[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 7/19/04

Snabbit888Posted on 09/28/04 at 01:30:25

What a night we had on pay-per-view at Chaos Reigns. Two new champions were crowned, capped off by Kurt Angle becoming the new World Heavyweight champion. We knew that Kurt Angle was in the house here in Tupelo, Mississippi for Monday Night Explosion, and we knew that he would have a lot to say. Before the show even began, it was announced that on tonight's broadcast, AJ Styles would be defending the Television Title against the winner of the Hardcore Invitational, Sean O'Haire! Also, we would see a new tag team debut as Chuck Palumbo and Mark Jindrak, collectively the Italian Stallions, would take on the former World Tag Team champions, the World's Greatest Tag Team! And in our main event, recently dethroned World Heavyweight champion "The Crippler" Chris Benoit would take on "Y2J" Chris Jericho! But first, we were all to be greeted by the new World Heavyweight champion.

* * * * *

[After the opening credits and pyro goes off for Explosion, the crowd explodes into boos as "Medal" plays over the sound system. Out from the back comes new World Heavyweight champion Kurt Angle, and he is all smiles as one would expect. Angle stops at the top of the ramp as the crowd is chanting "YOU SUCK!" in time with Angle's music. Angle's introduction pyro goes off before he heads to the ring. Angle gets in and does the patented Angle spin, allowing everyone to see him with the World Heavyweight Title around his waist. As the music dies down, Angle has a microphone in hand.]

KA: Let the celebration begin!

[Red, white, and blue confetti falls from the ceiling, causing the crowd to boo anymore.]

KA: I am living proof that through hardwork, dedication, and the three I's, you can achieve anything! A lot of folks didn't have a lot of faith in me. A lot of people didn't believe that in 1996 I could win the gold medal in the Olympic Games. But I did win the gold medal with a broken freakin' neck! Nobody thought I could win the World Heavyweight Title last night at Chaos Reigns against three of the top wrestlers in the business. And yet here I stand as YOUR World Heavyweight champion! Oh it's true!

[The crowd boos. The louder they boo, the more Angle seems to enjoy it.]

KA: That's right. Booker T, Brock Lesnar, Chris Benoit. Undoubtedly three of the best wrestlers in the world today. And not only did I beat them, but I eliminated all three of them on the way to winning the World Heavyweight Title, fair and square! [Crowd boos this blatantly untrue statement] And I know I am only the second man to hold this title, but I guarantee that I will defend this championship proudly all over this country that I so willingly represent. I'll defend this title in New York! In Chicago! In Detroit! In Los Angeles! In Tupelo!

[The crowd pops loudly for the thought of a World Heavyweight Title defense tonight.]

KA: Well, Tupelo doesn't exactly count. If I'm going to defend my World Title, I'm going to do it in a place that will truly appreciate it, unlike you neanderthals, who don't understand the magnitude of my greatness! [Crowd turns on Angle rather quickly after these comments.]

KA: But I assure you, that I will be the best World Heavyweight champion in the history of this business! It's true, it's damn...

["Whatever" by Our Lady Peace cuts the champion off, and the roof blows off the building. Out from the back comes the former World Heavyweight champion "The Crippler" Chris Benoit. Angle is not at all pleased that the former champion is making his presence known. Benoit grabs a mic from ringside and gets in the ring with Angle.]

CB: Now settle down, Kurt. I'm not out here to fight you. I'm here to congratulate you. You're right. You did wrestle a helluva match last night. But you come out here claiming that you'll be a fighting champion. That you'll defend that title all over the country. Well you said you wouldn't defend here in Tupelo...

[The crowd boos Angle loudly.]

