[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 8/23/04

Snabbit888Posted on 11/03/04 at 07:05:49

We were in San Diego, California, the hometown of Rey Mysterio Jr., at the San Diego Sports Arena for Monday Night Explosion! The fans were pumped to get to see their hometown boy, but one person who couldn't be nearly as happy was World Heavyweight champion Kurt Angle, who was pinned by Mysterio Jr. last week. Angle and Mysterio were both in the house, so who knows what could happen? Also, an 8-man tag team match has been signed with the Hardy Boyz and the World's Greatest Tag Team joining forces to take on Shaniqua's men: Abyss and the World Tag Team champions the Basham Brothers, as well as the bizarre Goldust! Tonight promised to be an exciting night of action.

* * * * *

[After the introduction to Monday Night Explosion is complete, we see GCW President Ryan Niemiller already standing in the ring with a microphone in hand. This is an oddity: what does Niemiller have to say? We are about to find out.]

RN: Hello San Diego!

[Cheap crowd pop that Niemiller seems to enjoy a little too much.]

RN: I promise you that this won't take long, but I have a few announcements regarding some events that are forthcoming in Global Championship Wrestling. The next two weeks on Explosion should be very exciting as some new things are being tried that we haven't yet done on Explosion. First of all, four teams in GCW are going to get a golden opportunity, and it starts here tonight. The GCW Championship Committee and myself have set up a four team tournament to determine who will meet the Basham Brothers at our next pay-per-view event, Retribution, on September 19th, for the World Tag Team Titles! The first two matches will take place tonight as Rob Conway and Nick Dinsmore will meet the Italian Stallions in one match, while Paul London and Billy Kidman will meet Low-Ki and Elix Skipper in the other. The two winning teams will square off next week for a shot at the World Tag Team Titles!

[A decent pop for this. Nothing earth shattering, but it will be interesting to see which team walks away the number-one contenders.]

RN: In addition to that, I want to give the fans something special. That is why also on next week's Explosion, there will be a GCW first: the Wild Card Match. How this works is the names of all wrestlers who are able to compete will be put into a drawing. Two names will be pulled out at random, and those two wrestlers will be forced to wrestle each other. What this could lead to is any number of things: foe vs. foe, friend vs. friend, tag team partner vs. tag team partner, and even a potential title match. That's right, if a champion's name is drawn, his title will be up for grabs! The possibilities are endless!

[Another decent pop. The San Diego crowd seems to be a bit upset that all of these happenings seem to be set for next week and not tonight.]

RN: And finally, also for next week... [The crowd boos.] ... one of my favorite matches of all-time will take place. Twenty of the top superstars in Global Championship Wrestling will all converge in the ring for a good old-fashioned over-the-top-rope battle royal! [A good pop for this.] That's right; twenty men will all fight each other in hopes of earning a hard fought victory... and the opportunity to face Lance Storm at Retribution for the North American Title! Good luck to all involved and...

[Niemiller is cut off by the sounds of "Medal." We all know what that means... here comes the World Heavyweight champion. As the crowd chants "YOU SUCK!" in time with the music, Kurt Angle steps out from the back. He has a particularly menacing scowl on his face as he stomps to the ring. Angle grabs a microphone from William Buck before he gets in the ring. As the music dies down, Angle does nothing but stare at Niemiller. After about 15 seconds, Angle speaks.]

KA: ...Well?

RN: Um... well what, Kurt?

KA: Well... what are you going to do about this?

RN: Kurt, I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about.

KA: Oh, I bet you do! I bet you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about!

RN: No, really, Kurt... don't know what you're talking about.

KA: Fine. Let me refresh your memory. Roll the tape!

[The GCW VideoTron comes on, showing a clip from last week's Explosion. More specifically, what was shown was Rey Mysterio Jr. pinning Kurt Angle via the West Coast Pop. When the clip is over, the crowd pops huge.]

KA: That's what I'm talking about! [Pause] ...Well!?

RN: I don't know what you're getting at, Kurt.

KA: I want you to reverse that decision! [Crowd boos loudly.]

