[GCW] Trick or Trouble - 10/24/04

Snabbit888Posted on 01/20/05 at 06:04:47

Welcome everyone to the Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada! We had a sold out crowd ready to see Trick or Trouble! We had a huge card for this our 7th pay-per-view spectacular, including all five titles being up for grabs! Our first match was set to be one of those title matches, as Christopher Daniels put the Television Title on the line against former champion Rey Mysterio Jr.!

* * * * *

[Rey Mysterio Jr. is in the ring waiting for Christopher Daniels, eager to make an attempt to regain the Television Title. However, when "Crazy Little Voices" by Ra plays, out comes Sean O'Haire and Daffney, but the Fallen Angel is nowhere to be found. Daffney is clutching the Television Title like it's her firstborn. O'Haire is in his wrestling gear. What is this all about? Mysterio looks weary as O'Haire and Daffney get in the ring, the former snatching the microphone away from William Buck.]

SO: I'm sorry to disappoint you, Mysterio, but my mentor, Christopher Daniels, is not here tonight. He doesn't need to soil himself with your destruction, Mysterio. It's not a part of His master plan.

[The crowd is booing the fact that Daniels isn't here, but no one is as upset about this as Rey Mysterio Jr.]

SO: But not to worry, Mysterio. Your destruction is still imminent, and it is going to happen right now at the hands of me! But I'm not telling you anything you don't already know...

[With that, O'Haire throws the microphone down and charges at Mysterio, who sidesteps and brings the big man down with a drop toe hold. Daffney shrieks loudly as she jumps out of the ring. Referee Antonio Santangelo calls for the bell.]

Match #1
Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Sean O'Haire (w/ Daffney)
Rey Mysterio Jr. expected to be getting his hands on Christopher Daniels and getting his chance to regain the Television Title. Instead, Daniels wasn't in the building for undisclosed reasons and Mysterio had to deal with the Fallen Angel's henchman, Sean O'Haire. Mysterio didn't seem much to mind though as he wants to take care of all of the Prophecy, and in his mind, if he has to go through O'Haire to get to Daniels, so be it. The main problem for Mysterio is that he came into Calgary prepared to wrestle Christopher Daniels. O'Haire is a much bigger man that Daniels and wrestles a completely different style, so he had a lot to overcome on the fly. O'Haire didn't have this problem as I'm sure the Prophecy had this planned out for awhile.

O'Haire had the simple objective of keeping Mysterio grounded and put a beating on the high-flier, and for much of the match, he accomplished that. O'Haire did an excellent job of countering Mysterio's offense with his huge size advantage. Mysterio knows how to wrestle competitors who are bigger than him though, because at 5'6", 175 pounds, most opponents are bigger than him. Mysterio took a beating, but in the end, his speed gave him the advantage as he used O'Haire's momentum against him to duck a lariat attempt, drop O'Haire onto the second rope and nail him with the 6-1-9. Moments later, the West Coast Pop was hit, and Mysterio was victorious.

Rey Mysterio Jr. pinned Sean O'Haire with the West Coast Pop in 0:10:09.
Rating: *** 1/2

When this plan was devised by the Prophecy, I'm sure this is not how they anticipated it going. To make matters worse for them, a match has been signed for Explosion tomorrow night which will pit Christopher Daniels against Rey Mysterio Jr. for the Television Title, but with two added stipulations. Number one, if Daniels doesn't show up for this match, not only will he be stripped of the Television Title, but he will be suspended for 90 days! And number two, it will be a ladder match! There will be no running for the Fallen Angel now.

Match #2
The Hurricane vs. Abyss (w/ Shaniqua) vs. Steve "Who's Your Daddy?" Bradley
The next match would prove to be a very interesting contest as we had a triple threat match between The Hurricane, Abyss, and Steve Bradley. Right from the get-go, this looked like a huge uphill climb for The Hurricane as Abyss and Bradley are two of the most vicious individuals in Global Championship Wrestling. But the one thing the Man In Green did have going for him is that Abyss and Bradley were both so focused on beating the hell out of each other that they often forgot about him, allowing him to get in many flurries of offense. But many times, even if those instances, he Hurricane would quickly be dispatched with a high impact move.

It seemed for a lot of this match, Abyss and Bradley were impervious to pain. They were so focused on inflicting pain on each other that they didn't slow down, brawling all over the ringside area (needless to say, referee Petey Pluck gave them a lot of leeway). Shaniqua also proved to be very influential in this match, taking cheap shots on more than one occasion on both Steve Bradley and The Hurricane. But after all of the punishment they were taking, it was only a matter of time before these men started to slow, and when they did, The Hurricane took advantage. Abyss had thrown Bradley hard into the ringpost late in the match before tossing him back in the ring. As he tried to get in the ring to finish the job, The Hurricane caught him, crotching him on the middle rope. Abyss was stunned long enough for The Hurricane to blast him with the Shining Wizard, knocking the behemoth to the floor. The Hurricane had a lot of momentum, but it was cut short when Bradley caught him with a kick to the midsection. Bradley went for the Smashmouth, but the Man In Green spun out of it and hit the Eye of the Hurricane out of nowhere. Shaniqua tried desperately to get Abyss to his feet, but he was dead weight on the outside, allowing The Hurricane to pin Bradley and pull out the huge upset!

