Thursday Night Throwdown (November 4, 2004)

{The camera pans in on a sold out crowd. The fans are going beserk and are buzzing with anticipation about who might be wrestling here tonight.}

- "Classic" Colt Cabana vs. William Regal -

This was a good back and forth bout to get the crowd going early. The fans were solidly behind Regal as Cabana bad-mouthed some fans at ringside. "Classic" Colt Cabana finished William Regal off with a DDT followed by the Colt 45. The crowd was absolutely buzzing and booing Cabana as he walked to the back.

Match Rating: *** 1/2

{William Regal made his way to the back as The Dudley Boys and Paul Heyman came to the ring.}

- The Dudley Boys (Bubba Ray, D-Von, and Spike) w/Paul Heyman vs. America's Most Wanted (Chris Harris and James Storm) and "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes -

This match turned into an all out brawl. The Dudleys attempted to introduce tables into the match but their attempts were thwarted by Chris Harris and Dusty Rhodes. James Storm was knocked silly by a chair shot from Paul Heyman but Harris and Rhodes fought back and eventually Rhodes gained the advantage on Spike. Dusty hit his patented Bionic Elbow and put away the smallest of the Dudley Boyz.

Match Rating: ** 1/2

- Carlito Caribbean Cool w/Jesus vs. Lance Storm -

Storm and Cool went back and forth until Jesus got involved. Cool and Jesus put the boots to Storm giving Lance the DQ victory. The fans weren't as in to this one as they had been earlier in the night.

Match Rating: *

{Just as they made their way to the back, a man in a suit walks out as "Smoke on The Water" by Deep Purple begins to play. The man slowly and methodically makes his way to the ring. He grabs a mic.}

President Murphy: Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, I am Ed Murphy, President of the Global Wrestling Committee. The future is bright and the stars have come to fight. Tonight we have already seen The Dudley Boys, Dusty Rhodes, and others. But the best has yet to come. We have two special main events, two Number One Contenders matches. The winners will face off for the right to be crowned the very first GWC World Champion. Not only will they battle for gold, but they will headline out very first Pay-Per-View event, Live For The Moment. In our first bout "The Crippler" Chris Benoit will do battle with "The Machine" Doug Basham, and in our second Kurt Angle goes one on one with "Mr. Thursday Night" Rob Van Dam.

{Crowd goes absolutely nuts}

PM: Thank you for showing your support here tonight as I know you will in the future...

- Chuck Palumbo vs. Test -

In a battle of two of the biggest men in GWC, Palumbo and Test went head to head. The match was filled with stiff shots and hard blows. The hardest of which came when Test went for a powerslam but got caught with Palumbo's version of the Clothesline From Hell. It knocked Test for a loop and stunned him just long enough for Chuck to pick up the victory.

Match Rating: ** 3/4

- Petey Williams w/Scott D'Amore vs. Rey Misterio -

Well we changed gears as we went from two of the biggest to two of the smallest in the forms of Rey Misterio and Petey Williams. These two absolutely electrified the crowd. It went back and forth and only came to an end when Williams hit his Canadian Destroyer not once, but twice. Misterio fought hard but tonight it just wasn't in the cards.

Match Rating: ***

- Maven vs. Michael Shane w/Traci -

Maven had the upperhand in this one, Shane didn't go down without a fight. The Tought Enough Champion showed the GWC crowd what the WWE saw in him when he first arrived before injuries and unjust treatment set him back. Maven is primed to be a star in this business and hopefully it will come to fruitation here in the GWC. Maven picked up the victory when Traci interjected herself into the match.

Match Rating: * 3/4

{As the match ends, the camera cuts to the back room where Colt Cabana is drinking a Sprite in the food hall where Dusty Rhodes walks in.}

Rhodes: Well Well Well, if it isn't "Classic" Colt Cabana. You put on one hell of a show tonight. Regal is no slouch.

Cabana (Looking less then amused): What do you want you old geezer, I'm "Classic" and you're nothing more than some has been who walked around carrying Ric Flair's jock strap for him.

Rhodes: Well I was merely congratulating you on your victory, but I can see that you aren't to receptive to compliments. Maybe you will be more receptive of an asswhoopin'.

Cabana: Don't tempt me, 'cause when you cross a legend in the making like Colt Cabana, You will regret the day you step in the ring with "Classic"...Colt...Cabana...

{Cabana drenches Dusty with his Sprite as Colt walks away. Rhodes stood their fuming until the camera panned out.}

- "The Rabid Wolverine" Chris Benoit vs. "The Machine" Doug Basham -

This match looked to be a mere bump in the road of Benoit's rise to the top here in GWC, but Basham thought otherwise. Basham took the fight right at Benoit for most of the 13 minutes the match lasted. Benoit mounted one hell of a comeback nearing the 10 minute mark, but Basham seized control and finally connected with the Leg Lariat for the 3 count. Benoit looked stunned as Basham moves on to Seattle, Washington and Live For The Moment.

Match Rating ** 1/2

{With one of the main events in the books Kurt Angle made his way out to the ring and drew major heel heat from the sold out crowd.}

- Kurt Angle vs. "Mr. Thursday Night" Rob Van Dam -

This match was a quick one as Kurt Angle was distracted by a huge fan at ringside who seemed to be taunting Angle. Van Dam capitalized and scored a minor upset with the 5 Star Frog Splash.

Match Rating: * 1/2

{After the match Angle fled the ringside area, obviously this man has Angle worried. Van Dam celebrated around the ring until Doug Basham showed up at the top of the ramp.}

Basham: Cut his music. I said cut his f*ckin' music. Now I wasted away in the "minor leagues" at Ohio Valley Wrestling, I was screwed by WWE brass, and quite frankly you fans have never given me the time of day...

{The Crowd boos and RVD looks confused}

Basham: Now there is a Revolution goin' on here in GWC, Benoit was the first step, you are the second (Points at RVD), and there is nothing that President Murphy, "Mr. Thursday Night", or the Wrestling profession can do about it. I am "The Machine", I am Doug Basham, and I am going to be the first GWC World Champion...

{Basham drops his mic and the camera pans out with Basham glaring down at the ring and more specifically RVD}

nice first show.  things look interesting.  Sounds like Doug Basham is on a mission, but I would like to see RVD take that world title.  Big win for Petey Williams over Rey Rey.  What the hell is Colt thinking....messing with Dusty Rhodes!?  But what a better way to rise to the top, than feud with Dusty Rhodes.
