[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 10/4/04

Snabbit888Posted on 12/22/04 at 01:21:14

* * * * *

[We start off right away in the office of GCW President Ryan Niemiller. At the bottom of the screen it reads "EARLIER TODAY." The Prophecy, Sean O'Haire, Daffney, and Television champion "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels, enter the office. None of them look to be in a very good mood, and Niemiller is obviously nervous, but he does his best to hide it.]

CD: This better be good, sinner.

RN: Oh, I believe that it is. First of all, your appeal of the fine levied against you last week for your brutal attack on Rey Mysterio Jr. has been looked it, and after discussing it with officials, the fine will remain as is, to be paid in full within the next 30 days, or you shall face a suspension.

[Daniels starts to protest, but Niemiller cut hims off.]

RN: Rey Mysterio Jr. is not here tonight as he is at home recovering from his injuries, but he has requested a match against you, Christopher Daniels, at Trick or Trouble, and that match has been signed. And the Television Title WILL be on the line!

CD: You just don't know when to stop making mistakes, do y...

RN: FURTHERMORE, since you are not scheduled for a match this evening, Mr. Daniels, and I don't want to see a repeat performance of last week in Sean O'Haire's match with Monty Brown, you are BARRED from the building. This North American Title Tournament is too important to be marred by interference.

[Daniels almost snaps, but takes a deep breath before he speaks.]

CD: Niemiller, you can put up as many roadblocks and obstacles in our path as you want, but destiny is destiny; it cannot be changed. He will have his way in the end. Don't think that legislation and rulings will save your soul, Niemiller. You are a sinner, and we are here to punish the sins of those who deserve it. And you, Niemiller... deserve it.

[Daniels snaps his fingers and O'Haire approaches Niemiller before he can react. Niemiller is stuck in his chair, and his earlier attempts to hide his nervousness are gone as he is quite obviously terrified. O'Haire stands over Niemiller, looking as if he is going to him him, but instead O'Haire grabs Niemiller's desk and overturns it. Niemiller covers his face and head as O'Haire proceeds to completely decimate the office, knocking over bookshelves, throwing the plants, smashing anything and everything that can be smashed. All the while, Daffney laughs her high-pitched maniacal laugh and Daniels smiles his sadistic smile. When O'Haire is done, the only things in the room untouched are President Niemiller and the chair he's sitting in. Niemiller slowly lifts his head out of his arms and accesses the damage.]

CD: Next time, we won't stop with just your material possessions. Let's go.

[With that, the Prophecy leaves, leaving Niemiller alone amongst the wreckage that is his office. Niemiller shakes his head and starts to pick some things up when we hear Daffney's shrill laugh from the hallway. This catches Niemiller by surprise, causing him to jump. He calms himself down, regains his composure, and goes back to the basic cleaning. Cut to the introduction of Monday Night Explosion.]

* * * * *

What an unexpected way to start off Monday Night Explosion, live from the Delta Center, home of the NBA's Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City! A big night of action tonight, and we already had some bombshells dropped! Christopher Daniels has been barred from the building, which means that Sean O'Haire will go at it alone as he meets Monty Brown in a quarterfinal match in the North American Title Tournament! That won't be the only tournament match, as The Hurricane takes on Steve "Who's Your Daddy?" Bradley of the Sensationals! In addition, Billy Kidman is here in a triple threat match against Low-Ki and Shark Boy! Plus, the World Tag Team Titles are on the line as the Basham Brothers defend against Perry Saturn and The Amazing Red of the Revolution! And in our main event, Randy Orton's chance at the World Heavyweight Title is up in the air as he takes on the massive Abyss! But we started off right away with a match as Rob Conway took on Eric Angle!

Match #1
"Ironman" Rob Conway vs. Eric Angle
Eric Angle picked up what has to be considered the biggest win of his career as he pinned Randy Orton in the main event of Explosion last week (albeit not cleanly). Angle was in action this week, but he seemed less than thrilled with going from the main event to the opening match, but he had his hands full as he faced off with Rob Conway. This was a very technical-oriented match with Angle and Conway trying to one-up the other. Angle's experience in singles wrestling since coming to GCW helped him out a lot, as he was able to defeat the primarily tag team specialist Rob Conway via the Angle Slam.