Triangle Match:
The Hurricane defeated Abyss and Steve Bradley when Hurricane pinned S. Bradley with the Eye Of The Hurricane in 0:14:53.
Rating: **** 1/4

The Hurricane got out of the ring in a hurry as the crowd exploded in approval. Abyss and Steve Bradley had beat on each other so much that the superhero was able to swoop in and sneak out of Trick or Trouble with the win. Knowing how they are, I don't think this is going to sit well with Steve Bradley or Abyss.

[Mario Riviera is standing by with the number-one contender, Randy Orton.]

MR: Randy, later on tonight, you will have the biggest opportunity of your young career when you meet your former friend and partner Kurt Angle for the World Heavyweight Title. How are you feeling going into this match?

RO: How am I feeling? Mario, I'm feeling a lot of things. Happiness, anger... [Points to the wound on his forehead] ... blood lust... but with this huge mix of emotions I'm feeling in my gut right now, I know that by the end of the night, everything will be much more clear. The only thing I'll be feeling is pride, when I walk out of the Saddledome as the NEW World Heavyweight champion!

MR: What are your thoughts about the ultimatum that Kurt Angle gave Chris Jericho this past week on Explosion?

RO: You know, I really don't care. I can't be worrying about anything like that. I don't trust any of them. They all can do whatever the hell they want, but nothing is going to stop me from cementing my status as a legend tonight by taking the World Title! You understand, Mario?

MR: Yes I do.

RO: Good.

MR: Ladies and gentlemen, a very confident Randy Orton. Back to ringside!

Match #3
World Tag Team Title Match
The Basham Brothers (c) (w/ Shaniqua) vs. The Hardy Boyz
Shaniqua was in a foul mood already with Abyss not picking up the win in the previous match, and she wasn't about to let the World Tag Team Titles slip out of her control as the Bashams defended the gold against the Hardy Boyz. Matt and Jeff Hardy have been breathing down the necks of the Bashams for 3 months now, and they finally got their second chance at taking the World Tag Team Titles, defeating the World's Greatest Tag Team last month to earn this shot. The Hardyz came out quickly like we'd expect them too, having the distinct advantage in speed. They also had the experience advantage, as although both teams consist of brothers, Matt and Jeff have been a wrestling team for longer.

The Hardyz obviously aren't being paid by the hour, as they were bowling through the champions. It didn't take long before Danny Basham was down on the mat after Matt Hardy dropped him with the Twist of Fate while Jeff Hardy climbed to the top. Jeff was going to go for the Swanton Bomb, but Shaniqua jumped in the ring and stood between Danny Basham and Jeff Hardy. Referee Jimmy Appleseed tried to move Shaniqua, but Shaniqua would have none of it as she stood her ground. Jeff Hardy was getting frustrated, wanting to finish this match off. Shaniqua taunted the Hardyz, daring them to try to remove her from the ring. The Hardyz are gentlemen and wouldn't hit her, but that didn't stop a woman from jumping out of the crowd to remove Shaniqua from the ring herself in the form of LITA! Lita has made her way to GCW, and she was here to help her longtime friends, Matt and Jeff Hardy! Lita and Shaniqua spilled to the floor, throwing punches at each other wildly the entire time. During this chaos, Doug Basham shoved Jeff Hardy off the top rope, sending him hard into the guardrail on the outside. Matt Hardy went after Doug, but Danny Basham cut him off with a low blow. The Ball And Gag Bomb followed, and the Bashams were still the World Tag Team champions.

The Basham Brothers (Doug Basham and Danny Basham) defeated The Hardy Boyz (Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy) when Doug Basham pinned M. Hardy after the Ball And Gag Bomb in 0:03:47.
Rating: ***
(The Basham Brothers retained the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

The match in the ring was over, but the fight on the outside was still going strong as Lita and Shaniqua were ripping into each other. The GCW Official Brigade ran in and separated these two ladies, but it took a lot of effort to pull these two apart. The Bashams are still the champions, but this one has a whole new wrinkle in it.

Match #4
"Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero vs. Black Tiger
Eddie Guerrero has been tortured for months by this strange masked man. Adopting the mask of Guerrero's former gimmick Black Tiger, this man has put Latino Heat through hell, causing Eddie to turn on family and friends alike. Eddie would finally have his chance to get his hands on Black Tiger, one-on-one, and he had vowed to remove this man's mask and find out his identity. No low rider and no flare from Guerrero tonight, as he was all business. As soon as Black Tiger was in the ring, Eddie was all over him. I haven't seen a match quite this one-sided in a long time, as Guerrero was so blinded with rage, that Black Tiger hardly had time to breathe in between shots from Latino Heat. Black Tiger tried to escape on more than one occasion, but Eddie wasn't about to let that happen, dragging the masked man back into the ring.