RN: I have a feeling I'm going to regret this but... why exactly should I reverse this decision, Kurt?

KA: Isn't it obvious? He was pulling my tights!

[The crowd explodes into boos.]

RN: Kurt... he wasn't pulling your tights.

KA: He was too!

RN:No, he wasn't.

KA: Then he had his feet on the ropes!

[The boos for this statement are only matched by the laughs at this ridiculous claim. Even President Niemiller laughs a little bit.]

RN: It's impossible for Mysterio to put his feet on the ropes with the West Coast Pop.

KA: Well he did some form of cheating, because there's no way that 80-pound midget pinned me fair and square, oh it's true!

RN: I'm sorry, Kurt, there's nothing I can do about your wounded ego.

KA: Oh yes there is, tubby. [Niemiller raises an eyebrow at Angle.] I want another shot at that punk-nosed... punk!

RN: Hrm... I don't know. Let's ask the people. Would you all like to see Kurt Angle and Rey Mysterio Jr. in the same ring tonight?

[An absolutely thunderous ovation shakes the walls of the San Diego Sports Arena.]

KA: Yeah! See? These people aren't as dumb as they look!

RN: Well as President of Global Championship Wrestling, I'm going to make a match. Tonight, it will be Kurt Angle... [Crowd boos loudly] ...and Television champion Steve Bradley... [Crowd boos] ...taking on Rey Mysterio Jr.... [The crowd explodes into cheers again.]

KA: All right! A handicap match! Maybe you aren't as dumb as YOU look either, Niemiller.

[Niemiller stares at Angle, not impressed by Angle's joke.]

RN: Taking on Rey Mysterio Jr.... AND...

KA: And!?

RN: AND... "The Crippler" Chris Benoit!

[The crowd once again bursts into cheers. Kurt Angle, on the other hand, has an entirely different view on this.]

KA: What! You... you can't... this is an... but you... and Benoit!?

RN: Good luck, Kurt.

[And with that, President Niemiller makes his exit from the ring. The World Heavyweight champion is left not at all happy with what has transpired. Angle leaves the ring after a bit of pouting, and we cut to the announce team of Joey O'Donnell and Brian Wagner discussing what just went down.]

Match #1
Number-One Contenders Tournament - Semi-Finals
Rob Conway/Nick Dinsmore vs. The Italian Stallions
When the night started, these two teams had no idea they'd be getting this opportunity. I think that both the Italian Stallions and Rob Conway and Nick Dinsmore were a bit too revved up for this match, and what resulted is a little sloppiness from both sides. It's hard to blame them though as it's not often that a chance to become the number-one contenders for the World Tag Team Titles comes along like this. When Dinsmore and Conway finally settled down and got into a groove, they looked to have this match in hand. However, it's hard to ignore the pure power that Chuck Palumbo and Mark Jindrak possess, and Nick Dinsmore saw it first hand as Palumbo nailed him with a huge running powerslam that knocked the wind out of him, giving the Stallions an invite into the finals next week.

The Italian Stallions (Chuck Palumbo and Mark Jindrak) defeated Rob Conway and Nick Dinsmore when C. Palumbo pinned N. Dinsmore after a running powerslam in 0:07:54.
Rating: * 3/4

The Italian Stallions now had to wait to see whether they'd be facing Paul London and Billy Kidman or Elix Skipper and Low-Ki in the finals. Either way, Chuck Palumbo and Mark Jindrak will have a decided size advantage next week.

Match #2
The Hurricane vs. Randy Orton
Randy Orton has been fuming all week, embarrassed that Chris Benoit locked him in the Crippler Crossface last week. Orton came out this week with a chip on his shoulder. The Hurricane is a scrappy individual, but he had a huge mountain to climb if he was going to defeat the former 2-time North American champion. The Hurricane knew that if he was to walk out of San Diego with a win, he was going to have to strike early, and that's exactly what he did. The first thing the Man In Green did when he got to the ring was climb to the top rope and surprise Orton with a flying cross body press, while still wearing his cape! Orton was almost pinned right from the get-go, but The Hurricane didn't let up, hitting Orton with several dropkicks and armdrags. Orton was back on his heels as The Hurricane whipped him into the turnbuckle, but the tide swung in his favor when The Man In Green charged in and Orton nailed him with a back elbow. As The Hurricane staggered backward, Orton took his head off with a clothesline.

