DCW Seasons Sleighings PPV (1/2/05)

*giant pyros go off in red and green to introduce the Seasons Sleighings PPV.  After the pyro is done action gets right under way with the entrances of D'Lo Brown and Hardcore Holly*

D'Lo Brown vs. Hardcore Holly

To start off the pay-per-view we had a pretty straight forward match, not alot of technical moves, mostly brawling, but certainly entertaining.  As the match unfolded we saw D'Lo hit several nice reversals that got a few mild pops from the crowd.  He even countered the Alabama Slam by sliding down Hardcore's back and hitting a sunset flip.  The match was somewhat slowly paced though it fit well with both of the competitors and had a nice even flow to it.  Holly dominated the end of the match though and finished Brown off with a powerbomb, folding him up immediately after for the pin.

Hardcore Holly pinned D'Lo Brown after a power bomb in 0:10:42.

Gene Snitsky vs. "The Innovator of Violence" Tommy Dreamer

Dreamer wanted to beat Snitsky real bad.  You could tell just from the look on his face that he wanted to not only end his losing streak, but be the first to defeat Snitsky.  The fans saw this, but knew that it wouldn't be that easy.  Tommy Dreamer threw just about everything at Snitsky but the kitchen sink and while he kept taking Snitsky down, Snitsky kept getting back up and kicking out of pin attempts.  Surprisingly Dreamer kept Snitsky on the defensive for the whole match... or it's also entirely possible that Snitsky was just playing with Dreamer.  Just about the only real move of note that Snitsky hit was his finisher, and really, thats all he needed.

Gene Snitsky pinned Tommy Dreamer with the Pump-Handle Side Powerslam in 0:14:30.
Rating: * 3/4

*The cameras show the door of Kevin Nash's dressing room.  The door opens and Heidenreich comes out dressed in a button up shirt, tie and brown slacks.  Nash pokes his head out too.*

Kevin Nash: Hey Jon, don't forget.  I need you down at ringside tonight.  I've come this far and I'm not taking any chances with Hogan tonight for the title.  *smirks* That belt is as good as mine.

*Heidenreich smirks too and nods in agreement.  Nash goes back into the room and shuts the door.  Heidenreich starts walking down the hallway.  After walking down the hallway and turning a corner into a new hallway he is suddenly from behind he's attacked by Abyss with a chair!  Abyss really goes to work on Heidenreich with chair shot after chair shot!  Heidenreich has been busted wide open.  Abyss throws the chair down and picks up Heidenreich.  He grabs his arm, pushes him away and pulls him forward.  Black Hole Slam onto the chair on the ground!  Abyss laughs and leaves Heidenreich almost unconscious and covered in blood on the ground.  This must have been what Raven was talking about on Brute Force when he said each flock member had a mission tonight!*

The Dudley Boys vs. Jerry Lynn & Paul London

The Dudleys didn't even wait for Jerry Lynn to be announced and went to work on Paul London as soon as he came out.  Jerry Lynn came tearing in and cleaned house shortly after though.  Despite their lack of experience London & Lynn performed very well as a tag team, hitting several combination moves.  The Dudleys seemed to be taken a little by surprise at this, but there was no question which team had the years of tag experience behind them and they certainly used it to their advantage, pulling off alot of the traditional, underhanded tag team tactics behind the ref's back.  Lynn almost had it won after hitting D-Von with the Cradle Piledriver, but Bubba made the save.  In the end it took a Bubba Cutter followed by tossing Lynn out of the ring and hitting the then legal man Paul London with the 3-D that got them the win.

The Dudley Boys (Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley) defeated
Paul London and Jerry Lynn when D-Von pinned London after the Dudley Death Drop in 0:23:30.
Rating: *** 3/4

After the match the Dudleys celebrated their win in the ring, taunting the fans as they did.

*We're shown the back again as EMTs attend to Jon Heidenreich.  Kevin Nash looks like he's beside himself with worry*

Kevin Nash: Oh no.  No, no, no, no, no!  Damn it!  What the hell happened to him?  Jesus... what am I going to do now?  Oh god.  Is he gonna be able to come back tonight?  Oh, damn it!

*The camera fades back to the arena as Nash leaves and they put Heidenreich onto a bodyboard*

Falls-Count-Anywhere: Dan "The Beast" Severn vs. John Cena

Everyone seemed on edge as to whether Cena was going to show up tonight or if he was going to take his pink slip.  Severn came out and they started Cena's music.  Nothing.  They stopped it, waited a second and started again.  Still nothing.  They tried a third time and Cena comes out of the crowd!  He slides in the ring and as Severn turns around he clocks him with his chair.  He continues to beat on Severn with his steel wrapped fist, which quickly busts Severn wide open.  Cena takes a quick break to celebrate as the fans boo.  Severn rolls to the outside of the ring to try and catch a breather, but Cena follows him right out and goes back to work.  This time Severn gets some shots of his own in and sends Cena into the ring steps face first.  He follows it up by whipping him into the guardrail, but Cena reverses it and follows him with a clothesline that takes both over the rail into the crowd.  The continue duking it out as they travel through the crowd toward the entrance way and brawl back over the guardrail into the area next to the stage the entrance sits on.  Cena finds a chair and tries to his Severn with it, but Severn ducks and grabs Cena around the waist and hits a harsh looking over the head belly-to-belly with Cena landing almost flush on the crown of his head.  Both men are on the ground for a second at this point before Severn stumbles to his feet and picks up Cena.  It looks like he's going for another belly-to-belly suplex, but Cena low blows him!  F-U onto the ground!  1... 2... kick out and 2.9!  He grabs him.  A second F-U!

