WWE Monday Night Raw - January 31, 2005

Murphy42782Posted on 01/08/05 at 07:09:44

{WWE Monday Night Raw kicks off with the normal RAW beginning followed by some highlights from last night at the Royal Rumble. The beginning fades to black and we pan in on a sold out arena as JR and The King welcome everyone to MNR. They explain that there will be an 8 man tournament to crown the next WWE Intercontinental Champion starting tonight with two huge first round match-ups. We then cut to backstage as JBL pulls up in his limo and Danny Basham is waiting at the door to greet him.}

John Bradshaw Layfield: (To the limo driver) That was THE WORST limo service I've ever had. The way you sped around corners, I almost spilled my tomato juice all over my fine white suit. YOU'RE FIRED!

{Danny Basham begins to look terrified, almost trembling in fear. JBL meanwhile looks irate}

JBL: (To Danny) Can you believe this guy. Is he trying to make JBL look like a fool? Doesn't he know who I am!

Danny: I'm sure he does boss, who doesn't know who John Bradshaw Layfield is.

JBL: He had a piss poor additude and he was such a lousy driver, look at this I am 5 minutes late for MY show. Hey, Where's your brother?

Danny: He's with your new Chief of Staff.

JBL: Well that's what I like to see. My Co-Secretaries of Defense protecting me and my second in command. I like that. Well where are they I really need to talk to them?

Danny (looking a little terrified): They are in Nashville.

JBL (beginning to look curious): So they're in Nashville, and where are we?

Danny: Bost...

JBL (irate): BOSTON! What are they doing in NASHVILLE if we are in a scummy place like BOSTON! (Crowd boos as loud as they possibly can) I thought I had you make all the arrangements.

Danny: Ummm....You Did.

JBL: So please go ahead and tell me why they are in Nashville when we are in Boston and we were in New York last night. That's the opposite direction.

{Danny opens his mouth as if to say something, when JBL just covers his mouth, looks at him in disgust and shakes his head.}

JBL: Don't even bother. Correct this little mistake by next week, or YOU will be joining all those barrels of TEA at the bottom of the river.

{JBL walks by and leaves a terrified Danny Basham standing in the parking facility}

MATCH #1

:WWE Intercontinental Title Tournament Match:
Maven vs. Sylvain Grenier w/Rene Dupree

Prior to the match La Resistance made remarks about how much they enjoyed their run thus far in the WWE. Especially last night beating the snot out of poor, unsuspecting Eugene. The Crowd booed this as Eugene is quite a lovable character. They also mentioned how much they enjoyed wearing WWE gold and will try to do the fans back in Canada and France proud. The small contingency of Canadian fans that made the drive cheered, but they were even overcome by boos from the hostile American crowd.

Maven could wait no longer as he took the French flag and cracked Dupree upside the head. Maven the took Grenier and just beat him from pillar to post in what turned out to be a squashing of one half of the tag team champs.

:First Round IC Title Match:
Maven pinned Sylvain Grenier after a belly-to-belly suplex in 0:01:32.
Rating: *

{After the match Maven got on the mic.}

Maven: Ya know, I was sitting on the bus on the ride here from New York today and I did alot of thinking. (Crowd doesn't know how to react) Every city we go to I sell out the buildings, I put you fat, out of shape, drains on society in the seats. (Crowd Boos) Yet still, STILL I have to take a coach bus from town to town. I don't get the respect that other top tier athletes like myself get. (Crowd continues to boo) SHUT UP, I'm not finished yet. New York City was a festering flith hole, yet tonight, as I drove here in my coach bus having to put up with the likes of Tajiri, Charlie Haas, and that bumbling idiot Eugene and his "Mentor" and I use that term lightly, William Regal, I looked out the window. I was hoping to find something, anything really that would make me feel good about performing for you people tonight. You know what I found? Ha, You Know What I Found?! Nothing. A whole lot of nothing. This town, you fans, and those morons in the back have no idea how lucky they are to be graced by my presence. (Crowd starts a You Suck Chant) You people will be sorry as I personally take all those pathetic people in the back and put each one of them in the hospital. The WWE has become nothing but a side show act, and I will not rest until it once again is the king of the sporting world with ME as the ONE TRUE ICON IN SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT!