Guerrero tossed Tiger all around the ring, taking out months of aggression in the span of a few minutes. Guerrero finally looked to finish Tiger away after hitting him with the Three Amigos and heading to the top for the Frog Splash. Black Tiger didn't have a lot left, but he had enough left in the tank to roll himself away before Eddie could leap. Eddie jumped down from the turnbuckles now even more angry than before. Eddie pulled Black Tiger to his feet and whipped him hard into the turnbuckle. Eddie followed in but Tiger got out of the way. Eddie stumbled out and Black Tiger caught him with a headbutt, and Guerrero fell to the mat like a ton of bricks. Black Tiger quickly covered Latino Heat and got the one, two... three? He pinned him with a headbutt?

Black Tiger pinned Eddie Guerrero after a headbutt in 0:08:38.
Rating: *** 1/2

The crowd was in stunned silence as Black Tiger was declared the winner. Eddie Guerrero had been on the offensive for almost the entire match; how could he have possibly been taken out with one headbutt? We soon found out as Black Tiger reached into his mask and pulled out a small metal plate! Black Tiger had cheated to knock Guerrero out cold! Tiger wasn't done though as he brought Latino Heat back to his feet and hit him with... an Angle Slam? What was going on here? Black Tiger then reached up and took off his own mask to reveal... ERIC ANGLE! Black Tiger has been Eric Angle this entire time! The crowd tore into the elder Angle brother with boos and pelted him with trash. Why would Eric Angle put himself under a match to torture Eddie Guerrero like this? We may know who Black Tiger is now, but there are still a lot of questions to be answered.

[Mario Riviera is standing outside a locker room door.]

MR: I'm standing outside the locker room of Chris Jericho. I'm going to try to get a word with him regarding the comments of Kurt Angle this past Monday on Explosion.

[Rivera knocks on the door.]

MR: Chris Jericho? Chris Jericho? This is Mario Riviera, and I was wondering if I could get a few words with you. [Knocks again.] Jericho!

CJ: [From inside] Go away, ass clown!

[Riviera composes himself, obviously a little flustered from being called an ass clown.]

MR: Well it doesn't look like Chris Jericho is in a talking mood tonight. Joey, Brian, I back to you at ringside!

[Riviera starts talking, not realizing he is still on.]

MR: Ass clown? My mom thinks I'm cool...

[Cut back to the ring.]

Match #5
Cruiserweight Title Match
Paul London (c) vs. Billy Kidman
Paul London and Billy Kidman were the best of friends and looked destined to become future World Tag Team champions. They had a great sense of chemistry that is rarely seen in tag teams in this day and age, but after London defeated Rey Mysterio Jr. to become the Cruiserweight champion, Kidman became jealous of his partner's success, which led to him turning on his partner last month. Kidman has given no explanation for his actions, so London has vowed to beat an explanation out of him tonight. Both of these men know each other so well, having teamed and traveled together for several months, and thus this match wasn't so much wrestled as it was counter wrestled. Neither London or Kidman could seem to string together a series of offensive moves because they each had a counter for just about everything.

In a match like this, in order to wear down your opponent, you have to take some risks, and both men are adept at doing just that. London hit Kidman with his beautiful somersault plancha, which earned him a "Please don't die!"chant from the rabid Canadian crowd. Kidman wasn't about to be outdone in the high risk move department though, hitting London with a dangerous springboard shooting star press bodyblock later in the match, nearly wiping himself out in the process. As the match wore on, it looked like Kidman had done a more thorough job of wearing his opponent down, especially after he caught London with the BK Bomb. As Kidman went up top for the Shooting Star Press, we all realized that London was playing a bit of possum (that, and that he can absorb quite a beating) as he got up and crotched Kidman on the top rope, causing Kidman to fall back into the ring. London picked his former partner up and quickly stuffed him with a power bomb that got him a two count. London was persistent though, lifting Kidman up and stuffing him with a second power bomb. This time it was enough to keep Kidman's shoulders to the mat.

Paul London pinned Billy Kidman after a power bomb in 0:07:45.
Rating: *** 1/2
(Paul London retained the GCW Cruiserweight Title.)

Paul London had to work at it, but he successfully defended the Cruiserweight Title in a hard fought contest. Billy Kidman was very close to taking the gold on more than one occasion, but tonight just wasn't his night. I'm sure that he will be looking for another opportunity in the near future.

* * * * *

[William Buck stands alone in the ring.]

WB: Ladies and gentlemen... DAWN MARIE!

[The crowd pops huge as the music of Dawn Marie starts and out from the back comes the beautiful diva. She waves at several fans as she makes her way down to the ring and takes the microphone from William Buck. Buck takes his leave as Marie's music dies down.]

DM: Thank you, William, and thank you Calgary!

[Huge crowd pop from the rabid Canadian fans for the mention of their hometown.]

DM: Up until recently, I was doing the managerial services if Calgary's own Lance Storm.

[Another huge crowd pop for the mention of the former North American champion.]

