WWE Royal Rumble - A New Beginning (Jan. 30, 2005)

Murphy42782Posted on 01/07/05 at 06:29:32

{Pyro goes off and a video package showing all the great moments in WWE history is aired. Then in big bold letters it reads: JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT IT WAS A THING OF THE PAST, HE MAKES IT A THING OF THE FUTURE. WELCOME TO A NEW BEGINNING...}

Vince McMahon: Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, I am Vincent K McMahon Jr. The proud owner of the WWE. Last year we hit a bit of a rough spot, but I promise you I will not let that effect the quality of product we present to you...

{Fans have a luke warm reaction to this}

McMahon: Tonight we have several big matches. We have titles on the line. We have the return of someone I don't think you'll have a problem recogni....

{Vince is cut off by The Rock's music. The crowd goes bananas. The Rock comes out mic in hand.}

The Rock: Stop right there Vince, I can handle it from here on out. Ya know it's been a long time but finally The Rock has come back to New York City...

{Usual hometown pop. The camera pans back to the ring where Vince is smiling a big smile. Obviously he has gotten The Rock to come out of retirement.}

The Rock: Well The Rock is back and after any prolonged time away you always have business to handle when you finally do come home. I've been gone awhile and Triple H has become even more greedy then he was while I was here. Shawn Michaels has come and gone, come and gone. The Undertaker is deadman one minute, biker the next, then right back to being dead. So pretty much nothing has changed. There's some new faces, old faces, pretty faces, ugly faces, but one thing remains constant...

{Crowd is eating up everything The Rock is saying.}

The Rock: The Rock will always be the brightest star of them all. So tonight, The Rock is going to handle his first order of business, and that is winning the Royal Rumble match...

{Crowd goes bezerk.}

The Rock: Then The Rock is gonna take that title belt, shine it up real nice, put that son of a bitch around my waist, and continue to kick ass for each and every one of the Rock's millions and millions of fans week in and week out. If Ya Smellllllll Whattt The Rock Is Cookin!!!!!

{Crowd is absolutely electric after this little speech}

MATCH #1

:WWE World Tag Team Titles Battle Royal:
featuring The Basham Brothers, The Dudley Boys, La Resistance, Eugene and William Regal, Rhyno and Tajiri, and the new tandem Muscle For Hire (Tyson Tomko and Luther Reigns)

This match was really one sided. After a few brief moments Sylvain Grenier was the first to strike as he eliminated a confused and bewildered Eugene from behind. Eugene threw a little temper tantrum outside the ring until William Regal assured him it was ok as they walked to the back. Shortly there after Grenier eliminated Doug Basham. Danny Basham threw some stiff rights as he was escorted from the fight by a team of officials. Next up Grenier, Rene Dupree, and Luther Reigns teamed up to eliminate Bubba Ray Dudley. D-Von followed him to the outside as he was ambushed by Rhyno and Tajiri. The brawl continued between La Resistance Muscle For Hire, and Rhyno and Tajiri for a few more minutes. Rhyno and Tajiri were isolated from each other as Tomko, Reigns, and Dupree worked over Rhyno and Grenier went toe to toe with Tajiri. Dupree eliminated Rhyno after crushing him with a reverse neck breaker. La Resistance and Muscle For Hire went neck and neck, but in the end experience won over brawn as Dupree caught Reigns sleeping and ousted him from the competition.

12-Man Tag Team Battle Royal for the vacant WWE World Tag Team Titles:
Rene Dupree and Sylvain Grenier won a 6-team Battle Royal:
        x S. Grenier threw out Eugene (partner: William Regal) in 0:01:26

{A camera pans in on Batista and Ric Flair talking in a locker room}

Ric Flair: Dave you know you don't have to do this, you can apologize to Hunter and you two can go back to being friends. All can be forgotten big man...

Batista: Friends? You Think Triple H has ever viewed me as a friend.

Flair: Of course he did buddy...