{The Fans boo as Maven drops the mic and walks off. His recent additude change has really gotten to the fans as they now boo someone who not to long ago they cheered}
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
{The Fans mood doesn't get any better as The Dudley Boys music hits and WWE World Heavyweight Champion Bubba Ray Dudley walks out with his enforcer and half-brother D-Von right behind him.}
D-Von: Well hello to you too. First things first I would like to congradulate Bubba on a fine showing last night in the Royal Rumble and on the 25 pounds he gained. Testify brother Bubba!
Bubba (With the fans booing): I know, I can't believe I am YOUR WWE World Heavyweight Champion either. (Shakes his head a little bit as if he is remembering a good memory) You know, It seems like it was only yesterday that I was dumping "The Dead Man" over the top to the floor in order to capture this title.
{D-Von and many fans look confused as it was only yesterday that he did so. D-Von chooses to ignore it and Bubba continues}
Bubba: So as YOUR champion (The fans boo at the very thought of Bubba being their champ) My first order of business is resting up and making sure that I am at 100% for Backlash, so that you the FANS can benefit from seeing me wrestle a 5 Star match versus some chump who can't carry my jock, for only $39.95. You see as champion I feel it is my duty to bring respectability back to this Championship. And how can I rightfully do that on insignificant days at insignificant events, such as a RAW or a WWE Houseshow. The only respectability is that which comes along with PAY-PER-VIEW!
{Vince McMahon's music hits and Vince comes power walking out.}
Vince: Hold it right there Bubba. (The Fans actually cheer Vince for stopping Bubba) That belt doesn't belong to you. It belongs to me and this company and these FANS! (The crowd goes nuts for McMahon) So if you are refusing to defend it for them week in and week out you might as well just hand it back over to me. (Bubba looks pissed) Because the way I see it is that belt should be defended with honor and class, not cowardice and cockiness.
Bubba: So what are you saying Vince? I know my rights. I only have to defend my Title once every 30 days. And by MY calculations BACKLASH is a mere 20 Days away, which makes it perfectly legal for me to wait till then to defend it.
{Vince looks impressed with Bubba's knowledge of the rules. Then it looks like he has an idea}
McMahon: Then since you asked for it, you will get it. You want to defend that title and restore credibility to that championship. Then at Backlash you, BUBBA RAY DUDLEY will defend that WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE against your number one contender.
Bubba: And just WHO might that be?
Vince: Well that I'm not sure of. But we will all know by the end of tonight. Because tonight's main event will be a fatal fourway between The Undertaker (The Dudleys laugh at this), JBL (Another chuckle comes from the duo), The Big Show (They look slightly more concerned), and THE ROCK! (Bubba and D-Von are livid, they can't believe this)
MATCH #2
Muscle For Hire (Tyson Tomko and Luther Reigns) vs. Eugene and William Regal
This match really went back and forth. Regal and Eugene controlled the action as a fluid cohesive unit as Muscle for Hire controlled a good portion by hitting big power moves, but basically working as individuals. The end came as Tomko caught Regal in a double reverse chinlock and applied so much pressure Regal was forced to tap out.
Muscle For Hire (Luther Reigns and Tyson Tomko) defeated
Eugene and William Regal when Tomko defeated W. Regal when W. Regal
passed out in a double reverse chinlock in 0:15:03.
{A Camera cuts to a lockerroom and Randy Orton is show getting ready for his match against Danny Basham. All of a sudden the door goes flying open and Batista walks in.}
Batista: Hey Randy, I just wanted to say thanks for bailing me out yesterday.
Orton: Hey you woulda done the same for me, no wait you didn't but I knowYou were brainwashed by Hunter and Ric.
Batista: I don't know if brainwashed is the best way to put it, but more or less.
Orton: So I figured I'd let bygones be bygones so we can turn Triple H and Ric Flair into long gones. Ya feel me?
Batista: I feel ya. It's time for them to pass the torch, whether they like it or not. This company is dying with fossils like them leading us. This company needs some New Blood!
Orton: Exactly
{Batista and Orton exchange handshakes and pounds as the camera's fade out. The camera's fade back in and Steven Richards is in the ring awaiting the arrival of Chris Benoit}
MATCH #3
Chris Benoit vs. Steven Richards
