[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 9/20/04

Snabbit888Posted on 12/08/04 at 04:09:06

We were live in Seattle, Washington at the Key Arena, home of the Seattle Supersonics just one day removed from Retribution! The fallout from Retribution was great. Kurt Angle is still the World Heavyweight champion, defeating Rey Mysterio Jr. in a classic match. Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, and Chavo Guerrero Jr. are all not here, recovering from injuries sustained at the pay-per-view. We know for sure that we will have three North American Title Tournament first round matches tonight with Eddie Guerrero vs. AJ Styles, Monty Brown vs. Randy Orton, and in a rematch from last night, Booker T vs. Steve Bradley! In addition, Christopher Daniels will be defending his Television Title against Matt Hardy of the Hardy Boyz. All of that great action and more tonight on Monday Night Explosion! But the night started off with GCW President Ryan Niemiller coming to the ring to make a few announcements.

* * * * *

[The opening intro and pyro for Monday Night Explosion winds down and the lights come back up, revealing GCW President Ryan Niemiller already standing in the ring.]

RN: Hello Seattle!

[Obligatory hometown mention pop.]

RN: I am pleased that we are visiting Seattle for the first time, and I think that all of you fans deserve something special. Last night's pay-per-view event, Retribution, proved to be one of the greatest nights of wrestling in North American in 2004. From top to bottom, everyone on the roster gave it their all and as a result, you, the fans, were treated to a fantastic show. Although duplicating last night's event would be difficult to do, there's no reason why you fans here in Seattle shouldn't be treated to a great card as well, am I right?

[Huge crowd pop]

RN: I thought you all might agree with me. So here's what I've done for tonight here on Explosion. In addition to the three first round matches in the North American Title Tournament and the Television Title match, I have signed a rematch from Retribution of what many are already calling the best wrestling match of 2004! Kurt Angle will once again defend his World Heavyweight Title against Rey Mysterio Jr., right here in Seattle, Washington!

[A mammoth crowd pop for this. If Angle and Mysterio have a match even half as good as last night's match was, we're all in for something special here.]

RN: After his performance last night, Rey Mysterio deserves one more shot at capturing the World Heavyweight Title. However, if Mysterio fails to obtain the World Heavyweight Title, he will get no further shots in the immediate and will have to work his way back up the ladder. I am confident that this will be a main event that will...

[Niemiller's words are cut short when Brock Lesnar's music plays. The Monster makes his way to the ring and not unexpectedly looks upset. Niemiller is noticeably nervous in the ring, still a little shaken after his altercation with Christopher Daniels and Sean O'Haire last night. Lesnar has a microphone in hand as his music dies down.]

BL: What is this crap, Niemiller? I keep coming out here week after week and DOMINATING people. Not just beating them, but DOMINATING them. I took Monty Brown, one of the strongest men in wrestling, and made him my bitch! I am an unstoppable monster. There is not a man in that locker room that can beat me. I am the most ruthless, sadistic man in wrestling today. And yet I hear you out here giving Rey Mysterio Jr. another World Title shot. What did Mysterio do to deserve not one, but TWO title shots?

RN: I don't think you can question what Rey Mysterio Jr. has done in Global Championship Wrestling since the inception of this great wrestling organization. On top of that, Mysterio took Kurt Angle to limits he hasn't been taken to in the ring. As a result, it would be criminal not to give Mysterio at least one more shot.

BL: No, what's criminal is what I would do to Angle if you had the BALLS to make the match!

RN: I understand your frustrations, Brock, but things are very competitive in Global Championship Wrestling. You'll get your title shots in due time, I'm sure. However, now is not that time.

BL: Well according to my watch, right now is EXACTLY that time! I deserve a title shot, Niemiller! It's my time! It's my...

[Before either man can say anything else, "Whatever" by Our Lady Peace starts to a huge pop bring out "The Crippler" Chris Benoit! Lesnar is not amused by Benoit coming out here. As Benoit gets in the ring, he takes the microphone from President Niemiller.]

CB: Why don't you quit your damn whining, Brock!? [Crowd pop] Instead of coming out here, whining and complaining, crying about not getting a World Title shot, why don't you do like the rest of us and work for it? It took me 18 years of blood, sweat, and tears to get my opportunity to be the World champion. You hear that, Brock? Eighteen years! Wrestling in Canada, Mexico, Japan, earning my stripes, paying my dues! What dues have you had to pay, Brock? You are a great athlete, a helluva physical specimen. Nobody denies that. But you have a horrible attitude. You don't respect this business. You don't respect the hard work that guys like myself have done to make it where we are. When you come out here and cry about not getting a title shot, when you've had everything handed to you on a silver platter, it's like you're spitting directly in my face!

