[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 11/1/04

Snabbit888Posted on 02/05/05 at 05:21:08

Welcome to the Veteran's Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines, Iowa as we kick off November with Monday Night Explosion! What a night of action we had lined up, as Kurt Angle would defend the World Heavyweight Title in our main event against the winner of the Election Special vote! That wouldn't be the only title match though, as the Basham Brothers defended the World Tag Team Titles against the Hardy Boyz, but with Shaniqua and Lita both banned from ringside! Hopefully we would finally get a clear cut winner between these two great teams. Also, the undefeated Eric Angle would get his first chance at championship gold as he challenged Monty Brown for the North American Title! We would also get some information of GCW's next pay-per-view spectacular! It was certainly a full show!

* * * * *

[After the opening to Explosion concludes, we see GCW President Ryan Niemiller sitting at the desk in his office. Standing behind him in a suit with his arms folded is Niemiller's bodyguard, Matt Morgan.]

RN: Hi everyone and welcome to Monday Night Explosion. Before we get to our wrestling action for the evening, I would like to announce the results of the Election Special vote. I'd like to thank all of the GCW fans who logged on to GCW.com to participate in this vote. You have all made your voice heard. This just goes to show that your votes really do count, a fact that you all should keep in mind as you head to the polls tomorrow to vote for those that will lead this country. So, without further adieu, the winner of the Election Special vote and the man who will face Kurt Angle for the World Heavyweight Title is... CHRIS BENOIT! This is the match you all wanted to see, and tonight, Chris Benoit will have the opportunity to become the World champion for the second time. What a main event! If it's even half as good as their previous matches have been, we're all in for a treat! Enjoy the show everyone!

[Cut to the ring.]

Match #1
Low-Ki/"Primetime" Elix Skipper vs. The Italian Stallions
With last week's huge tag team scuffle on Explosion following the four corners match, it's pretty obvious that there are several teams in Global Championship Wrestling who want a crack at the Basham Brothers and the World Tag Team Titles. Low-Ki and Elix Skipper added themselves into the discussion by pulling off a minor upset over Rob Conway and Nick Dinsmore on High Voltage this past weekend, and they were looking to build on that against the formidable Italian Stallions in our opening contest. The Italian Stallions were still in the Halloween spirit, as Chuck Palumbo was dressed as Mario and Mark Jindrak was dressed as Luigi, the Super Mario Stallions as it were. Jindrak was less than happy about his costume, but Palumbo was in full character, pretending to collect coins and stomp on Goombas.

The win on High Voltage seemed to have done Low-Ki and Skipper a lot of good, as they wrestled with a lot of confidence and looked as sharp as they ever have. Chuck Palumbo and Mark Jindrak had the considerable size advantage, but Low-Ki and Skipper managed to work better as a team tonight, successfully cutting the ring in half and keeping Palumbo in the match. After using some great double team moves to wear down Palumbo's arm, Low-Ki blasted Palumbo with several hard kicks to that arm before locking on a short arm scissors. Jindrak tried to break it up, but he was cut off by Skipper. It didn't take long before the pain was too much for Palumbo to take.

Elix Skipper and Low-Ki defeated The Italian Stallions (Chuck Palumbo and Mark Jindrak) when Low-Ki made C. Palumbo submit to a short arm scissors in 0:06:59.
Rating: ***

Another impressive victory for Low-Ki and Elix Skipper. If this keeps up, more than a few heads are going to be turned by this impressive tag team.

[After his music plays, out from the back comes "The Innovator of Violence" Tommy Dreamer. He is walking at a very lethargic pace, heavily favoring his back and ribs after the assault he suffered last week at the hands of Justin Credible. He slowly crawls in the ring and gets the microphone from William Buck.]

TD: Yes, I'm beat up, yes I'm hurting, yes I probably shouldn't be here tonight. But even with my back, my ribs, my neck hurting as much as they do, I know for a damn FACT that I can still kick Justin Credible's ass! So Credible, instead of jumping me from behind, why don't you grow a set and get your ass down here RIGHT NOW!?

[After a slight delay, "Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck" by Prong plays and out comes Justin Credible, holding the Singapore cane in his hand. Dreamer is ready for a fight, calling Credible into the ring. Credible, despite having a Singapore cane in tow, is quite tentative about getting into the ring. Eventually referee Petey Pluck comes down to the ring and keeps Dreamer far enough back for Credible to get in the ring. However, Dreamer wastes no time in jumping Credible and we have ourselves a match!]