DM: I've talked with Lance recently and he wanted me to let all of you know that he appreciates all the letters and e-mails he has received from his loyal fans. All of the get well wishes mean a lot to him as he recovers from his torn rotator cuff surgery. It will take a lot of hard work, but in a few months, Lance should be back as good as new!

[Crowd pop]

DM: But in the meantime, while Lance is recovering, he has given me his blessing to go out and find another wrestler's career to assist, another big, strong man I can lead straight to the top. There is a lot of work that needs to be done, but...

[Dawn Marie is cut off by the sound of "Chasing the Dragon" by Ill Bill, which brings out Team Canada. Teddy Hart and Petey Williams make their way to the ring to a solid pop, seeing how we're in Canada after all. Though most of the fans seem to be happy to see the Canadians, Dawn Marie seems less than thrilled.]

DM: If you guys don't mind, this is my interview time and...

[Teddy Hart violently takes the microphone away from Marie.]

TH: Shut up. It's our time now! So why don't you run along now?

[Dawn Marie considers being brave, but thinks better of it as Hart and Williams stare her down. Marie starts to leave the ring.]

TH: Slut...

[The crowd oohs at this comment from Hart. Dawn Marie stops and reenters the ring, getting right in Hart's face.]

DM: What did you call me?

TH: I called you a slut. What are you gonna do about it?

[Dawn Marie reaches back to slap Teddy Hart, but Petey Williams catches her arm.]

PW: I wouldn't do that if I were you.

[Teddy hart and Petey Williams start backing Dawn Marie into a corner. That's when the music of LANCE STORM fires up to an absolutely thunderous ovation. Williams lets go of Marie's wrist as he and Hart turn their attention toward the aisleway and here comes the former North American champion! Everyone in the Saddledome is on their feet as the hometown hero makes his way to the ring. Storm's arm is in a sling as he's in the early stages of recovering from rotator cuff surgery. Storm grabs a second microphone from ringside before getting in the ring.]

LS: It would be in your best interests if you leave her alone!

[Huge crowd pop.]

LS: It takes a couple of real men to come out here and pick on a woman, doesn't it? Is this your way of getting noticed? Come out here in your homeland and act like total jerks? Well congratulations; you got my attention! Now you both should do the smart thing and get out of this ring right now, or else.

PW: Or else what, Lance? You're going to beat us up? Uh oh. The one-armed man is going to beat us up, Teddy! What ever shall we do?

TH: I don't know, Petey! Maybe we should run away and hide!

[Williams and Hart share a good laugh over this. Lance Storm, however, is considerably less amused.]

LS: I've taken out tougher men than you with more severe injuries than this.

[Storm takes a step forward, getting right in Team Canada's collective face. Team Canada back down.]

TH: Hey, all right, Lance. You've made your point. We're sorry. Let's go, Petey.

[Hart and Williams slowly leave the ring and begin backing their way up the aisleway. Lance Storm doesn't take his eyes off of them the entire time. When Team Canada is about halfway up the aisle, out of nowhere, Dawn Marie blasts Storm from behind with a low blow! What in the world is going on here? Hart and Williams smile at each other before running back to the ring. They start stomping on Storm as Dawn Marie grabs the microphone.]

DM: You're so damn predictable, Lance! Sure, it's sad that you got hurt, Lance, but I don't have time to cry over spilled milk. I'm a business woman, and I have to do what's best for business. Meet my new clients, Lance: Teddy Hart and Petey Williams! All I care about is money, and this is where the money is! The hottest young tag team in wrestling! Let's face it, Lance, your body was falling apart BEFORE you hurt your shoulder. You're old news! This... [Points to Team Canada] is the future of Canadian wrestling!

[The crowd is booing wildly now as Teddy Hart locks Storm in the Sharpshooter.]

DM: Look at your hometown hero now!

[The boos are even louder now as it looks like some of the fans could riot at any time. Garbage is starting to be thrown into the ring. Finally the GCW Official Brigade comes in and breaks this up, but Lance Storm looks to be in bad shape. Barry Tarver and the medical staff are down as well as Storm is holding that injured shoulder of his as well. What's more disturbing is that Team Canada and Dawn Marie are laughing about it. Team Canada is taken to the back. Lance Storm is helped up and helped to the back, but he's in obvious pain.]

Match #6
If Booker T loses, he has to be Goldust's partner
Booker T vs. Goldust
Goldust had everything to gain and nothing to lose in this match. Goldust has for all intents and purposes been stalking Booker T, and essentially tricked him into accepting this match where if Goldust wins, Booker has to be his partner! Booker T got a little carried away this past week on Explosion, wanting to take his frustrations out on somebody, and even though he was able to defeat John Bradshaw Layfield, he suffered a considerable amount of damage to his shoulder which was taped up. As many of you know, if you have a body part taped up, you might as well be wearing a bullseye as that's where your opponent is going to focus. We've said it time and time again, but people often forget just how dangerous Goldust can be. They see his strange behavior and his flamboyant ring attire and assume he's a pushover. We got a reminder to the contrary tonight.