Despite the early match scare, Randy Orton buckled down and more or less destroyed The Hurricane. Orton showed that meanstreak of his that has been coming out recently, not giving The Hurricane a chance to breathe. It didn't take long for Orton to finish The Hurricane off, planting him with R.K.O. and leaving San Diego with a solid victory.

Randy Orton pinned The Hurricane with the R.K.O. in 0:04:41.
Rating: *** 1/4

An impressive win for Randy Orton, who looks as fired up as we've seen him in GCW. Orton didn't even take the time to gloat about his victory. He simply left the ring in a hurry, looking very unpleasant. The Hurricane got a decent round of applause as he made it back to his feet and headed to the back.

Match #3
"The Innovator of Violence" Tommy Dreamer vs. Brock Lesnar
Tommy Dreamer and Brock Lesnar are no strangers to each other. As a matter of fact, it was Dreamer who was the first man to pin Lesnar's shoulders to the mat. However, that was a completely different Brock Lesnar. Lesnar nowadays is a man possessed, obsessed with getting another shot at the World Heavyweight Title. Dreamer knew that coming in, and he had a plan. Unfortunately for him, that plan was quickly thrown out the window when Lesnar started beating on him, hitting Dreamer with two overhead belly-to-belly suplexes. As Dreamer was being tossed around the ring, the Innovator of Violence became desperate, pulling out a pair of brass knuckles. He tried to clock Lesnar with him, but the monster grabbed Dreamer's arm and twisted it, causing Dreamer to drop the knux to the canvas. Lesnar scooped Dreamer up and dropped him with the F-5, but he didn't go for the cover.

As referee Jimmy Appleseed checked on Dreamer, Lesnar went over and picked up the brass knuckles and slipped them on. Lesnar pushed Appleseed out of the way and brought Dreamer to his feet. Lesnar hit the ropes and absolutely demolished Dreamer with the brass knuckles. Dreamer fell to the mat in a heap as blood started to trickle from his forehead. Lesnar tossed the knux out of the ring and made an arrogant cover, but there was no chance of Dreamer kicking out.

Brock Lesnar pinned Tommy Dreamer after hitting him with brass knuckles in 0:04:34.
Rating: ***

Brock Lesnar had won the match, but he wasn't done fighting as PERRY SATURN ran down to the ring and nailed Lesnar from behind. Saturn caught Lesnar by surprise and was able to take him over with a T-Bone suplex. Saturn locked on the Rings of Saturn which surprisingly got a nice pop. Lesnar was in obvious pain, but that pain became a primal scream as he somehow mustered up the strength and got to his feet with Saturn still on his shoulders. Lesnar spun Saturn around and he got an F-5 as well! Lesnar had left both Tommy Dreamer and Perry Saturn laid out, but he had more to contend with as here was THE AMAZING RED! Red was on the apron and he nailed Lesnar with a springboard dropkick! Lesnar staggered backward as Red hit the ropes, but Lesnar caught him and hit a spinebuster. Lesnar was finally able to leave with Tommy Dreamer, Perry Saturn, and The Amazing Red all laid out.

* * * * *

[After the commercial break, we are backstage with Tommy Dreamer, Perry Saturn, and Red. All three men look a little banged up after their failed attempts to take down Brock Lesnar. Joey O'Donnell speaks to them from the broadcast position.]

JO: We are now being joined by Tommy Dreamer, Perry Saturn, and the Amazing Red. Gentlemen, you seem to have formed some sort of makeshift alliance here against Brock Lesnar. Why have you three come together?