BL: Are you done? While your heart-jerking story of hard work, perseverance, and giving it your all truly brings a tear to my eye, I'm getting a little sick of listening to your voice. You're right, Chris. Everything was handed to me on a silver platter. And why wouldn't it? Look at me! I'm the most impressive physical specimen the wrestling world has ever seen. I'm 6'4", 295 pounds of pure man! I didn't have to work for 18 years to get my shot, because when you're like me, you take what you want, when you want! And that eats you alive inside. It eats you alive that you wasted so much of your life clawing to get to the top when all I had to do is simply say, "I want that" and it was mine! Let's face it, Chris: you are JEALOUS. You are jealous of the fact that no matter how hard you work and what you do in the world, it will be NOTHING compared to what I accomplish.

CB: Brock, I am many things. I am a crippler, I am the best damn technical wrestler in the world today, I am a former World Heavyweight champion! But one thing I am not is jealous of you, or of anybody else for that matter!

BL: Fine, if you're not jealous, you're certainly scared. Let's face the facts, Benoit. There is NO ONE in that locker room that I can't break, and that includes you, Benoit!

[Lesnar goes for a big clothesline on Benoit, but Benoit ducks and nails Lesnar with a boot to the midsection. Benoit fires away at Lesnar's chest with vicious chops as the crowd is coming to a frenzy. Benoit hits the far ropes as Niemiller is wisely climbing out of the ring. Benoit connects with a running forearm smash that knocks Lesnar through the middle ropes and to the floor. Lesnar isn't down long though and starts to climb back in the ring, but Benoit is ready for him. Lesnar wisely thinks better of the situation and backs off, backing his way up the ramp, hurling threats at Benoit the entire time. "Whatever" strikes up again as Lesnar jaws at Benoit all the way to the back.]

Match #1
Low-Ki/"Prime Time" Elix Skipper vs. Teddy Hart/Petey Williams
Petey Williams made a successful debut last night during the pre-game High Voltage as Teddy Hart's mystery partner as the two defeated The Hurricane and Shark Boy. Hart and Williams were at it again tonight as they took on Elix Skipper and Low-Ki. A great fast match that allowed all four men to showcase their talents is what we saw here. I know it's still early in their teaming, but Teddy Hart seems rejuvenated now that he's teaming with Petey Williams. All four men looked very crisp in this one and showed why at any given time, any one of these individuals is a threat to the Cruiserweight Title. Although this match could have went either way, the Canadian cruiserweights made it 2-0 as a team as Hart locked Skipper in the Sharpshooter to garner the victory.

Petey Williams and Teddy Hart defeated Elix Skipper and Low-Ki when Teddy Hart made Skipper submit to the Sharpshooter in 0:05:25.
Rating: ****

Another impressive victory for Teddy Hart and Petey Williams. If they continue to shine like they have in their first two matches, these two could be a major force in the tag team division as well as the cruiserweight division.

* * * * *

[We cut to the locker room of the Sensationals. World Heavyweight champion Kurt Angle is pacing in front of Randy Orton, who is sitting on a bench. Standing to the side looking menacing is Steve Bradley, holding Mofo in his hand. The World champion is absolutely irate with Orton.]

KA: What did I tell you, Randy!? Huh!? What did I tell you!? I specifically said, "Do not lose to Chris Benoit!" And what did you do? YOU LOST TO CHRIS BENOIT! That is completely unacceptable!

RO: I know it is!

KA: You made us look like idiots, Randy. You EMBARRASSED us, Randy. It didn't matter that I retained the World Heavyweight Title, that Chris almost ended Shawn Michaels' career, or that Steve made Booker T wish he was never born. No, that all means crap, because you got your butt kicked by Benoit!

RO: I know, I got my ass kicked!

KA: Yes you did! You are a laughing stock! You're a failure, Randy. I mean, I beat Chris Benoit... TWICE. And you can't beat him once? What's the matter with you?

[Orton stands up and gets in Angle's face. Bradley takes a step forward ready to act if necessary.]

RO: All right, Kurt! I get it! I lost. Chris Benoit made me tap out! Let it go. I'm frustrated enough about it as is. Get off my back!

KA: I'll get off your back when you stop being such a loser! But you know me, Randy. I'm a forgiving man, and I always give second chances. You have Monty Brown tonight in the North American Title Tournament. You beat him, everything's fine. But if you lose... well, let's just hope you win, all right?