For as much as Goldust seems to be infatuated with Booker, he certainly didn't cut him any slack, attacking Booker's injured arm in brutal fashion, showing absolutely no remorse. Goldust used the entire ring and ringside area to his advantage to wear Booker down. To Booker T's credit, he fought as hard as he could to win this match, but with an opponent like Goldust, it's too much to ask when you are fighting with essentially just one arm. Goldust's ruthless attacks were enough to wear Booker T down to the point that a Fujiwara armbar was too much for Booker to withstand, and he did something that he rarely ever does: submit.

Goldust made Booker T submit to a Fujiwara armbar in 0:12:49.
Rating: ****

Goldust began to celebrate like he was just crowned Miss America (and I'm sure with Goldust, that's one of his dreams anyway). When Booker T finally came back around and realized what had happened, he looked absolutely crushed (well, that and disgusted when Goldust gave him a huge hug). Booker T now has to be the partner of Goldust, and with Goldust, who knows exactly what that means? Regardless, this is going to be a long few months for Booker T, I'm sure.

Match #7
North American Title Tournament - Finals
"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown vs. "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles
The North American Title had been vacant for the past 41 days before tonight due to Lance Storm's torn rotator cuff he suffered back in September. A 16-man tournament was set up, and we had the finals as Monty Brown took on AJ Styles. Brown defeated Randy Orton, Sean O'Haire, and Chris Jericho on the road to this match, whereas Styles had to go through Eddie Guerrero, Chris Hero, and The Hurricane to earn his right to wrestle for the title. Styles has tasted gold in GCW before, being the first Television champion and holding the title for three and a half months. He would love to add the North American Title to his resume', but of course, Monty Brown wasn't going to just step aside and let Styles have it.

The Alpha Male exerted his will early, using his strength to throw Styles around the ring with some very basic but very effective hiptosses. Styles is very crafty and innovative though and although he hasn't been in the business for that long, he wrestles like a veteran and used his speed and technique to counter Brown's power. The crowd was really into this match as both men pulled out everything in their playbook to try to secure the victory and the title. Both men refused to stay down, including Styles kicking out of a huge power bomb from Brown and Brown kicking out of Styles' spiral tap. This match was up in the air until the final move. Styles had dropped Brown with a huge enzuigiri and went for the Styles Clash, but Brown still had enough in the tank to power out of it. Styles tried for a clothesline, but Brow ducked and booted the Phenomenal One in the midsection. Brown hit the ropes and nailed the Pounce! Brown can pull that move out of nowhere just like that, and Styles wasn't about to kick out of that.

Match for the vacant GCW North American Title:
Monty Brown pinned AJ Styles with the Pounce in 0:07:51.
Rating: **** 1/4
(Monty Brown won the GCW North American Title.)

The crowd came to its feet as referee JD Sanders presented Monty Brown with the North American Title, his first championship in Global Championship Wrestling. AJ Styles came within an eyelash of winning on several occasions, but this wasn't his night as Monty Brown is the last man standing. This should have been a great moment for him, but it was cut short when SEAN O'HAIRE made his second unexpected appearance of the night, blasting Brown in the back with a chair! Brown was already exhausted from the match and was in no position to fight back, especially after being blindsided by an angry chair-wielding O'Haire! O'Haire still feels like the North American Title should have been given to him instead of this tournament, and he's taking his frustrations out on Brown because of it! AJ Styles quickly got out of there because he knows that had he won, O'Haire would probably be beating him with a chair instead. O'Haire finally left on his own accord, but not before dropping Brown with the Prophecy. Monty Brown was in bad shape, but he managed to walk to the back under his own power.

Match #8
"The Crippler" Chris Benoit vs. Brock Lesnar
Many people were looking at this match to possibly steal the show as Chris Benoit and Brock Lesnar went one-on-one. Nothing on the line in this match except pride as two of the toughest and technically sound wrestlers in the world went toe-to-toe. These two don't like each other very much, but from the opening bell it was very obvious how much respect these two have for one another. Both the Crippler and the Monster From Minnesota were tentative in the beginning, engaging in a feeling out process that consisted of a lot of mat wrestling and counters with neither man gaining a clear advantage. Benoit and Lesnar are tremendous technical wrestlers, and the early going was a game of "Can you top this?" We knew it would only be a matter of time before one man got frustrated, and that was Lesnar after Benoit got the better of him on several occasions. Lesnar threw away the technical wrestling and caught Benoit with a quick kneelift and went on the attack.