TD: O'Donnell, it's not just against Brock Lesnar. It's against EVERYONE in GCW. We have people like Brock Lesnar showing us no respect. Hell, nobody is showing us any damn respect! Well you know what? Instead of waiting for someone to give us respect, we're going to TAKE IT. Doug Williams came in here declaring he was going to end hardcore wrestling, send me packing my bags and out of GCW. Well I'm still here, and he's out with a torn ACL! Hardcore isn't a style; it's our way of life! So when you got people like Doug Williams trying to end that, and people like Brock Lesnar trying to punk everyone out, we're going to stand up to them! You're looking at a revolution, O'Donnell! It's time for us to take what's ours!

JO: A revolution?

PS: You heard him, O'Donnell! He didn't stutter! Sooner, rather than later, GCW is going to be our playground!

JO: All right, well, gentlemen, thank you for your time.

R: Whatever, O'Donnell.

TD: Let's go, boys.

[The trio leaves. Cut away to the locker room of Paul London and Billy Kidman.]

* * * * *

* * * * *

[We are in the locker room of Billy Kidman and Cruiserweight champion Paul London. Kidman looks a little down, whereas London is his regular peppy optimistic self.]

PL: Now I know you're upset that you didn't win the Television Title, Billy, but you have to look forward.

BK: I know, man... but I had him! I had a sound strategy and everything. Steve Bradley's just a little tougher than I thought he was.

PL: That's okay though. Because we have another chance. When I said we were going to get you some gold too, Billy, I meant it, and now we, the most exciting young tag team in GCW, all we have to do is win this tournament and BOOM! We're beating the Basham Brothers for the World Tag Team Titles at Retribution! That's what I'm talking about!

BK: I hope so... but I don't know. I mean, Steve Bradley kicked my ass last week!

PL: You can't be thinking like that. You have to think positively. Sure, we may not have had tons of success in tag team competition, but that's not going to change unless we're confident! It just takes one win, and what better way to start on the road to the World Tag Team Titles than with a win tonight and a birth in the finals of this tournament?

BK: ...You're right. Let's do this.

PL: That's what I'm talking about! Let's go!

[Kidman and London knock their fists together before they leave for the ring, clapping and getting themselves pumped up for the match.]

Match #4
Number-One Contenders Tournament - Semi-Finals
Billy Kidman/Paul London (Cruiserweight champion) vs. Low-Ki/"Primetime" Elix Skipper
It seems as though Paul London has made it his mission to get some gold around the waist of his tag team partner Billy Kidman. Kidman's bid for the Television title was unsuccessful a week ago, but a second light was found as they were put in this tournament. Low-Ki and Elix Skipper weren't going to step aside and let them go through to the finals without a fight. Kidman started the match for his team, and to be quite honest, he looked downright awful. Kidman was making some very simple mistakes and Skipper was taking advantage of them. Kidman made a frustrated tag to Paul London as the Cruiserweight champion tried to calm his partner down.

London came in and he looked as crisp as ever. London has really come into his own as of late and is becoming one of the premier cruiserweights in the world. London was dishing out dropsaults left and right on Elix Skipper. London caught Skipper with a swinging facebuster and tagged in Billy Kidman, telling him to hit the Shooting Star Press. Kidman tentatively went to the top, but he wasted too much time as Skipper got back up and crotched him on the top rope. Kidman fell back into the ring where Skipper locked him in a position for a vertical suplex. Skipper tried to hoist Kidman up, but Kidman rolled Primetime into a small package and was able to hold his shoulders down for the win!

Billy Kidman and Paul London defeated Elix Skipper and Low-Ki when Kidman pinned Skipper after a small package in 0:04:45.
Rating: ** 3/4

Billy Kidman picks up the win for his team as Paul London jumped in the ring to celebrate. Strangely, Kidman didn't look nearly as excited despite picking up the winning fall. Elix Skipper was upset with himself about losing the match as he and Low-Ki headed to the back. Next week it will be Billy Kidman and Paul London taking on the Italian Stallions with a World Tag Team Title shot on the line!

* * * * *

[GCW President Ryan Niemiller is seated at his desk in his office backstage. He is looking over some paperwork when two of the top teams in GCW, the World's Greatest Tag Team and the Hardy Boyz enter the office. Niemiller looks up from his papers and speaks to them.]

RN: Hello guys. How can I help you, gentlemen?