This match turned out to be quite a show. Richards had his best match in some time and Benoit is, well, Benoit. Richards scored a few near falls, one after a stevie kick and one after a Stevie-T. But, in typical Benoit fashion he fought back and after 25 minutes locked on the Crippler Crossface and Richards did the smart thing and tapped out and lived to fight another day.
Chris Benoit made Steven Richards submit to the Crippler Crossface in 0:25:49.
Rating: *** 3/4
{A camera catches Triple H and Ric Flair watching a TV Monitor in their dressing room as we get set for our next match}
:WWE Intercontinental Title Tournament Match:
Randy Orton vs. Danny Basham
Randy Orton was dominating Basham as one would expect. But Basham fought back and looked to have the match at hand when Triple H came out. Basham looked at Hunter a little confused. He turned back into the ring and worked over Orton some more as Batista made his way to the ring. The ref cut Batista off and sent him to the back as Triple H tossed Danny Basham a frying pan, but Orton spoiled The Game's plans and intercepted it. Basham was then knocked silly by Orton and the ref turned in time to see Orton cover Basham. 3 seconds later and Hunter was livid. He grabbed a chair and hit the ring with a fury. But just as he did Batista came back out and met Hunter with a big boot sending the chair into his skull. Orton looked appreciative and Batista helped him to the back. Triple H used the ropes to pull himself up and snarled at the camera as we cut to a commercial.
Randy Orton pinned Danny Basham after hitting him with a frying pan in 0:04:28.
MATCH #5
Charlie Haas vs. Eddie Guerrero
The crowd was solidly behind both competitors and Guerrero and Haas really gave it their all. They had a fine technical match-up and there were lots of counters and fluid movement coming from the two. Guerrero lived up to his creedo and tried to Lie, Cheat, and Steal a victory from the youngster Haas. Haas though battled through all of this and hit Eddie with a powerbomb that must have rattled Guerrero's older bones as he was unable to kick out by the count of 3. Haas helped Guerrero to his feet and extended his hand. Guerrero looked reluctant, but then shook it anyway and Haas had a big smile ear to ear.
Charlie Haas pinned Eddie Guerrero after a power bomb in 0:15:05.
MATCH #6
:Fatal Fourway-#1 Contenders Match:
The Undertaker vs. JBL vs. The Big Show vs. The Rock
This was everything you could hope for from a RAW main event. There was the guest commentary by D-Von Dudley and Danny Basham. A highlight in commentary came when D-Von and Danny began bickering over whether JBL or Bubba Ray is the bigger star. D-Von even made fun of Danny for being eliminated by a punk like Randy Orton. Basham got upset and said he wasn't talking to D-Von anymore and went back to talking to JR and The King.
The match itself wore on and the fans began to grow agitated until The Undertaker hit JBL with a tombstone. Basham got upset and jumped up from his broadcast position and helped JBL from the ring as he was eliminated. After about 4 minutes The Rock struck The Undertaker with The People's Elbow and pinned last night's runner-up. Just as The Undertaker walked by the announce table D-Von got up from his post and made his way to ringside. D-Von called out to The Rock and The Big Show distracting not only them but also the official. With that Bubba Ray slid in from the crowd and waffled The Rock with a title belt shot softening him up for The Choke Slam, 3 seconds later and Bubba looked satisfied with himself. Obviously The Dudley Boys would much rather defend against THE BIG SHOW than The Rock. The reasoning is still unknown but I can bet you The Rock will have something to say next week.
4-Man Battle Royal:
The Big Show won a 4-man Battle Royal:
x Undertaker defeated JBL after the Tombstone in 0:12:06
x The Rock defeated Undertaker in 0:16:12
x Show defeated The Rock after the Choke Slam in 0:19:21
Rating: *** 3/4
[The Dudley Boys interfered against The Rock.]
WWE Notes:
*With Danny Basham's miscue Doug Basham and JBL's new Chief Of Staff were stranded in Nashville. JBL was irate, but the question now becomes, not who is this mystery man, but will the mystery man ever make it to an episode of RAW with Basham booking his flights?...
*Bubba Ray Dudley is set to defend the WWE World Heavyweight Title against The Big Show in just 20 days, but the question is why did they cost The Rock the match. Do they really fear the true "People's Champ"?...
*Triple H tried to get revenge but Batista and Randy Orton one-upped the Game again. How long can these two keep it up before Hunter gets his revenge?
*Maven and Randy Orton advance to the 2nd Round of the WWE Intercontinental Title Tournament. Meeting next week in first round action will be Rhyno and Rene Dupree and D-Von Dudley and the returning Heidenreich. Who will join Orton and Maven in the next round? Tune in next week to find out.