CB: ...but how about later? Now it's not a secret that in this sport that when a champion loses a title, he has a rematch clause he can exercise. And there's something that doesn't sit well with me about the way you beat me, Kurt. At Super Cade, I made you TAP, Kurt. Last night, you beat me with a cheap roll-up and your feet on the ropes. And you think that's going to make you a great champion? You want to be the greatest champion of all time? Let's see if you can beat me legitimately. I suggest that at Summer Sizzler, it's Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle for the World Heavyweight Title one more time. The catch is, the only way you can win is by submission. I've made you tap. And I don't think you can make me do the same. If you think otherwise, why don't you PROVE ME WRONG!?

KA: Is this supposed to be impressive, Chris? You trying to be cute? I have nothing to prove to you, Benoit. I'm the World Heavyweight champion now, not you. And I should give you a title shot because you made me tap once on a fluke? Flukes don't warrant rematches, Benoit.

CB: Maybe they don't, Kurt. But this does.

[Benoit throws down the microphone and grabs a hold of Angle's arm and head. Angle tries to fight him off, but the element of surprise allows Benoit to get Angle in the Crippler Crossface. Angle tries to fight out of it, but he can't and he starts tapping as the crowd goes nuts. After seeing Angle tap, Benoit releases the hold and leaves the ring as his music fires back up. Angle holds his shoulder as Benoit goes backward up the ramp giving him his toothless grin. Cut to commercial.]

Match #1
Television Title Match
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles (c) vs. Sean O'Haire (w/ Daffney)
Our opening contest of the evening saw AJ Styles defend the Television Title against the man who won the Hardcore Invitational in impressive fashion last night, Sean O'Haire. Styles was at a huge disadvantage right from the beginning in this one, having his ribs heavily taped after Steve Bradley put him through a table last night. Styles obviously wasn't 100%, and against a unrelenting opponent like O'Haire, anything less than 100% is an uphill struggle. This match was almost completely dominated by O'Haire. Styles tried to be competitive, but with the condition of his ribs, it was not working well. After O'Haire maliciously targeted the champion's injured torso, he had Styles up on the top turnbuckle and set up for a superplex. Styles blocked it and managed to knock O'Haire off the turnbuckle. As 'Haire got back up, in a desperation move, Styles caught O'Haire with a flying sunset flip and in what has to be considered an upset given his physical state, Styles retained the Television Title.

AJ Styles pinned Sean O'Haire after a flying sunset flip in 0:05:23.
Rating: ** 3/4
(AJ Styles retained the GCW Television Title.)

O'Haire couldn't believe it as the injured Styles quickly got out of the ring and grabbed his title, continuing his awesome winning streak. As Styles started up the ramp though, he was nailed from behind with a huge clothesline by STEVE BRADLEY, who showed that he is not done with the Phenomenal One yet. Bradley grabbed Styles and tossed him back into the ring where an angry Sean O'Haire waited. Bradley and O'Haire double-teamed Styles, each taking turns kicking him in the ribs. Styles hasn't exactly been the nicest guy in the world, but he certainly didn't deserve this. Thankfully, MONTY BROWN ran in and interjected. Bradley saw Brown coming and tried to hit him with a clothesline, but Brown ducked and took Bradley out with a belly-to-belly suplex. O'Haire caught Brown with a kick to the midsection and tossed him into the ropes. O'Haire went for a clothesline of his own, but Brown ducked, hit the far ropes, and leveled O'Haire with the POOOOOOOOOUNCE! O'Haire retreated out of the ring as a wound up Monty Brown soaked in the cheers of the crowd. As Styles got back up, he and Brown exchanged a look before Styles exited the ring.

Match #2
Paul London vs. Teddy Hart
Teddy Hart was unsuccessful in his bid to win the Cruiserweight Title last night, but he was looking to stay in the title hunt tonight against Paul London. London has been mostly a tag team wrestler in Global Championship Wrestling, but is slowly building some singles success, and a solid victory over Hart would shoot him up the ranks in the Cruiserweight division. This match was a perfect example of what the cruiserweights can bring to a show if they are given a chance to shine. Here in Global Championship Wrestling, you're not guaranteed a spot. You'll be given an opportunity, but you have to take advantage of it, and that's exactly what these two did. That's what you have to love about these young guys; they give it their all every time they're out there.

