DWF 11/06/07
91 | Posted on 09/16/04 at 22:04:03 Hmmm, past cards eh? I wonder who has the longest running circuit, TNM time of those who do at least four monthly cards, on a side note. Anyway... Card Information: Held in: CHARLESTON CIVIC CENTER Location: WEST VIRGINIA, UNITED STATES Date/Time: 11/06/07 at 8:00pm Matches/Interviews booked: 8 Arena Capacity: 10000 Attendance: 10000 A Sold Out Arena. Ticket Buy Rate: 100% TV ratings: 2.7% Approximently Viewers: 8100000 Hayabusa pinned Juventud Guerrera after a backspin DDT in 0:13:22. Rating: **** 1/4 Hayabusa was victorious today, ousting Juventud Guerrera in tonights opening match. Yeah, that's just a bit of filler to put Busa over. The Young Lions defeated Los Guerreros (Chavo Classic and Eddie Guerrero) when York pinned E. Guerrero with the Moonsault in 0:07:49. Rating: *** The situation with the tag team titles was announced at the outset of the show by commissioner Matt Hardy. With their victory last week, plans were quickly set in motion for Furnas & LaFon to defend their tag titles in a rematch against the Rock'n'Roll Express, but it was agreed this morning by the champs that they would vacate the titles following an injury to Doug Furnas that was deemed to severe to compete with for at least the next couple of months. The now former champs made two requests they wanted met if they were to give up the belts - one being that they get a rematch against whomever should be crowned the new champions once Furnas recovers and also that Phil LaFon gets a singles match at International Incident (which will be against Ricky Morton). What to do with the belts now though? Matt Hardy made the decision - the Saturday after International Incident will see the DWF have a one hour TV special in which Kurt Angle will get his promised title shot against whomever wins the title at International Incident and any teams who throw their names into the hat between now and then will be entered in a tag team Royal Rumble to decide the new champions. Before Hardy could complete what he had to say, Jody Fleisch stuck his nose in again to find something to criticise. Actually Fleisch congratulated Hardy on what he called his first good idea in months, then had the gaul to ask who he stole it from. But on he continued, contending that he deserved to be in that Rumble AND as the last entrant, at least if Hardy wanted him to back off. Hardy was clearly irritated with the young Fleischs petulance, but now out came The Young Lions whose investigations had landed new evidence they felt sure would point to Fleisch - they had found the offending cinder block that had been dumped on Hardy and had sent it to the lab to be scanned for fingerprints. Fleisch noted that they were idiots and that fingerprints didn't show up on concrete. The Young Lions were silent for a minute, then just flat out accused Fleisch, without proof. In other words, the investigation continues. The Young Lions took on Eddie and Chavo (classic) Guerrero soon after and won (it seems their investigations revealed that Los Guerreros had lied, cheated and stole when previously questioned about their whereabouts by the Lions - they claimed they had been playing poker in their locker room when Matt Hardy was attacked whilst security tapes proved they were down the local whore house), but we can expect both teams to enter the tag team Royal Rumble AND be good bets to take it all. Chris Jericho made Alex Wright submit to the Lion Tamer in 0:14:58. Rating: *** 1/2 Chris Jerichos new found popularity hasn't gone over his head, putting in a mature but highly devastating performance against Alex Wright. Kurt Angle is of the opinion that a filthy, job stealing immigrant like Jericho has no business in an American company, leading to Jericho issuing a challenge to the self-deluded xenophobic ignoramus, as he put it. Angle later responded by saying he's insulted that a Canadian would ever dare lay out a challenge - such a gentlemanly honour should be done by someone with a little dignity, and he laid out a similar challenge. Essentially we have ourselves a match at International Incident, which conveniently takes place on neutral ground, though I'm sure Angle won't exactly be thrilled at that. Steve Corino pinned Bobby Eaton with the Old School Explusion in 0:08:41. Rating: ** 1/2 (Steve Corino retained the Television Title.) Steve Corino and Billy Kidman were interviewed earlier. We'll get to Kidmans portion later, but when Corino spoke, he was pointing to a rather large purple looking lump on his head and holding Lance Storm accountable, citing that the chairshot Lance dealt him last week left him with a minor concussion and the wound we clearly saw here. Corino said NOBODY was going to get a one up on him like that, and before they worry about getting THEIR belts back, and instead of suing Lance like he feels he probably should, he was going to beat some respect into him in the ring and return the favour, and he was willing to put his television title on the line to underline the point. The Syndicate defeated The Miracle Violence Connection when L. Storm defeated T. Gordy when T. Gordy passed out in the Maple Leaf in 0:05:55. Rating: *** (The Syndicate retained the Intercontinental Tag Team Titles.) The possibility (and, really, the entire likelihood) of a Corino/Storm match was furthered during The Syndicates first title defense as new IC tag team champs against the Miracle Violence Connection. The MVC put up an incredibly good fight, with Terry Gordy showing all the credentials of a former TV champ. The Syndicate just about held on, but afterwards it was the reigning TV champ, Steve Corino, who came out and blasted Ken Shamrock around the head with a chair, then indicated to Lance Storm, who was still in the ring and several feet away, that this is what he might have to expect if he takes him up on his challenge. Larry Zbyszko defeated Essa Rios by countout in 0:09:11. Rating: * 3/4 Larry Zbyszko also won, taking out DWF veteran Essa Rios, albeit with a timely