Low Ki pinned Chavo Classic after a dragon suplex in 0:08:35.
Rating: *** 3/4
(Low Ki retained the Cruiserweight Title.)

Low Ki continues to battle Los Guerreros who all want to prise the
cruiserweight title away from him. After none of them got a shot on Saturday,
much to Eddies disgust, his mood would have been eased when Chavo Classic got
himself. Perhaps it would have been dampened again though when Low Ki showed
us a professional and composed performance, putting Chavo away. Eddie was
furious backstaged and had to be calmed down by Hector and Mando. Eddie was
accusing Low Ki of cheating, but said if he wanted to cheat then he'd give it
as good as he gets when Eddie gets his shot.

Owen Hart defeated Super Calo when Super Calo passed out in the Sharpshooter in
0:04:10.
Rating: *** 1/4

Pretty Perfect are looking to get another crack at the tag team titles, as
always. After Owen Harts remarks after Ultimate Annihlation and a decent
performance from him and Hennig in the TV title match this past Saturday,
they feel deserving of a title shot. Owen took on Super Calo, and look as
good as ever, winning with the Sharpshooter, but he wasn't quick to release
it, shouting at the ref that they should be given a title shot first before
he releases it. Luckily for Calo, Owen did release it fairly soon after, but
the message has been sent.

Billy Kidman pinned Lance Storm with the Shooting Star Press in 0:11:30.
Rating: **** 1/4

Billy Kidman, a beaten man on Saturday, no longer the worlds heavyweight
champion, has one man to blame - not Jerry Lynn, but Jody Fleisch, whom Kidman
claims put him in a near impossible situation. Maybe this is true, but in any
case, it was during a Billy Kidman interview backstage that things blew up. A
disheartened Kidman was vowing that he would again wear the worlds title when
he spotted Jody Fleisch. Kidman quickly incited a shoving match with him, which
officials broke up. Kidman needed to save his strength as he took on Lance
Storm today. Storm has been a thorn in Steve Corinos side in the past, so
Kidman was happy to take him on, but would have been happier if it had been a
title defense. In any event, Lance Storm showed why he is such a force to be
reckoned with when he's on his game and gave Kidman a real run for his money.
It was a bit of a stroke of luck for Kidman that Lance Storm should miss a
charge into the corner and get the wind completely knocked out of him upon
hitting the turnbuckles. Kidman hit the Shooting Star Press to put him away,
and now he must have his mind on a man who'd love to tear him limb from limb,
Brian Pillman.

Ulf Herman pinned Kid Kash after a powerslam in 0:04:00.
Rating: * 1/2

Alex Wright looks like he's found himself a monster of a bodyguard in Ulf
Herman. When it was noted, however, that Herman has technically lost both of
his matches to date - Team Germanys match at Ultimate Annihlation and this
past Saturday against Dynamite Kid - Wright said that this needed to be
changed right away. So Herman took on one of the brightest cruiserweights in
the division, Kid Kash. Kash has several big wins to his name and that long
cruiserweight title reign this year, which you have to bear in mind when you
consider he got almost nothing in this match. That was Kid Kash that Ulf
Herman just left needing to be peeled off the canvas, simply destroying him
and finishing him with a huge powerbomb. An impressed Wright grabbed a mic and
said something, mostly in German, but we gathered Wright wanted Herman to do
something to show Dynamite what he can expect at Retribution, and the big
bodyguard delivered a second powerbomb. Dynamite was absent following the
beating Herman gave him over the weekend, but will be back and ready to go
against Alex Wright at Retribution.

Two-out-of-three-Falls Match:
Psychoanalysis (Brian Pillman and Sean O'Haire) beat
Doug Furnas & Phil Lafon (Doug Furnas and Phil Lafon) 2 falls to 1:
x O'Haire beat Lafon via the Seanton Bomb in 0:03:29
        x Furnas beat O'Haire via a top-rope legdrop in 0:07:10
x Pillman beat Furnas via the DDT in 0:12:30
Rating: *** 1/2
(Psychoanalysis retained the Tag Team Titles.)

