GWE Monday Night Rage - January 5, 2004

HugeRockStar760Posted on 10/16/04 at 05:26:22

GWE Monday Night Rage
Date: 1/5/2004
Venue: Von Braun Civic Center
Location: Huntsville, Alabama

[Kurt Angle makes his way down to ring and receives boos and "you suck" chants along the way. Kurt Angle takes a microphone from the ring announcer and enters the ring.]

Kurt Angle: So you people think I suck? How about you look at my contract and then you tell me how much I suck! The GWE made a wise decision by offering me the contract that they did. I put asses in the seats. Unlike people like Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio, Rob Van Dam, and so on, I entertain the masses with my wrestling skills that no one can match. It's true.

[BOO!]

Kurt Angle: But you Alabamans wouldn't know anything about skills. Your reading and writing skills are among the lowest, if not THE lowest in the whole freakin' country! Maybe even the world!

[BOO!!]

Kurt Angle: Enough with making fun of you people. It's too easy. I'm out here tonight because I'm looking for a match. That's right. Your Olympic Hero is going to main event the first edition of Monday Night Rage. Like a lion
looking for a gladiator, I'm looking for an opponent. So I'm throwing out an open challenge to anyone to accept a match with me. I just don't think anyone in the GWE has what it takes to accept my offer.

[After a few moments, the crowd begins to roar as Eddie Guerrero strolls on out to the top of the ramp holding a microphone.]

Eddie Guerrero: Odelay vato! Kurt Angle, it looks like you have yourself an opponent for tonight, esse.

Kurt Angle: Dammit Eddie. You're living in America now, albeit illegally I might add. For god's sake, speak the freakin' language coherently or go back to Mexico where you belong.

[BOO! "Angle Sucks" chants break out.]

Eddie Guerrero: Tonight, holmes, you'll have more to worry about than how I speak english when I kick your sissy red, white, and blue butt all over that ring!

[POP! Eddie Guerrero heads to the back while Kurt Angle contemplates what he had to say.]

The Shooting Star Express (Billy Kidman and Paul London) defeated The World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) when Kidman pinned S. Benjamin with the Shooting Star Press in 0:15:20.
Rating: **
Comments: The first ever GWE match featured one team with tremendous speed and high flying ability in the Shooting Star Express and another with perhaps the best amateur wrestling credentials next to Kurt Angle in the World's Greatest Tag Team. This one featured the high flying duo of Billy Kidman and Paul
London, both masters of the Shooting Star Press (hence their tag team name), get the victory here with that very move.

[John Bradshaw Layfield comes out of his "longhorn" limousine with a bullrope drapped over his shoulders. He enters the ring and motions for a microphone.]

JBL: You wonderful people here in Alabama are in for a treat. You see, most of you people have horrible lives with not much to look forward to. But I'm here to change all of that. At least for the time I'm in this ring. You might have noticed this bullrope I have and wondered why I have it. Seeing that it is the first edition of Monday Night Rage, I've decided to show everyone just what I'm about. I'm a winner. So tonight, I want to show my superiority over the
competition by challenging anyone on the GWE roster to a Texas Bullrope Match. This is my match specialty. I doubt anyone will take me up on my offer.

[JBL gets a surprise as none other than Rob Van Dam answers the challenge and heads to the ring.]

Texas Bullrope Match:
John Bradshaw Layfield defeated Rob Van Dam in 0:14:22.
Rating: *** 1/4
Comments: Although Rob Van Dam is no stranger to hardcore matches, you have to believe he was coming into this match at a disadvantage. JBL's specialty is
the bullrope match and Rob Van Dam had no time to prepare for it. With that said, you would have never known this wasn't RVD's forte as he took the fight
to JBL. However, JBL was able to win this match, but narrowly. Great match and hopefully we'll see a rematch in the near future.

[After the break, the Rising Power tag team of Rhyno and Tajiri are already in the ring awaiting their opponents. Instead of their opponents coming out, it
is none other than Paul Heyman.]

Paul Heyman: Rhyno and Tajiri, you'll get your match in a few moments. Don't you worry. I, Paul Heyman, have a huge announcement to make. As everyone knows, anything I touch turns into gold. Every person or tag team I've managed has gone onto unrivaled success. I'm just that good. Rhyno and Tajiri, you both know what I did for your careers. You owe your livelihoods to me! With my arrival here in GWE, I have brought with me a tag team and a singles wrestler that will all dominate this promotion. In fact, your opponents are my new clients. They are The Bashams!

[The Bashams, wearing black masks, walk out and shake hands with Paul Heyman before walking down to the ring to start the match.]