Eric Angle pinned Rob Conway with the Angle Slam in 0:06:32.
Rating: *** 1/2

Another week, another victory for Eric Angle. When will somebody finally be able to end this undefeated streak? Rob Conway tried, but tonight wasn't his night.

Match #2
North American Title Tournament - Quarterfinals
The Hurricane vs. Steve "Who's Your Daddy?" Bradley
The Hurricane squeaked by Abyss via a disqualification to get to the quarterfinals, but he didn't have a much more appealing opponent on tap in this round as he took on the Baddest Mofo On The Show, Steve Bradley. The Hurricane has spent the past week or so getting the crap kicked out of him by Abyss, but he hasn't backed down. The Man In Green didn't back down in this one either, taking it right to Bradley. Bradley came out aggressively and gave The Hurricane another beating. Nothing fancy about this one as Bradley kicked, punched, and stomped The Hurricane into the mat. It looked like the beatings were about to get worse for The Hurricane as Bradley sent him flying to the floor. Bradley tried to go to the outside after him, but referee Petey Pluck got in the way. The Hurricane wasn't about to escape a beating though, but instead of from Steve Bradley, he suffered it at the hands of ABYSS! Shaniqua is not happy that The Hurricane keeps standing tall against Abyss, so she sent the behemoth out to finish the job. Abyss wrapped his two huge hands around The Hurricane's head and threw him over the ringsteps onto the concrete. The Hurricane slowly got to his feet, but he was clotheslined down by Abyss. Pluck saw this and called for the disqualification.

The Hurricane defeated Steve Bradley by disqualification in 0:02:00.
Rating: ** 1/2

Abyss dropped to his knees and began choking The Hurricane once again. Steve Bradley could not believe his eyes as Abyss had just caused him to be eliminated from the North American Title Tournament! Abyss didn't seem much to mind though as he continued to choke The Hurricane. Bradley's shock turned into extreme anger as he jumped out to the floor and plastered him with a huge kick to the head. Abyss was staggered as Bradley really caught him with that kick. Bradley threw ring announcer William Buck out of his chair, folded it up, and absolutely waffled Abyss with it! Bradley reared back for another shot, but a member of the GCW Official Brigade intervened and grabbed the chair. Abyss was stunned, but he shook off the chair shot and started at Bradley. It took all of the GCW Official Brigade and then some, but they somehow managed to keep these two animals separated. I'm sure Kurt Angle can't be happy with his right hand man plastering his hired henchman with a steel chair on the same night the henchman is taking on Randy Orton. But the end result is that The Hurricane is amazingly in the semi-finals, just two wins away from being the new North American champion.

* * * * *

[When we return from commercial, we are in the locker room of the Sensationals. Steve Bradley, having just lost by disqualification to The Hurricane, is absolutely livid, tossing chairs, punching lockers, etc. World Heavyweight champion Kurt Angle is trying desperately to calm Bradley down, but with little luck.]

SB: He's dead! He's f*BLEEP* dead!

KA: Calm down, Steve, calm down!

SB: I lost to The Hurricane? THE HURRICANE!? DAMMIT!

[Bradley picks up a chair and hits a locker with it, narrowly missing Angle.]

KA: CALM DOWN, DAMMIT! I know you're upset, Steve, but I am not going to have you jeopardize this! This is our chance to get rid of Orton once and for all, and I can't have your damn temper ruin this for me! It's bad enough that you about took Abyss' head off with that chair! This is our chance! We have to focus, Steve, focus!

[Bradley appears to calm down a bit as he stops throwing things and looks right at Angle.]

SB: Kurt... Abyss... is a DEAD man!

[Bradley goes to the door, swings it open as hard as he can, and stomps away.]

KA: This is not happening... this is not happening...

[Cut to the ring as Angle paces around worriedly.]

Match #3
World Tag Team Title Match
The Basham Brothers (c) (w/ Shaniqua) vs. Perry Saturn/The Amazing Red
As a result of their victory last week, pinning Chris Benoit, Perry Saturn and The Amazing Red were granted a World Tag Team Title shot against the Basham Brothers. The Hardy Boyz were watching this match closely as they're going to meet the champions at Trick or Trouble, regardless of who they are. This was a good tag team match that was only hindered by the fact that the crowd was a little unsure of who they should root for or against. The Bashams have shown in recent weeks that they are vulnerable, but they have been able to escape time and time again with the tag titles in tow. Shaniqua has also proved that she's not above getting involved, and that was shown again tonight.