trip from the outside by Jonathon Coachman. Coach alluded later on that Coach would be in the United Kingdom in two weeks. What for, who knows. Kid Kash, Low Ki and Rey Mysterio defeated The Mean Street Posse and Paul Roma when Kid Kash pinned Gas with the Money Maker in 0:03:53. Rating: ** 1/4 Los Guerreros have themselves a challenge for the PPV as Rey Mysterio, Low Ki and Kid Kash issued a six man challenge, all three looking to get back for Los Guerreros actions in recent weeks, with Rey getting beat down last week and Low Ki and Kid Kash having a ruck with the Guerreros the week before. The three of them took on the idiot trio of Paul Roma and the Mean Street Posse (now with cloaks that are extra black) and won. Easily. Los Guerreros will be a much harder task, but we'll see if they're up to it. John Cena pinned Dynamite Kid with the Eighth Deadly Sin in 0:13:12. Rating: *** 1/2 Dynamite Kid is two weeks from the dream match - in his home country, taking on Billy Kidman, a guy he's beaten before, for the worlds heavyweight title. Yet if karma is anything to go by, this may not be his time as he suffered defeat today at the hands of John Cena, with a little help from Billy Kidman, quick to return the "mind games" of last week. During the Kidman/Corino interview alluded to earlier, Kidman stated that Dynamites home coming dream would indeed turn into a nightmare and all the laws in Britain weren't going to do a damn thing for him. Kidman though had ideas of payback too after Dynamite was partly responsible for Kidman and Corino dropping the Intercontinental tag team titles. Tonights main was supposed to be a showcase for the next challenger to the world title, a sell for the PPV by putting over Dynamites formidableness against tough opposition in John Cena, but it turned into Kidman getting that payback by costing him the match. Dynamite maintained control for large portions of the match. Kidman came down, distracting Dynamite momentarily. Cena quickly came back and set Dynamite up for the Eighth Deadly Sin. Dynamite slipped out and grabbed a headlock. Cena shoved Dynamite off, right into Kidman who had gotten onto the apron. The two collided, sending Kidman down hard to the concrete, but also stunned Dynamite, and a second attempt at the Eighth Deadly Sin scored and Cena got the upset. Dynamite will be looking to wipe out that loss in quick order by taking the world title in a fortnight. Big win for Cena meanwhile, it might be worth noting that he was stopped on his way to the curtain backstage for the match by The Pitbulls, warning him that they found out he had gotten Furnas & LaFon a tag title shot over them and their form of payback was a bitch. Nothing was acted upon tonight, but Cena might want to keep his eyes open for a little while. Card rating: ** 3/4 Match observations: Whilst on the subject of the tag titles, there's a little bad blood between Pretty Perfect and Edge & Christian following their little spat last week. Edge & Christian hold Pretty Perfect responsible for the title switch and Pretty Perfect blame Edge & Christian not only for the title switch but also the Doug Furnas injury. Bickering aside, these two teams have never met before and it leaves somewhat of a "dream" tag team match worth keeping an eye on. Don Muraco had some words to say today, as he's been having problems with more than just Jerry Lynn lately. Muraco said that Lynn has started hiding behind Raven, and if he's to wipe Lynn off the face of the earth, he now realises he'll have to start with Raven and he'd start right now. Raven came out and claimed that he had far better things to be worrying about than Muraco - such as looking to regain the world title, and besides, Muraco had more pressing matters at hand. What these pressing matters were became quickly obvious when Jerry Lynn popped up behind Muraco, where he'd come from a mystery, but not important as he levelled Muraco around the head with a steel chair, followed by Muracos manager Jeff Hardy for good measure (plus because he deserves it). Either way, Muraco continues to have his issues with this pair, and it's getting scarier to think that by the week, Raven seems more and more in tone with Jerry Lynns wavelength. With Triple Threat having self destructed, all three men are ready to play a little one upmanship. Chris Benoit came out, berated the crowd a little, then slagged off Dean Malenko. Benoit claimed that he was the leader of Triple Threat and the greatest role model the group has ever had. Cue Dean Malenko, berates the crowd a little, slags off Benoit, claims to be the leader and great role model, repeat ad nauseum. Their bickering leads us to one conclusion - everyone was forgetting about Masato Tanaka, at least these two were, so much so that Tanaka was able to run down to the ring, climb to the top and nail them both with a high cross body, before walking off. If Benoit and Malenko want to get one over the other, they're going to have to deal with Tanaka as well. Brad Armstrong appeared on the Kings Court today, irritating the hell out of all who saw it (bar King Kanyon). With the entire Rock shtick ripped off to a tee, he said that "monkeys ass jabroni" Devon Storm has had his ass handed to him by the "great one" many times before (in reality, it's once... maybe) and if he wanted to challenge, The Rock would be happy to accept his challenge, then take his challenge and shove it up his candy ass and beat him, if ya smell etc etc etc. |
Snabbit888 | Posted on 09/16/04 at 22:26:41 Another good card. Brad Armstrong rules, mucho. The tag Royal Rumble sounds like it will either be very interesting or a clusterfuck. Only time will tell, methinks. Also, the Young Lions as detectives bit is brilliant. It's comic gold, babay! And go Kurt Angle, woot! |
Snabbit888 | Posted on 09/16/04 at 22:28:31 Oh, and as far as long-running circuits, TNM time wise, this is probably the longest one I've seen using the weekly TV show building to a PPV format. One day I hope to surpass you though. BOOYA. |