RO: You know what, Kurt? I don't need you threatening me to make me want to beat Monty Brown. I'm going to go out there and I'm going to beat his ass. And all this stuff will be behind us, okay?

KA: Let's hope so.

[Orton storms out of the locker room, bumping his shoulder into Kurt Angle as he exits. Angle gives a dirty look in the direction that Orton went.]

KA: Steve, he's on his own tonight. He's going to prove himself worthy of being a Sensational, one way or another. It's true, it's true. All right, you're up next. Let's go.

[Angle and Bradley leave the area as we cut to commercial.]

Match #2
North American Title Tournament - First Round
Booker T vs. Steve "Who's Your Daddy?" Bradley
We got our first taste of the North American Title Tournament with a first round matchup that was a rematch from Retribution, pitting Booker T against former Television champion Steve Bradley of the Sensationals. Booker got the victory over Bradley last night, but it was by disqualification after Bradley brought his baseball bat into play. Booker T's ribs were still bothering him a lot and it was painfully obvious in this match that he wasn't in top condition. Booker was fighting hard, but all of his offensive momentum was being cut short as he would grab at his ribs after every move he hit. Bradley is sadistic enough when he's wrestling a man who is at full strength. You go in there with a bullseye on you and Bradley's going to hit it every time.

But Booker T is a gamer, and he kept reaching into the reserve and hitting Bradley with a flurry. Booker T looked as if he was going to hit the Book End on Bradley, but Bradley wisely nailed him with a forearm shot to the ribs, causing Booker to drop to his knees in pain. Bradley gave Booker a couple more hard shots to the ribs before hitting a hard swinging neckbreaker. Due to Booker's weakened ribs, he was unable to kick out.

[North American Title Tournament - First Round]:
Steve Bradley pinned Booker T after a swinging neckbreaker in 0:08:46.
Steve Bradley injured his left knee. He will be out for approximately 2 weeks.
Rating: *** 1/2

Steve Bradley got back to his feet and held his knee as it looked like he tweaked it in the late stages of the contest. That didn't stop him from continuing the assault on Booker T, nailing him with the Smashmouth. Bradley rolled to the floor and made us think he was leaving finally, but instead he grabbed the chair of ring announcer William Buck. Booker was slowly pulling himself up by the ropes, but in hindsight, it would have been wiser for him to stay down as Bradley got back in the ring and absolutely unloaded on Booker with the chair! The GCW Official Brigade got to the ring and was able to pull Bradley away, but the damage had been done. Booker T was in bad shape as the medical staff came to the ring to attend to Booker. Booker was unconscious, so the medical staff put Booker on a stretcher just to be safe. They got Booker about halfway up the ramp when GOLDUST came out claiming he was there to help. Goldust pushed the EMTs out of the way and proceeded to give Booker T CPR! The crowd was in shock as Goldust gave Booker mouth-to-mouth resuscitation before the GCW Official Brigade stepped in and put a stop to it. Goldust's obsession with Booker T has reached all-time heights. When Booker T comes to, he's not going to be happy about this.

* * * * *

[We cut backstage where we see GCW interviewer Mario Riviera standing by with "Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero. Guerrero stands extremely somber, not his usual fiery self.]

MR: I'm standing by with Eddie Guerrero. Eddie, last night you put Chavo Guerrero Jr., your own nephew, out of action for an indefinite amount of time, thinking he was the Black Tiger. It was revealed last night that Chavo was telling the truth and the identity of Black Tiger is still a mystery. How are you feeling tonight going into your first round match in the North American Title Tournament with AJ Styles here in just a few moments?

EG: A have a lot on my mind, essa. What happened with Chavito was an unfortunate mistake. All of this stuff with Black Tiger has clouded my vision. I thought Chavo was Black Tiger... I was wrong. That's something I'm gonna have to live with. Everybody makes mistakes. You do, Mario, I do, everybody, holmes. But the person who has made the biggest mistake is whoever is underneath that mask. I WILL find out who Black Tiger is, and when I do, what I unfortunately did to Chavo last night will be NOTHING compared to what I do to him, essa! I don't care who I have to go through to make it happen, Black Tiger WILL SUFFER!

[A now fired up Eddie pushes past Riviera and starts toward the ring.]

MR: A very motivated Eddie Guerrero seems ready to go. Back to ringside with Joey O'Donnell and Brian Wagner. Gentlemen?

