[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 7/26/04

Snabbit888Posted on 10/06/04 at 06:56:13

The Lonestar State got its first taste of Global Championship Wrestling as GCW closed out July with Monday Night Explosion, live from Houston, Texas! Eight men would do battle in 8-man tag team action in our main event, with the Sensationals taking on the team of Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Shawn Michaels, and Lance Storm! Also we will see the much anticipated debut of the newest GCW superstar, "The Anarchist" Doug Williams. Let's not waste any time and get right to the action, as Eric Angle looked to keep his undefeated streak in tact against Shannon Moore!

Match #1
Shannon "All That And" Moore vs. Eric Angle
After both Shannon Moore and Eric Angle were introduced, referee JD Sanders was about to call for the bell when BROCK LESNAR'S music hit. The crowd was abuzz as the Monster stormed to ringside, grabbed a microphone from William Buck, and jumped in the ring.

* * * * *

[Brock Lesnar stands in the ring with microphone in hand. Both Shannon Moore and Eric Angle are back in separate corners, as far away from the Monster as they can possibly get.]

BL: I've spent the last week trying to figure out when I'm going to get the shot I deserve at the World Heavyweight Title. All I heard was excuses! Niemiller, you don't want to give me my title shot? That's fine. But until you smarten up and do the right thing, I'm going to rip apart each and every wrestler that stands in my way. So Shannon Moore, Eric Angle. I'm going to give you both two options right now. You can get out of the ring and live, or you can stay in the ring and DIE!

[Lesnar throws the microphone down and gets in a fighting position. Eric Angle takes one look at Lesnar and dashes out of the ring. Lesnar turns to Moore expecting him to do the same thing, but Moore dives at Lesnar and fires a few punches to his head. JD Sanders rings the bell, and we have ourselves a match!]

Match #1
Shannon "All That And" Moore vs. Brock Lesnar
You have to admire Shannon Moore's guts. Moore had to know that if he stayed in the ring with Brock Lesnar, he was going to suffer quite the beating. But Moore is still looking to find his niche in GCW, and you have to be willing to fight when the time comes. Moore came out a house of fire, hitting Lesnar with punches and then firing up on him with a couple of dropkicks, almost knocking the big man off his feet. Moore climbed to the top turnbuckle, feeling that he possibly had a chance to pull off the upset of the year. Moore flew through the air with a flying crossbody, but Lesnar caught him and almost broke Moore in half with a vicious backbreaker. From there, Lesnar brutalized Moore, nailing him with high impact power moves. It became obvious hat Lesnar's intentions weren't to win a match but to prove a point to everyone. After dropping Moore with the F-5, Lesnar went for the cover, but pulled Moore off the mat at the count of 2. Lesnar jumped to the floor and grabbed a steel chair. Lesnar waited until Moore staggered to his feet before waylaying him in the head with it. Sanders had no choice but to call for the bell.

Shannon Moore defeated Brock Lesnar by disqualification in 0:04:02.
Rating: * 1/2

Moore may officially have won the match, but that was the last thing on his mind as blood starting pouring from his head. Lesnar took the end of the chair and placed it on Moore's throat and began crushing Moore's larynx! Blood started pouring out even faster as a crazed Lesnar drove the chair down as hard as he could. The GCW Official Brigade sprinted out and tried to coax Lesnar to stop, but Lesnar refused. Eventually, it took five of the officials to literally pull Lesnar off of Moore. The medical staff rushed out and tended to Shannon Moore who looked to be in bad shape. Brock Lesnar was scary before, but he is absolutely enraged now. I have a bad feeling that Shannon Moore won't be the first victim.

