[GCW] High Voltage (ToT Hype) - 10/24/04

Snabbit888Posted on 01/17/05 at 09:44:08

I did this a little bit differently, as there are no full match backstories as I figure hey, most people who will read this read my circuit anyway and know the stories leading to the matches, so it's just fodder anyway.  This will cut out a bit of work for me so I can keep putting out new stuff.  The PPV should be done within a couple of days... I HOPE.  Enjoy, bitches!

Hello everyone and welcome to the Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada! It is October 24, 2004, and that means the wait is over and Trick or Trouble is here! In just one hour, the huge pay-per-view extravaganza would start, a stacked card featuring five title matches. But before that, we had the pre-pay-per-view version of High Voltage! We had one match on High Voltage, as John Bradshaw Layfield looked to get his first win as he took on Justin Credible!

["Longhorn" blares over the speakers as boos start to fill the arena. Out comes the white limo with the bullhorns on it from the back, signaling the arrival of John Bradshaw Layfield. The driver of the limo gets out and opens the door, allowing JBL to emerge to a chorus of boos. He is in his wrestling gear, and of course, not without his signature cowboy hat. JBL waves at the fans, that big goofy grin pasted on his face the entire time. He enters the ring and shakes the hand of William Buck in a very diplomatic fashion. His music dies down and he speaks.]

JBL: Tonight is the night, everybody! Tonight is the night that the man who will be the greatest singles wrestler in GCW history gets things back on the right track. After suffering three embarrassing cheap defeats to inferior competition, tonight, I guarantee that it all turns around. And what better way to do that than by soundly defeating the man who started this gross string of injustices, Justin Credible.

[A moderate pop for Credible.]

JBL: Because this is getting a little ridiculous. It's getting to the point where people are actually laughing at me. That's right! Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it? People laughing at JBL? People should be chanting my name! J-B-L! J-B-L!

[As JBL keeps chanting his own name, the crowd yells "SUCKS!" after each mention of JBL.]

JBL: What!? I do not suck! Absolutely not! You people need to show me some respect! After all, when all is said and done, I'm going to be the greatest wrestler in history, and you're all going to regret that you never showed me the respect I deserved when you had the chance! So let's bring him out so we can get this over with and I can start my skyrocket to the top! Thank you!

["Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck" by Prong plays to a decent pop and out comes Justin Credible. Credible is ready to fight, and JBL realizes this, jumping to the floor. Eventually JBL gets back in the ring as the bell is rang, starting the match.]

Match #1
Justin Credible vs. John Bradshaw Layfield
JBL has been very vocal in recent weeks about how he feels that Justin Credible defeating him in the North American Title Tournament was a product of cheating. JBL wanted to prove that he could beat Credible in a "fair fight" whereas Credible wanted to show that his win over JBL was no fluke. JBL looked as focused as we've seen him so far, trying his best not to give Credible any time to be on the offensive. JBL has shown that his main weakness may be how easily frustrated he gets if he can't put a wrestler away, and boy did Credible fluster JBL. Credible is a veteran of the hardcore style, and as such, he can take a beating and keep on coming. After every kickout by Credible, JBL got angrier and angrier, starting to take his frustrations out on referee JD Sanders, complaining about slow counts and the like. JBL hit Credible with a big power bomb late in the match and almost got the 3, but Credible got his foot on the bottom rope just in time. JBL couldn't believe it and he let Sanders know about it, backing him into a corner. While JBL chewed Sanders' head off, out from the back came the Revolution, and we weren't exactly sure why. That is, until we saw Tommy Dreamer slide a pair of brass knuckles to Credible. Credible slid them on his hand, and when JBL turned back around, Credible blasted him right between the eyes. JBL fell like a tree, and Credible got an elementary three count.

Justin Credible pinned John Bradshaw Layfield after hitting him with brass knuckles in 0:13:05.
Rating: *** 1/4

Credible got a hugely cheapened victory over JBL, and I don't think he cared as he started celebrating with the Revolution! It looks like Credible is the newest member of the Revolution, and if they keep helping him get wins like this, it's hard to argue with his decision. The Revolution, now four strong, headed to the back while JBL had to be helped to his feet, still feeling the effects of the brass knuckles.

Commercial. When we come back, the card for Trick or Trouble is shown:

World Heavyweight Title Match - Kurt Angle (c) vs. Randy Orton

North American Title Match - "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown vs. "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles

World Tag Team Title Match - The Basham Brothers (c) vs. The Hardy Boyz

Television Title Match - "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels (c) vs. Rey Mysterio Jr.

Cruiserweight Title Match - Paul London vs. Billy Kidman

"The Crippler" Chris Benoit vs. Brock Lesnar

"Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero vs. Black Tiger

If Goldust wins, Booker T must become his partner - Booker T vs. Goldust

The Hurricane vs. Abyss vs. Steve "Who's Your Daddy?" Bradley

With nine matches of this caliber on the card, this is sure to be a night to remember. This is your last chance to order, so don't miss your chance to see Trick or Trouble live!

I've already done my predics, but two points to make.

First, JBL - ahahahaha! I sort of figured he wouldn't end the streak on Voltage, but he's gotta be getting pissed now.

Also, on the Goldust/Booker T match and the discussion that popped up last time, I sort of assumed there would be "life partner" implications. I hope so...