After several minutes of great fast action, something had to give, and it did give after London hit Hart with a nasty facebuster. London, despite his relative inexperience, knew that he may not have had a big enough window of opportunity to hit the London Calling, so he hit Hart with a standing moonsault in hopes it would be enough to keep Hart down. In this instance, it was.

Paul London pinned Teddy Hart after a standing moonsault in 0:09:14.
Rating: **** 1/4

This was a huge win for Paul London. By defeating Teddy Hart, London sets himself up for future consideration for Cruiserweight Title shots. Teddy Hart isn't completely out of the hunt though. This was a setback, yes, but Hart has all the tools to compete with anyone.

* * * * *

[The camera cuts backstage where we see Shawn Michaels standing by. We hear head announcer Joey O'Donnell talking to him from the booth.]

JO: Shawn Michaels, you asked for this time in regards to what happened last night at Chaos Reigns.

HBK: Yes I did, Joey. Why I need this time is because I'm going to issue a challenge. Eddie Guerrero, we've gone up and down, up and done since we both came to Global Championship Wrestling. Last night we were made fools of by Chris Jericho and this Black Tiger guy. I don't know what they're agenda is on this, but I can guarantee that they haven't heard the last from us. But Eddie, I may have gotten the win last night over you, but I'm not happy with how it ended. I don't want to beat you on some cheap interference. I still consider us friends, Eddie, but we have some problems to work out. I'm willing to fight side-by-side with you against Jericho and to find out who this Black Tiger is, but if we don't work out our issues, we're dead in the water. So what do you say? Shawn Michaels vs. Eddie Guerrero, tonight here on Explosion!? [The crowd pops huge.]

HBK: We need to see who the best man is, fair and square. And after that, Eddie, it'll Latino Heat and H-B-K riding together in the saddle again!

[Cut back to the ring.]

Match #3
The World's Greatest Tag Team vs. The Italian Stallions (DEBUT!!!)
We had the debut of a brand new tag team next as the Italian Stallions, Chuck Palumbo and "The Reflection of Perfection" Mark Jindrak, took on the team that seems to be imploding, the former World Tag Team champions, the World's Greatest Tag Team. The Stallions are an odd duo to be sure. Palumbo is a tough, rugged Italian and is proud of it, while Jindrak seems to be the opposite, coming down to the ring holding a mirror who's name I've been told is "Abicus" and wearing a long robe he calls the "Cape of Conceit." How these two even got to be a team is beyond me, but truth be told, they worked very well together. It also helped their case that Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas couldn't seem to get along. Early on they made very hard tags and were basically trying to show the other one up. Because of the miscommunication from the WGTT, Benjamin ended up getting worked over in the ring, which wasn't good for him because both Palumbo and Jindrak are big strong grapplers. They hit Benjamin with quick successions of power moves, but weren't able to get the pinfall. Benjamin tried to fight back on Jindrak, going for a boot to the midsection, but the Reflection of Perfection caught his leg. Jindrak spun Benjamin's leg out, but Benjamin followed through and caught Jindrak with a huge spin kick!

Benjamin and Jindrak were both down and both needed to make the tag. Jindrak got over and tagged in Palumbo while Haas held his hand out for Benjamin. However, when Benjamin got close enough to make the tag, Haas pulled his hand away! Everyone was confused, but none more than Benjamin, who crawled to his feet as Haas jumped to the floor. Benjamin questioned Haas about what he did. As the fans started to boo Haas, Palumbo blindsided Benjamin, crushing him into the corner. Benjamin stumbled out and had his head almost taken off with the Jungle Kick from Palumbo. Palumbo brought Benjamin to his feet and tagged in Jindrak. While all this was happening, Haas just looked on as he was heading to the locker room. Palumbo lifted Benjamin up while Jindrak hit a beautiful high dropkick. Palumbo used the momentum from the dropkick to bright Benjamin down with a spinebuster slam. This move is what the Stallions call the Trojan Horse (Why? I haven't the slightest idea yet) and in what has to be considered a huge upset, made heir debut a successful one by defeating the former two-time tag team champions!

