EWCW Dynamite - 01.18.05

rey619Posted on 01/16/05 at 20:57:51

EWCW comes to mainland US tonight, in the old ECW arena in Philadelphia. Antonion Inoki and Ric Flair, the co-owners of EWCW, come out on stage. They announce Tod Gordon, former ECW President. Gordon
comes out (*pop*)
TG: Thanks everyone. I know most of you are here to witness the first Heavyweight Champion being crowned, and I'm sure Jarrett and Chono will put on a great match. I just wanted to say that, in addition to that, a former ECW wrestler has agreed to come back from retirement to fight here tonight, against Kaos in a Bed of Thumbtacks match.

The Ring Crew Express vs Mark Jindrak & Orlando Jordan

Jordan and Jindrak's size advantage gave them all they needed to brutalize this young tag team, but neither Jindrak nor Jordan went for the pin, instead aiming to outdo each other in brutality and sheer strength. This proved to be their undoing, as while Jindrak was on the outside pummeling Dunn in the ringsteps, Marcos saw an opening and hit Jordan with a flying cross body, winning this match. Scott D'Amore (who was announcing the match along with Todd Grisham), said that the punks got lucky, and that would never happen against a Canadian team.
Jordan and Jindrak watched in disbelief as the Ring Crew Express celebrated their victory.

We go back from commercial and Kevin Nash and Jeff Jarrett are walking backstage.
JJ: Tonight, Big sexy, is the night where I become the first EWCW Heavyweight Champion, and it's gonna be sweet, so very sweet.
KN: I'm still a little concerned about Scott leaving, though. Can't believe he didn't want to take over EWCW.
JJ: Meh, it doesn't matter. Tonight, you will take care of that little brat AJ, and I will beat Phono.
KN: I think it's Chono.
JJ: Whatever (spots a food cart and an attendant) Hey, give me that. You're not delivering this anymore, we are. We take over EVERY aspect of the industry.
(Nash and Jarrett push the cart along, and bump into someone.. Dallas)
KN: Who're you supposed to be? My replacement?
D: Name is Dallas
JJ: Well, hello there Dallas. My name is Tennesse, and this here is Michigan. Say, would you like to join us in taking over? We're a guy short.
D: sure, what do I do?
JJ: You can start by taking this cart to wherever it is supposed to be going.
KN: That was clever boss.
JJ: That's why I am the brain of this operation.

Jimmy Rave vs David Young

David Young's recent track record with TNA didn't prevent him from being hired here, but he quickly found out that his luck wasn't about to change. He started out good against Rave, slamming him hard to the mat with a chokeslam, following up with a wheelbarrow suplex.
Rave is able to gain his second wind after Young misses a moonsault, exerting his strength to pull the 70 lbs heavier Young along with a German suplex. However, it appeared as if Young had won this match when he spinebustered Rave to the ground, only to have Rave kick out. Young became so angry that he pushed the referee down on the ground, causing the DQ. Young went after the ref and was about to hit him with a chokeslam when Rave attacked from the back, saving the ref and setting Young up for the Styles/Rave Clash which knocks Young out.

Jimmy Rave beat David Young by disqualification in 09:26

Backstage, Hiroko is waiting outside Inoki's door. When he comes out, she accosts him and pulls on his sleaves.
(Translated from Japanese)
H: Why doesn't Kenzo have a match tonight? I demand an explanation. He would have won last week, but your comments about him made him insecure.
AI: He does not have a match this week because 1) He would have lost anyway, 2)He sucks!
H: Listen, I will do anything to get Kenzo a match, just to prove that he isn't that bad.
AI: Hmm.. well.. there is something (whispering something in Hiroko's ear)
H: (shocked) No.. no.. I cannot do that.. it would be wrong
AI: Well, bye bye then
H: No, wait.. ok.. I'll do it..
AI: Great. Next week, he will face... Tajiri!

Kaos vs Mystery Opponent (former ECW) in a Bed of Thumbtacks Match

Kaos came out and said that he respected ECW for what they had done for the hardcore business, but he would still walk out of here victorious, no matter who the opponent was. Tod Gordon came out and introduced... Mankind! The look on Kaos' face was surreal as Mick Foley came out dressed in his old cannibal alter ego.
Mankind: The pain.. the agony.. it's been too long since Mankind has graced the wrestling arena.. way too long. I feel a hunger burning inside me.. I need to fight.. I need to lay down my prey.. I need to... (spots Tod Gordon) yes... (Mankind jumps Gordon and wrestles him down to the ground where he applies the Mandible Claw. Kaos jumps out from the ring and come to the rescue, starting the match outside of the ring.

Even though Mankind got face heat initially, once he started attacking random fans (obvious plants), he quickly received boos and jeers. Mankind brought out the hardcore early on, knocking down Kaos with brass knuckles, running him through a table with a suplex. Kaos didn't want to be out-tabled by Mankind, performing his Kaostrify (front layout superplex) through a table (awesome bump, had to be seen to be believed). Bats, frying pans and the ring bell were widely used as these two maniacs desperately tried to inflict as much pain on each other as possible. Finally, Mankind puts Kaos in the Mandible Claw. Kaos fights all he can, but after 1 minute of fighting, he submits. That didn't mean that Mankind let go, forcing Sabian to come out for the save. He nailed Mankind with a couple of chairshots to have him let go, then ran like hell as a couple of refs pulled Kaos out of there. Tod Gordon must really regret bringing in Mankind !