Match #2
"The Innovator of Violence" Tommy Dreamer vs. Justin Credible
Tommy Dreamer shouldn't have wrestled tonight. His back is in awful shape, especially after the drubbing he took last week from Justin Credible. Dreamer is known for being one of the toughest men in the business though, and he showed it by not only showing up tonight and calling Credible out, but actually being quite competitive as well. Dreamer was the aggressor early, taking out his frustrations by taking Credible down with a lot of straight brawling techniques. Dreamer became too aggressive though when he took Credible to the outside. Dreamer tried to whip Credible into the guardrail, but Credible reversed it and sent Dreamer back first into the steel. Credible got a sick smile on his face, and he was relentless on his attack of Dreamer's back, using the ring apron as a weapon. Dreamer was in a ton of pain, but the more Dreamer hurt, the more aggressive Credible got. Dreamer was trying to fight back, but his body simply wouldn't let him as he fell victim to the That's Incredible.

Justin Credible pinned Tommy Dreamer with the That's Incredible in 0:05:49.
Rating: ***

Credible was proud of his victory, and didn't seem to care that Dreamer wasn't moving in the ring. Credible came into Des Moines looking to prove a point, and he did just that as he grabbed a chair from ringside. He brought it into the ring and laid into Dreamer's back with it, hitting him with at least ten hard chair shots! Credible tossed Dreamer to the floor and cleared off the announce table, which is never a good sign. Dreamer was unable to defend himself as Credible hoisted him up and dropped him with a power bomb right through the table! Dreamer was in bad shape, and all Credible could do was smile sadistically. The EMTs rushed down with a stretcher and gingerly put the Innovator of Violence on it. It looks as though Tommy Dreamer's career may be over, and what's worse is that Justin Credible is happy about it.

[William Buck is standing in the middle of the ring.]

WB: Ladies and gentlemen, would you please welcome... CHRIS JERICHO AND RANDY ORTON!

[The crowd explodes in a thunderous ovation as "Break the Walls Down" and here come Y2J and the Legend Killer! It's amazing the reaction these two are getting considering that about a month ago, they were a part of the most hated group in GCW, the Sensationals. But now the Sensationals have completely fallen apart, though Jericho and Orton are still on the same page. After working the crowd for a bit, Jericho and Orton enter the ring where Jericho takes the microphone.]

CJ: Welcome to.. MONDAY... NIGHT... JERICHO! [Huge crowd pop] We're not really scheduled for this time, but when we heard the news, we just had to come out here and let everybody know! We have a big announcement!

RO: A big announcement you say?

CJ: You know it, Ricky Morton!

RO: Did you just call me Ricky Morton?

CJ: Don't worry about it. Why? Because we got an announcement to make, daddio!

RO: I wonder what that announcement could be about. Perhaps about the next pay-per-view?

CJ: Perhaps...

RO: Entitled "Glory"?

CJ: So far, so good.

RO: And I'm sensing something... something about a main event!

CJ: Keep going...

RO: And... and... it's a tag team match! You and me against Kurt Angle and Steve Bradley!

CJ: DING DING DING! You are correct, sir! Tell him what he's won, Des Moines! That's right, on Sunday, November 21, 2004, in Memphis, Tennessee, it's going to be myself, the Ayatollah of Rock 'n' Rollah, the Canadian King of Bling-Bling, your Paragon of Virtue, "Y2J" Chris Jericho teaming up with "The Legend Killer" Ricky Morton, the future of this business, taking on the World Heavyweight champion Kirk Angel and his bag boy, Stevie Bradlin in tag team pandemonium!

RO: You have got to stop calling me Ricky Morton, Chris.

CJ: Why?

RO: Because he's a legendary tag team wrestler. And you know, I'm the Legend Killer.

CJ: Hrm... good point. Well what should I call you then?

[Before Orton can answer, "Longhorn" plays, drawing some boos from the Iowa crowd. The big white stretch limo with the bullhorns on it comes out, meaning John Bradshaw Layfield is in the house. The limo stops, the driver gets out, goes to the back, and opens the door to let JBL out. As is his norm, JBL is decked out in his wrestling trunks, black windbreaker ring jacket, and tall white cowboy hat. The limo driver remains standing next to the door as JBL makes his way to the ring. He shakes hands with William Buck before grabbing another microphone and getting in the ring.]

JBL: What in the world are you guys babbling about? You said a little bit ago that this wasn't even your time, and there's no one more aware of that than me, because this is supposed to be my time! This is just another example of how unfair GCW is being to me in recent weeks. First they stopped paying for my limo driver. So now I've had to hire a full-time driver, that little guy down there, Lamont. Everybody say hello to Lamont.

[JBL gives the people time to wave at Lamont, but no one really does. Lamont waves at the crowd.]