Batista: Ric, I don't know who you're trying to convince, ME or YOU. Hunter is only looking out for number one. Look at what happened to Randy. The minute his time in the sun came, Hunter had ME take him out, so HE could send a message. Hunter can't handle other people's success...

Flair: That's not true. He can handle it and when your time comes, I'm sure he will do whatever he can to help you out. Ya know you scratch his back and he'll scratch yours...

Batista: When My time comes. Ric MY TIME is now. Both you and Triple H are failing to recognize just how fast my career is moving upwards and tonight I'M GOING TO MAKE HIM REALIZE...

{With that Batista storms out and Flair is just left shaking his head}

MATCH #2

:No Disqualification:
The Undertaker vs. Heidenreich w/Paul Heyman

This match really was the worst of the night, but both big men did what they could to keep fans into it. Heidenreich is looking to make a name for himself and he went after the biggest dog in the yard. The Undertaker epitomizes what the WWE has stood for for the last decade or so.

The action went back and forth and in stunning fashion Heidenreich not only put up a fight, but on this night (With the help of Paul Heyman) He was more than The Man From The Darkside could handle. Heidenreich knocked The Undertaker outside and distracted the ref and that's when Heyman drilled The Undertaker with a vicious chair shot. Heidenreich pulled Taker inside and beat him from corner to corner before ending it with a huge powerbomb.

No-DQ-Match:
Heidenreich pinned The Undertaker after a power bomb in 0:06:42.

{JBL's locker room is shown and inside is JBL and The Basham Brothers.}

John Bradshaw Layfield: (Talking to Danny) Ok now I need you to make those calls I asked you to make and see if he's gonna be able to make it in by net week. (Danny nods)

{JBL looks at a piece of paper in disgust}

JBL: (Talking To Doug) How can they make me fight someone like The Big Show on what is going to be my biggest night ever? (Doug shrugs his shoulders) I mean when we get out there tonight in the Royal Rumble and I win the WWE World Heavyweight Title, they want to have that compromised by sticking me in a match with someone as mentally unfit as The Big Show? (Doug looks puzzled) Then they go as far as saying that my co-secrataries of defense can't be at ringside. They are risking too much my friend. I am JOHN...BRADSHAW...LAYFIELD. Don't they know what that means?

MATCH #3

:Grudge Match:
Batista vs. Triple H w/Ric Flair

Triple H was hell bent on keeping Batista beneath him in the pecking order here in the WWE just the same as he was when Randy Orton began to advance in his career. Batista set out to prove to everyone that he's more than just the brawn behind Triple H's brains. The tempers flared and it didn't take long before Ric Flair got involved.

Batista is not yet a top tier played in the WWE, but he is looking more and more like one everyday. Batista actually had Hunter on the run in this one, using power move after power move to maintain his advantage. Flair couldn't sit by idly anymore and interjected himself into the match. This swung the advantage and thats all Helmsley would need to hit Batista with a pedigree. Flair then got in the ring and stomped Batista and handed Triple H a chair. As Hunter prepared to shatter Batista's ankle with it, RANDY ORTON ran out to make the save. Triple H and Ric Flair retreated and Orton helped Batista to his feet. Batista looked confused for a minute, but then extended his hand and Orton reached out and shook it and they both smiled and walked to the back.

:Grudge Match:
Triple H pinned Batista with the Pedigree in 0:07:43.
Rating: ** 1/2

{As Orton and Batista reached the back JR and The King previewed The Royal Rumble Match, and showed highlights from years past. Then The Big Show made his way out to the ring and JBL was out shortly thereafter}

MATCH #4

:The Basham Brothers are Banned From Ringside:
John Bradshaw Layfield vs. The Big Show

The Big Show is looking to reestablish himself as the dominant force he once was and JBL looks to prove why he should still be wearing championship gold. JBL was a bit irate about the Basham Brothers being banned from ringside and made sure that the official knew about it.  JBL tried dodging the match for most of the first few minutes asking the official to check in Big Show's boots, faking a back injury when he bent over to "Tie" his shoe, which was already tied to begin with, and various other little things.