Falls-Count-Anywhere Match
John Cena pinned Dan Severn with the F-U in 0:07:42.
Rating: ** 1/2

Cena got the win here tonight, but it looks like he's a bit worse for wear too as he can barely stand.  He's been so covered with Severn's blood from the start it's hard to tell if Cena himself with busted open.  Both men need to be helped to the back by officials.

"The Barbaric Berserker" Jimmy Jacobs vs. Raven

Raven was looking for revenge against Jacobs for defeating not only Steve Richards, but Abyss as well and making them look like fools in the process!  He only beat Abyss by DQ, but a win is a win.  The question on everyone's mind right now is does Jacobs have it in him?  In the early goings it appeared as though he did because he dodged, bobbed and weaved alot of Raven's attempts as striking or grabbing him.  Getting frustrated Raven decked him with a clothesline that turned him inside out.  With the tables turned Raven took his advantage to the fullest.  Every so often it'd look like Jacobs was about to mount a comeback, but was always stopped dead in his tracks.  Until Raven went for the Raven Effect and Jacobs countered it with a Northern Lights Suplex that got him a 2 count.  Jacobs started to take the match back from there, hitting a series of high-flying moves on Raven and knocking him down.  Jacobs went for a vertical suplex, but Raven reversed it and hit one of his own and floated over for the pin, putting both feet on the second rope for leverage.

Raven pinned Jimmy Jacobs after a vertical suplex in 0:18:06.
Rating: ****

Unfortunately the ref didn't see Raven's feet on the ropes so Raven was awarded the victory.  Jacobs tried to plead with the ref, but the ref can't call what he doesn't see.  Raven laughs at Jacobs as goes up the ramp to the back.

DCW World Heavyweight Title Match: Kevin Nash vs. "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan

Kevin Nash seemed very reluctant to come down to the ring without his insurance policy Jon Heidenreich in his corner, but he had to.  When the match started Nash went to the outside and stared at Hogan a minute.  He even started to walkout of the match, but he looked back at the ring half way up the ramp as the ref was counting to 10 and went back to the ring and got in.  Finally Hogan and Nash locked up.  Nash pushed Hogan back into the corner and the ref called for a clean break.  Nash almost gave it to Hogan, but went to hit him with a hard right hand, but Hogan blocks it and nails Nash with one of his own.  Nash whips Hogan to the far corner and charges in with a boot, but Hogan gets out of the way and Nash gets hung up.  Hogan nails Nash with an clothesline that sends him out of the ring.  Hogan takes this time to pose for the fans, who aren't giving him quite as enormous a reaction as they did before his match with Rick Steamboat on Brute Force.  The match continues like this with 80s style brawling and a few simple holds and slams here and there.  Later on Nash once again got a definite upperhand and went for the big boot again, but Hogan ducked, whipped Nash into the ropes and hit one of his own, following it up with the leg drop of doom.

[DCW World Title Tournament - Finals]
Hulk Hogan pinned Kevin Nash with the Big Leg Drop in 0:26:58.
Rating: -*** 1/2
[Hulk Hogan won the DCW World Heavyweight title.]

The referee hands Hulk Hogan the DCW World title, making him the first ever DCW World champion.  The Hulkster celebrates in his normal fashion as Nash, who appears to have reinjured his knee, is helped to the back.  After Nash is gone just before the PPV goes off the air Rick "The Dragon" Steamboat appears at the top of the entrance ramp!  He looks to be staring a hole right through Hogan!  Hogan, still in the ring, notices Steamboat and stops celebrating.  The PPV fades out with the two staring at eachother.

I totally predicted every match correctly!  Only thing I didn't get right was the Heidenreich stuff, but everything else... oh yeah!

Raven had to cheat to beat Jimmy Jacobs... you're really pushing Jacobs hard, it seems.  Works for me... haven't really seen him in other circuits, so that's cool.  Don't think that one is over yet though.

Cena/Severn was a good fight... and wih the way Severn is jerking me around right now, I'm glad he did the J-O-B on the P-P-V. :)

Hogan is the World champion!  I didn't think I'd say this, but how cool is it that Hogan is someone's World champion in a circuit not based in the 80's?  I love circuits that find the "smark" norm (I like some of the wrestlers too, but when a circuit is packed with 30 indy wrestler spot machines who are all 200-220 pounds, who cares?) and a Hogan/Steamboat feud for the World Title is fantastic.

Good outing yet again.  You've gotten past the hardest part of a new circuit, which is developing which characters are players and which are not, and you have a direction.  Bravo.

I'm not sure if that means I'm being predictable or if you're just really good:)

Just remember, it's less that Raven had to cheat and more that he just... well... did. (Better safe than sorry, right?;))

I assume that means no spooning anytime soon.  lmao :D (ahh... taco bell memories...)

Yeah, I know what you mean.  I've always prided myself on trying to be somewhat realistic in who will put who over and who will be where on the cards (thanks to egos and backstage politics)  I always figured that it's such a large part of real wrestling, why shouldn't it be in my circuit.  I was planning on phasing Hogan out after a while... but... now I'm considering keeping him a bit longer.

and a Hogan/Steamboat feud for the World Title is fantastic.
Ah, my master plan.  I told you the ends would justify the means. ;)

Yay! *does the happy dance*