The tag team titles were on the line as Doug Furnas made his return from
injury to team up with Phil LaFon and take on reigning champions Psychoanalysis
in a two out of three falls match. The last time we saw Furnas in action, he
and LaFon were winning the tag team titles but Furnas was also getting injured,
resulting in the titles being vacated. As they were promised, they got their
title shot in a match made this past Saturday by Jody Fleisch. Right away the
champions wasted little time in taking down the challengers who started off
looking a little rusty. Pillman and O'Haire pretty much pasted their
opponents, Furnas was sent from the ring and O'Haire wiped out LaFon before
finishing him with the Seanton Bomb. 1-0 Psychoanalysis and the challengers
needed to regroup and regroup fast.

The second fall finally saw the challengers slow things down and they were
now able to match the champs. Quickly, they managed to single out the bigger
O'Haire and work over his legs. O'Haire did manage to kick out of a big
Exploder suplex from LaFon, but Furnas was quickly tagged in and O'Haire was
hit with a big legdrop from the top rop for the pin and the second fall.

The third fall meanwhile saw its share of controversy as O'Haire tried to
fight back, but was clearly weakened by the constant double teaming. Suddenly
things started to turn his way, until Kurt Angle wandered out to make a
nuisance of himself and when he saw the chance, he tripped O'Haire who was
quickly hit by Furnas' frankensteiner, but O'Haire somehow kicked out. Seconds
later it was over when O'Haire finally made a tag, a blind one at that, it
allowed Pillman to enter the ring unsighted to Furnas who spun round into a
DDT that clinched it for Psychoanalysis. Once again, the pair of them come
out with the gold in hand.

Brian Pillman wasn't out of the spotlight yet though, as he was caught
backstage holding Jody Fleisch against a wall by the scruff of his neck.
Pillman was fuming that Fleisch' booking this past Saturday had, essentially,
cost him a title shot, now that Kidman no longer holds the championship. Like
Kidman before him, Pillman may well be looking for vengeance down the line if
this situation isn't resolved. Luckily for Fleisch, a couple of officials
broke things up before Pillman could snap.

Kurt Angle pinned Scott Putski with the Olympic Slam in 0:04:51.
Rating: ***

The pesky Kurt Angle had another special challenge in store for us, I guess
God was punishing us or something. Calling out Rob Van Dam, it looked like
Angle might finally get into the ring with RVD, after weeks of chickening out.
Of course, Angle won't have a choice at Retribution, but he wasn't about to
kick it off now. Instead Angle wanted to bargain - if he could beat his next
opponent, he wanted Van Dam to agree to call off the match at Retribution.
Van Dam, not sure where he was, agreed that this sounded really fair and he
agreed. Angles opponent, natch, was Scott Putski. Putski, of course, has
actually won a few matches this year and came within an eyelash of winning
the television title from Alex Wright, so Angle was wise not to take him
lightly. Naturally, the superior Angle won fairly easily and danced and gloated
about how he wouldn't have to face Van Dam at Retribution. Van Dam, on the
other hand, had absolutely no recollection of their prior agreement and didn't
know what Angle was talking about, before promising to beat him at
Retribution. Angle, frankly, was flabbergasted as RVD's idiocy, and put up
quite a protest - he might have a point, but frankly - who cares?

Chris Jericho defeated Brad Armstrong by disqualification in 0:12:07.
Rating: **** 1/4
(Brad Armstrong retained the Intercontinental Title.)

Brad Armstrong has been quite an Intercontinental champion for the last few
months even if he's ripping off his entire routine, but when he proclaimed
today that he had beaten EVERYONE the DWF had to throw at him, he was greeted
by a willing challenger in Chris Jericho. After a brief exchange of words,
Jericho got right to it and the match was on. It was an even encounter, but
Jericho always looked like he might edge it, until things spilled to the
outside. Armstrong took advantage and found another one of The Rocks party
pieces to rip off - taking an announcers headset and doing commentary during
his own match. Jericho recovered long enough to dive in and throw some punches
but as he pulled away, Armstrong grabbed a fan from the announce table and
clocked Jericho around the head for a blatant DQ, took his belt, and headed
off. So much for keeping your cool. When Jericho got back up, now with a small
cut about his left eye, he looked pretty mad. If I were Armstrong, I might
want to keep one eye behind him.