JBL: Stop it, Lamont! I pay you to drive, not wave! [Lamont stops abruptly.] If having to provide my own driver wasn't bad enough, now they're giving my TV time away to annoying punks like you two!

RO: What were you going to use the time for, to make another one of your open challenges that always go so well?

JBL: As a matter of fact, I was. But those plans have changed, because I'm not making an open challenge anymore. I'm challenging either one of you two to a match right here, right now! You call yourself the King of the World, Jericho? I'll make you look like the court jester. And Orton, you say you're a legend killer? Well there's no one more legendary than me, the greatest singles wrestler of all-time!

CJ: You want a piece of one of us, ass clown?

JBL: Yeah, let's see what you funny men got!

[Jericho and Orton look at each other and then they both shrug. They decide to play a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors to decide who will face Bradshaw. Jericho goes scissors, but Orton counters with rock to secure a stunning victory. JBL takes off his cowboy hat and windbreaker, and then motions for Lamont to come down and take them from him, which Lamont obediently does. Referee Antonio Santangelo comes to the ring to start the match. That's two impromptu matches in a row.]

* * * * *

Match #3
Randy Orton (w/ Chris Jericho) vs. John Bradshaw Layfield (w/ Lamont)
We found out that Randy Orton and Chris Jericho will take on Kurt Angle and Steve Bradley at Glory, the next GCW pay-per-view, but John Bradshaw Layfield was more concerned with his television time being taken. JBL is still looking for that first win, looking to make Randy Orton that first victim. JBL was paranoid about Chris Jericho being down at ringside, constantly telling referee Antonio Santangelo to watch him. He even told Lamont at one point to go "take Jericho out" to which Lamont emphatically shook his head "no." Must not be in his job description as limo driver.

The thing with JBL's losing streak is that in every match he's lost, he's been competitive. No one is blowing him out of the water or squashing him; he simply hasn't been able to put opponents away. That was much the case tonight, as JBL hit Orton hard and often. JBL had clubbed Orton so hard that the Legend Killer's chest and back were beat red. This isn't to say that Orton didn't get his licks in as well, hitting JBL with many of his signature moves. Though it wouldn't be Orton's signature moves that earned him victory tonight, but more his ring savvy. JBL set Orton up top going for a superplex, but Orton fought him off with some punches to the midsection and a push-off. Orton regained his bearings and perched himself on the top, but Lamont jumped on the ring apron to distract him. Probably not in his best interests, as Chris Jericho got in the ring to nail him with his springboard dropkick! With Lamont successfully dispatched, Orton flew off and hit a picture perfect flying cross body press to put another notch in JBL's loss column.

Randy Orton pinned John Bradshaw Layfield after a flying cross body press in 0:09:47.
Rating: *** 1/4

JBL's woes continue as Randy Orton and Chris Jericho show that they make a good team. They're going to need to because even if the Sensationals ended rather poorly, Kurt Angle and Steve Bradley are definitely going to be on the same page. That is certainly going to be a heated main event for Glory.

* * * * *

[Out of the commercial break, "Medal" plays and the boo birds come out as here comes Eric Angle, out for his first title shot in Global Championship Wrestling. Angle is all smiles as he gets in the ring and does the spin reminiscent of his brother Kurt. He takes the microphone from William Buck as his music dies down.]

EA: Quiet down, quiet down, because I've got a few things to say.

[Crowd boos louder. Angle gives them sufficient time to quiet down before continuing.]

EA: For everyone who told me that the Black Tiger thing was a bad idea, how does it feel to eat your words? It's only been eight days since I revealed myself to the world as Black Tiger, and look, I have my first title shot. It's a shame that I have to win my first GCW title in a place like Des Moines. I mean, after I win the North American Title, I'm going to have more title belts than most people in this city have teeth! [Crowd boos] But enough chit chat. I have a North American Title to win.

["Down With The Sickness" by Disturbed plays to a huge pop and here comes the North American champion, "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown! Brown is all business as he prepares for his first title defense. Brown does his usual working of the crowd before he grabs the microphone away from Eric Angle.]

MB: You talk a good game, and you might be undefeated, but tonight you are going to feel the POOOOOOOOOOUNCE! PERIOD!

[Brown throws the microphone down and nails Angle with a punch. Head referee Jimmy Appleseed calls for the bell, and the title is on the line!]

