Roderick Strong and Petey Williams when Joey Matthews pinned P. Williams after
a power bomb in 0:12:52.
Rating: *** 1/4

Hot opening match to start off the tag team title tournament. Seems like Steve Corino did a good job picking his two proteges here in SSPW as Shelley and Matthews worked well together in defeating the ad hoc pairing of Strong and Williams.

Speaking of Corino, cameras cut backstage to an irate looking Steve Corino.

Corino: It seems that SSPW officials decided that they wanted ALL available talent to be in this tag team tournament tonight. So guess who got drafted?

He cocks his head to the side and looks at the camera with a quizical look on his face.

Corino: That's right, me, the King of Old School. Now while my two fellow Team Corino members were out there winning their first round match, SSPW officials send a little messenger back here to tell me they've randomly selected my partner. And who got selected? A man I can respect? No. A man I can get along with? No. Christopher -censored- Daniels. That's right, the God of Pro Wrestling and the Fallen Angel are on the same team in this little title tournament.

Corino moves forward so his face covers up the entire shot.

Corino: Daniels, listen to me. You just stay out of my way and let me do what I do best. Or I WILL beat you bloody as well.

[Round 1]:
The Briscoe Bros. (Jay Briscoe and Mark Briscoe) defeated
Steve Corino and Christopher Daniels when J. Briscoe pinned Corino after
the Splash Mountain in 0:19:49.
Rating: ***

Despite not liking each other, Corino and Daniels worked well together early, mainly in an attempt to one up each other. Once thing got settled down however, the Bricoes came back in force, especially Mark who turned Corino into his personal whipping boy. Still, bleeding buckets and taking two Cutthroat Suplexes wasn't enough to put Corino down. Jay finally nailed a Splash Mountain with only seconds remaining in the match to pin Steve Corino and move on to the second round where the Briscoes will meet Team Corino.

Before the next match can begin, Colt Cabana comes to the ring and grabs the mic.

Cabana: Last week was not a good week for the Second City Saints. Vader defeated me in a stretcher match. Something that wouldn't happen again next time he and I face one another. Second, because I was shaken up, I wasn't in the building to help my good buddy CM Punk when Vader and Ki jumped him.

Cabana hangs his head in sadness.

Cabana: And because of that, Punk took a Ki Krusher that damaged his neck so that he can't compete here in SSPW for another month.

Cabana's head comes back up with the most serious look on his face anyone has ever seen.

Cabana: But tonight I get both Ki and Vader in the ring. I'm going to beat them.

[POP!]

Cabana: I'm going to maim them!

[BIG POP!]

Cabana: And I've found someone who hates Low Ki as much as Punk and myself do to help me do it. Vader, Ki...you better bed ready. Colt Cabana is coming for you. And I'm bringing a friend.

[Round 1]:
Strong Style Thugs (Mafia and Homicide) defeated Altar Boy Luke and Chris Sabin
when Homicide pinned Luke after the Running Forearm Smash in 0:24:19.
Rating: ** 1/2

This match was a lot more competative than any thought it would be going in to it. The SST are favorites to win the whole tournament and yet Altar Boy Luke and Chris Sabin managed to take them to the limit. Despite losing for the second week in a row, this is the second time Luke and Sabin have had a match restarted after taking it to the time limit. These two might not be a great tag team yet, but the future is bright for them.

BJ Whitmer and Samoa Joe come to the ring together in a sign of solidarity for their new team. The Prophecy music hits and out comes Jimmy Rave. He stands in front of the curtain for a moment waiting for his partner...MATT STRYKER!

[Round 1]:
BJ Whitmer and Samoa Joe defeated The Prophecy (Jimmy Rave and Matt Stryker)
when Joe pinned Stryker with the Island Driver in 0:21:30.
Rating: *** 3/4

The SSPW competitors just have too much fighting spirit. This is the second match in a row that had to go into overtime to determine a winner in this tag team title tournament. Neither team really worked well together, as neither team has much experience with one another. Still this was as good as expected, with the hard hitting duo of Whitmer and Joe facing the quicker and more technically sound tandem of Rave and Stryker. Daniels' goons couldn't get it done tonight however, even with a few slow counts from the ref.

Cameras cut to backstage where Low Ki and Vader are seen with none other than Julius Smokes.