The Italian Stallions (Chuck Palumbo and Mark Jindrak) defeated The World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) when Jindrak pinned S. Benjamin after the Trojan Horse in 0:04:59.
Rating: **

Shelton Benjamin was completely hung out to dry by Charlie Haas. This looks like it may be the official end of the World's Greatest Tag Team, which is a shame. This hasn't been a good week for Shelton Benjamin to say the least. The crowd gave him a nice round of applause as he got back to his feet and headed to the back, but it won't fix all of his current problems.

Match #4
Booker T vs. Eric Angle
Eric Angle has been complaining about not getting what he considers to be quality competition, but he had all the competition he could want and more tonight in the form of Booker T. Booker wrestled a great match last night for the World Heavyweight Title, and if it wasn't for the misguided appearance of Booker's number-one fan Goldust, who knows what may have happened. Either way, Booker had a lot of aggression to work out and I don't believe Angle was ready for it. Angle came into this match thinking he couldn't be beat, and Booker has too much experience and in-ring skills to be taken lightly. Booker dominated much of this match, coming right at Angle. Angle got his offense in, but Booker seemed to have the upperhand for the duration of this contest. However, Booker T didn't expect the match to end the way it did.

As Booker brought Angle down with a spinebuster, he was distracted by a large golden box, complete with a gold bow, being wheeled down to the ring. Booker T yelled at the ring attendants, telling them to take the box back, and this distraction cost him. Angle crept up behind Booker and dropped him with a low blow. Eric Angle nailed the Angle Slam and picked up what has to be considered the biggest win of his career.

Eric Angle pinned Booker T with the Angle Slam in 0:09:32.
Rating: **** 1/4

As Angle left the ring, a wounded Booker T was livid. He jumped outside and tore open the box. Inside the box was Goldust himself! Goldust yelled "Surprise!" but Booker was not in a party mood. Goldust's big smile turned to a frown as an extremely upset Booker just threw his hands up and stomped to the back. Another one of Goldust's attempts to win Booker over has failed.

[The screen is black. The following words appear in white letters and fade into the next set of words.]

Many people laugh at the thought of a "Chaos Theory..."

Many people laugh because they don't understand...

Those laughs will soon be no more...

Whether you like it or not, chaos will soon be here...

The attempts at control will be proved futile...

Be ready...

Match #5
Lance Storm (w/ Dawn Marie) vs. "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels (w/ Daffney & Sean O'Haire)
Lance Storm came within an eyelash of winning the North American Title last night, and he was hoping to keep some momentum going tonight on Explosion, but he would have to do so against another man who's on the up and up, "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels. Storm had Dawn Marie in his corner for this one, so it looks as if Dawn has chosen Storm as the man she will manage in Global Championship Wrestling. Dawn Marie is a great manager, but she is only one person, so she had her hands full trying to keep Storm informed on the whereabouts of Daniels' posse, Daffney and Sean O'Haire, who were at ringside as well.

The match itself was a beautiful thing to watch. Both Storm and Daniels are veterans of the ring, and it really shows when they wrestle. A very fluid, very fun match to watch. For years Daniels has tried to get himself in a position where he can show the world what he can do. In that time, he has come up with some very innovative offense and honed his skills very nicely. Storm has been solid in the ring for years, and he seems to get better with every passing week. With as evenly matched as these two seemed, there got to be a feeling that an outside factor would be what determined the outcome of this match, and that feeling was dead on.