Match #2
The Italian Stallions vs. Low-Ki/"Primetime" Elix Skipper (w/ Daffney)
Tag team action was next as the Italian Stallions, who made a great debut last week by defeating the former World Tag Team champion World's Greatest Tag Team, took on Low-Ki and "Primetime" Elix Skipper of Triple X. It didn't take long for Low-Ki's and Skipper's stablemate "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels, along with his protege Sean O'Haire to come out to get a closer look at this match. This week gave us a second good look at Chuck Palumbo and Mark Jindrak, and they're an interesting team to say the least. They both appear to have vastly different personalities, but once that bell rings, they work wonderfully together.

It was obvious that Low-Ki and Elix Skipper were distracted by Daniels and O'Haire at ringside, and the opportunistic Chuck Palumbo took advantage of this, catching Low-Ki with one of the sickest looking spinebusters I have ever seen. Three seconds later, and the Italian Stallions were victorious.

The Italian Stallions (Chuck Palumbo and Mark Jindrak) defeated Triple X (Elix Skipper and Low-Ki) when C. Palumbo pinned Low-Ki after a spinebuster slam in 0:05:34.
Rating: ** 1/4

As Palumbo and Jindrak left the ring celebrating their victory, Christopher Daniels and Sean O'Haire made their way into the ring. Low-Ki and Elix Skipper tried talking to Daniels, but Daniels wasn't hearing it. During this, O'Haire snuck behind Low-Ki and Skipper, and when Daniels gave him the nod, the 280-pounder blasted them with a double clothesline. Daniels just smiled as O'Haire systematically dismantled his former partners. The beating ended with O'Haire hitting Skipper and then Low-Ki with the Prophecy. It looks as though what has been hinted at for weeks finally came to fruition tonight: Triple X is no more.

[Goldust is sitting in his locker room at a table. In his right hand he is holding a Booker T action figure. He begins talking in a fake Booker T voice as he plays with the toy.]

G: Now can you dig that, sucka!?

[Goldust reaches underneath the table and pulls out a Goldust action figure... wearing a wedding dress. Wowzers.]

G: "Oh, hi there Booker T. How are you?" "Oh, I'm doing fine, Goldust. You look wonderful in that dress. What's the occasion, sucka?" "It's for our wedding, silly." "Oh, is that today? I completely forgot!"

[Just then, Booker T enters the room. Goldust is startled and tries to hide the action figures behind his back, but to no avail.]

BT: What the hell is going on in here, man!?

G: Nothing... I was just... er... I mean... oh boy...

BT: You know what? Forget it. This kinda stuff has gotta stop, man. You've cost me two matches now with your gifts and your apologies. Just leave me the hell alone!

G: But Booker...

BT: No but's, Goldust! I can't be worrying about you gettin' involved in my matches because you have some sick obsession with me!

G: But Booker...

BT: What the hell is it, sucka!?

G: We have a match tonight!

[Goldust shies away as if he thinks Booker is going to hit him.

BT: We have a what tonight?

G: Um... we have a match. A tag match, in fact.

BT: Tell me you did not just say that.

G: Well, I could tell you that, but I'd be a liar. And nobody likes a liar, Booker!

BT: We're on different teams though, right?

G: Nope! It's Booker T and Goldust, together at last! And to make it even better, Booker, it's us against the Basham Brothers for the World Tag team Titles!

BT: How the hell did you get us a title shot?

G: I just told President Niemiller about how good of friends we are and...

BT: You have got to be kiddin' me.

G: Do I look like a kidder to you?

BT: Fine. I'll wrestle the match, but only because I would love to be a World Tag team champion. But we're playin' by my rules, got it?

G: Oh, yes, of course, Booker.

BT: Now can you dig that... SUCKA!?

[Booker leaves the room.]

G: Oh, you know I can dig that, Booker. [Goldust does his deep inhale before we cut to the ring.]