Not only are these two great technical wrestlers, but both men have an exceptional amount of stamina as well. Lesnar was pulling out everything in his arsenal to put Benoit away, but Benoit refused to stay down and kept fighting back. By the end of this match, Lesnar's chest was beat red from all of the chops he had endured at the hands of the Rabid Wolverine. For all the offense that Lesnar dished out in this match, he received just as much back from Benoit. Lesnar took at least six brutal German suplexes from Benoit, but just like Benoit, he refused to stay down. Late in the match, Benoit thought he had Lesnar beaten when he locked in the Sharpshooter to a huge ovation from the crowd, but Lesnar simply would not tap out. Lesnar was trapped in the hold for over a minute before he was able to crawl to the ropes. Benoit wisely didn't rest on his laurels but went right back on the attack, hitting Lesnar with another German suplex before giving the cut throat motion. Benoit climbed to the top turnbuckle as quickly as he could, but he had taken a lot of abuse, so it took him longer than usual to get into position. Therefore, when Benoit jumped off for the swandive headbutt, Lesnar was able to roll out of the way, causing Benoit to crash into the mat hard. Both men slowly made it to their feet, where Lesnar hoisted Benoit on his shoulders for the F-5, but Benoit reversed it and brought Lesnar down in the Crippler Crossface! The crowd was on its feet, just waiting for Lesnar to tap, but the Monster refused to do so. Lesnar somehow was able to get himself to his knees while the relentless Benoit wrenched back on his neck. Lesnar would then show us how scary powerful he is as after over 25 minutes of hard-hitting action, Lesnar had enough strength left to get to his feet while in the Crippler Crossface, grab Benoit and spin him down to the mat with the F-5! An exhausted Lesnar threw an arm over Benoit and got a hard earned victory over the former World Heavyweight champion.

Brock Lesnar pinned Chris Benoit with the F-5 in 0:26:01.
Rating: **** 1/4

Both men laid motionless on the match for awhile as the fans in Calgary gave them a standing ovation for their efforts tonight. Chris Benoit and Brock Lesnar both put their bodies on the line and showed us just how much GCW meant to them. This was a huge victory for Lesnar, who is still looking for his opportunity to wrestle for the World Heavyweight Title. Chris Benoit may have come out on the losing end of this one, but he has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of as he wrestled one hell of a match. But tonight was Lesnar's night, and Benoit showed how much class he has by giving Lesnar a nod of respect before heading to the back. If the main event turned out anything like this one, we were in for a treat.

[We see Booker T in his street clothes carrying a bag in his right arm. He is holding his injured left arm close to his body. He is also carrying car keys and mumbling incoherently to himself, but his demeanor is obvious: complete anger. About 30 feet behind him is Goldust.]

G: Hey Booker, where are you going?

BT: Stay the hell away from me, man!

G: Now I know you're upset right now, but let's talk this out!

BT: There ain't nothin' to talk about, sucka!

G: But we're partners now! That's what partners do! They talk! If we don't have good lines of communication, this relationship is never going to work, Booker!

BT: Good!

G: Oh c'mon now! You don't mean that!

[Booker is at his car now. He opens up the trunk and tosses the bag in violently.]

G: Oh, do be careful! You're going to hurt yourself more! Here, let me give you a shoulder massage!

[Goldust reaches for Booker's shoulders, prompting Booker to freak out.]

BT: Don't touch me, man! What's the matter wit' you!?

G: I'm just trying to help! And partners give each other shoulder massages all the time! Didn't Stevie Ray give you shoulder massages?

BT: No! That's my brotha, you sick freak!

G: I just thought maybe...

BT: I'm outta here, sucka.

[Booker T gets in the car and slams the door shut, quickly pulling away before Goldust can even react.]

G: Well... er... um... call me!

[Cut back to the ring as we see Booker's car turn out of the camera's sight.]

Match #9
MAIN EVENT
World Heavyweight Title Match
Kurt Angle (c) vs. Randy Orton
All that was left was the main event, and what a terrific match it ended up being as Kurt Angle defended his World Heavyweight Title against a man who only a month ago was one of his running buddies in the Sensationals, Randy Orton. All things considered, Orton had his emotions under control. A lot of these matches were emotionally fueled tonight, but the young Orton managed to keep his cool as he knew that if he didn't, a wrestler like Angle would eat him alive. In the early stages of the match, Orton used Angle's infamous arrogance against him. Angle used a tactic he has been known to use in he past and that's keeping it on the mat to start a match. Angle's expertise on the mat is no secret, and he can usually goad opponents into wrestling on the mat with him because hey, if you can out wrestle a former Olympic gold medal winner, that will earn you quite the reputation with the boys in the locker room. Orton used this to his advantage. Orton wrestled on the mat with Angle a couple times, and as you would expect, Angle got the better of him. The third time, Orton challenged Angle to let him start out on top with the champion down in the referee's position. The cocky Angle smirked and dropped to his hands and knees as Orton circled around him. But instead of wrestling with Angle, Orton kicked Angle hard in the ribs! Orton jumped all over Angle, nailing him with hard rights and lefts. Angle managed to roll out of it and roll out of the ring to take a powder, but this was important as Orton had thrown Angle out of his game.

Orton had Angle wrestling his match now, and he was looking to take full advantage. Now don't get me wrong, Angle still got in his share of offense and worked over Orton's leg, but it was obvious that the challenger was controlling the pace of this match. Angle was forced to brawl a lot more than I'm sure he wanted to, especially since head referee Jimmy Appleseed was giving this important match a lot of leeway, giving both competitors liberal use of the ringside area. By the halfway point of this match, Orton had busted Angle open after slamming him head first into the ringpost, returning the favor to the champion for the multiple bleedings of the past month. Angle was losing a lot of blood, but he kept fighting back. It didn't hurt that STEVE BRADLEY came down to ringside to assist the champion. Referee Appleseed made certain that Bradley didn't get physically involved, but Orton had to keep an eye on Bradley at all times.