CH: We were just curious about something. You set up this tag team tournament to determine who meets the Basham Brothers at Retribution.

RN: Yes, I did.

MH: What we want to know is...

SB: Why aren't we in it?

RN: Ah... that's a valid question. There is no doubt that both the Hardy Boyz and the World's Greatest Tag Team are two of the finest tag teams in the world today. Both undoubtedly deserving of a World Tag Team Title shot. And I haven't forgotten about either of you. You all will have your chance as well.

JH: When?

RN: I'm glad you asked, Jeff. You see, with the way Shaniqua works, I'm certain that she would stop at nothing to make sure that both the Hardy Boyz and the World's Greatest Tag Team were eliminated from a tournament so the Bashams wouldn't have to fight either team. So although you're not in the tag team tournament, I have signed a match for Retribution that will pit the Hardy Boyz against the World's Greatest Tag Team! The winners of that match will receive a World Tag Team Title shot at GCW's October pay-per-view spectacular, Trick or Trouble! Is that okay with you Hardy Boyz?

MH: Yeah, sounds good to me.

RN: World's Greatest Tag Team?

[Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin give the Hardyz a look.]

CH: Yeah, that's all right by us too.

RN: Good. And good luck in your 8-man tag team match tonight.

[The Hardyz and WGTT all give Niemiller a nod before they leave the room. We cut back to the ring as Niemiller goes back to his paperwork.]

Match #5
North American Title Match
Lance Storm (c) (w/ Dawn Marie) vs. "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles
AJ Styles, the first Television champion, had a huge opportunity as he had a North American Title shot against Lance Storm, with the lovely Dawn Marie. Both men are about as crisp as can be in the ring, and what resulted was exactly what was to be expected: a fantastic match. I can safely say that no man had a clear advantage in this match: Lance Storm and AJ Styles are so adept at counter wrestling that neither man had a clear path to a victory. However, the one thing that Lance Storm had over Styles (besides the championship edge) is that he had Dawn Marie in his corner.

Late in the match, Styles dumped Storm to the floor via a huracanrana. Styles got on the ring apron in preparation for an Asai moonsault, but as Styles hit the ropes, Dawn Marie yelled "LOOK OUT!" to which Lance Storm quickly rolled out of the way. Styles hit the floor hard, knocking himself loopy. Storm picked Styles up and threw the groggy Phenomenal One back into the ring. Styles was out of it, which allowed Storm to easily lock on the Maple Leaf. Referee JD Sanders wisely called for the bell when AJ Styles was not responding to him.

Lance Storm defeated AJ Styles when AJ Styles passed out in the Maple Leaf in 0:08:00.
Rating: **** 1/4
(Lance Storm retained the GCW North American Title.)

Another successful title defense for Lance Storm. Storm has shown already that he's not afraid to defend his title against anyone, so far successfully defeating Chris Jericho and AJ Styles, not an easy feat. Dawn Marie could be the best thing that has happened for Lance Storm's career. It looks like we have a long North American Title reign on our hands.

["Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero is seen in his locker room getting his stuff together. Just then, Chavo Guerrero Jr. walks into the room. Eddie immediately gets in a fighting position.]

CGJr.: Whoa, whoa, whoa Eddie. I'm not here to fight you. I'm not here for a retaliation. [Eddie relaxes a bit.] I understand that you're under a lot of stress right now. You have some crazy guy in a mask attacking you left and right. I'd be a little on edge too.

EG: No, correction, Chavito. I've been getting attacked by YOU in a mask!

[Eddie starts to close in on Chavo.]

CGJr.: No, Eddie! You don't understand! It wasn't me... and I got a way to prove it.

EG: Oh you do?

CGJr.: Yeah. See, I went to President Niemiller earlier and I asked him to make a match, and he did. It'll be you and me teaming up against Chris Jericho and Black Tiger! That way, you'll be able to see beyond any doubt that I'm not Black Tiger!

[Eddie stops and ponders this.]

EG: Okay, Chavito. But essa, if you try anything, holmes...

CGJr.: I won't. Trust me, Eddie. Trust me.