Late in the match, Red was in the ring with Danny Basham. Danny tried to hit Red with what we assume was a power bomb, but Red is so adept at using his small stature to reverse moves, and he did so here by hitting a high speed sunset flip bomb. Red had Danny Basham's shoulders down, but referee JD Sanders couldn't count as Shaniqua was up on the apron. While Sanders tried to remove Shaniqua from the apron, she managed to hand the riding crop to Doug Basham who was on the apron next to her. Doug jumped in the ring and blasted Red in the face with it, knocking him out. Doug rolled his brother Danny out of the ring and laid on the mat as if he were down and hurt. Shaniqua conveniently jumped off the apron so that Sanders could turn around and see Doug Basham cover Red, who was not going to kick out after being knocked out cold. Perry Saturn tried to break up the pin, but he was too late as the Bashams retained the titles.

The Basham Brothers (Doug Basham and Danny Basham) defeated The Revolution (Perry Saturn and Red) when Doug Basham pinned Red after hitting him with the riding crop in 0:10:13.
Rating: *** 3/4
(The Basham Brothers retained the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

The Bashams pulled the old switcheroo off to perfection and as a result are still the World Tag Team champions. The Hardy Boyz are going to have to overcome a lot if they hope to become World Tag Team champions.

Match #4
Shark Boy vs. Low-Ki vs. Billy Kidman
Billy Kidman was back on Explosion, two weeks removed from walking out on partner Paul London during a match. The fans were on Kidman's case for much of this match, and he really let it get under his skin. Kidman would get the advantage over Low-Ki or Shark Boy, and then start listening to the fans and get distracted. I have never seen Kidman get this unnerved by the crowd before. At first, the tauntings weren't that bad, but the more upset that Kidman got, the more the fans in the Delta Center rode him. This phenomenon would lead to Kidman losing this match. Late in the contest, he had thrown Low-Ki to the floor and had hit Shark Boy with the BK Bomb. Kidman dragged Shark Boy into position, and climbed to the top rope for the Shooting Star Press. But when Kidman was on the top, the fans at ringside were hurling insults at him left and right. Kidman started yelling back at them, which allowed Low-Ki to sneak around and crotch Kidman on the top rope. Low-Ki slid back in the ring and whipped Shark Boy into the opposite corner. Low-Ki followed in with a Tidal Crush (ironic, no?) and got the duke over the man from the sea.

Triangle Match:
Low-Ki defeated Shark Boy and Billy Kidman when Low-Ki pinned Shark Boy after a Tidal Crush in 0:09:29.
Rating: *** 1/2

A great win for Low-Ki, who wants to keep his name in the Cruiserweight Title picture. Billy Kidman, however, was quite upset, throwing a tantrum in the ring. He was going to have even more reason to be upset, as his former partner and Cruiserweight champion Paul London was in the ring, right in Kidman's face, and he had a microphone with him.

* * * * *

[Cruiserweight champion Paul London and Billy Kidman engage in a long staredown. Eventually, London breaks the silence.]

PL: Do you have something to say to me?

BK: No, I don't have anything to say to you.

PL: Well you better figure something out. I want some explanations.

BK: And people in hell want ice water. So, tough.

[Kidman tries to walk away, but London grabs his arm and pulls him back.]

PL: You're going to give me some answers, Billy, or I'm going to beat them out of you!

BK: Is that a threat?

PL: Yeah, that's a threat! What are you going to do about it?

BK: You know what? This isn't worth it. I don't have to explain myself to you.

[London raises his fist to hit Kidman, but instead lets go of Kidman. Kidman brushes his arm off and then gets out of the ring. London runs his hands through his hair in frustration, but in the process, turns his back on Kidman. Kidman sees this and slides back into the ring, hitting London from behind. Kidman picks London up and stuffs him with the BK Bomb. Kidman drags London over to the corner, climbs the turnbuckles, and nails the Cruiserweight champion with the Shooting Star Press. Kidman is being booed relentlessly now as it looks like the team is officially split. Kidman leaves for the back, feeling proud of himself for what he did. We cut to commercial as an angry Paul London struggles to pull himself to his feet, clutching his ribs.]