Match #4
North American Title Match
"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown (c) vs. Eric Angle
Eric Angle is confident that he's going to capitalize on his first title shot, but Monty Brown is only eight days removed from winning the title, and didn't plan on making his first title defense be an unsuccessful one. both of these men have been on incredible rolls, Brown dominating his way through the North American Title Tournament and Eric Angle yet to taste defeat at all in a GCW ring. Brown came out fast out of the shoots, hammering away at the challenger. Eric Angle has a tremendous amateur background though, and he was able to bring the Alpha Male to the mat early and often. Definitely a contrast in styles here.

Brown is so hard to beat because he can take a lot of punishment but because of his strength, he can absorb it and keep on coming. And once Brown gets the advantage, he can wear an opponent down in a hurry. When you have the strength that the Alpha Male has, a basic move like a clothesline because a potential knockout blow. Brown's offense wasn't flashy, but it was effective as he mowed through the elder Angle with several clotheslines, forearm smashes, elbows, and the like. Eric Angle could sense his opportunity to be the champion and his undefeated streak slipping away, as after taking a clothesline, Angle rolled to the floor. While he was out there, he grabbed a steel chair from ringside and tossed it in the ring before rolling back in himself. Jimmy Appleseed grabbed the chair and went to remove it from the ring, but while he had his back turned, Angle caught Brown with a blatant low blow! Appleseed turned back around to see Eric Angle hitting the Angle Slam on the champion. However, before Angle could go for the cover, EDDIE GUERRERO jumped out from the crowd, grabbed the chair that was just in the ring moments ago, slid in the ring, and cracked Angle in the spine!

Eric Angle defeated Monty Brown by disqualification in 0:10:58.
Rating: ***
(Monty Brown retained the GCW North American Title.)

Eddie Guerrero had a crazed look on his eyes as he mounted Angle and peppered him with right hand after right hand. The GCW Official Brigade was down to the ring in a hurry, but they had a lot of trouble getting Latino Heat out of there. Whether Eric Angle would have gotten the pin on Monty Brown or not is debatable, but Brown is walking out of here the North American champion. Brown was handed his title in the ring as Guerrero was escorted and Angle was helped to the back. Due to the commotion of Guerrero's attack, Brown and the officials were blind to see SEAN O'HAIRE down at the ring, with that same chair in hand no less! Brown turned to head to the back, but he instead turned right into a sickening chair shot from the Prophecy's enforcer! Brown fell like a tree in the center of the ring after that vicious shot, causing the officials to run back to the ring to make sure no further damage could be done. O'Haire made a final statement by picking up the North American Title and holding it high into the air. We learned after the show that an angry Monty Brown went into GCW President Ryan Niemiller's office and demanded a match with Sean O'Haire. Niemiller has since granted Brown's request, and it will be Monty Brown against Sean O'Haire at the Glory pay-per-view, and it will be for the North American Title!

Match #5
Chris Hero vs. Sean O'Haire (w/ Daffney)
Sean O'Haire was back out after his attack on Monty Brown, as he had a match against exciting newcomer Chris Hero. O'Haire wasn't focused on Hero initially, instead with his thoughts on Brown and the North American Title. Hero took advantage of O'Haire's overlooking him, coming out fast and scoring several nearfalls on the member of the Prophecy. Daffney (once again cradling the Television Title) shrieked with every pinfall attempt on O'Haire, which got annoying quickly as it usually does. Hero had O'Haire reeling, but O'Haire ducked a clothesline from Hero before almost taking Hero's head off with a clothesline of his own. After that vicious shot, Hero looked out of it, having a glazed look on his face. Hero couldn't gather his wits in time, and it wasn't long before O'Haire stuffed him with the Prophecy and picked up the win.

Sean O'Haire pinned Chris Hero with the Prophecy in 0:06:19.
Rating: ** 1/4

Chris Hero was a little worse for wear, but he was checked out by head trainer Barry Tarver who said he was okay. That just goes to show you how one good shot from a man the size of Sean O'Haire can completely change the complexion of a match. O'Haire gets a big win heading into Glory, but rest assured that Chris Hero will be back to fight another day.

[GCW President Ryan Niemiller is doing what he usually in his office, and that's go over paperwork of some kind. Matt Morgan is flanked to the side of him with his arms folded, doing what bodyguards usually do. Suddenly, we hear "NIEMILLER!" yelled from outside and the door swings open, revealing a very pissed off Monster From Minnesota, Brock Lesnar. Morgan immediately snaps into action, putting himself in between Lesnar and Niemiller.]

MM: Brock, I'm going to have to ask you to leave.

BL: And I'm going to have to ask you to get the hell out of my way before you get your ass kicked!

[Morgan reaches back as if he is going to punch Lesnar, but Niemiller stops him.]

RN: Matt! It's okay.

[After another tense moment, Morgan steps down.]