Match #3
"The Anarchist" Doug Williams (DEBUT !!!) vs. Shark Boy
"The Anarchist" Doug Williams comes into Global Championship Wrestling amidst a lot of hype. Considered one of the finest athletes from Great Britain, Williams certainly has all the tools, but you can have all the tools and all the hype in the world. You still have to get it done in the ring. Williams first opponent would be Shark Boy, and Shark Boy was game. He was ready for a match, but Williams is an impressive specimen. Williams was able to use his technical expertise to pick Shark Boy apart, and it didn't take long before Williams hit his ultra-impressive rolling German suplex he calls the Chaos Theory to pick up an easy victory.

Doug Williams pinned Shark Boy with the Chaos Theory in 0:06:41.
Rating: **

So far, so good for Doug Williams. Williams wasn't done yet though, as he grabbed a microphone from ringside.

* * * * *

[As Shark Boy rolls out of the ring, Doug Williams has the microphone in hand.]

DW: Is this the best that Global Championship Wrestling has to offer? Some ridiculous goof dressed as a shark? If this is the best you have to offer, I will easily dispose of everyone who is put in front of me. I'm tired of seeing what has happened to pure wrestling. Everybody is a crazy character or has some outlandish gimmick. Doug Williams doesn't need a gimmick. All I need is an opponent. I'm going to bring pure wrestling back to this country. It's all just a part of the Chaos Theory.

[Williams throws the microphone down as he receives some boos from the crowd. All in all, a very impressive debut for the Anarchist.]

Match #4
Paul London vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr.
There's a lot of competition in recent weeks in the Cruiserweight division, especially now with the announcement that Cruiserweight champion Rey Mysterio Jr. will get to pick the man who faces Low-Ki next week on Explosion for the number-one contendership. As a result, Paul London and Chavo Guerrero Jr. came out with guns a-blazing. London has been drawing comparisons in GCW to a young Shawn Michaels. Boatloads of natural talent and a never-say-die attitude will take you a long way, and that's exactly what London has. Chavo Guerrero is a veteran though, and knows many of the tricks of the trade, using many of them to get the edge over London.

But like I said before, Paul London simply refuses to stay down, kicking out of every attempt Chavo made to keep him down. Chavo was getting noticeably frustrated, getting into the face of referee Petey Pluck on more than one occasion complaining about a slow count. He complained one two many times though, as after the last one, it gave London the opportunity to spring out of nowhere with a jumping enziguiri. Chavo fell in a heap on the mat, and Paul London jumped all over it, climbing to the top and hitting his picture perfect shooting star press he calls the London Calling. One-two-three.

Paul London pinned Chavo Guerrero Jr. with the London Calling in 0:07:51.
Rating: ** 3/4

Paul London continues his recent winning ways with a big victory over Chavo Guerrero Jr. The fans are starting to take notice of Paul London, and they're not the only ones, as Cruiserweight champion Rey Mysterio Jr. came down to the ring and shook London's hand before grabbing the microphone from ringside.

* * * * *

[Rey Mysterio Jr. stands in the ring with Paul London.]

RMJr.: Paul London, congratulations on your win here tonight. I've wrestled Chavo Guerrero Jr. many times in the past, and I know he's not an easy man to beat.

PL: Thanks a lot, Rey. I really appreciate it.

RMJr.: You might appreciate this a little more. I've been watching your performances here in recent weeks, and you've impressed me a lot. That's why I've chosen you, Paul London, to face Low-Ki next week in the number-one contender match for a chance to wrestle for the Cruiserweight Title at Summer Sizzler.

[A decent crowd pop for this. The fans are starting to come around, but aren't totally sold on Paul London yet. London, however, is extremely happy.]

PL: You're right, I do appreciate that, Rey.

RMJr.: I thought that you might. Good luck next week.

[Rey Mysterio's music starts to a huge pop. Cut to commercial after a handshake between Mysterio and London.]

