of yourself. Using a steel chair... very manly. You're a tough guy, aren't you?

JC: You better not be a smart ass, because don't think I won't do the exact same thing to you! Heartbreak Kid? Kid? Aren't you like 70 by now? You need to step aside, dinosaur, and realize that it's Justin Credible's time to shine!

HBK: I've had better men than you call me a whole lot worse, Credible. I might not be the same spring chicken I was a few years back, but I know I'm still a better man than you, cueball.

JC: Oh is that right?

HBK: Yeah, that's right. So why don't you run along?

JC: Actually, I have a better idea.

[Credible nails Michaels with a hard slap. Michaels recoils from the slap as Credible laughs. HBK turns back and tackles Credible onto a nearby table. Michaels peppers Credible with right hands. Credible tries to regain the upperhand and both men roll off the table to the floor, hitting each other with punches the entire time. The GCW Official Brigade runs in and pulls these two apart, but Michaels and Credible certainly don't make it easy on them.]

JC: You sonofabitch! You're a dead man, Michaels, a dead man!

HBK: I'm right here! C'mon! Let's go!

[We cut back to the ring for our main event as officials keep these two separated.]

Match #8
MAIN EVENT
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles vs. Brock Lesnar
It was main event time, and we didn't know what to expect going into this match between AJ Styles and Brock Lesnar. Before the match began, a video package aired recapping what happened earlier in the evening when Styles rattled Lesnar with not one but two hard chair shots. Lesnar demanded this match out of pure anger, but after the way Styles busted him with the chair, it may have been ill-advised. Styles may not be as big or strong as Lesnar, but he's as crafty as they come, and certainly not a man you want to have a match with if you're not at 100%. Lesnar's adrenaline fueled him early as he put quite a beating on Styles, but Styles cut Lesnar's momentum off when he nailed him with a Pele kick right in the head, disorienting the Monster From Minnesota. A springboard flying forearm from the Phenomenal One put him in firm control.

Not to take anything away from AJ Styles, as he is a phenomenal athlete, but Brock Lesnar looked out of it for much of this match. Lesnar will usually bull rush his opponents and overwhelm them with his power, but Lesnar seemed a little glossed over, almost as if he was suffering symptoms similar to a concussion. Styles wisely focused his attack on Lesnar's head and neck, essentially trying to knock the big man out. Lesnar seemed completely out of it, but Styles couldn't put him away. Lesnar must have been operating purely on instinct, but he kept kicking out of Styles' pin attempts. Styles became frustrated and called for the end, trying to get Lesnar up for the Styles Clash. Something woke up in Lesnar though, as he reversed it by lifting Syles up and charging him into the turnbuckles. The wind was knocked out of Styles, and Lesnar just snapped, driving his shoulder into Styles' abdomen repeatedly. Lesnar followed with a spinebuster, a power bomb, and finished the former Television champion off with the devastating F-5.

Brock Lesnar pinned AJ Styles with the F-5 in 0:09:27.
Rating: **** 1/4

Brock Lesnar had won the match, but I'm not too sure that he was fully aware of it. Lesnar laid on the mat not moving for a couple of minutes. We knew he wasn't in top condition as AJ Styles was able to get to his feet before Lesnar did. Eventually with the help of referee Jimmy Appleseed and the ropes, Lesnar got back to his feet, only to be knocked back down with another steel chair shot! Styles put the bad mouth on Lesnar, standing over him with the steel chair. Styles lifted the chair high above his head to nail Lesnar again, but someone grabbed it from behind and took it away from him. It was CHRIS BENOIT, equipped with a huge knee brace on his left knee. Styles turned around and was met with a chair right between the eyes! The crowd was on its feet cheering for Benoit as we went off the air with Benoit standing over the unconscious bodies of AJ Styles and Brock Lesnar.

I swear if Elix Skipper wins the title, I will pull out my teeth with some rusty pliers. Orton and Jericho have the momentum and I'm still picking them to win this one at Glory. Either way, the loss shouldn't hurt Angle tonight if he beats Skipper decisively next time out.

Hmmm, possibly the inevitable Michaels/Credible match will be to put Credible over as a big force. Right now, I dunno, it's still just Justin Credible, but a win over Michaels could change that. The wins over JBL didn't make too much difference as now EVERYBODY has beaten JBL.

It's great that Eric Angle has a direction now, the important thing is that when he does lose, he maintains one, else he'd suffer from Tatanka syndrome - y'know, he was over for the two years he was undefeated but after that loss, everybody stopped caring (I saw that match with Borga for the first time last night). I'd expect him to beat Eddie and help spiral him further up the card. Next Intercontinental Champion perhaps...

Oh god, if Booker T and Goldust won the belts... oh man, that'd rule hard. I mean, OK, the Bashams retaining is pretty logical, make sense, I could understand it, but forgive me if I'm pulling for Team Homoerotic here.

Fuck me, five stars, didn't see that coming. Team Canada have to do well in the TTT now, even if they don't win it (which they won't... probably). Hell, after that one, I could see you lining them up as the next champions.

Can't see Benoit winning the triple threat match, he's had a great run as champion and doesn't need the win as much as the other two - Brock is a threat to the title and a win here would solidify him as perhaps the next challenger. A.J. is more of a threat in the "I can buy him being a big challenger, but I can't see him winning the belt" sense right now. If Brock is being groomed for one of the next couple of PPV title shots (as opposed to the immediate next show since Jericho is also jostling for a crack), he'll win, else Styles will take it.

Wow... not a big fan of Elix Skipper, are we? :)

Still debating what to do with Michaels/Credible.  so your guess is as good as mine at this point.

Eric Angle definitely won't go the way of the buffalo.

Goldust and Booker T are only gonna get better, babay!

***** I didn't see coming either, for a no contest no less.  I had to use the 'c' feature to get it to end with the no contest, and it only took me 3 or 4 times to do so.  I'm surprised it still got ***** because a) the finish was a no contest, and b) every time you hit 'c', it gives the match negative 5 nearfalls which hurts the rating.  So, it was a fuck of a good match.

And making that match a triangle match kind of just fell together when I was writing this last card.  My original plan was to have Benoit vs. Styles, and then Lesnar vs. HBK in an Elite 8 Qualifying Match (next PPV, KotR style) but this works better, plus gets Credible on the PPV, which win or lose, he needs.

Thanks for the feedback, dumpling.

Dumpling? Am I Booker T to your... actually best not go there. Actually I've nothing against Elix Skipper whatsoever but, well, it's Kurt Angle and it's Elix Skipper.
Snabbit888Posted on 02/16/05 at 21:24:53

Yeah... I don't think anyone really expects Skipper to walk away with the title, but it's one of those matches that can really get a guy over if he has a good showing.  Think Kurt Angle vs. John Cena when Cena made his debut, ruthless aggression style!

I bet you're going to have Angle squash him now, just to throw me completely off. :P