Later in the contest, Storm surprised Daniels with a superkick, but before referee Petey Pluck could count the three, Daffney put Daniels' foot on the bottom rope to break up the count. Dawn Marie had seen enough, as she ran over to the other side of the ring and got in Daffney's face. One push later from Daffney, and the catfight was on! While the fans in Tupelo sure loved this, the first official GCW catfight, Petey Pluck did not as he tried his best to break it up. In actuality, the only thing that would get broken is Lance Storm's chances to win, as RANDY ORTON ran out from the crowd and planted Storm with the R.K.O. out of nowhere! Orton is obviously pissed that Dawn Marie chose Lance Storm over him, and he was letting everyone know. Orton left the ring and ducked on the opposite side so that the referee couldn't see him. All Pluck could see Daniels covering Storm, so Pluck counted the three.

Christopher Daniels pinned Lance Storm after interference from Randy Orton in 0:13:18.
Rating: **** 1/4

Randy Orton screwed Lance Storm out of a victory, and the crowd let him know what they thought about it. Orton wasn't done yet, however.

* * * * *

[After Christopher Daniels, Sean O'Haire, and Daffney leave the ringside area, Dawn Marie crawls back into the ring to check on Lance Storm, not knowing that Randy Orton was still around. Orton grabs a microphone and sneaks into the ring behind Marie.]

RO: You think you're pretty cute, don't you, Dawn?

[Dawn Marie screams as she is startled by Orton.]

RO: So you picked this piece of trash over me? This is your "superstar"? This is who you chose instead of the 24-year old chiseled stud Randy Orton? I'll show you just how big of a mistake you made!

[Orton drops the mic and starts stomping on Storm. Marie pleads with Orton to stop, but her voice is not heard by the North American champion. Orton gets on Storm and punches him repeatedly in the head. Orton brings Storm to his feet and lifts him up onto his shoulder, holding him for a few seconds before dropping him with a devastating neckbreaker. Orton jumps out of the ring and shoves ring announcer William Buck off his chair, folds up the chair, and brings it in the ring. Orton crouches in a pounce position waiting for Storm to stagger to his feet. When Storm does reach his feet, Orton wallops him in the head with a chair, echoing through the arena with a sickening thud. When Storm hits the canvas, it only takes a moment before the blood starts pouring from his head. Orton has a twisted smile on his face as the blood spews forth from Storm's skull. Orton drops the chair and picks up the microphone, cornering a frightened Dawn Marie.]

RO: How do you like your hero now? What you need to remember, Dawn, is that what I want... I get!

[Orton smiles his sick smile at Dawn Marie for a moment more before he drops the microphone and his music starts up. Medical personnel rush to the ring to check on Lance Storm as Orton throws his arms up in the air in the patented Randy Orton pose. Cut to commercial.]

Match #6
"The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels vs. "Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero
Shawn Michaels and Eddie Guerrero realized after last night that they are better off fighting together rather than apart, but if they were going to do that, they had to work out their differences. This match went a lot like last night's did. Both the Heartbreak Kid and Latino Heat know each other so well, so they both had trouble early on gaining a clear advantage. This became quite the technical matchup with both men using a bit of oneupsmanship, both working on the other's left arm. We knew with these two though that is was only a matter of time before the action picked up, and pick up it did.

The pace changed when Michaels ducked a charging Guerrero and sent him flying over the top with a backdrop. Guerrero tried to regain his bearings, but he was caught with a plancha from HBK. From there, Michaels and Guerrero used much more of their high impact offense, Michaels hitting a huge flying forearm and flying elbowdrop, while Guerrero got in his usual suspects as well: a brain buster, and the Three Amigos. However, the one move Guerrero couldn't connect with was the one that cost him. After the Three Amigos, Latino Heat went for the Frog Splash, but because of the punishment he had taken throughout the match, he was slow getting to the top. Michaels kipped up and was able to crotch Guerrero on the top rope. The Heartbreak Kid followed up by hitting a beautiful superplex which got him a nearfall. Shawn Michaels would only need one more move though as he caught a groggy Guerrero with the Sweet Chin Music. HBK picks up a good, hard fought, and most importantly, CLEAN victory over Eddie Guerrero.