RN: How can I help you, Brock?

BL: I'm not one to bitch and moan, but I'm starting to get a little bit pissed off that I haven't been given a World Heavyweight Title shot!

RN: I understand that, Brock, but there are many credible contenders and...

BL: Credible, my ass! Why in the hell is Chris Benoit getting the title shot tonight instead of me? In case you don't remember, I kicked his ass at Trick or Trouble, pinned him 1-2-3 in the center of the ring!

RN: the fans voted Chris Benoit as their choice to wrestle Kurt Angle tonight for the World Heavyweight Title. That was out of my control...

BL: It was plenty in your control! This Election Special crap was your stupid idea!

RN: I know you're frustrated, Brock, and you're right, you do deserve a title shot. Your resume' is one of the most impressive on the roster. So I'll tell you what I'm going to do for you. Tonight, due to your victory over him at Trick or Trouble, if Chris Benoit defeats Kurt Angle to become the World Heavyweight champion tonight on Explosion, you will get your title shot against him at Glory on November 21!

BL: Oh, I can make sure that happens...

RN: BUT... but if you get involved in any way, Brock, I'm talking even showing your face out there to watch the match, you not only will NOT receive the title shot at Glory, but you will not be eligible for a title shot for a calendar year. Do we have a deal, Brock?

BL: Yeah, we got a deal. As long as you tell this big oaf [Indicates Morgan] to stop staring at me or I'm going to take that stupid suit of his and shove it up his...

RN: Stop staring at him, Matt! You may go, Brock.

[After staring down Morgan for a moment, Lesnar leaves. Cut back to the ring.]

Match #6
Rey Mysterio Jr./Paul London (Cruiserweight champion) vs. Billy Kidman/"Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels (Television champion) (w/ Daffney)
We had a great fast-paced tag team match between four men who have a lot of issues as Rey Mysterio Jr. teamed with the Cruiserweight champion Paul London to take on Billy Kidman and Television champion Christopher Daniels. During the course of this match, we were informed that a final rematch has been signed for Glory pitting Christopher Daniels against Rey Mysterio Jr. for the Television Title. Even though the title wasn't on the line tonight, Mysterio still has a lot of frustrations to take out on Daniels, especially after the way he was screwed out of the Television Title last week in the ladder match. Paul London and Billy Kidman also have their problems, after their team's less than friendly parting of ways. Kidman has been going around claiming that London defeating him at Trick or Trouble was nothing more than a fluke. It also must be noted that it was Rey Mysterio Jr. that London defeated to win the Cruiserweight Title back in August, so it was interesting to see how these two would coexist in this one.

Despite both teams having little tag team experience (if any) teaming with each other, they both worked well together in this match. You could even tell that Mysterio and London had worked on a lot of tag team strategy this week, as they hit several impressive tandem moves on Kidman and Daniels that caught the hell duo off guard. Daniels and Kidman had a few tricks up heir sleeves as well, mostly involving illegal methods to gain the advantage, but even if they're not the most noble of tactics, it's hard to question their effectiveness. However, it would be the high-flying skills that these four possess that brought this match to a conclusion. Late in the match, things began to break down as all four men were in the ring. London and Mysterio were in control after they dumped Daniels to the floor. Mysterio got a running start, and London helped propel Mysterio into the air for a beautiful somersault plancha onto the Television champion! Daniels was out of it, but London didn't see Kidman behind him, and when London turned around, he turned right into the BK Bomb. Kidman dragged London to the corner and hit him with the Shooting Star Press. Mysterio was unable to make the save in time, and Billy Kidman had pinned Paul London.

Billy Kidman and Christopher Daniels defeated Paul London and Rey Mysterio Jr. when Kidman pinned London with the Shooting Star Press in 0:09:04.
Rating: *** 3/4

Because of Kidman's pinning of London tonight, he has been granted one more chance to capture the Cruiserweight Title at Glory. Billy Kidman has vowed to not let the Cruiserweight Title slip out of his grasp a second time.

Match #7
World Tag Team Title Match
Managers Banned From Ringside
The Basham Brothers (c) vs. The Hardy Boyz
The Hardy Boyz have had two opportunities to take the World Tag Team Titles from the Basham Brothers, but both of those chances have been marred with interference and thus, Matt and Jeff Hardy have been unable to secure the titles. With Shaniqua and Lita banned from ringside in this one though, we were looking to have a decisive winner once and far all. Shaniqua not being there certainly hurt the Bashams, as Matt and Jeff were able to put all of their attention on the champions and not worry about what was happening at ringside. You'll be hard pressed to find a team that works as well together as the Hardy Boyz. They always know where the other is and what the other is thinking at all times and it makes them a hard tag team to get a bead on.

