NEPW Monday Night Mayhem 11/15/04

teddy1221Posted on 11/10/04 at 18:25:28

The show comes on, featuring highlights from last night's Breaking The Barriers ppv, which saw Randy Orton crowned the first World Heavyweight Champion, as well as
America's Most Wanted crowned first World Tag Team Champions, and the subsequent attack from the Havanna Pitbulls.

"Introduction to Mayhem" by Primer 55 hits, as fireworks explode around the arena.

JR: Welcome to MONDAY NIGHT MAYHEM!! I am Jim Ross back here with Jerry Lawler, for the first ever Monday Night Mayhem. Last night, New Era Pro Wrestling held its first ever show, Breaking The Barriers, and boy was it memorable, as we crowned the first two champions in NEPW, and we are going to crown a US Champion tonight, in the main event!

JL: That's right.  NEPW crowned its first World Champ, in Randy Orton, and JR, I am disgusted that a young punk like Orton is carrying our World Title.

JR:  I will disagree with you King, but what about Samoa Joe and Triple H!

JL:  Samoa Joe is a big idiot.  Apparently he doesn't realize who Triple H is....

Just then Samoa Joe makes his way out, to a big pop.  He walks right over to King.

SJ: King...did I hear you call me a big idiot?

JL:  C'mon Joe, what kinda idiot do you take me for?

SJ:  That's what I thought.  As for Triple H, last night, should have been my night...I should have won that heavyweight title, but you ruined it.  And for that, I am coming for you!

Triple H's music hits, as he makes his way down, with Batista and Ric Flair.

Triple H:  Samoa Joe, who the hell do you think you are?!?!  You are coming for me?  Samoa Joe...you are not in my league!!  I was traveling the world, meeting, and beating the best, while you were out west, wrestling in bingo halls.  All of a sudden, you show up here, and want to challenge me.  Frankly, i shouldn't waste my time on you, as that World title should be mine, but if you want a shot at me...I will give it to you...you just have to get through Evolution first!

Samoa Joe:  You are right Triple H, you were traveling the world beating, meeting some great stars, but while you married into superstardom...I earned it!!

That comment angered Triple H, and Batista held him back.

Samoa Joe:  I have been to Japan, I have traveled all over the US, meeting the best the indy's had to offer.  I honed my skills to get where I am at today.  Why do you Paul brought me in?  Because I am the next best thing.  You haven't faced anyone of my size, anyone who can hit harder.  You days are numbered.

Triple H begins cursing at Samoa Joe, as Evolution holds him back.

Samoa Joe:  Triple H, the reason you don't want to face me, is because you are afraid of me....You are a afraid someone "not in your league," will embarass you.  And you know something....you are damn right, because I will kick your ass!!!

Triple H is furious now, and slaps Joe, just like he did last night, and just like last night, Joe just smiles.

Triple H:  F**k you Joe!

Batista grabs the mic.

Batista:  Hunter, don't worry, I will take him out tonight!!

Joe smiles, and says bring it on, as the ring clears out, and we get ready for our opening bout.

Alex Shelley pinned Michael Shane with the Shell Shock in 0:10:22.
Rating: ** 1/2
[Traci interfered against Alex Shelley.]

Solid match.  Shane showed flashes of his cousin, HBK, ability, cockiness, and all,  but the Generation Next leader survived interference from Traci, to get the win.

AJ Styles pinned Super Dragon with the Styles Clash in 0:12:58.
Rating: *** 1/2
[Xavier interfered against Super Dragon.]

Styles missed the ppv, because of a family emergency, but he made it to Mayhem, and the fans couldn't be happier, as he and Super Dragon put on a thrilling match,
which was ruined by Xavier, who was still bitter about his loss last night to Super Dragon, who pinned 4 men last night. Xavier pouned on Dragon after the match, and laid him out with the Kiss Your X Goodbye. He screamed at Dragon, "You are not the best," until AJ Styles came back out, and chase him off.

Second City Saints (Ace Steel and Colt Cabana) defeated
The Spanish Announce Team (Joel Maximo and Jose Maximo) when Colt pinned
Joel Maximo with the Colt 45 in 0:05:59.
Rating: **

After the match, CM Punk, the leader of the Second City Saints, got on the mic.

Punk:  SAT's, you know why you lost tonight?  Because all mexicans, are drugged addicted idiots, and that is why the Saints are better than you!

That's all he had to say, as he dropped the mic, and the Saints left.

No-Countout-Four Corners Match for the vacant NEPW Cruiserweight Title:
Spanky drew Amazing Red, Paul London and Rey Mysterio in 0:20:00.
Rating: ** 1/2
(The NEPW Cruiserweight Title remained vacant.)

An excellent match, which could have been much better, had they been given more time.  Near the end though, it looked like Spanky might win it, as he hit Sliced Bread #2 on Red, but after 20 minutes, we still had no winner, and the time expired, so the title remained vacant.  A rematch has been signed for this Thursday on Meltdown, as the main event...with no time limit.

Backstage, Eddie Guerrero confronts CM Punk.

Eddie: Yo, esse, who are you to call mexicans a bunch of drug addicted idiots?

Punk:  What do you mean, who am I to say that, look at yourself...esse.