Los Guerreros (Eddie Guerrero and Hector Guerrero) defeated
The Young Lions (Christian York and Joey Matthews) when E. Guerrero pinned
Matthews with the Frog Splash in 0:10:14.
Rating: ****

If Eddie wants a crack at Low Ki, he went the right way about it with
victory today over The Young Lions. Perhaps preoccupied with their
investigations, they weren't quite able to put away Eddie and Hector today
and it was Eddie who took it with the Frog Splash after he and Hector had made
an illegal switch. Those cheats...

Jerry Lynn pinned Steve Corino with the Cradle Piledriver in 0:12:18.
Rating: ****
(Jerry Lynn retained the Heavyweight Title.)

Jerry Lynn - back at the top and looking better than ever. After reigning as
the greatest DWF champion in history, holding it a little over one year, he
once again wears the gold around his waist, but the consensus with many people
is that he won't even come close to a year this time, with what lies ahead at
Retribution. After eighteen months of waiting and winning, Don Muraco finally
gets his title shot. Their match four months back at Wrestlefest was one of
the most eagerly anticipated in DWF history and after Muraco won that one, you
would have to expect a similar level on interest in the rematch.

That said, there was always a risk that Lynn might not make it to Retribution
as champion. Out for revenge on behalf of his tag team partner (and himself)
after what happened this past Saturday night, Steve Corino had well and truly
earned himself a title shot. With everything to gain and nothing to lose - his
television title was not on the line - Corino didn't hold back and gave Lynn
everything he had. Unfortunately it was never going to be enough on this night
as Lynn was displaying that old magic with just a hint of sadism that only
someone like that can provide. Corino did get a glimmer of hope at the end
when he briefly dazed Lynn and went for the Old School Expulsion. Luckily for
Lynn, he dodged that one and quickly finished it with the Cradle Piledriver.

The night wasn't at an end for Lynn there though, as while he celebrated the
win, out came Don Muraco, who stood in the aisle and stared out Lynn, with the
champ returning the look. Both men burned holes into each other as the show
came to a close, and if this is anything to go by, there'll be no love lost
come Retribution.

Card rating: *** 1/2

Match observations:

Finally Hunter Hearst-Helmsley was seen in an executive box high in the stands
watching the action during the show, with another hooke... uhhh, escort for
the evening. One wonders if he has anything in mind for Retribution in three
weeks time.
Snabbit888Posted on 01/11/05 at 18:50:50

Well, Furnas and Lafon get a less than heralded return match, and are defeated for their troubles.  Well, that's show business, folks!

idman gets a solid win over Lance Storm, but Storm isn't exactly as nutty as Pillman is.

Pothead RVD rules.  He still thinks the match is on for Retribution, and that's brilliant.  Woo.

And Pillman's trying to kill Jody Fleisch!  I bet Fleisch wasn't expecting to make so many enemies because of one-night of booking.

Is Corino still in the cast?  Regardless, solid main event.  This might be Muraco's time.  Jeff Hardy must be so proud.

And dare I say, \ HOOKERS / ?
americamamushiPosted on 01/11/05 at 19:11:51

Viva Los Guerreros! (I don't think it's conjugated right but I haven't been in a spanish class since my senior year of high school)

I like the team of Pillman and O'Haire, as well as their name... cuz they're all wacky and stuff. :)

and it was Eddie who took it with the Frog Splash after he and Hector had made
an illegal switch. Those cheats...
*marks out for illigal switching*

Lynn versus Don Muraco at the PPV?  Oh I am so there ;D  I'm picking Lynn to retain.

Can't wait to see retribution