Ki: Colt Cabana...it matters not who you get to stand at your side tonight. Last week Vader destroyed you. And last week I destroyed CM Punk.

Ki paces some.

Ki: Tonight Colt Cabana, you have to face the two most dangerous fighters in the world today. I hope your mystery partner realizes what he is getting in to, for we will destory him as well.

Smokes leans over and whispers something to Ki that makes him smile. He then faces the camera again.

Ki: My associate here has reminded me of another idea I had. To truly prove who is the stronger team Cabana, I propse a slight change to our match. Let's make this encounter a towel match. Julius Smokes will be in our corner, good luck in finding a poor bastard to throw the towel in for you.

Cameras cut back to the ring where Mark Briscoe is standing in the ring by himself with a mic.

Mark: Just a minute ago in the back I found my brother laying in a bloody mess in our locker room. I'd gone to the bathroom and I come back and there Jay is, unconsious and unable to tell me what kind of low life scum did this to him. But I know it was you Corino. Jay pinned you in the center of the ring so you took him out. You're a jealous bastard Corino, and even without a partner I'm going to beat your goons like we beat you earlier.

Music starts up, but it's not that of Team Corino, it's PETEY WILLIAMS!!! The crowd comes to their feet as the Canadian joins Mark in the ring. After a moment of apprehension the two shake hands!!

[Semi-Finals]:
Team Corino (Alex Shelley and Joey Matthews) defeated
Petey Williams and Mark Briscoe when Joey Matthews pinned P. Williams with the
Inverted DDT in 0:12:21.
Rating: *** 1/2
(Jay Briscoe no-showed.)

Another solid match here in the title tournament. Williams and Briscoe gelled surprisingly well together and managed to make a match out of things with the Team Corino tandem. However it was not to be as Matthews managed to put Williams away as Team Corino moves into the finals.
Interesting to note, this the second time tonight that Matthews has pinned Williams in a tag team match. Another interesting note is that in the first match, Matthews got the win after countering a 'rana with a power bomb while in this match Williams almost pinned Matthews by countering a 'rana with a power bomb.

BJ Whitmer and Samoa Joe vs. The Strong Style Thugs

Mafia takes BJ Whitmer down with a spear.

[Semi-Finals]:
Strong Style Thugs (Mafia and Homicide) defeated BJ Whitmer and Samoa Joe when
Mafia pinned Whitmer with the Burning Hammer in 0:10:14.
Rating: *** 1/2

The most brutal and intense match of the entire tournament was this one. Mafia and Homicide were taking a beating for most of the early parts of the match but managed to stage a come back and Mafia picked up a hard fought win over Whitmer with the Burning Hammer. This means the Strong Style Thugs move on to face Team Corino in the final round. This match has explosive potential knowing 'Cide's past with Steve Corino.

**--INTERMISSION--**

Coming back from intermission, Team Corino is already in the ring with their leader who has a mic. Great.

Corino: First off, Mark Briscoe, I didn't jump your brother. I don't know who did, but it wasn't me. I'm Steve Corino Mark, remember that. I don't jump people from behind like your brother jumped me from behind earlier when I was discussing strategy with Chris Daniels. If I wanted to hurt your brother, I'd do it to his face.

[HEEL HEAT!]

Corino: Eh, piss off.

That doesn't help matters with the crowd.

Corino: Now, coming up next you ignorant wrestling fans will get to see something amazing. My two trainees here, Alex Shelley and Joey Matthews will be taking on that good for nothing Homicide, the -censored-, and his running buddy Mafia. Now, I've already beaten Homicide enough on my own, so I figured it was time to let...

Before he can finish, Homicide hits the ring to a surprisingly decent pop. Mafia is right behind him and things explode between the five men. Somehow in the chaos though, Corino manages to slip out of the ring and the bell rings to start the match.

The Strong Style Thugs vs. Team Corino

Joey Matthews comes over to make it two-on-one.

[Finals]: Match for the vacant Golden Crown Tag Team Titles:
Strong Style Thugs (Mafia and Homicide) defeated
Team Corino (Alex Shelley and Joey Matthews) when Homicide pinned Shelley after
the Running Forearm Smash in 0:20:37.
Rating: ****
(Strong Style Thugs won the Golden Crown Tag Team Titles.)