Match #5
World Tag Team Title Match
The Basham Brothers (c) (w/ Shaniqua) vs. Booker T/Goldust
Booker T was not thrilled to be teaming with Goldust tonight, but like all wrestlers, he knows that title shots can sometimes be few and far between, so when you have a chance, you have to take it. One would think that the defending World Tag Team champions would have the clear advantage in a match like this, but surprisingly, Booker T and Goldust showed excellent teamwork. Booker was able to put all of his recent troubles with Goldust aside for the sake of trying to capture his first gold in Global Championship Wrestling. And how sweet it would have been for Booker T to capture the World Tag Team Titles in his hometown of Houston, Texas.

Despite their surprising ability to work together, Booker and Goldust couldn't seem to find that one big move to put the Basham Brothers away. Doug and Danny Basham are the premier in tag team wrestling right now, and they showed it tonight. Once they got Goldust in the ring, they started picking him apart, cutting off the ring, and double teaming the Bizarre One. To Goldust's credit, he kept fighting back, surviving the onslaught from the Bashams and eventually being able to make the desperation tag to Booker T after taking Danny and Doug down with a double clothesline.

Booker T came in and looked unstoppable, taking it straight to both the World Tag Team champions. After rocking both Bashams with forearms and punches, Booker caught Danny Basham with a spinebuster. Booker T got to his feet via the Spinaroonie, but he was flattened when Goldust, his own partner, nailed him with a low blow! The crowd couldn't believe it as Goldust had just turned on Booker T! This had all been a setup. The Bashams grabbed Booker T and took him down with the Ball and Gag Bomb, and as you would expect, made this title defense a successful one.

The Basham Brothers (Doug Basham and Danny Basham) defeated Booker T and Goldust when Doug Basham pinned Booker after the Ball And Gag Bomb in 0:13:47.
Rating: **** 1/4
(The Basham Brothers retained the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

Goldust jumped back in the ring and hit Booker T with a flurry of right hands. Goldust picked Booker T up to his feet and dropped him with the Shock Treatment. Goldust wasn't finished yet though, as the enraged Golden One set Booker in the corner and shattered his dreams with the Golden Globes Kick. The Houston fans booed Goldust relentlessly for his change of heart here. We hope to find out soon why Goldust did what he did tonight, but regardless, I believe Goldust's obsession with Booker T has shifted gears.

[We are backstage with Mario Riviera. As the World Tag Team champion Basham Brothers and Shaniqua come through the curtain, Riviera stops them.]

MR: Shaniqua, Shaniqua! Congratulations to the Basham Brothers for a successful title defense, but does it worry you that they had so much trouble with a team that were teaming for the first time?

S: Listen, bitch! All that matters is that the Bashams are still the World Tag Team champions! Got it?

MR: Yes, but it looked as if the Bashams were still a bit rattled from nearly losing the tag titles last week to the Hardy Boyz. Is there any truth to this?

[Shaniqua and the Bashams all give Riviera a cold stare.]

S: Are you implying that we're worried about the Hardy Boyz? The Hardy Boyz are old news. The Bashams are the tag team of the future. Last week we were simply caught off-guard. It won't happen again.

MR: Well, that may be so, but the talk in the locker room is that the Hardy Boyz are looking for a rematch. And the consensus is that they deserve it, considering they were just an eyelash away from winning the titles last week...

[Shaniqua grabs Riviera by the shirt.]

S: They were NOT close to winning the titles, bitch! Do you think that we can't beat the Hardyz? Is that what you think? ANSWER ME, BITCH!

MR: Er... um...

S: They want their rematch? Fine. They got their rematch at Summer Sizzler! And if they think they're gonna take these titles? They're in for a BIG SURPRISE.

[Shaniqua pushes Riviera back and walks off. As Danny and Doug Basham walk past him, they hit Riviera with their shoulders.]

Match #6
"The Innovator of Violence" Tommy Dreamer vs. Charlie Haas
Charlie Haas is a former two-time World Tag Team champion, but his partnership with Shelton Benjamin looks to have finally imploded last week after he walked out on his partner during a match. Haas was in singles competition this week, and the Houston fans wanted nothing more than for "The Innovator of Violence" Tommy Dreamer to put Haas in his place. Right before the match started, the music of "The Anarchist" Doug Williams played and the newcomer joined Joey O'Donnell and Brian Wagner at the broadcast position for some color commentary.