Match #5
"Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero vs. "The Innovator of Violence" Tommy Dreamer (w/ Perry Saturn/The Amazing Red)
Eddie Guerrero's life has been turned upside down the past several months thanks to a strange masked man in a Black Tiger mask. This saga has obviously taken its toll on Latino Heat, and it was never more evident than in his match tonight with Tommy Dreamer. Guerrero was introduced first, followed by Dreamer, who had Perry Saturn and Red with him. Guerrero's not thinking clearly these days, and he showed it by jumping out of the ring before the match started and fighting with all three members of the Revolution. Guerrero had the advantage early because he had the element of surprise, peppering all three of them with right hands. The numbers overwhelmed him though, and the Revolution gave Latino Heat quite the beating, including Saturn dropping Eddie throat first on the ring barricade. Dreamer threw Guerrero into the ring, and referee Jimmy Appleseed called for the bell to start the match. The actual match didn't last very long though, as Guerrero was completely out of it. Dreamer hit a swinging neckbreaker and got an elementary three count.

Tommy Dreamer pinned Eddie Guerrero after a swinging neckbreaker in 0:00:25.
Rating: *

The Revolution's gang-like mentality, coupled with Guerrero's mental instability, was enough to get them a victory tonight. If Guerrero didn't have Black Tiger on his mind, he would have never made a decision to attack the Revolution like that. Guerrero will get his chance to finally exorcise the Black Tiger demon at Trick or Trouble in a one-on-one match.

* * * * *

["CAN YOU DIG IT... SUCKA!?" blares over the sound system, bringing out a furious Booker T. Booker wastes no time getting to the ring and grabbing the microphone.]

BT: GOLDUST! Get your fruity punk sucka ass out here, NOW!

[The crowd pops as Booker T's nostrils flare with intense anger. No response from Goldust.]

BT: I'm not askin' you; I'm tellin' you! Get yo' ass out here NOW!

[The GCW VideoTron comes on, showing Goldust in his full robe with golden feather boa.]

G: Now Booker T, why so upset? I thought you might be a little more tongue-tied than that. Lord knows you were a couple of weeks ago.

[The crowd jeers, remembering mental images of Goldust's "first-aid" from two weeks ago on Explosion. Booker T doesn't even blink, staring a hole into Goldust on the VideoTron.]

G: You need to relax, take a breather. You're too tense. Do you need a shoulder rub? Why don't you let Goldie give you a shoulder rub?

BT: I am going to...

G: Awww... you're going to what, my Booker-kins? You're so angry... are you mad at me? Is it something I said? Just talk to me, Bookie-poo. This is why so many marriages end in divorce: no communication. Do we need to go to counseling?

BT: Where you at? I'll find you and kick your as there!

G: Now, now, Booker. Let's stop all the feudin' and the fussin'. You gotta realize that this is meant to be. We're absolutely perfect for each other!

BT: I'm tired of this! You can say all this crap when you're hidin', but you wouldn't dare say this to my face! You're sick, man! You wanna go around braggin' about your first-aid? Well I got a little first-aid that might cure your sick mind, and it's an ass-kicking straight from Booker T! How 'bout at Trick or Trouble, huh? You wanna kiss me so bad, you can kiss my fist!

G: Oh no, Booker... I couldn't fight you. We've fought before and it made me feel just awful. I hate when we fight. You just want me to bake you some cookies, don't you? You know I always bake you cookies after we fight!

BT: What the hell is the matter with you, you freak!? Cookies? I would nevah want you to bake me anything! You and me at Trick or Trouble, sucka!

G: Booker, I'm sorry, but I just can't do that. I don't wanna make war... I wanna make love...

[Booker T is about to lose it now as a collective groan sweeps over the building.]

G: And trust me when I tell you this, sweetheart, you will never forget the name... [Goldust inhales deeply.] ...Goldust...

[Goldust bites the air as the VideoTron turns off. Booker T looks like he could snap at any time as he shoots out of the ring in search of Goldust.]

* * * * *

* * * * *

[Back from commercial, we see William Buck in the ring.]

WB: Ladies and gentlemen... JOHN BRADSHAW LAYFIELD!

["Longhorn" plays. After a few second delay, a huge white stretch limo complete with bull horns on the front pulls out from the back. The limo stops and the driver gets out and opens the door. John Bradshaw Layfield emerges from the limo and holds his hands high in the air. JBL is in his wrestling gear, though he is not on the schedule to wrestle. JBL, in a very "politician" way, shakes a few hands with fans on his way to the ring. He even stops to kiss a baby. JBL gets in the ring, shakes William Buck's hand, and takes the microphone.]