[Cut back to the ring.]

Match #3
North American Title Tournament - First Round
"Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero vs. "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles
AJ Styles is toted by many to be a future World Heavyweight champion. He has that kind of talent. But I don't care if you're toted as a future World champion or if you're Joe Blow on the street, tonight was not the night you wanted to be in the ring with "Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero. Eddie is in a very dangerous state of mind as he showed last night by putting Chavo Guerrero Jr., his own nephew, out of action. Styles never had much of a chance to get going in this match as Guerrero jumped him before the bell even started, not out of hatred for Styles specifically but out of overall frustration. Guerrero beat Styles from pillar to post showing an intensity we haven't seen out of him in GCW. Styles kept going to the floor to cause some separation between himself and Latino Heat, but Guerrero would follow him out, toss him into the guardrail or the ringpost, and then bring him back in the ring for more punishment.

Guerrero hit a brain buster and the Three Amigos suplexes before going to the top for the Frog Splash. As Guerrero was about to fly, Black Tiger came out from the back and stood at the top of the ramp, taunting Guerrero. As one would expect with Eddie's state of mind, he completely lost focus on the match, jumped off the turnbuckle, and ran up the ramp after the masked Tiger. Black Tiger wisely ran to the back and quickly out of sight as Eddie gave chase. While the crowd was cheering Guerrero on, hoping that he caught Black Tiger, referee JD Sanders was issuing the ten count and Eddie Guerrero was counted out.

[North American Title Tournament - First Round]:
AJ Styles defeated Eddie Guerrero by countout in 0:07:01.
Rating: ***

Not AJ Styles' best outing in the ring by far, but thanks to a distraction from Black Tiger, he will be going to the quarter finals of North American Title Tournament. Eddie looked around frantically backstage, but never found Black Tiger. Eddie Guerrero was already in a fragile state of mind because of Black Tiger before tonight; I don't think this situation is going to help matters. Whoever Black Tiger is, I hope he knows what he's doing getting Eddie Guerrero this upset.

Match #4
"The Crippler" Chris Benoit vs. Perry Saturn (w/ Tommy Dreamer/The Amazing Red)
Chris Benoit wrestled a marathon last night, defeating Randy Orton in over 27 minutes. Despite such a lengthy match, the Crippler showed why he is one of the most well-conditioned athletes in Global Championship Wrestling as he didn't miss a step tonight against Perry Saturn of the Revolution. Saturn had Tommy Dreamer and Red down at ringside with him, and the trio has shown great continuity since their formation. That continued tonight as Dreamer and Red took multiple cheap shots on Benoit while Saturn had referee Petey Pluck distracted. Benoit knows how to fight through these odds though, and he continued to bring the fight to Saturn.

Saturn looked to be on his way to scoring the upset of the year when after Red had tripped Benoit up, he hit the Rabid Wolverine with a Death Valley Driver. The Revolution's plan seemed to have worked, but the trio got a bit too cocky and decided to pat themselves on the back rather than have Perry Saturn go for the victory. By the time Saturn went for the Rings of Saturn, Benoit had recovered enough and was playing possum. Benoit rolled out of the Rings of Saturn attempt and almost got the Crippler Crossface on, but Saturn scrambled and got to the ropes. However, when he got back up and turned around, he was caught by a huge German suplex from the Crippler. Benoit held on and gave Saturn two more Germans and called for the swandive headbutt. Red jumped up on the apron, but Benoit nailed him and sent him crashing to the floor. Tommy Dreamer went as far as to jump in the ring and run at Benoit, but Benoit sidestepped and sent Dreamer flying over the top rope. With the other members of the Revolution disposed of, Benoit ascended the turnbuckles and nailed the swandive headbutt which was enough to secure the victory here in Seattle.

Chris Benoit pinned Perry Saturn after a swandive headbutt in 0:08:19.
Rating: **** 1/4

The crowd cheered Benoit for his victory, but those cheers turned to boos as BROCK LESNAR's music hit and the Monster came out and stood at the top of the ramp. Lesnar was embarrassed earlier in the night and he was out here to get revenge. Benoit was more than ready for Lesnar, calling him down to the ring, but before Lesnar could move, the Revolution was all over Benoit! Dreamer, Saturn, and Red all stomped on Benoit as Lesnar smiled from the aisle. Dreamer planted Benoit with the Dreamer DDT before the Revolution all made their leave. When Benoit regained his bearings, he was not a happy man as he stormed to the back looking for whomever he could get his hands on.