In the last part of the match, Angle had been working on Orton's leg in preparation for the Ankle Lock, but once again, Angle's ego got the better of him. Kurt has shown an affinity for using the moonsault in big matches, using it to finish off Rey Mysterio Jr. last month at Retribution. Instead of going for the Ankle Lock when he had the chance, he climbed to the top for his moonsault, but Orton got a second wing, got to his feet, and crotched Angle on the top turnbuckle. Orton climbed to the second turnbuckle with Angle still up top and brought him crashing to the mat with a belly-to-back superplex, but it took a lot out of him too as he was unable to capitalize with a cover. Both men made it to their feet at about the same time. Angle threw a wild right hand at Orton, but the Legend Killer blocked it and fired back with a right of his own. Another punch from Angle, another block and another return from Orton. Orton whipped Angle into the ropes and nailed him with a high dropkick. Orton crouched down and signaled that it was time for the R.K.O. Angle slowly got to his feet, allowing Orton to go for the R.K.O., but Angle shoved him off into the ropes. Orton came back and was almost caught in the Angle Slam, but Orton slid off his back and dropped Angle with the R.K.O.! The crowd was on its feet as Appleseed counted the one, two, thr... Steve Bradley pulled Orton out to the floor! Bradley took a swing at Orton, but Orton ducked and planted him with the R.K.O. on the floor to a huge pop! Orton rolled back in the ring and went for the cover, but Angle somehow got his shoulder up just before the three! Orton and the crowd were all in disbelief that Angle had kicked out. Orton grabbed Angle by the head and slowly started to pull him back up, but Angle hit him with a low blow out of nowhere! Angle got to his feet and hit the Angle Slam on Orton, and then quickly locked on the Ankle Lock. Orton was screaming in agony as Angle tried to break his ankle. Orton made his way to the ropes and almost made it, but Angle pulled him back into the center of the ring, dropped down to his back and wrapped his legs around Orton's leg. He held on as long as he could, but Orton had no choice but to tap out.

Kurt Angle made Randy Orton submit to the Ankle Lock in 0:19:46.
Rating: **** 3/4
(Kurt Angle retained the GCW World Heavyweight Title.)

Kurt Angle is still the World Heavyweight champion, but he wasn't done with Randy Orton yet as he refused to release the hold! Steve Bradley was back to his feet now as well as he climbed in the ring and started stomping on Orton's back and head. Jimmy Appleseed tried to intervene, but Bradley greeted him less than warmly by tossing him over the top rope to the floor, a move that will surely warrant him a fine. Things looked bleak for Orton until CHRIS JERICHO came down to the ring! But was he here to help Orton or join in the beating? Angle wasn't sure, so he released the hold as Jericho got in the ring. Jericho looked at both Angle and Bradley, and then to Orton. As he looked at Orton, he got a sick smile on his face. He then directed Bradley to lift Orton up to his feet. As Bradley held Orton up, Angle was smiling until Jericho ran into the ropes and nailed Bradley with a forearm instead! The Canadian crowd exploded as Jericho floored Bradley with a clothesline. A disoriented Bradley got back to his feet and charged at Jericho, only for Y2J to sidestep and send Bradley to the floor! Angle yelled, "You son of a bitch!" before lunging at Jericho, but Y2J brought Angle down with a double-leg takedown and locked on the Walls of Jericho! Luckily for Angle, Bradley was back up as he grabbed Angle and pulled him to the safety of the floor. Ladies and gentlemen, I believe the Sensationals have officially imploded! Jericho was helping Orton to his feet as we went off the air. What a way to end a great pay-per-view!

It was indeed a great PPV!
Dawn Marie turning on Lance was pure brilliance, and some of the matches were quite surprising as well, the Hurricane taking home the big upset comes first to mind.

Great writing, I really get the feeling I'm watching a real wrestling show!
Snabbit888Posted on 01/20/05 at 19:29:08

Thanks for the kind words.  The idea for the Dawn Marie came to me as I was setting the final match order for the PPV.  I was just going to do an interview spot with Dawn Marie, and then I realized it was Calgary, so that's Hart country.  Then I realized Storm would be in town too, and it all spun from there.  I'm quite happy with it.
rey619Posted on 01/20/05 at 19:38:20

Yeah, I really hope that Lance will start feuding with team Canada upon returning from his injury, maybe with a partner. Rey stealing the win from Sean O'Haire also made me smile, though it would have been better if it was Christopher Daniels. Well, it will be exciting to see how the ladder match tomorrow goes.
Snabbit888Posted on 01/20/05 at 19:40:25

Daniels no-showed, and as a general rule, I use no-shows as they come (as a general rule... to say I always do would be an out-and-out lie).  Though it wasn't what I wanted to do, the O'Haire replacement with a Ladder Match tomorrow night switch works pretty well, IMO.
Critic of the DawnPosted on 01/22/05 at 01:31:44

Hey!  A no-show!  What a way to start a PPV!