Haas is one of the most technically sound wrestlers to come through the pipes in a long time. He can wrestle on the mat with the best of them, and he used those superior mat skills tonight to counter Dreamer's brawling style. Doug Williams continually commented on what a disgrace Tommy Dreamer was, how he was nothing more than a garbage wrestler, and how he could never hold a candle to Doug Williams. When Dreamer got the advantage on Haas late after hitting a piledriver, Williams left the broadcast position and started berating Dreamer. Williams went as far as to jump up on the ring apron, which prompted Dreamer to waffle him with a right hand. However, when Dreamer turned around, he turned right into a power bomb from Charlie Haas, and it knocked the air out of him enough to get the pinfall victory.

Charlie Haas pinned Tommy Dreamer after a power bomb in 0:05:32.
Rating: ** 1/2

Doug Williams was quite proud of himself for what he did as he headed to the back. When Dreamer came to, he ran to the back, surely looking for the Anarchist. As the fans booed Charlie Haas for celebrating his cheap victory, they began to cheer when Haas' former partner SHELTON BENJAMIN came down to the ring. Haas backed up and got in fight position, but he soon relaxed a bit when he saw Benjamin reach for a microphone instead.

* * * * *

[Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas, the former World's Greatest Tag Team, stand face-to-face as the crowd is stirring. Rather than coming to blows, Benjamin speaks.]

SB: So this is how's it's gonna be, eh, Charlie? All of our history, all of the long late-night car rides from city to city, all of the training, all of that down the tubes, just like that? I thought we were in this together, Charlie.

CH: You thought what? You thought WHAT! Together, Shelton? Instead of coming out here and putting the magnifying glass on me, maybe you should take a look at yourself.

SB: What are you talking about?

CH: You know exactly what I'm talking about. While I was busy busting my butt trying to keep this team together, you were too busy messing around with that whore Shaniqua! You put a woman, and an ugly woman at that, before the team!

SB: What you think Shaniqua looks like doesn't matter, and I made a mistake. I have told you time and time again that I was sorry!

CH: Sorry doesn't put the World Tag Team Titles back around our waists, now does it, Shelton!? I tried to tell you you couldn't trust her, but did you listen to me? No! Of course you didn't. Because that would require you getting your head out of your ass! That would require you not being SELFISH! And we can't have that! Because then, you wouldn't be the center of attention! Because who would want to be one half of the World Tag Team champions when you could be drooling over some freaky, ugly WHORE!?

Shelton Benjamin has heard enough as he slaps Charlie Haas across the face. The crowd ooh's as Haas turns back and slaps Benjamin. After a brief staredown, Benjamin tackles Haas and the fight is on! Despite both of their amateur backgrounds, this was nothing more than a brawl. The fight was quickly broken up by the GCW Official Brigade, but it took a lot of officials to keep Benjamin and Haas away from each other. Eventually, everyone peeled off to the back.]

Match #7
Television Title Match
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles (c) vs. "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown
Last week it was Monty Brown saving AJ Styles from a double team beating at the hands of Sean O'Haire and Steve Bradley. This week, it was Brown trying to take the Television Title from the Phenomenal One. Styles' ribs are still bothering him a bit from being put through a table by Steve Bradley at Chaos Reigns, and Brown wisely took advantage of that. Brown is one of the strongest men in all of wrestling, and he used that power to soften Styles up.