Match #5
Billy Kidman/Paul London (Cruiserweight champion) vs. The Italian Stallions
Billy Kidman and Paul London came close to winning the World Tag Team Titles last night at Retribution, but they fell just short. They were looking to get a little bit of momentum back here against Mark Jindrak and Chuck Palumbo, the Italian Stallions. Paul London, the reigning Cruiserweight champion, started the match, and little did he know that he would be in the match for the duration. Billy Kidman obviously didn't have his head in the match. His hesitation about doing the Shooting Star Press arguably cost them the World Tag Team Titles and it was weighing heavily on his mind.

London got into some trouble early, being overwhelmed by the size of Palumbo and Jindrak. London is hard to pin down though, and he used his speed to duck under a Jindrak clothesline and nail him with a dropsault. Jindrak got back up, but was dropped again with a dropsault before London bought himself enough time by hitting a swinging facebuster on the Reflection of Perfection. London went over to make the tag, but when he did so, Kidman dropped off the apron and started walking to the back! London was yelling for Kidman to come back, but Kidman wasn't hearing him as he went through the curtain and out of sight. London being the gamer he is was still going to wrestle the match, but while he was yelling at Kidman he didn't see Jindrak tag Palumbo into the match. London turned around and walked right into a huge Jungle Kick that almost took his head off. I don't care who you are; you aren't getting up from that one.

The Italian Stallions (Chuck Palumbo and Mark Jindrak) defeated Billy Kidman and Paul London when C. Palumbo pinned London with the Jungle Kick in 0:04:30.
Rating: ** 3/4

The Italian Stallions celebrated this win as if they just won a 60-minute classic, but fact is, with two-on-one odds, it's no surprise that the Stallions came out on top. Paul London slowly got back to his feet and he was upset. London isn't somebody who loses his cool easily, but you could tell he was very upset. London left for the back holding his jaw, undoubtedly in search of Billy Kidman.

* * * * *

[After a commercial break, the first thing we see is Billy Kidman, still in his wrestling gear, carrying a large gym bag and walking toward the parking lot. Kidman gets to his car, opens up the trunk, and puts the bag in. After closing the trunk, Kidman starts to open the driver's side door when we hear Paul London's voice off camera.]

PL: Billy! BILLY! Where are you going? What's wrong with you?

[Kidman doesn't answer and unlocks the door as London comes into the picture.]

PL: Billy, talk to me! What's the problem?

[By this point, Kidman is in the car and he slams the door. London is at his window now as Kidman starts the car. London is about to say something else when Kidman drives away leaving London standing.]

PL: Dammit!

[London throws his hands up before he starts back toward the locker rooms. Cut back to the ring.]

Match #6
On Commentary: World Heavyweight champion Kurt Angle
North American Title Tournament - First Round
"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown vs. Randy Orton
According to Kurt Angle, this was Randy Orton's last chance at redemption. Orton had to win or who knows what Angle was going to do? Winning was by no means a given though as Orton was up against "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown. These two have wrestled once before in GCW, about a month ago on an edition of High Voltage. Randy Orton won that match, but he did so with a handful of tights to win a match that Brown had dominated. Orton is a two-time North American champion though, so he knows how important this title is. To add even more pressure on Orton's shoulders was that Kurt Angle and Steve Bradley were both at ringside, Angle on color commentary and Bradley looking menacing by him. But kudos to Orton, he kept his focus and wrestled a good match.

Orton was as aggressive as ever, hitting Brown as hard as he could as often as he could. When you're fighting somebody with the brute strength and power of Monty Brown, you better hit him hard and often. Brown, as we expected, tried to exert his will on Orton by running through him, hitting a variety of big side suplexes and powerslams. Some of Brown's offense seems "basic," but when you're that strong, even something like a bodyslam becomes a devastating move. Orton knew that he wasn't going to win a test of strength against Brown, so he singled out Brown's left leg. If you take out a man's vertical base, he's not going to be able to throw you around. Orton expertly picked apart Brown's leg, using a great array of submissions and blows to the knee. Orton got Brown into a figure-four leglock, and the pain was so great that Brown almost let himself get pinned a couple of times. But Brown refused to give up as Kurt Angle commented that he would have made Brown tap by now. Brown mustered up the energy to reverse the hold, putting the pressure on Orton's legs instead. Orton got to the ropes and broke the hold, but this gave Brown enough time to get to his feet.