[We cut back to the ring.]

* * * * *

Match #6
The World's Greatest Tag Team/The Hardy Boyz vs. The Basham Brothers (World Tag Team champions)/Abyss/Goldust (w/ Shaniqua)
This match was interesting to watch as going into the contest, we didn't know how well the World's Greatest Tag Team and the Hardy Boyz would be able to coexist. Both teams are friends, but the two teams will be on opposing sides of the ring at Retribution with a shot at the World Tag Team Titles on the line. If history has shown us anything, the chance for championship gold can turn anybody against anybody. Fortunately, there was nothing like that in this match as WGTT and the Hardyz worked very well together, something they had to do if they wanted to combat Shaniqua's forces.

Shaniqua's team didn't work together as smoothly as she would like, mostly due to Goldust being a wild card on the team, marching to his own drummer for sure. What they lacked in team cohesiveness, they made up for with the behemoth that is Abyss. We've only seen him a couple of times, but he has shown without doubt that he is someone to be reckoned with. His abilities proved useful to his team when late in the match, Goldust tagged Abyss in. As Goldust jumped to the floor to catch his breath, BOOKER T ran out of the crowd and blasted Goldust with a forearm shot. Goldust wanted no part of Booker T as he ran away like a thief in the night through the crowd as Booker gave chase. This left the Bashams and Abyss at a 4-on-3 disadvantage, but Abyss didn't care as he tore through everyone, finishing Matt Hardy off with the Black Hole Slam.

The Basham Brothers (Doug Basham and Danny Basham), Abyss and Goldust defeated The World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) and The Hardy Boyz (Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy) when Abyss pinned M. Hardy with the Black Hole Slam in 0:11:32.
Rating: ** 3/4

Shaniqua was quite pleased with her men's performance, and with good reason. Abyss is her ace in the hole. With him on her side, the Basham Brothers look like they might have a stranglehold on the World Tag Team Titles for many months to come.

Match #7
"Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero/Chavo Guerrero Jr. vs. "Y2J" Chris Jericho/Black Tiger
Chavo Guerrero Jr. wanted to prove to his uncle, Eddie Guerrero, that he was not the elusive Black Tiger. If he was in the ring against Black Tiger, he obviously couldn't be Black Tiger. Makes a lot of sense, except for the fact that when Chavo was introduced, he was nowhere to be found. This can't help Chavo's case in Eddie's eye, because Eddie then had to wrestle both Jericho and Black Tiger in a handicap match!

Eddie Guerrero was angry, and he took his anger out on Chris Jericho and Black Tiger. Eddie made the mistake of trying to get the mask off of Black Tiger when he had the advantage rather than win the match, and that led to his demise. We don't know much about Black Tiger, but we know he's good, and it's no secret that Chris Jericho is one of the best in the business. Latino Heat brought the fire, but the odds put that flame out as the Walls of Jericho was too much for Guerrero to withstand.

Handicap-Match:
Chris Jericho and Black Tiger defeated Eddie Guerrero when Jericho defeated E. Guerrero when E. Guerrero passed out in the Walls Of Jericho in 0:09:43.
Rating: ***

After the match, Eddie Guerrero was in pain, but more importantly, he was pissed. Where was Chavo Guerrero Jr.? If you ask Latino Heat, he'd tell you under the mask of Black Tiger. Either way, Chavo is going to have some explaining to do.

Match #8
MAIN EVENT
Rey Mysterio Jr./"The Crippler" Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle (World Heavyweight champion)/Steve "Who's Your Daddy?" Bradley (Television champion)
A huge tag team main event with the championship duo of the Sensationals, World Heavyweight champion Kurt Angle and Television champion Steve Bradley, taking on the former World champion "The Crippler" Chris Benoit and the man who scored an upset pin over Kurt Angle last week on Explosion, Rey Mysterio Jr. Angle was anxious to show the world that Mysterio beating him was nothing more than a fluke. As a result, the World champion came out aggressively against his opponents. But if there's one thing we've learned, you're not going to show more aggression and intensity than Chris Benoit. Benoit fired up on Angle and Bradley with his ferocious chops. A couple of dropkicks from Mysterio and the faces had cleared the ring.