It looked like we were on our way to a new Television champion when Brown went for the Pounce, but Styles hooked the ropes and slid to the outside. Brown knew he couldn't win the title with Styles on the floor, so he went out to retrieve him. While on the floor, Styles started to walk up the ramp to catch a little breather, but he was nailed from behind by STEVE BRADLEY! Bradley started punching away at Styles, but Monty Brown wasn't going to stand for this. Not wanting his title shot to slip away, Brown ran up the ramp and plastered Bradley with a huge shoulderblock. Brown tried to bring Styles back to the ring, but he was nailed from behind by SEAN O'HAIRE. O'Haire picked Brown up on his shoulder and dropped him throat first on guardrail. Referee Antonio Santangelo had no choice but to declare this one a no contest.

Monty Brown and AJ Styles battled to a no contest in 0:06:25.
Rating: ***
(AJ Styles retained the GCW Television Title.)

The sneak attack of Steve Bradley and Sean O'Haire was enough for them to get the better of AJ Styles and Monty Brown. While O'Haire pounded on Brown and Styles, Bradley pulled out a table from under the ring. Bradley grabbed Styles and smashed his head on the ringsteps before laying him on the table. O'Haire picked Brown up for a power bomb and he and Bradley spike power bombed Brown on top of Styles, right through the table! Styles and Brown were left in a heap of broken wood as both Bradley and O'Haire smiled sickly. We've since learned that next week on Explosion, Styles and Brown will team up to face Bradley and O'Haire in a tag team match.

Match #8
MAIN EVENT
"The Crippler" Chris Benoit/"Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero/"The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels/Lance Storm (w/ Dawn Marie) vs. The Sensationals (World Heavyweight champion Kurt Angle/North American champion Randy Orton/"Y2J" Chris Jericho/Steve "Who's Your Daddy?" Bradley)
With this many personalities together in one match, we knew it had the potential to explode, and boy did this one ever boil over! We learned that prior to this match that Chris Benoit will indeed receive his World Heavyweight Title rematch at Summer Sizzler against Kurt Angle, and that it will be a Submission Match! That has to play into his favor as he knows he can make Kurt Angle tap out; Angle can't say the same about Benoit. Not only that, but we now know that Lance Storm will get one more shot at Randy Orton and the North American Title, also at Summer Sizzler. With these two knowing they have title matches coming up, they certainly wanted to make a good impression and they both pumped up their games for this one.

One would think that the Sensationals would have the advantage over their counterparts in this one due to their experience advantage as a team, but that was not the case. The Benoit/Guerrero/Michaels/Storm faction must have talked a lot of strategy this week as they came in with a solid gameplan and executed it perfectly. But the Sensationals, namely Chris Jericho, still had a plan of their own as well. In the latter stages of the match, Jericho waved to the back and out came Black Tiger, who has been a thorn in the side of Eddie Guerrero in recent weeks. Guerrero saw Black Tiger and wasted no time sprinting up the ramp and taking him down with a spear tackle. Latino Heat went straight for Black Tiger's mask, trying to see who it was. Jericho saw this and ran up the ramp to intervene, which prompted Shawn Michaels to join the fray to help his friend! Michaels, Jericho, Guerrero, and Black Tiger all brawled to the back, which made it 3-on-2 in the ring. Benoit and Storm were game though, not backing down in the least. However, the numbers got to them as it looked like Orton was about to put Benoit away with the R.K.O., but he was distracted when AJ STYLES ran down and pulled Steve Bradley off the apron, causing him to hit his face on the ring apron! During this chaos, Benoit got behind Orton and locked him in the Crippler Crossface. Kurt Angle jumped in to break it up, but he was cut off by a superkick from Lance Storm. Storm then locked Angle in the Maple Leaf as the crowd was on its feet cheering madly. Orton and Angle tried to fight out of the holds, but they both had no choice but to tape out, and this one was over!

Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Lance Storm and Shawn Michaels defeated The Sensationals (Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Randy Orton and Steve Bradley) when Benoit made R. Orton submit to the Crippler Crossface in 0:13:38.
Rating: *** 3/4

A huge victory here as both Orton and Angle tapped out. Could this be a sign of things to come at Summer Sizzler?