Orton and Brown made it back up at the same time, but Orton went on the attack first. Orton tried to punch Brown, but the Alpha Male blocked it and fired back. Brown hit several more punches before flooring Orton with a clothesline. Brown had his second wind and he had the crowd fired up as he took it to Orton, hitting a huge powerslam that got him a nearfall. The crowd was on its feet as Brown called for the Pounce and waited for Orton to stagger to his feet. Angle said something to the effect of "Here we go again" as Brown went for the Pounce. Brown hit the ropes but Orton got out of the way, hit a boot to the midsection, and went for the R.K.O. Brown powered out of it, shoving Orton hard into the turnbuckle. Brown hit the ropes as Orton stumbled out and the Alpha Male flattened him with the Pounce. Three seconds later and Orton's quest of becoming a three-time champion was ended.

[North American Title Tournament - First Round]:
Monty Brown pinned Randy Orton with the Pounce in 0:14:32.
Rating: *** 3/4

Monty Brown is in the quarter finals, much to the delight of the fans in Seattle, but much to the chagrin of Kurt Angle. Angle threw his headset down on the announce table, grabbed a microphone from William Buck, and he and Steve Bradley got in the ring to confront Randy Orton.

* * * * *

[Randy Orton is still lying on the canvas, trying to recover from the Pounce. Kurt Angle has the microphone and gets in the ring, closely followed by Steve Bradley. Angle is absolutely furious.]

KA: That's it, Randy. You have failed the Sensationals, and more importantly, you have failed me, for the last time! In 1996, I defeated the best wrestlers in the world in the Olympic Games, the pinnacle of athletic accomplishment, with a broken freakin' neck! I win a gold medal with a broken neck, and you can't even beat Monty Brown? I brought you into the Sensationals thinking you had what it took to be elite. I thought you were special, Randy, but you're not! You're nothing more than a loser! I can't stress that enough Randy. You're a loser, and it's pathetic.

[Randy Orton has made his way up to his feet by now, still selling his back.]

KA: What do you have to say for yourself? Nothing I'm sure, because you're a disgrace! Your grandpa was a loser, your daddy was a loser, and you're just keeping the family legacy, aren't ya!?

[Orton has heard enough and gets in Angle's face, pushing him back into the corner.]

RO: WHY DON'T YOU SHUT THE HELL UP, KURT!? I'M GETTING A LITTLE SICK AND TIRED OF LISTENING TO YOUR DAMN MOUTH! SO JUST SHUT UP, SHUT UP BEFORE I KICK YOUR ASS, YOU SELF-RIGHTEOUS SON OF A...

[Orton is cut off when Steve Bradley nails him from behind with a forearm. Angle throws the mic down and directs Bradley what to do. Bradley forearms Orton a couple more times before dropping him with the Smashmouth. The crowd is in shock as Bradley mounts Orton and nails him with hard right hands to the forehead while Angle removes the World Heavyweight Title from around his waist. Angle yells for Bradley to pick Orton up and he does so. When Orton is to his feet, Angle winds up and decks him between the eyes with the World Heavyweight Title, opening up a cut on Orton's forehead. Angle picks up the mic again and gets in a fallen Randy Orton's face, pressing the World Heavyweight Title against his face.]

KA: You see this, Randy!? This is what makes me a winner and you a loser! You're pathetic!

[Angle slaps the unconscious Orton hard across the face as "Medal" begins to play to a huge chorus of boos. Angle flashes his smug smirk toward Orton before he and his muscle leave as the crowd is livid. We cut to commercial with a shot of a bloody Randy Orton struggling to get up but not being very successful.]

Match #7
Television Title Match
"Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels (c) (w/ Sean O'Haire/Daffney) vs. Matt Hardy (w/ Jeff Hardy)
Like the man or not (and most will say not), Christopher Daniels has the makings to be a great Television champion. He has tremendous in-ring skills, he is a crafty veteran, and he also has Daffney and the awesome Sean O'Haire to do his bidding. Matt Hardy, one-half of the number-one contenders the Hardy Boyz, had a huge opportunity to pick up some singles gold tonight as he was granted a Television Title shot this week on Explosion. Jeff Hardy was down at ringside in Matt's corner to offset the Prophecy. Although Daffney and O'Haire didn't get involved in the match, I don't think it had so much to do with Jeff Hardy's presence as it did the match not lasting that long. Things in the ring didn't get to develop that much before the World Tag Team champion BASHAM BROTHERS sprinted to the ring, grabbed Jeff Hardy from behind, and sent him head first into the ringsteps. Not far behind the Bashams was Shaniqua and her behemoth Abyss, and Shaniqua looked to have ill intentions. Matt Hardy saw Abyss coming and dove on him with a plancha, but the big man simply caught Matt and rammed his back into the ringpost. The bell sounded, and unfortunately we all knew how this match had ended.