As the match got into its groove, we saw a great spectacle of tag team wrestling. Despite not being an every day team, Benoit's and Mysterio's dislike of the Sensationals fueled them to wrestle a great match. Angle and Bradley aren't champions for nothing though, and they too brought their A-game in this one. Near the end of this match, Angle had Mysterio trapped in the ring, nailing him with the Angle Slam. Rather than go for the pin or the Ankle Lock, Angle's huge ego came into play as it has in other matches in his career. The World Heavyweight champion made a slow climb to the top rope and jumped off for a moonsault attempt, and truthfully, it was a fantastic looking moonsault, but if a moonsault doesn't connect, it doesn't matter how good it looked. Mysterio got out of the way of Angle's moonsault. Mysterio wasted no time in taking it to Angle, including hitting a great facebuster before heading to the apron, and springboarding into the ring to hit the Drop of the Dime. Steve Bradley ran in to break up the count, but the Rabid Wolverine cut him off and for the second week in a row, Rey Mysterio Jr. had pinned the World Heavyweight champion!

Rey Mysterio Jr. and Chris Benoit defeated The Sensationals (Kurt Angle and Steve Bradley) when Mysterio Jr. pinned K. Angle after the Drop of the Dime in 0:17:21.
Rating: *** 3/4

Mysterio had done it again! As the crowd in San Diego absolutely went nuts for their hometown hero, RANDY ORTON ran into the ring and surprised Chris Benoit with the R.K.O.! Benoit was completely wiped out by the third-generation superstar. Mysterio went to the aid of Benoit, firing Orton up with right hands and taking him down with a flying leg lariat. Mysterio jumped back on the apron to hit Orton with the Drop of the Dime, but before he could, Kurt Angle smacked him in the back with a chair! Mysterio fell hard to the floor as Angle put the bad mouth on him. As we went off the air, Kurt Angle grabbed the World Heavyweight Title and stood over Mysterio holding it high in the air, saying, "But you'll never have this!"

Be sure to join us next week for Monday Night Explosion! We will see Billy Kidman and Cruiserweight champion Paul London taking on the Italian Stallions with a shot at the World Tag Team Titles up for grabs! Also, two names drawn at random in the first ever Wild Card Match! And finally, twenty men in one ring for a battle royal, with the winner facing Lance Storm for the North American Title at Retribution! You won't want to miss it!
91Posted on 11/03/04 at 20:18:08

Ooh, that was a good show. This is basically the reason why GCW is my favourite fed going right now.

The Wild Card Match is a nice concept, what would have been really interesting (on paper, at least) is several on the same show but doubtless you've got an angle in mind with this one.

OK, Chavo as the Black Tiger is WAYYYYY to obvious, so I'm guessing it's not him. There is one name that's come to my mind, but I'm hoping it's not him as I intend to do a similarish angle with him down the line. Otherwise, I'm drawing a blank still. I'm hoping to see this one revealed soon, but then again the longer you tease it, the longer I'll be paying ultra close attention to the angle.

Whiny Angle is funny.

The battle royal, I've got some theories on a winner here. Probably won't be any of the guys Storm has faced recently, Orton might have been a good pick but he looks destined to feud with Benoit. I'm thinking it'll be one of the two giants of GCW, Lesnar or Abyss. And Kidman and London should win next week I'd have thought, and I can see you going somewhere with Kidman.
91Posted on 11/03/04 at 20:18:37

Oh yeah, and Retribution is one of my PPV names, you git. :P
Snabbit888Posted on 11/03/04 at 22:25:18

I'm sorry.  Forgiveness, please. :(

I used to do Wild Card Matches all the time in my old circuits.  It's one of the few things I legitimately don't book... in full.  I'm using the mystery wrestler option, and based on that, I'll decide who wins.

I'm glad I've finally been able to get something going for London and Kidman.  I think they're both too good to have been wasting away in the position I had them prior.

The pay-per-view starts shaping up next week, and it shall be a glorious event in the history of the world.