JBL: Salt Lake City, greatness has arrived!

[The fans, disagreeing with these sentiments, boo JBL.]

JBL: Everybody saw what was supposed to be my great debut last week. Everybody saw that the jealousy for my greatness has started already, as I was SCREWED royally. There is no other possible explanation for Justin Credible pinning my shoulders to the mat. I have reviewed the tape several times and that has to be one of the fastest three counts I have ever seen in my life! But that's okay. I'm not one to get mad; I prefer to get even, and Justin Credible will get his. I'm a man of great power, great wealth, and I always get what I want.

[The crowd boos JBL as that big cocky smiles crosses his face.]

JBL: But as you can see, I'm in my wrestling gear. I know that Justin Credible isn't here tonight, but I know there are a lot of guys in the back who are. The fans were robbed a week ago of fully getting to witness my greatness. It's simply not fair to all of my fans who are desperate to chant my name: J-B-L! J-B-L! J-B-L!

[Not surprisingly, very few in attendance join in with that chant.]

JBL: So anyone in the back who feels froggy, go ahead and jump. I'm challenging anybody to a match, and I will prove again that I am the greatest singles wrestler alive. Why? Because my name is John Bradshaw Layfield, and I'm better than you!

[After a brief pause, "Whatever" by Our Lady Peace starts to a tremendous pop as here comes "The Crippler" Chris Benoit! The look on JBL's face shows that Benoit wasn't exactly who he was expecting. Benoit has a look of intensity on his face as he stares a hole through JBL, almost as if he is picturing Brock Lesnar instead. As Benoit gets in the ring, JBL tries to talk his way out of it, but he doesn't get much time as Benoit fires him up with chops. Referee Antonio Santangelo hops in the ring and calls for the bell, and we have an impromptu match!]

* * * * *

Match #6
"The Crippler" Chris Benoit vs. John Bradshaw Layfield
John Bradshaw Layfield should know that when you make an open challenge, you have to be ready for anybody. Well, I guess he wasn't ready for "The Crippler" Chris Benoit as JBL was back on his heels in the opening of this match. Nobody likes to lose, and that includes Benoit, especially in the way he was beaten by the Revolution last week, and he took that aggression out on JBL. JBL was getting rocked before he was able to cut Benoit's momentum short with a knee to the midsection. From there JBL punished Benoit as JBL has a reputation for being one of the hardest hitters in wrestling. The back and forth of this match continued throughout, and the crowd was getting a big kick out of these two giving each other all they had and coming back for more. The end of the match came when JBL caught Benoit with a big boot to the face after reversing out of a German suplex attempt by the Rabid Wolverine. As Benoit slowly got back to his feet, JBL went for the Stock Market Crash clothesline, but the savvy Benoit ducked and countered with a backslide, bridged his body up and got the win.

Chris Benoit pinned John Bradshaw Layfield after a backslide in 0:06:50.
Rating: ***

John Bradshaw Layfield is now 0-2, and he is not at all happy about it as he gets in Antonio Santangelo's face, complaining about a fast count. While JBL is arguing, BROCK LESNAR steps out from the back and stands at the top of the ramp taunting Benoit. Benoit calls Lesnar down to the ring, but Lesnar refuses, instead opting to taunt Benoit more. The taunts are enough to distract Benoit as an angry JBL spins him around and drops him with the Stock Market Crash. We cut to a commercial with Benoit out in the ring, and both JBL and Lesnar smiling, but for completely different reasons.

Match #7
North American Title Tournament - Quarterfinals
"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown vs. Sean O'Haire (w/ Daffney)
This is not the way Sean O'Haire expected to wrestle this North American Title Tournament quarterfinal with Monty Brown. O'Haire feels he shouldn't even have to wrestle in this tournament as he was the number-one-contender and scheduled to face Lance Storm for the title before Storm's injury. O'Haire was given a first round bye, but the Prophecy still don't think it's enough. And on top of that, Christopher Daniels was told to leave the building when he arrived by GCW President Ryan Niemiller, leaving O'Haire without the backup he thought he would have. O'Haire might have been able to destroy Niemiller's office, but a bookshelf can't fight back and Monty Brown can.