The Bashams seemed a little lost without Shaniqua there to guide them. They're team skills were not nearly as crisp as they usually are, and the Hardyz were picking them apart. It goes to show just how valuable a good manager can be. At one point, Shaniqua tried to come down to ringside, completely ignoring the edict that banned her in the first place! Shaniqua's visit to ringside was temporary though, as MATT MORGAN was sent down to remove her, which he did by lifting her on his shoulder and carrying her to the back. The Bashams showed though that even without Shaniqua, they still had a few tricks up their proverbial sleeves. Late in the contest, the Hardyz looked like they had the match wrapped up when Matt hit Danny Basham with the Twist of Fate. Jeff Hardy went to the top for the Swanton Bomb, but before he could, Doug Basham shoved him off the top rope from the ring apron, causing the Charismatic Enigma to crash hard into the guardrail. Matt Hardy went after Doug Basham, but he was caught from behind by a wounded Danny Basham with a chop block. Doug went to the top and flew off with a flying legdrop, and just like that, this one was over.

Match with Managers Banned From Ringside:
The Basham Brothers (Doug Basham and Danny Basham) defeated The Hardy Boyz (Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy) when Doug Basham pinned M. Hardy after a flying legdrop in 0:12:16.
Rating: ***
(The Basham Brothers retained the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

Almost immediately after the bell rang, Shaniqua was back out, directing Doug and Danny to continue their assault. The Bashams picked Matt Hardy up and stuffed him with the Ball And Gag Bomb as Shaniqua picked up Jeff Hardy and tossed him back in the ring. Jeff was about to get the same treatment when THE WORLD'S GREATEST TAG TEAM was down to the ring to break it up! As Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin fight with the World Tag Team champions, out came TEAM CANADA! Soon after that, THE ITALIAN STALLIONS, ROB CONWAY AND NICK DINSMORE, and THE RING CREW EXPRESS were all out and for the second week in a row, we had a huge tag team brawl! Everybody was hitting anyone they could find to hit. Even LITA got in on the action, running down and once again brawling with Shaniqua. The GCW Official Brigade once again had to separate all of these teams which was a lot easier said than done. We have since gotten word from the office of GCW President Ryan Niemiller that there will be a huge announcement involving the tag team division next week on Monday Night Explosion.

[We are taken backstage to where we see the odd pairing of Booker T and Goldust. They are making their way to a conference room.]

BT: Where are we goin', man?

G: I've got a surprise for you.

BT: A surprise? I don't want no damn surprise! We should be wrestlin' matches!

G: Not yet. I want this partnership to work. We have the potential to be the greatest tag team ever, but that's not going to happen unless we're on the same page. That's why I've hired someone.

[Booker and Goldust are outside the conference room in question.]

BT: Hired someone?

G: That's right. Someone who will bring us closer together. Let's go in... we're late!

[Goldust swings the door open and pulls Booker T in before he can react. A small old man in glasses, wearing a big cheesy sweater is standing there.]

DW: Hi, Booker, Goldust. My name is Dr. Warren, and I will be your marriage counselor tonight.

BT: Our WHAT!?

G: Team counselor! Team counselor!

DW: Please, sit down so we can begin.

[Booker gives Goldust a cold stare before he finally sits down. Goldust does the same.]

DW: Now Goldust. We were speaking earlier and you told me that you and Booker T are having communication problems. Would you mind elaborating on that a bit?

G: Well, Booker is always so distant. I try to talk to him, but he never returns my phone calls. I'll get a busy signal every time I call!

DW: Booker, why is this?

BT: I've had to keep my phone off the hook 'cause this gold freak will call at all times of the damn night!

G: And he calls me names! You see that?

DW: And how does it make you feel when Booker calls you these names?

G: It makes me feel...

DW: Don't tell me... tell him, Goldust.

[Goldust turns toward Booker.]

G: Booker, when you call me names, it really hurts me a lot. We may be from different worlds, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't hurt my feelings when you say things like that. I'm still human!

BT: You have got to be kiddin' me...

DW: In any good marriage...

BT: WHAT!?

G: Team!

DW: In any good TEAM... it is important that you respect your partner's feelings, their wants, their needs, their desires...

[At the sound of "desires," Goldust starts to fondle his chest a little. Booker T catches sight of this.]

BT: Man, will you stop that, you sick freak!?

G: Stop what?

BT: Man, I've had enough of this.

[Booker T gets up and storms out, slamming the door on his way. Goldust and Dr. Warren stare at each other silently for a moment.]

G: I think that went well.

DW: Yes.