Eventually The Big Show got his hands on JBL and JBL did what he could to fight back. They went back and forth and surprisingly this was the most entertaining match of the night thus far. JBL used cheap tactics and drew major heel heat and Big Show played things up to the crowd. The end came after The Big Show hit a chokeslam and JBL was left laying motionless on the canvas.

The Big Show pinned John Bradshaw Layfield with the Choke Slam in 0:19:44.
Rating: ** 1/2

(Bubba Ray Dudley won the WWE World Heavyweight Title.)

{And with Bubba clinching the title tightly and taunting The Undertaker who came with an eyelash of winning the match and the title The WWE Royal Rumble went off the air}

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WWE Notes:
*Just who was JBL referring to when he told Danny Basham to call him and see if he can make it out by tomorrow night? Will we find out?...
*Bubba Ray Dudley walked out with the WWE World Heavyweight Title, but what was even more impressive was D-Von's performace. He lasted 53 minutes and eliminated 10 superstars...
*Starting tomorrow night there will be an 8 man tournament to crown the WWE Intercontinental Champion featuring Maven, Heidenreich, Rhyno, Sylvain Grenier, D-Von Dudley, Rene Dupree, Randy Orton, and Danny Basham based on their finishing 3-10 in the Royal Rumble match...
*The Undertaker has requested a match with Bubba Ray Dudley for the WWE World Heavyweight Title. Will Vince give him his wish?...
*What retaliation will Triple H have in store for Randy Orton and Batista? You know that the "Cerebral Assassin" is not pleased with tonight's events at all...
La Resistance won the WWE World Tag Team Titles
Not a bad team for your first champs.  I was kinda rootin' for the Bashams though. :)
I'm quite surprised that Heidenreich went over Undertaker.
Not surprised Trips went over Batista. ;)
Bubba Ray Dudley won the WWE World Heavyweight Title
Just... wow... I never would have seen that coming! :D  The question is, do you run with Bubba as a legit champ?  Or try and put him in a program with someone that can take the belt off him fast.  Personally, I can't see Bubba Ray Dudley as a legitimate singles champion.  Maybe... maybe for a secondary or trinary title.  It'd be a little different if you were running a 'new' fed.  When I read a 'new' fed I try and be open minded about card placement of superstars.  But since you're picking up where the WWE left off I have preconceived notions of who is where on the card.
Good stuff though. :)  Kinda curious how Bubba's newly found title with sit with his brother from another mother.
HugeRockStar760Posted on 01/07/05 at 08:00:13
You could model Bubba Ray Dudley after Dusty Rhodes or even Harley Race.
Murphy42782Posted on 01/07/05 at 08:11:08
While the Bubba as a Rhodes type champ sounds intriguing I have to see where TNM suggests I go with this. I have some ideas about how to establish credability and the such, but things will move as I see fit. D-Von was even more impressive in the rumble and I have BIG things planned for both of them as a unit. The title may or may not remain with them though. The Undertaker, despite his loss to Heidenreich, finished second in the rumble and is inline for a shot, The Rock, and JBL made it no secret that they think the title is theirs.
I thought Bubba did a decent job in that mini-push he received against Triple H.  However, he'd need a gimmick overhaul to be taken seriously as a singles wrestler, much like with JBL.
Ooh, that last one answers the question "booked or unbooked". Yeah, not keen on Bubba winning but I guess that was out of your hands, the challenge now is how you handle that.
Murphy42782Posted on 01/07/05 at 22:09:41
Yeah Im running a combination of booked and unbooked. I let TNM decide the first card and look forward to pushing the Dudleys which TNM began so kindly for me. Bubba probly wont hold the title long, but The Dudleys will be a part of a major feud very soon. And its not with a tag team. Bubba's surprise win and D-Von's display of dominance showed that TNM will help me give them the push I feel the WWE should have given them awhile ago. They almost got the push with Bubba/Triple H feud. And D-Von leading Batista around as a group of preachers.  Then they had that small feud with Taker. But WWE gave up much to early or didnt build the angle properly. I will try to avoid that.