O'Haire was certainly wrestling this match an angry man, and he was simply trying to pummel Brown into the canvas. The Alpha Male is a difficult man to pummel though, as he is a scary kind of strong. There are very few men in GCW who are going to overpower Sean O'Haire, but one man who can do it is Monty Brown, and I think that took O'Haire out of his game a lot in this one. O'Haire is used to defending against wrestlers smaller and weaker than him, but not in this one. without Christopher Daniels' calming presence to focus O'Haire, he looked lost at times, and it allowed Brown to hit the Pounce and move on to the semi-finals.

[North American Title Tournament - Quarterfinals]:
Monty Brown pinned Sean O'Haire with the Pounce in 0:12:44.
Rating: *** 1/4

So the former number-one-contender to the North American Title is out of the tournament thanks to Monty Brown, as Brown joins The Hurricane in the semi-finals. If the Prophecy were mad at Niemiller before, they have to be furious now.

Match #8
MAIN EVENT
On Commentary: World Heavyweight champion Kurt Angle
If Randy Orton wins, he gets a World Heavyweight Title shot at Trick or Trouble
Randy Orton vs. Abyss (w/ Shaniqua)
Randy Orton wants a piece of World Heavyweight champion Kurt Angle in the worst way, but if he wanted to get a shot at his World Heavyweight Title, he was going to have to do something that no man has been able to do yet, and that's pin the shoulders of Abyss to the canvas, which is easy to say, hard to do. It didn't help Orton's chances that Kurt Angle conveniently decided that he needed to add a little color commentary with Joey O'Donnell and Brian Wagner. Though Angle didn't get physically involved during the match, his being there was enough to throw Orton out of whack, as Orton stopped to jaw with him on several occasions. You can't do that with Abyss though, who may or may not feel pain. If you don't stay on top of Abyss, he's going to make you suffer for it, and let's say Orton suffered a lot in this match.

Orton is a fighter, no doubt about that, but things looked bleak. As the match wore on and Abyss continued to pound on Orton, Orton looked to be drained. Orton kept firing back, but they didn't have much behind them by the end of the match. Orton was spent after Abyss nailed him with a torture rack bomb, but that's when things got interesting as STEVE BRADLEY was out, and he had Mofo in his hands! Bradley had every intention to use that baseball bat on Abyss, but Kurt Angle jumped up from the announce table and ran to cut Bradley off. Angle had to physically restrain Bradley as the Baddest Mofo On The Show desperately tried to get at Abyss. Referee Jimmy Appleseed went to the floor and tried to get both Angle and Bradley away from the ring. At this time, THE HURRICANE jumped out of the crowd and into the ring! The Man In Green got behind Abyss and nailed him with a low blow! The Hurricane knew this was only going to temporarily stun the mammoth Abyss, so he jumped on Abyss' back and turned the monster's mask over his eyes so he couldn't see! Abyss took some wild swings, but The Hurricane was out of the ring. Orton, who was up to his feet now, ducked a wild punch from Abyss and dropped the massive man with the R.K.O. and picked up the win!

Randy Orton pinned Abyss with the R.K.O. in 0:10:37.
Rating: *** 3/4

When Kurt Angle heard Orton's music start playing, he was livid. Randy Orton now gets the opportunity to meet Kurt Angle at Trick or Trouble for the World Heavyweight Title! The smile on Orton's face said it all; Angle won't be able to sneak attack Orton to get the better of him now. He is going to have to meet him face-to-face.

Trick or Trouble is really starting to take shape now, as we know of six matches officially signed for the big event that will take place from Calgary, Alberta, Canada's Saddledome on October 24th. Here is what we know so far:

World Heavyweight Title Match - Kurt Angle (c) vs. Randy Orton

North American Title Match - TBA vs. TBA

World Tag Team Title Match - The Basham Brothers (c) vs. The Hardy Boyz

Television Title Match - "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels (c) vs. Rey Mysterio Jr.

"The Crippler" Chris Benoit vs. Brock Lesnar

"Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero vs. Black Tiger

Be sure to join us next week on Explosion as the final two quarterfinal matches will take place in the North American Title Tournament with Justin Credible meeting Chris Jericho and Chris Hero taking on AJ Styles!
91Posted on 12/28/04 at 16:44:47

OK, I take back what I said about me being able to see Abyss score the upset. Actually that's the perfect sort of win for Orton, winning against the odds over what was an unbeatable mid-carder (much like when The Rock beat the Bossman and Bull Buchanan that one time).