Rising Power (Rhyno and Tajiri) defeated The Bashams (Doug Basham and Danny Basham) when Rhyno pinned Doug Basham after a falcon arrow in 0:11:44.
Rating: ** 1/4
Comments: Rhyno and Tajiri are no stranger to the genius of Paul Heyman. They were totally unfamiliar with the tag team of The Bashams, as most of us were.   The Bashams were masked and looked like a formidable prescence to be dealt with. In this match, while looking formidable, it didn't translate into a victory as Rhyno and Tajiri were able to come out of the first edition of Rage with a victory. It's a big win for them going into the tag team tournament next week with some momentum.

Booker T defeated Rey Mysterio by countout in 0:02:15.
Rating: ** 1/2
Comments: What a lousy win for Booker T! It appears Paul Heyman's other client is the man known as Heidenreich and he made his prescence felt here. While
Booker T distracted the referee, Heidenreich executed a Power Bomb on Rey Mysterio on the outside of the ring. Rey Mysterio would not able to answer the ten count by the referee, giving Booker T the win.

Post Match:
Heidenreich is not satisfied as he continues to beatdown on Rey Mysterio at the urging of Paul Heyman, executing another Power Bomb in the ring. The beatdown would be short lived as Rob Van Dam makes the save and kicks Heidenreich out of the ring.

Hard Asses (Hardcore Holly and Billy Gunn) defeated Rene Dupree and Kenzo Suzuki when H. Holly pinned R. Dupree with the Alabama Slam in 0:14:11.
Rating: * 3/4
Comments: Billy Gunn and Hardcore Holly win one for America as they beat the foreigners who despise America (one who openly insults its people and another
one that mocks them).

Eddie Guerrero defeated Kurt Angle by disqualification in 0:08:27.
Rating: ** 1/4
Comments: Without a doubt, these two are the foundation that the GWE hopes to build around into the future. This was a great wrestling contest that was
broken up by John Bradshaw Layfield which caused the DQ.

Post Match:
The beatdown of Eddie Guerrero at the hands of Kurt Angle and JBL is broken up when the lights in the arena suddenly switch off. When the lights turn back on a few moments later, the only man standing in the ring is The Undertaker! Kurt Angle and JBL are lying on the mat motionless. The crowd goes crazy for the appearance of the Deadman as the show comes to a close.

I really enjoyed this show.  Could you give a little background?  It seems like it's pretty much the Smackdown roster but with a cosmetic makeover.  Strong Angle stuff though, and the Texas Bullrope Match was fun as well.  I'm looking forward to more of this.

I guess I should've done an introductory post.   :)

I'm using Rick's Old School Rules, but I'm not sure I will always follow them faithfully.  You are right.  The roster consists mostly of Smackdown! superstars except for Rhyno and Tajiri.

The reason I decided to use Smackdown! superstars is because most of the "net marks" criticize the characters so much.  So I decided, why not spite them and push JBL to the moon, make Heidenreich a big part of my shows, and have Hardcore Holly and Billy Gunn on my roster.  I was basically going for something different.  Although, I would never claim it is unique.

You'll also noticed that I used synonyms or something to that effect with my show names (WWE = GWE, Monday Night Rage = Monday Night RAW).  I'm planning on naming my big show "GrappleMania" too.

Also, match writeups aren't my strong suit like it is with you.  I basically just put some notes about how they got to this point, past history, what went down, etc.

As for Kurt Angle, I think he's probably one of the easiest characters to write for.  In fact, I'd say most heels are easy except for those with unique accents.

Also, how do you all copy and paste your results into the TNM forums message box?  I do it directly from my HTML results, but looking at some of the weird line spacing, I'm thinking that isn't the best way.

Anyways, thanks for the comments.  I appreciate it.
Snabbit888Posted on 10/16/04 at 06:22:58

I do all my match writeup stuff in Wordpad so I can add the HTML code as I go, as I post to my website first.  From there, I just copy and paste from the Geocities page, and it usually comes out pretty clean.

Not too bad for a first card. I look forward to seeing more!
meetzorakPosted on 10/16/04 at 17:04:39

i thought it ironic that there was two matches won by the falcon arrow ryhno and hardcore hollys alabama slam i've always likesd the falcon arrow but not alot of people use it.
americamamushiPosted on 10/16/04 at 18:11:30

Good card.  It looks like you'll have a nice tag division too.  I personally like Rhyjiri (as singles more than a tag team, but whataryagonnado, right?)

hee hee hee... the Hard Asses... thats a good name.  Alternatively you could have called them "Hardcore Ass" but thats a WHOLE different gimmick...

The Alabama Slam is that big spinebuster he does, not the falcon's arrow, that was the Hollycaust. ;)

To be honest, I had no clue what a falcon arrow was.  Everytime Rhyno would win a match in TNM with that move I always scratched my head.

The Falcon Arrow is a vertical suplex into a Michinoku driver

No, Goldberg's move was the jackhammer.  A vertical suplex into a powerslam