Matt Hardy defeated Christopher Daniels by disqualification in 0:02:41.
Rating: ** 3/4
(Christopher Daniels retained the GCW Television Title.)

This is a strategy that Shaniqua has used since GCW's inception - attack your opponents and soften them up before you have to fight them. The Bashams continued to pound on Jeff Hardy, double irish whipping him into the guardrail, causing Jeff to flip upside down and hit with his back. Abyss picked Matt Hardy up over his head and put him back in the ring. The massive Abyss picked Matt up and drilled him with the Black Hole Slam. Christopher Daniels was none too happy that Shaniqua's men had interjected themselves in his match, and he let that be known by pushing Abyss in the back. That might not have been the smartest move in the world as Abyss turned around and stared Daniels down like he was a hungry dog and Daniels was a piece of meat. Abyss started after Daniels, but Sean O'Haire was quickly in the ring and stood between Abyss and O'Haire. The Key Arena was bubbling over with anticipation as these two monster stood toe-to-toe, ready to tear into each other. Shaniqua saw this too and knew this was not in her best interest, so she interjected and got Abyss out of there, much to the chagrin of the fans in Seattle. No Abyss/Sean O'Haire fight, but Christopher Daniels is still the Television champion, and the Hardyz were definitely worse for wear.

* * * * *

[GCW President Ryan Niemiller is in his office watching the aftermath of the Christopher Daniels/Matt Hardy match. He shakes his head in slight disappointment that Daniels retained the Television Title. He turns back around from the monitor and faces forward where Chris Benoit is standing at the head of his desk. Benoit has a look of utter anger on his face as he stares at Niemiller.]

CB: I want the Revolution, next week. Make it happen! I don't care if it's one-on-one, one-on-two, or one-on-three, their asses are MINE!

RN: Now Chris, I understand you're upset, but I can't in good conscious sign a one-on-three handicap match...

CB: I'm not asking you to have a good conscious! I am asking for a match with the Revolution next week on Explosion!

RN: It goes against my better judgment, but I know how you are. You won't let this die. So I'm going to sign the match. Since Tommy Dreamer will already be involved in the North American Title Tournament, it'll be Chris Benoit vs. Perry Saturn and Red. BUT, I'm going to give you the option of finding a tag team partner for the match. If you choose to forgo that right, that's your prerogative. But know that I will not be held accountable, deal?

CB: I have no problems with that. Now what are you going to do about Brock Lesnar?

RN: That is something I don't have an answer for quite yet. I assure you that it's on the agenda. I'll get back to you on it, but for now, you have your match with the Revolution.

[Benoit gives Niemiller a nod before taking his leave. We cut away to some pre-recorded comments from John Bradshaw Layfield.]

[John Bradshaw Layfield stands in the middle of a wrestling ring in an empty arena. He is standing in his wrestling gear, but he is wearing a pullover ring jacket and his big white cowboy hat. His big smile is pasted on his face as he speaks.]

JBL: We are just seven days away! Seven days away until the man who will prove to be the greatest wrestler in the history of Global Championship Wrestling, John Bradshaw Layfield, makes his in-ring debut. Soon the facts will have to be faced. FACT, I have made a killing by playing the stock market. FACT, I have so much money that I can't even begin to figure out what to do with all of it. FACT, everything I have ever attempted in my life has been a complete success. Why would anyone in their right mind think that my tenure in Global Championship Wrestling is going to be any different? You'd be foolish to think that. In everything I've done, I've simply been better than everybody else.

[JBL tips his cowboy hat.]

JBL: Next week I make my debut against Justin Credible, a man who has never and will never amount to anything. I expect to go into the match and be booed. It's understandable. There's nothing uglier in the world than jealousy and unfortunately, there are few people in this world who aren't jealous of all of my success. But by the end of the contest, when the referee holds up my hand and I'm one step closer to being the North American champion, the crowd will be on its feet, in unison, chanting, "J-B-L! J-B-L! J-B-L!" So all of you poor hillbillies in Boise, Idaho, go find a hammer and break that piggy bank, and go buy yourselves a ticket so you can witness the beginning of my ascend from mere mortal to wrestling god! Because I'm John Bradshaw Layfield, and I'm better than you!

[Fade to black.]