Shawn Michaels pinned Eddie Guerrero with the Sweet Chin Music in 0:11:12.
Rating: ****

The score appears to be settled now as Shawn Michaels has defeated Eddie Guerrero. After the match, Guerrero was obviously a little disappointed, but it was nice that he accepted a handshake from HBK when it was offered, which got both men a standing ovation. A great moment for sure, but a moment that was cut short when this strange man dressed as BLACK TIGER was in the ring, nailing Eddie Guerrero in the back with a forearm, knocking Latino Heat into Shawn Michaels and thus sending Michaels crashing through the ropes to the floor. Black Tiger grabbed Guerrero and put him in a standing headscissors before dropping him hard with a jumping piledriver. As Guerrero was laid out, Black Tiger disappeared through the crowd, leaving just as quickly as he had arrived. Shawn Michaels was back in the ring checking on the condition of his friend. Black Tiger strikes again, but who exactly is this guy?

* * * * *

[As we come back from a commercial, Shaniqua is standing in the ring with the new two-time World Tag Team champions, the Basham Brothers. Shaniqua has a microphone in one hand and her riding crop in the other.]

S: This is exactly the way things are supposed to be! I can hear it now, everybody feels so bad for poor Shelton Benjamin. Well he got exactly what he deserved! I know Shelton Benjamin. He's gullible, he's a fool. He's got too "good of a heart" to watch a "poor, defenseless woman" be abused by two men like the Basham Brothers. He fell right into the trap hook, line, and sinker. And what's the end result? The Bashams are once again the World Tag Team champions!

[The crowd boos Shaniqua.]

S: Hey Shelton, you had your chance with me. You're cute and all, but the money and prestige of managing the tag team champions is a whole lot sexier... bitch. [Crowd boos.] Now then! Now that the Bashams are the World Tag Team champions yet again, we are confident that no one can take these titles from us. There's too much talent here. There's too much smarts here [Points to her head] We are the complete package, and there is no tag team, in Global Championship Wrestling or otherwise, that can beat us! And to prove it, I'm going to give any two men that can hear me the chance of a lifetime. Any two men back there right now who think they can take these titles from the Bashams, c'mon out and give it a shot!

[After a moment, no one has answered the challenge. Shaniqua smiles.]

S: That's exactly what I thought! Nothing but a bunch of coward bitches back there. Let's go, boys.

[Shaniqua cocks her riding crop back to whip Doug Basham but she is stopped as "Live For The Moment" by Monster Magnet plays, causing the crowd to explode. Out from the back steps MATT HARDY and the crowd cheers get even louder. We haven't seen Hardy since April when he suffered a muscle tear in his left triceps, but Hardy is back and Shaniqua is not happy about it. Matt Hardy is handed a microphone.]

MH: So nobody can beat the Basham Brothers, huh, Shaniqua? Well I have a partner in the back who might disagree with that statement.

S: You need to back up off me, Hardy. I think you're letting your mouth write checks your ass can't cash. You just came back from a serious injury. There's going to be ring rust, and you want to go up against the World Tag Team champions? Not only that, but you're not exactly a popular guy around here. You don't have a friend in the world.

MH: You know what? You're right, Shaniqua. I don't have a friend in the world. I don't have a single friend back there. But... I do have a brother.

S: What?

MH: I said I do have a brother.

[With that, the old Hardy Boyz music hits and out to a thunderous ovation comes JEFF HARDY! Jeff Hardy is in GCW, and are the Bashams ever throwing a fit. Not wanting to wait until Jeff gets to the ring, the Bashams jump Matt Hardy. Jeff sprints to the ring and evens the odds. Referee JD Sanders slides in the ring and calls for the bell, and we have ourselves a World Tag Team Title match!]