[Goldust smiles cluelessly before we cut back to the ring for our main event.]

Match #8
MAIN EVENT
World Heavyweight Title Match
Kurt Angle (c) vs. "The Crippler" Chris Benoit
Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit have battled all throughout 2004, wrestling each other all across the country. The matches have been very evenly matched with Angle and Benoit splitting the decisions fairly equally. Kurt Angle won the World Heavyweight Title from Chris Benoit back in July, and there is nothing more that the Rabid Wolverine wanted than to regain the title here tonight. Angle was at a disadvantage from the get-go in this match, as he had no idea that he was going to be facing Benoit tonight. He had to prepare for Brock Lesnar, Shawn Michaels, and AJ Styles as well. Benoit, on the other hand, didn't know he would win the vote, but he knew that there was only one man he could possibly wrestle tonight, and that was the World Heavyweight champion. Despite his attitude, Angle is a wonderful champion, and if anyone could prepare for four wrestlers in a week, it's him.

Angle is a tremendous competitor, no one will deny that. But if there's one major knock you can have against his wrestling skills is that often he becomes so focused on wearing down the leg of an opponent to set up for the Ankle Lock that he becomes one-dimensional, and that's something you can't do against an elite technical wrestler like Chris Benoit. Benoit had Angle well scouted, and he was able to counter most of Angle's attempts to work over the leg. Angle became almost obsessed with working Benoit's leg, and it made him make a lot of uncharacteristic mistakes. Though Angle got some offense in, the tone of this match seemed to indicate that Benoit was on his way to becoming the World Heavyweight champion for a second time. Benoit hit the triple German suplexes on Angle and went up top for the swandive headbutt late, but Angle got a burst of energy and fell into the ropes, causing Benoit to crotch himself on the top turnbuckle and fall hard back into the ring. Angle tried to get back to his feet, using referee Jimmy Appleseed to pull himself up and inadvertently (or at least we think so) distracted him. Benoit's leg was hanging over the edge of the ring apron after his hard fall, which put him in perfect position for AJ STYLES to run out with a chair in hand and blast the Crippler's prone leg! Benoit screamed in pain, clutching his left leg after that malicious chair shot from AJ Styles! Benoit was in no position to get back to his feet, and Angle smartly went right on the attack by locking on the Ankle Lock. Benoit's leg was obviously hurt, and Benoit had no choice but to uncharacteristically tap out.

Kurt Angle made Chris Benoit submit to the Ankle Lock in 0:15:56.
Rating: *** 1/2
(Kurt Angle retained the GCW World Heavyweight Title.)

Kurt Angle somehow managed to escape Des Moines, Iowa with his World Heavyweight Title still in tow, but part of that victory should be awarded to AJ Styles. What possible reason would Styles have for costing Benoit the World Heavyweight Title? We hope to have some light shed on this situation next week on Explosion.

The first matches for the November 21, 2004 pay-per-view event, Glory, have been signed! Let's take a look at the matches signed so far from the Midsouth Coliseum in Memphis, Tennessee!

North American Title Match - "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown (c) vs. Sean O'Haire

Television Title Match - "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels (c) vs. Rey Mysterio Jr.

Cruiserweight Title Match - Paul London (c) vs. Billy Kidman

More matches will be announced as they are signed, but it's already shaping up to be another quality outing from Global Championship Wrestling!

Wow, didn't see Benoit tapping out. BUt then again, a chairshot to your leg can make everyone tap out.
The Super Mario Stallions was cool, nice to see a lot of comedy segments. The Jericho-calls-people-by-the-wrong-name routine works perfectly. Ricky Morton  ;D
I do find it a little strange that the leader of the Prophecy has the TV title, while the enforcer has a North-America Title shot (I think that is the more prestigious, am I right? )
Then again, O'Haire is more of monster than Daniels.
I am glad to see Rey getting a second shot, though I don't think he will beat the Fallen Angle this time either.

Great show, and I hope we will see more of Chris Hero, he rocks!

And can I predict a Tag Team Scramble for Glory?
Snabbit888Posted on 02/05/05 at 17:34:19

You may.

:)

And yes, the North American Title is more prestigous.  O'Haire's just exacting his frustrations that he didn't get a straight up shot for the title when he won the 20-man battle royal to face Lance Storm at Retribution (Storm got hurt before that match).

Bonoit won?  I could have sworn I saw 3 for Styles and 2 for Benoit in the official voting thread!  I demand a recount!

Skipper and Low Ki are definately rising through the rankings.  They deserve it, too.  Skipper is a great all around athlete and Low Ki remains one of the most explosive wrestlers on the indy scene today.  Pity they had to go over the Super Mario Stallions, though.

