Thursday Night Throwdown (November 11, 2004)

{The crowd was buzzing with excitement and the show kicked off with President Murphy in the ring.}

President Murphy: Welcome to another episode of THURSDAY NIGHT THROWDOWN!

{The Crowd goes wild}

PM: I am out here tonight to adress one Doug Basham. You said last week that there would be nothing I can do...

{The soundsystem blares and Chris Benoit's theme music kicks in. Out walks "The Crippler" Chris Benoit.}

Benoit: Hold it right there, President Murphy. I got something I want to say. Basham, you call yourself "The Machine", you think I was the first step in your little "Revolution"...Well I have a little step I'm gonna take and its going to be on your ass after I kick it here tonight...

{This brings on the sounds of machinery, and none other than Doug Basham}

PM: Basham, stop right there, Tonight you get your chance to battle Benoit...

Basham: Who said that I would give him that chance? You think you can force me into a battle I've already won?..

PM: I can do whatever I damn well please, and if you don't show then Benoit will battle Rob Van Dam at Live For The Moment...

{Crowd cheers, Benoit smiles, and Basham looks irate.}

Basham: Well I'll fight your little fight, Benoit your gonna pay for this little charade. You can't mess with the future of wrestling. I'll destroy you again and then I'll move on to fight RVD for the GWC World Title...

Benoit: I will make you tap out, I will break your arm, I will break your spirits, and I will take your title shot and if you don't believe me, PROVE ME WRONG!...

{The Crowd goes nuts as the show cuts to a commercial. We return to see Michael Shane and Traci in the ring.}
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Michael Shane w/Traci vs. William Regal -
This match never really got going and Shane won via DQ. Maven was down at ringside doing commentary and he pounced on Michael Shane as soon as he got the opportunity. These two battled all the way to the back as Traci was following shrieking all the way.
Match Rating: 3/4*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Petey Williams w/Scott D'Amore vs. Rey Misterio -

Well in a rematch from last week Williams went one on one with Misterio. Although unlike last week this match ended in DQ with Misterio getting the victory when D'Amore tripped Misterio. Williams took the hockey stick from D'Amore and broke it over the back of Rey Rey. Williams abuse continued until officials broke it up.

Match Rating: * 1/2
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
{The camera's fade to the back. Colt Cabana and Carlito Caribbean Cool are talking as Chris Harris walks by.}
Cabana: Well if it isn't Chris Harris. Next time you are bringing Dusty his food tell him I said "You're Welcome"...
Harris: For What?...
Cabana: For not kicking his ass last week like I should of...
Cool: Yeah man, that tub of lard was way out of line, and that definitely was not COOL...
Harris: I have a better idea, why don't you guys explain it to him yourself when me and him meet you two slugs in the middle of the ring, right here tonight!
{Crowd goes nuts. Just as Harris begins to speak again Cool spits apple chunks in his face. Harris responds by slapping him. This leads to Cool and Cabana stomping a mudhole in him until James Storm and Dusty Rhodes run them off.}
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Kurt Angle vs. Lance Storm -

In what was the best match of the night so far, Kurt Angle met with Lance Storm. These two battled back and forth, using counters and suplexes galore. Submission holds and great technical wrestling was on display in this one. The match ended with Lance Storm connecting with his Superkick.

Match Rating: ** 1/2
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
{America's Most Wanted made their way out to the ring for James Storm's match against Spike Dudley. Harris and Storm were mouthing to the camera's that Cool and Cabana were dead men walking.}
- "Cowboy" James Storm vs. Spike Dudley -
Spike Dudley came to the ring with a purpose and James Storm appeared distracted when Carlito Caribbean Cool came to the top of the ramp before being chased off by Chris Harris. D-Von and Bubba then jumped the guardrail and Storm turned straight into a Dudley Death Drop. When the ref came back from ushering Harris and Cool away, Spike simply hit the Dudley Dog for the victory.
Match Rating: ** 1/4
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- "Mr. Thursday Night" Rob Van Dam vs. Test -

This match was simply meant as a tune up match for RVD. That was until Doug Basham showed up and tossed Test the ring bell behind the ref's back. Test blasted RVD with it and covered him for the victory in just over two minutes. After the match Basham climbed in the ring and slapped an unconcious Van Dam in the face while screaming that he doesn't stand a chance and the Revolution will roll on through him at Live For The Moment.

Match Rating: * 3/4
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- The Dudley Boys (Bubba Ray and D-Von) w/Paul Heyman vs. Chuck Palumbo and Maven
Palumbo and Maven definitely had experience working against them. The Dudleys have held countless tag team titles and this was the first match that Maven and Palumbo tagged for. However, Maven and Palumbo brought a youthful exuberance to the ring and really brought it straight at the Dudleys. The match ended in a bit of a surprise as Bubba worked over Maven until the Tough Enough champ caught him off guard with a Belly to Belly Suplex and made a tag to Chuck who hit a monsterous Running Powerslam for the victory as D-Von was cut off by Maven.
Match Rating: ** 1/4
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
{The show faded to a commercial break and we return to the semi-main event.}

- "Classic" Colt Cabana and Carlito Caribbean Cool w/Jesus vs. "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes and "Wildcat" Chris Harris w/James Storm -

Tempers flared as this one quickly got out of hand having all 6 men in the ring. Jesus was knocked to the outside by Chris Harris as he hit him with a spear, while Cool tossed James Storm over the top and followed him out as they battled to the back leaving Colt Cabana and Dusty Rhodes standing in the ring. Dusty connected with his Bionic Elbow and covered Cabana for the win.

Match Rating: *** 1/2
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
{Van Dam was spotted watching a TV monitor in the back as the main event was coming up next.}
- "The Crippler" Chris Benoit vs. "The Machine" Doug Basham -
Just like last week these two met in a violent affair. Van Dam may be next in line for Basham but there is no way he can avoid Benoit. Benoit had the advantage and Basham escaped to the outside to gain his breath. Benoit followed him out and was met with a clothesline for his troubles. Benoit was then run from Post to Post head first. The action spilled back into the ring and Basham hit his Leg Lariat and used the ropes for leverage. Benoit was foaming at the mouth over this as we went off the air.
Nice shows.  I like what is going on with Colt and Dusty, it should help elevate Colt.  This thing with Doug Basham is getting interesting. Should be a good match between he and RVD, but Basham better watch his back for Benoit.
I really dig that you're pushing Doug Basham.  It's like you're looking into the future of GCW by about 4 years. :)
Wow.  For the wrestlers you're using, you're having fairly poor match ratings.  Are you by chance using First Edition, or is it just the fact that none of the wrestlers in your circuit have had the chance to get over yet?
At the moment, Colt Cabana is the independant wrestler that I'm most looking forward to seeing.  I haven't yet seen him in the ROH DVDs I own, and even after attending several ROH shows this fall I haven't seen him, since he's been out for a few months selling a Generation Next beatdown.  I've heard extremely good things, however.
As mentioned, you have a very strong looking tag team division.  Throw a couple original pairings together and it might get very interesting.
A lot of people are pointing to Doug Basham as a future star, but I really haven't seen the greatness yet because of his lack of puch.  He seems like a solid worker from the few singles matches they give him, and he's clearly a stronger worker than Danny, but... eh.  It's good to see you giving unusual guys pushes, however.  It keeps things fresh.