Backstage, Jimmy Rave is bragging about yet another win to his mentor, AJ Styles.
JR: Did you see him when I kicked out of the spinebuster? Man, he went ballistic.
AJ: It WAS David Young.. he hasn't beaten anyone but Glen Gilberti in three years or something.
JR: Why are you doing this? Taking away the glory of victory. You always do this. Are you jealous because I'm undefeated in EWCW, and you're not?
AJ: Yeah, that's it (ironic). And what's that with the Styles Clash.
JR: It's the Rave Clash (getting angry)
AJ:Whatever (leaves the locker room)

Shelton Benjamin&Tajiri vs Jado&Gedo

Jado and Gedo wore matching T-Shirts with a picture of Tajiri on it and some Japanese signs, prompting Tajiri to attack the both of them at the beginning of the match. Scott D'Amore promptly left the announcing table to ask the Japanese announcers what that meant. Apparently, the Japanese announcers didn't speak any English, forcing D'Amore to come up with the idea that it said 'Tajiri's mother is so big that a kid riding piggy back on her needs a driver's license'.
The match goes back and forth, without one team gaining the upper hand, when Manabu Nakanishi comes down to the ring. D'Amore stops him, asking him if he speaks any english. Nakanishi says yes, and explains that the shirts say 'Traitor to your own people'. Tajiri is a traitor since he is teaming up with a Yankee.
Tajiri is letting his anger get the best of him, refusing to tag Shelton or go for pins, instead choosing the Mike Tyson approach and trying to bite off Gedo's ear.
Shelton actually tries to stop Tajiri from being disqualified, causing the ref to back him into his corner.
Nakanishi enters the ring now and nails him with a piledriver, setting up Gedo with the Frog Splash for the win.

AJ Styles vs Kevin Nash

Styles' tactic in this match was to use Nash' size against him, forcing him to take heavy falls. Of course, Nash' tactic was simple, pound AJ Styles until he couldn't stand anymore. Nash started working on AJ's back, putting him through repeated backbreakers. As soon as AJ got away from Nash' iron grip, he treated him to a superkick, and followed up with a flying legdrop and a senton to gain a 2 count. Nash regains his upper hand, clothesline AJ to the outside and running him into the steel steps. He then picks up AJ, and uses the Jackknife power bomb to send poor Styles through it. Kevin Nash is far from done with AJ, repeating the Jackknife, this time on the concrete floor. He throws AJ's lifeless body back into the ring and goes for the cover, when Scott Hall runs down and into the ring, giving it to Kevin Nash.
Hall pounds on Nash until Dallas and Jeff Jarrett come running down, ambushing Hall with yet another guitar.
Jimmy Rave comes running down to make the save, but falls pray to a Dallas' power bomb. JJ, Big Sexy and his younger look-a-like walk out standing tall.

Before the main event, Antonio Inoki and Ric Flair made it quite clear to Jeff Jarrett that if they saw Nash or Dallas down here, they would award the victory to Chono. Likewise, if Jarrett, Hall or Rave saw fit to take revenge, they would give it to Jarrett..

EWCW Heavyweight Title Match - Jeff Jarrett vs Masahiro Chono

These two men gave it all to become the first Heavyweight Champion here tonight. Chono set the standard with a power bomb early on, but was somehow distracted by Ric Flair coming ringside, allowing Jarrett to dropkick him to the outside and hit him with a baseball slide. The match continued on the outside with Jarrett gaining the upper hand, bulldogging Chono of the steps. Antonio Inoki comes out, berating Flair for coming down there. Flair gets in Inoki's face, and we can catch: 'I'll go wherever I want, I own this f***ing company'

Jarrett pulls Chono back into the ring, and while the ref is trying desperately to have Inoki and Flair not go at each other, Jarrett knocks Chono with a guitar, setting up the Stroke! 1... 2... Chono kicks out! Jarrett gets angry, trying to make Chono pass out in a sleeperhold. Chono breaks it up with a jawbreaker, and takes Jarrett down with a superplex. Chono climbs back up to perform some high-risk move, only be shoved unto the ropes by Ric Flair! Jeff Jarrett applies the Stroke again, but Antonio Inoki pulls the ref out of the ring. Flair runs angrily over to Inoki, but is levelled by a clothesline.
Jarrett can't believe this, and goes outside to find another guitar, just to have it snatched away by Inoki as soon as he got into the ring. Chono capitolizes and pulls Jarrett down in the STF, forcing Jarrett to submit.

Masahiro Chono is the new champion!!

Not a bad showing here.  As you get further along, I'll be able to respond in more detail.  One major thing I notice though that kind of bugged me was some of your transitions from mark to smart.  I'm more of the feeling that for card writeups, they should be one or the other (preferably smart).  When I read stuff like "Mankind attacked random fans (obvious plants)" it completely draws me out of it.  I think most of the readers will understand that in wrestling contest, if a fan gets attacked, it's probably a plant.  You don't have to break the reality to tell us that.  We know.

But other than that, a very nice showing.  Looking forward to more.

Thanks for the tip. I tried to model my lineup after the format you see at various wrestlingsites where they have results and such. I will refrain from doing that in the future, as I see your point.