Eddie:  You have no respect do you. Yeah, I had my problems, but I overcame them, and I am on top of my game, and if you really think you are so much better than me, then maybe we should step in the ring together.

Punk: Look Eddie, if you really want to show the world how much better than you I am, fine.  I will see you thursday night.

Carlito Caribbean Cool pinned Shelton Benjamin with the DDT in 0:14:13.
Rating: ** 3/4

Gary Michael Capetta was in the ring, as new World Champion, Randy Orton, made his way down to a thunderous reaction.

GMC:  Well, Randy, we gotta congratulate you on winning the World Title.  It was obviously an emotional night for you.

RO:  Yes it was.  The last several years had been a bit rough.  I didn't know what I wanted to do.  I went to the military, but got in some trouble, after going AWOL.  I finally decided that wrestling was for me.  I worked my ass off to get to this point, and I wanted to make my family proud, and I did it, and no one is getting this belt off of me without a fight...

Just then, "Never Gonna Stop" rings through the arena, as Edge, Orton's opponent last night for the title, makes his way down.

Edge:  Yeah, yeah, boo hoo, you have had such a hard life. What is this crap. Give me a break.  You went AWOL from the military, because you knew you couldn't cut it.  You are just a young punk, and you won't cut it as World Champion.

RO: You know Edge, I may not have been wrestling as long as you, but I grew up around this business...I am a third generation star, and obviously.....I am better than you, because I have the World Title!!

Orton puts the belt in front of Edge's face, and Edge knocked it out of the way, and fired away at Orton.  The two men brawled around the ring for a couple minutes, until Orton went for the RKO, but Edge got out of it, and out of the ring in a hurry.  As he made his way back up the isle, he kept making belt motions around his waist to Orton.

The Young Lions (Christian York and Joey Matthews) and
Generation Next (Jack Evans and Roderick Strong) battled to a draw in 0:20:00.
Rating: *** 1/4

Great tag match between two young teams, as they took it to the time limit, but threw one great move after the other at each other. York and Matthews looked like the better team, only because they have teamed together longer, but Strong and Evans were impressive.  Look for these two teams to meet again.

Backstage, we find a pissed off Edge.

Edge:  Orton!  You better enjoy your title reign, because tonight, I have a shot at winning the U.S. Title.  And as U.S. Champion, that makes me the #1 Contender to the World Title, and you can bet your ass, I am going to use that U.S. title as a stepping stone to the World Title!!

Samoa Joe pinned Batista after a powerslam in 0:15:54.
Rating: * 1/4
[Ric Flair interfered against Samoa Joe.]

Typical big man match here, a lot of kicks, punches, and slams.  Batista actually kicked out of Joe's Island Driver, but despite interference from Ric Flair, Joe came out with the win. Joe grabbed a mic.

Joe:  One down...I guess that makes you next, Old man(pointing to Ric Flair).  See you Thursday.

Joe smiles, as he leaves the ring area, as Flair has a worried look on his face.

10-Man Battle Royal for the vacant NEPW United States Title:
John Cena won a 10-man Battle Royal:
x E. Guerrero threw out Lyger in 0:02:34
        x E. Guerrero threw out Conway after a duck-down move in 0:04:05
x Edge threw out E. Guerrero in 0:05:08
x K. Angle threw out Show after a forearm to the back in 0:10:41
        x J. Cena threw out K. Angle in 0:12:19
x Edge threw out Benoit in 0:12:31
x Edge threw out Jericho after a power bomb in 0:14:44
x J. Cena threw out Booker in 0:16:10
x J. Cena threw out Edge after a dropkick in 0:16:31
Rating: ** 1/2
(John Cena won the NEPW United States Title.)

Randy Orton came down for commentary during the match, and never got involved, but he and Edge exchanged verbal blows all night.  Just as it looked like Edge as going to eliminate John Cena, and win the U.S. title, he started yelling insults to Orton, which gave Cena the opening to eliminate Edge, and win the U.S. title!

Card rating: ** 1/2

Not too much I can give you in-depth feedback on yet (as it works with most circuits in their infancy) but things are moving in a good direction.  Orton/Edge is a cool feud to start with for your World Heavyweight Title.  The most important thing to do with a new circuit, IMO, is establish the importance of your top belt.  You're doing a good job of starting that.  Also, Triple H/Samoa Joe is an interesting beginning feud as well.  I will be reading in the future.

thanks for the reply.  I know its going to take me some time to get things developed the way I want, and establish the roster I want.  Right now I got about 50 wrestlers on the roster, and only two shows(maybe a third one), and I will weeding out the guys I want eventually.  I have ideas, and as long as I have the time(work is killer, not to mention this virus I have, that has kept me home a few days), things should stay fairly interesting.

I think a lot of us can appreciate the time drainer that is work. Oh well. Orton and Cena are decent first champions for the fed, establishing the belts and setting up the chance for more guys to be big names down the lines.

I don't think having 50 guys is so bad. I always see guys with, like, 20 and think it's not enough. No chance for Royal Rumbles, no chances to have many huge PPVs, and there's always the risk of the same few feuds being recycled over. 40 is always a good base number, but considering you're starting out, 50 is nice to see who really works and who doesn't (weeding out the latter, sort of like you said).