Now here's something that's grabbed my attention - first Abyss, the monster heel, pisses off Sean O'Haire, then Steve Bradley - both fellow heels. Is there a trend starting here and I'm being incredibly observant or just mere coincidence?

Hmmm, Hurricane advances again? Yeah, I'm sticking with my new original pick, Monty Brown , for this one.I'm figuring Jericho will surely advance over Credible (after JBL interference perhaps - by the way, another loss for Layfield, I'm not shocked he lost to Benoit but I suspect that he's going to beat the crap out of somebody soon, probably Credible). Not so sure about the other match, but I'll go for the norm and say Styles.

Well the Kidman turn was inevitable. A good rationale for Kidman is needed here but I can't quash a Kidman push.

Eric Angles run continues. He needs a good feud or angle (pun intended) to really put over this streak right now. What's his record stand at now?

I can't get tired of the Goldust/Booker feud. It's so creepy that it's massively entertaining. I have no clue how this one is going to turn out, but Goldust remains a big highlight right now.

And The Black Tiger, perhaps it's time I stuck my neck out and picked someone... I dunno, his old buddy and bitter rival Dean Malenko perhaps? That'd make some sense, even if he isn't exactly like RVD in build (meh, close enough). Tell you what though, this one still holds the most intrigue for me.
Snabbit888Posted on 12/28/04 at 20:33:58

Abyss getting heels pissed at him is more a result of Shaniqua just being a complete bitch, regardless of it being against face or heel.  Abyss does her bidding, and she generally doesn't care who she pisses off.

Eric Angle, yes, does desperately need a good feud to go along with the undefeated streak.  He is currently sitting at 18 wins, 0 losses. (He has a couple of dark matches included in that total.)

Critic of the DawnPosted on 12/30/04 at 19:26:02

The same thought comes to my mind when I read your Niemiller vs. Prophecy feud as when I see most owner vs. wrestler feuds.  If Daniels is being so disruptive, why doesn't Niemiller just fire him and quite possibly sue his ass?

Eric Angle is curtain jerking again despite having a major (at least as far as TNM is concerned) winning streak.  What's his ranking, if you don't mind me asking?

Hah!  The Hurricane fails upwards in the North American Title Tournament once again.  I'm not going to pick him as a winner yet, but if he wins by fluke in the semis, then I think he just might be the next North American Champion.  Shades of Mikey Whipwreck.

Looks like the Sensationals are coming down around Kurt's ears.  Maybe he shouldn't have been such a dick to Randy Orton...  Bad karma!

The Basham Brothers have been really impressive in your circuit, but... I dunno.  I've got a couple ideas for the tag team division, so drop me an IM sometime and we can talk about it.
Better luck next time for The Revolution (incidentally, I believe Doug Basham led a stable with that name in OVW... but I could be mistaken.)

Good to see Low Ki get a victory.  I'm a big fan of his work, and it always dissapoints me just a little to see him in the midcard of the cruiserweight division.  He feels just a little bit underutilized to me, but with a roster as big as yours, that's hard to avoid in places.

London and Kidman break up!  Woo!  Good.  Paul London has a very bright future both in real life and in GCW.  Hopefully he'll go decisively over Kidman and rule the cruiserweight division for a while before getting the North American Title.

Tommy Dreamer defeats Eddie Guerrero?  Whoa!  That's a huge upset considering their places on the card!  Of course, The Revolution helped, but a victory is a victory.  I'd like Dreamer to get a title shot sometime, actually.  I doubt he'd win, but because of his victory here and the visibility of The Revolution, I think he deserves one.

Like everyone else, I'm loving the Bookdust feud.  Easily my favorite storyline in your circuit, but that's probably because I'm a huge fan of Goldie.

JBL's losing streak continues, and somewhere thousands of internet smarks rejoice!  The fact that Benoit goes over only makes the victory sweeter.  I kinda like the thing you've got going here - JBL talks a good game, but when it comes down to business, he just doesn't deliver.

Brown goes over O'Haire, and just like that the man I was expecting to win gets knocked out of the running.  Stupid Monty Brown and his stupid Pounce ruining my prediction!  <Grumbles>

Orton over Abyss, but that wasn't really unexpected.  What was unexpected was the interference of Steve Bradley and The Hurricane.  Kurt Angle is gonna be maaaaaad!  And poor Hurricane is probably going to end up looking at the lights in the end.

Good stuff.