Match #7
World Tag Team Title Match
The Basham Brothers (c) (w/ Shaniqua) vs. The Hardy Boyz
The Basham Brothers were happy to be the World Tag Team champions for a second time, but they certainly weren't prepared to be defending those titles against the returning Matt Hardy and the man making his GCW debut, Jeff Hardy! For years, the Hardy Boyz were amongst the elite teams in the world when they had a falling out. While Matt Hardy was on the shelf with his injury, Jeff and he must have solved their differences, because the Hardy Boyz are back and they're here in Global Championship Wrestling!

Matt and Jeff haven't teamed together in quite some time, but you wouldn't be able to tell it by the way they wrestled tonight. They haven't missed a beat. The fact that Doug and Danny Basham weren't expecting to be facing the Hardy Boyz also worked in their favor. But regardless, the Hardyz dominated this match from bell to bell; the Bashams just couldn't get things together, regardless of what Shaniqua tried. It looked like we were on our way to having brand new champions when Mat Hardy hit Danny Basham with the Twist of Fate. Jeff Hardy was on the top rope for the Swanton Bomb. Doug Basham wasn't going to let that happen though as he grabbed a hold of Danny's foot and pulled him out of the ring. Rather than stay and lose the titles, the Basham Brothers chose to walk out. The Hardy Boyz get the win over the World Tag Team champions in their debut, but it was by countout, so they don't take the titles.

The Hardy Boyz (Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy) defeated The Basham Brothers (Doug Basham and Danny Basham) when M. Hardy defeated Danny Basham by countout in 0:06:08.
Rating: **
(The Basham Brothers retained the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

A very impressive debut by the Hardy Boyz, and it looks as if Shaniqua's mouth might have bitten off more than the Bashams can chew. The Bashams are still the champions, but I'm convinced that in a second match between these two teams, that result could change. Either way, the Hardy Boyz are back.

Match #8
MAIN EVENT
"The Crippler" Chris Benoit vs. "Y2J" Chris Jericho
We had a main event that promised to be a great match as the former World Heavyweight champion Chris Benoit took on "Y2J" Chris Jericho, who I guess has recovered from his "serious" knee injury. You could tell right off the bat that Benoit was fired up. Benoit feels that he was cheated out of the World Heavyweight Title last night, and he was going to take it out on one of Kurt Angle's running buddies, Chris Jericho. Benoit came right at Jericho, brutalizing his chest with chops like only the Crippler can dish out. Jericho, despite his affinity for using underhanded tactics, is one of the top wrestlers in the world, and he and Benoit have been both opponents and partners in the ring before, so he knows the former World champion very well.

The fans were very into this match, wanting to see Benoit tear Jericho apart. The self-proclaimed King of the World wasn't making it easy on Benoit though, doing his best to wear the Rabid Wolverine down. Jericho looked to have things under control when he caught Benoit with a running bulldog. Jericho then hit the Lionsault and got a nearfall out of it. Jericho was able to lock Benoit in the Walls of Jericho. As Jericho pulled back on it, Benoit fought, refusing to give up. Benoit's tenacity paid off as he was able to crawl the ropes to break the hold. Jericho thought he had won when referee Jimmy Appleseed made him break the hold, and he was very upset when he found out he hadn't. Jericho was frustrated and started stomping Benoit before bringing him to his feet. Jericho went for an enziguiri, but Benoit had the presence of mind to duck under it. Jericho remained on his feet and went for a clothesline, but Benoit ducked, countered with a go-behind, and nailed Jericho with a German suplex. Two more German suplexes followed before Benoit went to the top and crushed Jericho with the swandive headbutt. Benoit would go on to lock Jericho in the Crippler Crossface. Jericho knew he was stuck and immediately tapped out.

