[GCW] High Voltage (Chaos Reigns Hype) - 7/18/04

Snabbit888Posted on 09/15/04 at 09:40:36

We had a sold-out arena here in Atlanta, Georgia as it was the night for the next in what promises to be a long line of pay-per-view extravaganzas for Global Championship Wrestling! It was time for Chaos Reigns. We had eight big matches which would all be previewed tonight on this pre-pay-per-view edition of High Voltage, as well as one match with Paul London taking on "Primetime" Elix Skipper in cruiserweight action. Let's get straight to the preview of Chaos Reigns.

Billy Kidman vs. Eric Angle
Eric Angle is on a mission for respect. Angle has looked quite impressive since making his debut back in May, compiling an undefeated streak. Angle is getting disturbed though that despite his own merits, he is still, as he sees it, being looked at as nothing more than Kurt Angle's brother. Eric Angle challenged anyone to meet him on pay-per-view, feeling cheated that he has yet to make a pay-per-view appearance despite his undefeated status. Billy Kidman answered the challenge. Kidman hasn't seen a lot of success in GCW rings thus far, but ending Eric Angle's undefeated streak would be a good start.

Hardcore Invitational
Participants: Hardcore Holly, Tommy Dreamer, Monty Brown, Sean O'Haire, Rob Van Dam, Goldust, Low-Ki, Perry Saturn
Hardcore Holly is trying to go back to his hardcore roots, claiming that his lack of success thus far is due to him losing his hardcore nature. Holly issued an open challenge to the first seven men who would step up and sign the contract for a Hardcore Invitational. The rules of this are simple. Eight men going at it in the ring (or surrounding areas) all a the same time. No disqualifications, and wrestlers can only be eliminated by pinfall or submission. The last man standing wins the Hardcore Invitational. This may not be an old school classic, but it sure promises to be violent.

Television Title Match
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles (c) vs. Steve "Who's Your Daddy?" Bradley
Back on May 24, AJ Styles received an unrequested assist from Steve Bradley to help him retain the Television Title against Lance Storm. At the time, Styles didn't think it was that big of a deal, but he soon learned that the Sensationals never forget as he was bullied into helping Randy Orton defeat Goldust later in that night. Styles thought he had paid his debt so to speak, but Styles was intimidated by Bradley (and "Mofo", Bradley's baseball bat) into putting the Television Title on the line against the Baddest Mofo On The Show tonight. This may be Styles' toughest challenge to date.

Cruiserweight Title Match
Rey Mysterio Jr. (c) vs. The Hurricane vs. Teddy Hart vs. "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels
This one all started at Mayhem back in May. The Hurricane was set to be a part of the Cruiserweight Chaos match that was to name the number-one contender to the Cruiserweight Title at Super Cade, but he was attacked from behind and unable to participate. Cruiserweight Chaos would be won by Teddy Hart. Gregory Helms, The Hurricane's alter-ego, went on a mission to discover the culprit, which was later revealed to be the man who was supposedly The Hurricane's friend, Teddy Hart. Hart went as far as to attack The Hurricane before a scheduled match for the title against Rey Mysterio Jr. on June 14, which ultimately led to him being easy pickings to the West Coast Pop. Mysterio knew what had happened, and promised The Hurricane a rematch the night after Super Cade, provided he retained the title at Super Cade. The next week, Mysterio defended the title against Christopher Daniels and won the match by disqualification when Teddy Hart interfered. Daniels didn't take too kindly to this, and left both Mysterio AND Hart lying. Mysterio would then successfully defend his title at Super Cade against Teddy Hart. The next night on Explosion, Teddy Hart met Christopher Daniels in a singles match, which was won by the Fallen Angel when he revealed his alliance with Sean O'Haire. Later in that same night, in a hard-fought match, Mysterio used the West Coast Pop to retain the title against The Hurricane. After the match, the two shook hands, but that was broken up by a Teddy Hart attack. Moments later, Sean O'Haire was sent down by Daniels to destroy all three cruiserweights, which he promptly did. As a result of all of that, this match was signed. There is another variable in this match, however, as Daniels' partnership with Low-Ki and Elix Skipper, collectively known as Triple X, is falling apart, even to the point of costing Daniels a match against The Hurricane on July 5th. Will they be a factor in this one? Only time will tell.

World Tag Team Title Match
The World's Greatest Tag Team (c) vs. The Basham Brothers
Wow... where to begin with this one? These two teams have been going at it from the get-go, and a lot of the tension has built around Shaniqua's attraction to Shelton Benjamin. Shaniqua was in a weird spot, managing the Basham Brothers but lusting over Benjamin of the World's Greatest Tag Team. For a couple of months, it wasn't a problem as she even led the Bashams to the tag titles, winning them from the WGTT. However, when the WGTT won the titles back last month at Super Cade when Shaniqua's plans backfired, Doug and Danny were not at all happy. Blaming Shaniqua for concentrating more on Shelton Benjamin than leading them as a tag team, Doug and Danny staged a mutiny, attacking Shaniqua backstage. Luckily for her, she was saved by an unlucky source, Shelton Benjamin. Since then, things have been very awkward between Shaniqua and Shelton, as it looks like Benjamin is starting to fall for Shaniqua a bit as well. This is not sitting well with Charlie Haas. Haas is trying to keep Benjamin focused, and thus far it has worked, but how long can that last? Are Benjamin and Shaniqua falling for each other, and if so, what will Haas do? Well, one thing he wants to do first is retain the tag titles at Chaos Reigns.