...

Hey!  You stole the Mario thing from me!

Credible KILLS Tommy Dreamer!  Where was the Revolution!?!  Oh yeah.  Out with injury.  Except Perry Saturn... hmm...

Rock/Paper/Scissors!  And Orton goes over JBL in a huge upset, with JBL once again failing to snap his losing streak.  Poor Bradshaw!  All this hype, and he couldn't get a win to save his life.  I think Eric Angle swiped his wins.

I still love the Eric Angle... er... angle.  Despite a tough battle and failing to take the NA Title, Angle keeps his winning streak alive with a DQ when Eddie Guerrero clobbers him with a chair!  Can't wait for the match between these two.  Will Eddie finally end Angle's winning streak?

Kidman and Daniels over London and Rey Rey.  Good combination of two feuds, and good storyline progression with Kidman pinning London to get another shot at the title.  Haven't decided yet who will win this one.  I'm leaning towards London getting a decisive victory to blow off the feud because he still needs about a year atop the Cruiserweight division before he'll be ready to move up the ranks, I think.

Bashams retain their titles against The Hardy Boyz.  There's a z instead of an s there because it means they're XTREEEEEEEM!!!!1!1  Anyway, the Bashams get a strong victory here without the help of Shaniqua, which just goes to show that with or without interference, they're a damn strong team!

Wonderful Goldust sketch as always.

Benoit vs. Angle!  Booooo!  Styles was robbed!  (Wait, did I just boo a Benoit vs. Angle match?!?)  And it looks like Styles is joining the Sensationals, just like I predicted!  Does that mean they're going to change their name to the Phenomenals?

Tag Team main event at your next PPV?  I've never really been a fan of that just because it doesn't seem like anything you couldn't see on TV if they wanted to give it to you then.  I'll reserve judgement until I see the match, though, because the feud IS pretty hot.

People read GCW from other mediums other than these Forums, Eric.  Geez!

And yes, I stole the Mario thing from you... what do you think about that, sparky!?

We may find out what Saturn thinks about Dreamer's maiming very soon...

I think more feuds need to be settled with Rock/Paper/Scissors.

If anyone's going to end Eric Angle's winning streak, it may be a pissed off Eddie.

I like the position the Hardyz are in.  hey're a team I can use to put over some other teams, but at any time if the Hardyz pull out a big victory, it won't ever seem ridiculous.

I didn't think the Booker/Goldust stuff was my best work this week, but it'll do.

I generally don't like a straight up tag as the main event, but I'm willing to give it a chance to see what I can do with it.

Thanks for the stellar feedback as always, love sponge.

First of all Snabby, I'm flattered you missed me. :-*

Hmmm, the way the interview came across made it look like Orton and Jericho could be more than a one off team. I'm thinking they should take the match at the PPV, with Jericho getting the fall on Angle to earn a title shot. Either way, it's the obvious series of matches to go with.

The Bashams have really been built up as a legitimate force as tag champions - I suspect they'll retain in whatever big every-tag-team-on-the-roster match you have planned and drop it when the time is right. The Hardys, like you say, are your big team mostly used to put other teams over - reminds me of the Legion of Dooms WWF stint in the late 90's when they spent most of the time putting everyone else over but when the time called for it, they were given a run as champions. Now you just need to keep the balance between the Hardys being the ones to put teams over and them being glorified jobbers.

If there's one thing I always enjoy, it's the Booker/Goldust skits. Don't put yourself down too much, this one was pretty funny.

No Shawn Michaels this week?

There would have been easier ways for Eric Angle to get noticed, but at least the point has been put across and he can start building some momentum. NA champion by the years end perhaps?

And speaking of Erics, if that's your attitude with other peoples ideas, I'll have to start pinching yours. ;)
Snabbit888Posted on 02/09/05 at 21:41:26

Hey, steal whatever you like, when you like.  I mean, much like he did to Anubis, Vince steals my ideas all the time (I had the Orton face turn planned before WWE did it... Vince hacked into my computer!), so why wouldn't I want you to steal them?  You're a comic genius, my friend!  Pinch away!

The way I'm running with Shawn Michaels is that his body is starting to wear down.  I'm using some of the real life stuff to slowly cut his time back to make room for other guys, but still keep him in the spotlight.  His back problems are reoccuring in GCW, and he does have a new baby as of August, so his schedule is being cut back a bit while still keeping him relevant.

And yes, there would have been easier ways for Eric Angle to get noticed, but I also hadn't anticipated my original Black Tiger being put on the shelf for a year with a neck injury. :)