Chris Benoit made Chris Jericho submit to the Crippler Crossface in 0:09:37.
Rating: ****

A huge win for Chris Benoit as he defeats Chris Jericho. As Benoit celebrated his win, the World Heavyweight champion Kurt Angle sprinted to the ring, trying to regain a sense of pride back after Benoit made him tap out earlier. Problem for Angle was that Benoit saw him coming, ducked Angle's clothesline, and dropped him with a German suplex. It didn't take long before North American champion Randy Orton and Steve Bradley were in the ring, and it became a 4-on-1 assault on Chris Benoit from the Sensationals. As the four Sensationals took turns taking shots at the Crippler, SHAWN MICHAELS and EDDIE GUERRERO were in the ring fighting off the Sensationals. Still, the 4-on-3 odds became too much, which is when LANCE STORM hit the ring! With the odds now even, Benoit, Michaels, Guerrero, and Storm fought off the Sensationals, knocking them all out of the ring. The show came to a close with the faces standing tall in the ring.

We have now learned that next week on Explosion, in the main event, it will be an 8-man tag team match, it will be Kurt Angle, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, and Steve Bradley taking on Chris Benoit, Shawn Michaels, Eddie Guerrero, and Lance Storm! Also we will have the in-ring debut of "The Anarchist" Doug Williams. Be sure to join us next week!
Critic of the DawnPosted on 09/30/04 at 20:20:39

Yes!  The Italian Stallions debut with a huge victory over The World's Most Disfunctional Tag Team!  I've been looking forward to the debut of these guys for a long time, and I expect great things from them...  After all, I did help to think up their gimmick. ;D  I'm looking forward to them getting some interview time.

Speaking of looking forward to things, I'm a huge Doug Williams mark (to the point that I held up a Flag of St. George with my British brother-in-law at the 9/11 ROH show - He pointed to it and gave us a thumbs up.), and it really surprises me that he hasn't been snapped up by WWE already.  Seriously, this guy has money written all over him.  He's a decent talker, has a good look and size, and is an amazing technician.  I'd pay good money to see him in a match against Benoit...

BOOK IT!

Incidentally, it's dissappointing to see High Voltage getting so many more views than Explosion, considering HV is very much your version of Heat.  Like I've said before, I think the fact that your big cards are so long presents something of a boundary to people that makes it hard for new readers to get into your circuit.  Once you know what's going on, though, it's really a refreshing change of pace from some of the less descriptive circuits out there.  Since I follow GCW now, though, I'd be dissappointed if it changed stylistically.

Oh yeah, and you've done the impossible by making Shaniqua an interesting character.

I don't know if it counts towards the "views" note, but I sometimes respond to Voltage, rather than Explosion, simply because Snabby posts the two at once, causing me to read the two in one go before replying (and since I'm on the Voltage page second, I just reply there).

And hey, I've said it already - the eight man might be the main event, but what I'm reading for is the debut of Doug Williams. Maybe he's the mysterious Black Tiger...

Thank you much.  Yes, the Stallions shall rule and rule hard, as shall Doug Williams (I hope).

Yes, it is a little disappointing more people don't read Explosion.  The thing is, I don't think my cards are too long.  They're just very long relative to the majority of what's on these forums.  And you won't have to worry about a style change, as it won't happen.  I like being able to tell a fleshed out story.  I want people to care about my characters, not just look at results and go, "Oh, Angle won."  Citing the example you used, without using a more detailed style, who would care about Shaniqua courting and subsequently tricking Shelton Benjamin?  No one.  A more detailed style lets you do more things, like make a blackhole of charisma a money character.  Seriously, not a whole whole lot of people comment on my circuit to me, but Shaniqua gets more mention over anyone. *pat on back*

Uh oh... I hope I haven't overhyped Doug Williams to where I can't possibly make people happy with it.  I hope he's not GCW's Glacier. *shudders*

And although I don't get a lot of hits and comments because of my car size, I am very happy with the comments I do get.  CotD and 91, you both give intelligent comments and such, so I'd rather get a couple of comments like yours than 50, "Hey, nice job!" or "That sucked!" with no merit.

Hey, me and Critic reading should be more than enough for anyone. ;)