North American Title Match
Randy Orton (c) vs. Lance Storm
Dawn Marie made her debut a couple weeks ago and stated that she is on a mission to find the perfect man to lead to the top of Global Championship Wrestling. She was interrupted by North American champion Randy Orton, who made a pass at her. When Marie declined the Sensational's advances, Orton became enraged, grabbing Marie by the hair and threatening to hurt her. Luckily for Dawn, Lance Storm ran down and made the save. Marie and Storm have history together, having a partnership in the old days of ECW. Last week on Explosion, Orton once again harassed Marie. Storm interjected and challenged Orton to this match for the North American Title. The Calgary, Alberta native holds victories over the other three Sensationals, but can be make it a complete sweep by beating Randy Orton?

"The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels vs. "Y2J" Chris Jericho vs. "Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero
The history between Eddie Guerrero and Chris Jericho has been well documented. They don't like each other, plain and simple. However, Guerrero and Shawn Michaels have been good friends, fighting along side one another against the Sensationals since the Sensationals have been around. That all started to go sour at Super Cade though. Shawn Michaels had just defeated Randy Orton for the North American Title before he was jumped by Chris Jericho and Steve Bradley. Eddie Guerrero ran down to save, and in the confusion, was inadvertently blasted by the Sweet Chin Music from HBK. Latino Heat was not happy, shoving HBK to the mat when he regained his bearings. The next night on Explosion, Michaels defended his newly won title in a rematch from Super Cade against Orton, but this time in a ladder match with the assurance from Guerrero that he would watch his back. That turned out to be false as when Steve Bradley ran in and attacked Michaels, Guerrero walked to the back, which allowed Orton to regain the North American Title. The relationship has been tumultuous ever since, including the two coming to blows this past week on Explosion, having to be separated by the GCW Official Brigade. What this should lead to is a tremendous contest between three of the top wrestlers in the world, no doubt.

World Heavyweight Title Match
"The Crippler" Chris Benoit (c) vs. Booker T vs. Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar
After successfully defending the World Heavyweight Title in the main event of Super Cade in a tremendous match, Benoit's life has been very confusing. Benoit originally thought he was going to have three weeks of preparation time for this title defense, but that didn't work out. The Explosion after Super Cade, GCW President Ryan Niemiller set up a round robin tournament between Kurt Angle, Booker T, and Brock Lesnar with the winner facing Benoit for the title tonight. Problem was, Angle beat Booker, Lesnar beat Angle, and Booker beat Lesnar, leading to a three way tie. So the next week, Niemiller set up a Triple Threat Match between Angle, Booker, and Lesnar in hopes to crown a number-one contender, and to make sure it happened right, Niemiller himself was at ringside. First, we all thought that Kurt Angle would be the number-one contender after he nailed Booker T with a pair of brass knuckles to get the 3 count, but Niemiller saw it and demanded that the match be restarted. After that, with the referee distracted, Goldust, who is developing an unhealthy obsession with Booker T, helped the object of his obsession pin Angle by attacking him and dropping him with the Shock Treatment. Once again, Niemiller saw this and restarted the match. At this point, Lesnar had enough, threw Chris Benoit (who was doing commentary) off his chair, and used said chair to lay out both Booker and Angle. The match was ruled a no-contest. This past week on Explosion, Niemiller informed Benoit that the title would be on the line at Chaos Reigns in a Fatal Fourway, seeing how he couldn't fairly name one man the top contender over the other two. If facing three men wasn't a steep enough hill for Benoit to climb, he also lost to AJ Styles in a non-title match on Explosion (albeit thanks to interference from Brock Lesnar). The deck is stacked against Benoit, but Benoit has beaten the odds before. Can he do so again tonight?

Tonight is sure to be a spectacular evening, but before we got to the pay-per-view broadcast, we had a match on High Voltage!

Match #1
MAIN EVENT
Paul London vs. "Primetime" Elix Skipper
We had cruiserweight action on our hands as both Paul London and Elix Skipper were looking to pick up a win to help them move up the ladder of the Cruiserweight division. Skipper was also looking to have a strong showing in order to help keep Triple X alive, as they are breaking apart fast. What resulted was a good fast-paced match, if not a sloppy one. Both men had a game plan, but it almost appeared as if their bodies were moving faster than their minds, resulting in some chaotic (pardon the pun) exchanges.

Skipper dominated a good portion of this match once he got himself under control. He was successfully wearing London down, but the tide changed when he went for a springboard moonsault. London capitalized with a quick Northern Lights suplex and earned himself a well earned victory.

Paul London pinned Elix Skipper after a Northern Lights suplex in 0:14:33.
Rating: ***

This was a big win for Paul London as it establishes him as a contender in the Cruiserweight division. Conversely, it was another step in the wrong direction for Elix Skipper. If he is going to be a player in GCW, he is going to need to get focused, trouble in Triple X or not.

With that, the countdown was on. We are just moments away from Chaos Reigns! You won't want to miss it!

Excellent! Looks to be an awesome card!

I hope it turns out that way... I'm writing her up now.  You have any predictions?
americamamushiPosted on 09/16/04 at 16:44:38

Predictions...

I think Kidman will pull the upset and give Eric Angle all the respect of Rodney Dangerfield (which I'm lead to believe is still 'none')

Since hardcore invitation has hardcore in the main that means any wacky old thing could happen... I'm predicting Ralph Nader to make a surprise appearance and win by getting the final pin using his finisher The Nader Invader... or maybe the winner will be Hardcore Holly... I guess that could work too...

AJ Styles will retain the TV title

Christopher Daniel will be reading everyone their 'last rights' in the cruiserweight match (See what I did there? huh?? :))

The Bashams will win the tag titles because they won't tell the WGTT that the saftey word is banana.

Orton will retain the NA title

Jericho will win the three way

Angle wins the title in the main event