Match #8
MAIN EVENT
World Heavyweight Title Match
Kurt Angle (c) vs. Rey Mysterio Jr.
The crowd was on the edge of their seat with anticipation for one of the biggest rematches in recent history as Kurt Angle and Rey Mysterio Jr. locked up for the World Heavyweight Title, just one night removed from what could possibly be the best match of 2004 not only in GCW, but anywhere in the world. Although this match wasn't quite the 5-star classic last night's was, this was still a tremendous match that the crowd was very into. This match had a bit of a different feel to it as Mysterio kept things on the mat a lot more than we're accustomed to. It looked like his ankle was still giving him a bit of trouble from last night, and he compensated by wrestling on the mat. Normally it would be foolish to think that a high-flier changing his style to wrestle on the mat with an Olympic gold medal winner would be a good idea, but Mysterio has had Angle's number. Angle has built a bit more confidence against the cagey cruiserweight with the victory he picked up last night, and it showed in this match.

It was unfortunate that we couldn't have the same kind of contest we had last night, but it had nothing to do with the participants. Mysterio had some momentum going his way late as he caught himself on the apron when Angle tried to backdrop him to the floor. Mysterio nailed Angle in the back with a springboard dropkick, but unfortunately he knocked Angle right into referee Jimmy Appleseed, sending him cascading to the floor. With no referee, this became a dangerous situation. Mysterio got Angle set up for the 6-1-9 and successfully connected with it, knocking Angle back into the ring. Mysterio was on the apron when SEAN O'HAIRE was down to ringside. Mysterio saw him coming and went for an Asai moonsault, but O'Haire has 100 pounds on Mysterio and was able to catch him on his shoulder. O'Haire got a running start and tried to spear Mysterio face first into the ringpost, but Mysterio slid off of O'Haire's back and sent him into the ringpost instead! Mysterio got away, but what he didn't see was CHRISTOPHER DANIELS down at ringside sliding a fire extinguisher to Kurt Angle! Mysterio went for the West Coast Pop, but Angle turned and belted Mysterio in the face with the fire extinguisher, knocking him out cold! Daniels threw Jimmy Appleseed back into the ring who made a slow, groggy three count, allowing Kurt Angle to remain the World Heavyweight champion.

Kurt Angle pinned Rey Mysterio Jr. after hitting him with a fire extinguisher in 0:19:35.
Rating: *** 3/4
(Kurt Angle retained the GCW World Heavyweight Title.)

The Prophecy has screwed Rey Mysterio Jr. out of the World Heavyweight Title, possibly as retaliation for Mysterio saving President Ryan Niemiller from their attack at Retribution. We went off the air with Kurt Angle celebrating with the World Heavyweight Title as if he did it all by himself and the Prophecy smiling at the fallen Mysterio, extremely proud of what they did.

Be sure to join us next week as we will have the final three first round matches in the North American Title Tournament, with Chris Jericho meeting Tommy Dreamer, John Bradshaw Layfield taking on the returning Justin Credible, and Goldust one-on-one with Chris Hero! Also, Chris Benoit, unless he can find a partner, will take on Perry Saturn and Red of the Revolution in a handicap match! We'll see you all in Boise!

I tell you what, Orton looks GOOD to be a future world champ after that. I dunno why, but just the way you played out the turn suggests to me he'll take it down the road.

Of course, if I predict that, you can rest easy knowing that I DIDN'T predict how the TV title tournament would turn out. Sure you didn't fiddle the results to make sure of that? :P OK, I'll switch to Monty Brown now.

I'm liking how JBLs promos have gone so far, he's a pretty easy guy to hate, and of course I don't have to physically watch him wrestle. Naturally he'll decimate Justin Credible and were he in this tournament, I'd have him to win it all, but it'll be interesting to see where you head there.

Damnit, you're just going to keep teasing me with the Black Tiger, aren't you?

Oh, and intriguing is the Billy Kidman turn. I sort of expected something like this, but it's a case of exactly where it heads from here in the long run. OK, he turns on Paul London, says he never needed him, beats him in a match, something like that, it's where he goes afterwards that I'm wondering about.

JBL is in the NA Title tourney, you silly goose!  I plan on having a lot of fun with this character.

And trust me, no fiddling of my booking for the NA Title tournament has taken place.  Orton was always shceduled to lose first round (originally, I had him losing to Chris Hero, but that was a very early tentative plan).

I assure you there will be a Black Tiger payoff sooner than later.  And the payoff will have much Pancake Intensity, I assure you.