And in the best match of the tournament, the Strong Style Thugs, the favorites to win the Golden Crown Tag Team Titles do it!! Shelley and Matthews put up a much stiffer fight than almost anyone expected and the Thugs have gone through three grueling match ups before finally attaining the gold. However, they can't rest easy as next week they will face Team Corino A SECOND TIME!!! Can 'Cide and Mafia defeat Shelley and Matthews a second time or will the smaller due get the duke the second time around? Also surprisingly,t he crowd seemed to have an even split with these two teams.

"Coco Cabana" hits the PA system and Colt Cabana comes to the ring, minus his goofy dancing. He hops in the ring and grabs the mic for the second time tonight.

Cabana: First, I'd like to introduce my partner for tonight. A man who hates Low Ki. A man I believe can beat Low Ki. Everyone...JAY LETHAL!!!!

Lethal's music hits and he sprints to the ring and slides in to stand beside Cabana. The crowd gives him a good reaction.

Cabana: Now, Low Ki decided to make tonight's match a towel match. So I found us a towel man too. Here is...

He begins to speak, but "Miseria Cantare" begins playing and the Greensboro crowd goes nuts for CM Punk. He comes out and goes directly to the ring. He's not wearing a neckbrace or anything but every now and then his neck seems to cause him pain as he tenses up.

Punk: Some people just don't learn. Last week Low Ki came out and started running his mouth about how great he was. I came out and told him he sucked.

[POP!]

Punk: Later that night, Ki and I climbed into the squared circle and fought like men. And I beat his -censored- -censored- one...two...three.

[HUGE POP!]

Punk: So while you're straigtedge hero was taking a moment to bask in defeating Mr. I want To Be Bruce Lee, that fat bastard Vader decided to jump me.

[HEEL HEAT!]

Punk: Then Ki took it upon himself to give me a Ki Krusher after the match and nearly break my -censored- neck.

Punk just shakes his head slowly as the crowd continues booing.

Punk: You have a lot to learn Low Ki. When you start -censored-, you better be able to finish it.

He's about to continue, but Low Ki's music hits the loudspeakers as Ki and Vader come to the ring along with Julius Smokes. They climb in and Ki grabs a mic. He goes to get face to face with Punk who just stands there, but Lethal and Cabana get between them.

Ki: I see that for all your tough words you still need your boys to keep you safe Punk.

Punk: I don't need anything. If they weren't between us right now I'd kill you you -censored-, my neck be -censored-.

Low Ki cocks his head to the side and grins.

Ki: Tough words coming from a cripple.

Punk balls up a fist and goes to strike but Cabana stops him. Ki turns to look Lethal in the face.

Ki: So, Jay Lethal...how nice to see you again. It seems last time I saw you, your old hag of a mother was begging me not to kill her poor son. Tonight I'll finish what I started then.

Lethal grabs the mic out of Punk's hand.

Lethal: I'm not afraid of you. Tonight I'm going to beat you.

[BIG POP!]

He puts the mic back in Punk's hands as Ki shrugs.

Ki: You are nothing to me Jay...NOTHING.

Ki turns back to face Punk.

Ki: Go ahead, hide behind your cronies and your injury Punk. We'll meet again if you have the balls, and then I'll end your career as well. And nothing about your straight edge ways will save you, whatever the -censored- that bull -censored- means.

Punk looks him right in the eyes with a dead serious look on his face.

Punk: It means I'm better than you.

[HUGE POP!]

With that, Punk rolls out of the ring as does Smokes and this match is under way.

Rating: ***

Wow, what a surprising ending. Neither team really ever even tried tow in the match, but rather just beat each other bloody. All four ment were battered from the bout, but continued their brawl. Finally SSPW officials hit the ring and had to separate all six men, as Smokes and Punk were getting into it with one another. The scene fades as refs and security struggle to keep the combatants apart.

Signed for Next Week....

What's good is that though you're using a ruleset (according to CotD - I'd have to take his word for it) you've not restricted yourself too much and you're building up a few angles early on and presenting them as much. It's fairly obvious which guys you intend to build the fed around early on but I like them all, so I'm happy.
Captain TagonPosted on 10/23/04 at 21:22:06

Thanks. All my heels are in their little factions, so each faction has some faces to feud with. Things were going great in the tag tourney until the last match when it was heel/heel final but with it being 'Cide vs. team corino, things came together well there.