Speaking of Summer Sizzler, Phoenix, Arizona will play host to GCW as pay-per-view action hits the desert on August 15, 2004! Five big matches were announced tonight, and they are as follows:

World Heavyweight Title Submission Match - Kurt Angle (c) vs. "The Crippler" Chris Benoit

North American Title Match - Randy Orton (c) vs. Lance Storm

World Tag Team Title Match - The Basham Brothers (c) vs. The Hardy Boyz

"The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels/"Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero vs. "Y2J" Chris Jericho/Black Tiger

Battle of the World's Greatest Tag Team - Shelton Benjamin vs. Charlie Haas

More matches will be added as they are announced. It's already shaping up to be a wonderful event that you won't want to miss.
Critic of the DawnPosted on 10/06/04 at 07:40:52

It's always impressive to see how much effort you clearly put into these cards, and once again I have to commend you for it, because it clearly shows.

I like the bit at the beginning with Eric Angle fleeing to the back rather than risking his undefeated streak against Brock Lesnar.  Very heelish.

The Italian Stallions get another win, albeit with an assist from Daniels and O'Haire.  Decent match, but Palumbo and Jindrak really haven't had a chance to get their characters over much yet.  Still looking forward to seeing how you run with it. ;)

Bwahahaha!  The Goldust segment was excellent as always.  I really enjoy the Goldust character, and was very upset when they gave him Tourett's, then consequently dropped him because people stopped caring when he became nothing but a cheap joke.  The Bizzare One definately makes a hell of a heel.

Doug Williams!  Woo!  And... he squashes Shark Boy.  Not the best way to make an impact, but everyone needs to debut somehow, and it might as well be against a lower carder.  I do like the direction you're taking his character in, though.  It's very reminiscent of a developing Hardcore vs. Pure Wrestling feud in ROH between Foley and Steamboat.

Paul London is rising up the cruiserweight ranks!  Good for him, I've always enjoyed his work.

I've said it before, but I really like what you've done with Shaniqua and the Basham Brothers in GCW.  The gimmick had potential, but WWE never actually gave it any thought aside from "They're the bondage tag team!"  You've fleshed that out a bit, which is very cool.

Styles retains.  Of course.  You're not going to drop his title any time soon, because you like having the longest reigning champion on the boards. ;D

Finally, that was a hell of a main event.  Storm and Benoit make Orton and Angle tap out.  I smell a tag team match next week...

All around great show.  Keep up the good work.

Eric "Critic of the Dawn"
Snabbit888Posted on 10/06/04 at 07:46:03

Ha, yes.  I make all my booking decisions based on having the longest reigning board champion.  AJ Styles will be the TV champ for 13 years!

The finish for the main event I thought was awesome, mostly because it sort of wrote itself.  I got caught up writing it and the opportunity to do that just hit.
91Posted on 10/06/04 at 19:53:14

I knew I shouldn't have said that you had the longest reigning champion. Besides, I thought you said he would be champ six years. Maybe someone should start doing bi-annually cards to overtake Styles straight away...

The main event outcome was ironic as Benoit and Storm made the others opponent for Summer Sizzler tapped, as opposed to them making their own opponent submit. At this early stage, I'm thinking Angle is likely to retain, but ask me again after the August ninth card.

Speaking of Angle and ironic, Eric would have kept his unbeaten run if he'd stayed by the looks of things, even if his appendix would have ended up lodged in his throat.

Goldust, naturally, continues to rule. It's easy enough to explain away the heel turn, but if Goldust faces Booker, knocks him out, and wins, he could do anything he wanted to him...

So far so good for Doug Williams, he's got a direction early on at least so I'm expecting great things. The Italian Stallions are also early eye catchers, though they need a direction too before they really turn heads.

Finally, I've got several theories over the mysterious identity of the Black Tiger, but I'll save them for when the time is right...