Rey Rey goes over Sean O'Haire.  This makes sense in terms of building up to the Misterio vs. Daniels match at the next show, but it hurts O'Haire's momentum a bit.  It looks like you're positioning him as a contender for the North American Title, and a loss to a contender for the TV title would seem to hurt him a bit.  Then again, Misterio DID just challenge for the World Title...

Hurricane wins!?!  And here I thought that Abyss was going to take it for sure.  Great upset victory there.  Pity Hurricane can't get a bigger break than that, though...

Bashams over HardyZ.  Very nice.  Matt and Jeff are great and all, but their place should be to put over your younger tag teams because of all the success they've had in the past.  I do get the feeling that the Bashams may not be holding on to the titles much longer.

Bwahahaha!  Excellently done with the Black Tiger swerve!  NOBODY had any idea of who it was, and that's just great!  I'd love to see Los Guerreros team up against Black Tiger and El Gran Lunchadore sometime... ;D

London over Kidman!  Woo!  But wait...  I thought that you couldn't power bomb Kidman!?!  He must be slipping...  Still, good stuff.  London needs to go over talented guys like Kidman to help his slow rise to the top.

Dawn Marie turns on Lance Storm and joins "Canada's Greatest Asshat" Teddy Hart and Petey Williams!  Good.  I'm not a big Lance Storm fan, but I do like Dawn Marie.  Hopefully this will start bringing Team Canada up towards the gold sometime in the future.

GOLDUST!  WOO!  Can't wait for the backstage segments!

Brown over Styles.  I predicted Styles to win and join the Sensationals.  Guess I was wrong.  Oh well.  Brown should make a solid North American Champion, and O'Haire should be a solid opponent for him.

Lesnar kills Benoit!  Benoit must have been on the internet!

Angle wins, which is what needed to happen.  Orton will need some build if he's to take the World Title... and I don't think it's going to happen, honestly.  I'm just not feeling it from him.  Jericho's face turn is huge, though.  The Sensationals are exploding!  Not sure where you want to go from this, but it's a good start for building to a Survivor Series type card if that sounds interesting to you...

I'm batting around possibly doing War Games in the not too distant future, but I'm not really sure yet.  I like Orton a lot and he's probably a future World champion, but now isn't that time.  He's still young, so he has plenty of GCW time to reach the top.

Nice work as always my man.

Goldust, as ever, was a big highlight. I even have a strange feeling they're going to end up winning the tag titles, but call me crazy. Now the Hardys have lost their shot, I'm not sure who else is there to step up to the plate.

Eric Angle? OK, THAT one wasn't on my shortlist, but I've been saying for ages that he desperately needed an angle (pun intended) to go with his unbeaten streak so in those regards it makes sense. Of course, these things always require explanations, so we'll have to wait to see what Erics reasonings are.

Speaking of Angles, I'd figured Kurt would retain, now it looks like Jericho is stepping up to the plate. Then again, after the big win for Lesnar, he's earned a shot. I'm not sure who's most likely to take the gold from Angle but it doesn't look like he's dropping it any time soon.

Oooh, I should have seen the Dawn Marie turn coming. Poor Lance. Still, it'll give a boost to Team Canada to move onto a higher plateau, so that's good.

And Monty Brown, if he's not going to be TNA champion, should be a solid North American champion for sure. And Daniels to retain on the next show.
AllPowerfulGARTHPosted on 01/22/05 at 17:52:09

Eric Angle as Black Tiger?  Uh...huh.  That doesn't make a ton of sense to me, but I'll be fair and give you a chance to explain it on the next card before I condemn it.  Not that I would have any BETTER idea who Black Tiger is (as evidenced by my piss-poor guess at it), it's just that Eric Angle has been used as kind of a comedy wrestler for awhile here with his undefeated streak (a lot like Kurt was when he first started with the WWF, come to think of it), so it's hard for me to take him seriously as a more ruthless heel...for now.

Booker T & Goldust were always an interesting combination in WWE, but with the added dynamic of sexually-questionable Goldust, it's going to be even more fun.  91 is right...I could seem them making a run at the tag belts.  They might be just weird enough to take the titles away from the Bashams and Shaniqua.

War Games, eh?  THAT would be interesting.  Orton/Jericho/Benoit/Hurricane vs. Angle/Bradley/Abyss/Lesnar?  That's just my first guess and is probably way off, but hey, what can you do.
Snabbit888Posted on 01/22/05 at 18:59:11

To be honest, Eric Angle wasn't my first choice either, but the injury to Rob Van Dam made me change my plans around a lot.  I thought about making it Chavo, but that was far too simple and cliche'.  I have what I believe are some good justifications for Eric Angle being Black Tiger, but we'll see how it actually plays out.
Critic of the DawnPosted on 01/22/05 at 21:07:48

It being Eric Angle was my idea, by the way.  Just saying. ;D

Shhh... I'm trying to give the veiled impression that you're not a member of the GCW writing team.
